We moved to rural Bulgaria 10 years ago. Best thing we've ever done, love it. Only regret that we didn't do it when we were your age. I so remember that feeling of excitement and trepidation when we began the journey. But we've never looked back. Every day is an adventure. The Bulgarian people are warm, kind and generous. Enjoy every second, we do. Very best wishes from two old farts, formally from the UK now firmly rooted in the soil of BG I've only done episode 1 so far. Looking forward to following your progress.

I have found you on Instagram. Now as Bulgarian, who was traveling all across Europe and living the corporate life, now in the beginning of my 30s, I appreciate Bulgaria more than ever and I am happy that you also do. I am currently paying my mortgage in capital and looking forward to buy something outside the big city and give my kids the chance to try this village life and choose their own path, either the capital life or the village life.
Good on you! Welcome to my country of birth, I've been living in UK for the last 30 years, a lot has changed here since and all is not to my liking, so time for us to move back too. Needless to say Bulgaria has it's own problems, but also has a lot to offer, nice weather, a beautiful nature, you can grow your own organic produce, people a friendly and welcoming to foreigners, I know that, my wife isn't Bulgarian. So good luck to you guys, I hope you find happiness there.
The UK just didn't feel like a place we could truly call home. We could never settle down and have what we yurned for. Land, space, time. We have all of this now and we just love it so much. Your country is magical, you are making the right choice in returning and we are humbled by people's acceptance of us.

Hey, thanks for following and subscribing. To be honest, it was really more to do with the quantity of land, building value for the price over everything else. We didn't see the UK being something attainable for us with the mortgage fees and cost of living. That's why we chose here. 7k for 2 acres and 3 building surpassed anything else we could find at the time. Plus bulgaria has 4 seasons, cheaper taxes, better cost of living in general. And with this house, we can grow food, have livestock and live off the land.
Thanks for your reply. Yeh, we can understand why you have chosen Bulgaria. We are still in search for our final destination. Everything in most places are extremely expensive. It is also our dream to live off the land. One day that dream will come live for us, too. We wish you everything of the best and a very happy future in Bulgaria.
Hi Marie, honestly when it comes to customs we declared nothing as it wasn't necessary. Each border will do there check and as long as you're not smuggling anything naughty you'll be just fine. As for pets, if you watch further episode you'll see we talk about how the only border that they check our pets was the UK border on the way out! Crazy. However, you do need to get your dogs or cats their rabies jobs atleast 21 days prior to leaving with proof from the vet that they've had them.

@@marielidbury6502 we did not have an itinerary, they honestly do not care one single bit. Our best bit of advice is don't over think it. The border control really don't care what you bring through, and most of them cannot be bothered to look, as long as you know whats in there when they ask, they're happy. They may ask to look, but they didn't look once with us. We bought Vignettes as we travelled, you can buy them at any of the petrol stations when approaching borders. There's always a fuel station near a border selling them.

Hey! We're so happy to have you as a follower! It really does mean a lot. With regards to entry requirements it's so difficult no post brexit. You either need a pension, or if you can prove you have a large redidual income that comes in or you have some sort of European heritage which gives you or you family a passport in an EU country, it's super challenging!
You could also try and get placed here via a job in the UK or you can get a bulgarian job and get a D Visa then you'll have residency and you could technically quit the job. Either way, it's a challenge.

We have been back/forth to BG a lot and our caravan is currently in Veliko Tarnovo! We will be in VT for the summer working and hopefully working on our renovation property too 🤞🏼 we will have to come and say hello!

Currently yes, bit out village has a preschool for our youngest and the closest town has accepted our son for September term 😀
