In this video I tell you what's wrong and the fix for your TCL 55 inch TV that has sound but no picture. The problem is the back lights have gone out probably just one that is causing it to short and kind of like your old Christmas lights effects them all. You'll have to replace the led strips inside the TV. You'll have to open up the TV and take the display out to access behind the display. It's not that hard of a fix but you will need to be super careful and not crack the display while doing this fix. Thank you for your time.

Thank you for a really simple diagnosis. There are several issues that occur with TCLs (Main board, power board, Tcon board) but it seems a bad backlight is the #1 culprit. Mine had sound, the TCL logo would flash for a split second, and then black screen. You could hear the menu responding but couldn't see to navigate. If the flashlight test doesn't work, you probably have a board issue. Now, wish me luck replacing those LEDs!
Thanks for the video. I laid my TCL 50 inch on the bed last night and tried the trick of unplugging and holding the power button for 60 seconds and then plugging it back in, to no avail. But I could see the Netflix and TH-cam boxes. I thought they were burn in at first but it's like yours. I'll order the parts. Thanks again.

How do I find correct replacement backlights? I have a tcl 55S403TCAA I have the exact issue as the one in the video but I’ve seen places say there are different models of lights so it might not work?

It actually is pretty hard just to take apart and put the screen back together..... Well... it's not actually hard per say just a ton of chances to mess up and damage the screen it's large thin and fragile ... If you mess up even a bit...screen will be damaged..
Actually changing the LED isn't hard... tho
Also to save money I'd just change one LED... usually it's only one... You get singles LEDS like 100 for like $10 and they are universal... and the stripes are like 30-50$ EACH and TV specific....
You should give links to both the other video to fix this problem and a link to the LED strips you talked about. This is TH-cam 101
I just looked at the model number on back of my TV and put that in Amazon search with backlight replacements and found a 5star set for 28 bucks

I’m not fixing this myself. I just bought this tv Oct 2022 it’s January 2023 soo basically do I take it into Target where I bought it or a tv store to get it fixed? Otherwise do I have to buy another tv?? I’m pissed, I’ve barely had this tv for three months
What if you can’t see anything? The white light status indicator flashes every time I use remote. When I first turn it on the screen turns on for a split second before going back off. There’s no sound. And there’s no reset button on the tv

Did the reset button. No go, looks like led's or controller board. This thing is so cheap the plastic just brakes and crumbles. Worthless.

My TV does what your describing to a point. I will manually power it up, hear a click then shuts down. I get no script flickering / appearing on screen at all.
I tried all the rebooting methods with no success.

Thanks to your video I was able to use the flashlight to reconnect my TV To my Wi-Fi and log into my Roku account. I have the TCL 55 inch and that’s the problem that I’m having is that the lights are out where do I find the LED lights

I still cant find fix for mine that is playing fine sometimes for 5s sometimes for 1 or 2 minutes glitches out screen goes black but youtube or netflix still plays fine
Wish I could find someone willing to fix mine. I got a good deal on another unit, same brand & size. I’m going to store the older unit in the box and tuck under my bed until I’m fortunate to find a helper. 📺

I don't buy new led lights I just rig the olds ones to make them work bc usually there's like 20 or so leds in the strips and it's only one of them that is bad so I just bridge that connection

Well I have TCL TVs so this is informative, unfortunately the TV in question today is an Element TV. Woke up tried turning it on and nothing comes on after rebooting it and powering it down I came to realize that the audio is playing. But nothing comes on the screen. Only bought three and a half years ago.

Before u do that try using your flush light to guide you and factory reset it it work for me just fine

@@sbaolo true, nothing if it’s the backlight. But, there’s various other roku black screen issues that a reset resolves.

I wish I was able to say this worked for me like everybody else😢. Unfortunately I cannot. First off my TV is a Toshiba. Second my problem is that when I select my TV show and press play then the screen goes to black and I could hear everything I could even see the words on the screen say ad 1 of 1 or skip ad but it will not show me the actual show, but I could hear it. So I tried step 1 & 2. Both ways made the TV reboot but neither way worked😢. This happened to me a week ago and I found that if I switched to an iPhone block instead of a generic block to plug it into it worked this time I tried it and tried putting a different cord on there and none of these ways worked this time.😢😢😢

Wow! I thought the screen entirely wasn’t working. This is my problem… but I only had this tv for 3 months and don’t even watch it often. That doesn’t seem right. It was bought new
My son had this same problem with his TCL (Model 55S431). Assumed that it was led backlight based on all of the YT videos. TV was under warranty so he contacted TCL. Took a while to get through troubleshooting and warranty claim process but TCL sent a repair guy to our house. He changed a board under the small sub panel on the back of the TV. Literally took less than 10 minutes from the time he walked in the door until the TV was fixed. Works fine now.

1. My TCL TV is no longer under warranty, it expired a few months ago, would TCO still be willing to send a repair guy to my house to fix my TV even though it is no longer under warranty if I pay them to come fix it

Sorry for the delay - just saw your message. The repair guy (sent by TCL) did not charge for the (warranty) service. I gave him a tip because he he was quick and did a good job. He drove about 90 miles to get to my house and said he had several repairs planned for the day (various brands). I can't say for certain if TCL would send someone. The guy that came to my house was not a TCL employee - was contracted by TCL for the repair. You might still try contact TCL support to see what they say. Some companies will cover (or partially cover) repairs under "policy" even if warranty is expired. They might also be able to help you trouble-shoot shoot the problem and send you a part. In my case, the board was easily accessed - literally just a few minutes to replace via a small sub-panel on the back of the TV. Otherwise, check to see if you can find a local repair company. I know there is at least one company near me that does in-home repairs of TV's. I think that this is becoming more common as TV's get larger and are harder to transport. Hope that helps.

Both my tcl tvs went black at the same time which is odd.

try again. use different flashlight. It took a couple of tries and different flashlights for me. turn off other light sources and it''s not obvious when it happens. so look carefully and slowly

The fix is that is cheaper to Buy a new One than repair led lights.
One he said that he was going to do a follow up video where he fixed it but two it sounds very complicated because he's going to try replacing the LED lights and three this happened to me on a new model that's only about 3 years old. And I'm not dumpster diving. So there went the TV. I think I can safely say don't leave the TV on all the time and if you do and it doesn't go out on its own like turn off. This is going to happen. I left mine on and fell asleep and woke up and now the lights have died.

Having the same issue just picked it up tried s few tricks to fix it but no luck , tv has sound when I press on the remote but no picture even with a flash light .
Is this something someone with no experience in this type of repair could do?
If I didn't know any better I'd say the majority of people who commented for the link are either unaware that their TV has model number to jot down real quick and Amazon has a search bar where you actually do something for your self and type you TV model number in and the LED back lights and omg you just took the first step on overcoming laziness

Unplug your TV from the outlet in hold the power button on your TV for 30 second plug the cord back in to the outlet in power it on see if that's works if not take the battery out of your remote unplug the TV again hold power button on your remote for 20 to 30 second do the same with the TV before putting it back together after you do all that plug the cord back in put the battery back in remote in fire the TV back up

If anyone has the problem of not seeing the images, press the Netflix button and then you’ll find it easier to look at the profiles. Sometimes it’s harder if it’s just on the Home Screen

Pro tip if your tv picture isn’t working just unplug it and leave the tv for 2-3 minutes plug it back in and then test it. If it’s not working still then you can try and replace the bulb

Oh snap, I can actually see the picture with a flashlight. Ordered LED strips off of Amazon. Gonna pick up suction cups from Harbor Freight and attempt this repair. I found this TV on the curb recently.

Same, I Pick up scrap metal and living in Baltimore City, I come across TVS pretty much everyday... You wouldnt Believe how many Ive plugged in and they ended up working perfectly - I end up using Xfinity/Comcast/Dish Network ect,,,, remotes as universal remote controls and sell them for $30-$50 depending on condition/brand/and hardware.... when you find them on the streets, treat them like you would a bed bug filled mattress from the dump, until you make sure it isnt filled with Roaches, bed bugs, spiders, whatever - you dont want to bring a bunch of squatters into your house.. Ive taken apart TVs That Looked like compressed bricks of roaches "YUCK" Just cause they look clean doesnt always mean that... good luck, and be saFE
