    I tried replacing the sub in my 2015 and ended up going with an aftermarket 800 watt amp and a 10" Alpine type R in a sealed wood box made to fit the factory location. Blows the factory sub out of the water. Upgraded the dash and door speakers with Kicker speakers.... she rocks.

      Anyone try a phone free spl meter like JBL one on Google play? I tested mine and max was 105 decibles, just curious if anyone else tried a spl test. All I replaced were front dash speakers with 2 ohm infinity and rear door with jbl power series 2ohm and a bazooka replacement sub in stock box on stock amp.

    Just installed in a 2014 3500 with the alpine system. Video was a perfect guide. Sounds great hits harder and is cleaner. Is enough to shake the mirrors and almost feels like a decent aftermarket setup. Sub is super nice quality too compared to stock.

    Hey man, i work in a battery shop, Great job keeping that battery on what looks like a battery maintainer (thats how you get the longest life out of them) BUT i would recommend putting some kind of cardboard box or something around the battery incase it decides to take a shit on you (not likely) but hey we do have batteries blow up over night on a 2 amp chargw every now and then, you gotta alot of nice stuff in your garage, would suck for it to blow up and get acid all over your stuff!

    I have two of these 8". 1 installed in the stock tiny sealed pioneer enclosure and the other in a JL Microsub ported enclosure. Have 300watts going to it from a Pioneer 4ch amp(bridged). It sounds a bit better than my door Focal 6x8 components. The JL enclosure makes it sound a good deal better but still this sub sounds no where as good as the JL W3 8" that I have a pair of also in their microsub enclosures. It fits the need for a small footwell sub that I tuck underneath the glove box in the Miata. It's near impossible to get good bass through the thick trunk of a Miata NC so i swap out 3 different passenger footwell subs depending on if I will have a passenger or not. If I'm simply commuting the JL W3 goes in.

    • @Breezio69
      @Breezio69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThatSaskSilverado just the normal install process on an aftermarket amp. Wiring kit, ditched the middle of the road head unit (non touch screen) it came with for a DVD head unit and wired it all up. If you have the factory touch screen and still want to install an amp you can look into a "line signal drop" and splice into your rear speakers signal to be able run the RCA cables for signal to the amp. Not the cleanest sound but not terrible.

      Shallow mount...
      I literally just picked up an Audiomobile EVO 8" (2408) -- but I _WON'T_ be running this new sub off of the factory Alpine amplifier. I got an AudioControl LC-5.1300 amp to power the new sub and future door speakers. I also plan to yank the stock plastic enclosure out and treat it to some NVX sound dampening / polyfil on the inside.
      I've read of a _lot_ of people having really, really good results with just keeping the factory enclosure and "upgrading" it 😆(believe it or not). My reason for sticking with the factory enclosure for now is because I don't want to lose my "fold-flat" floors -- they've come in handy SO many times for me so far! I also am not looking to have a system like I did when I was 17 either -- hence the reason for just going for a "cleaner / simpler" setup! 🤘🏻😎

    Replaced mine with a bazooka dvc 2ohm sub for about $45 shipped. Has higher sensitivity, but the stock alpine amp is very weak. I honestly think to get any better sound a cheap 200watt rms amp would be needed. After replacing my front dash speakers with infinity 2 ohm and jbl 2 ohm power series in rear doors, the mids and highs are fantastic when on bluetooth or usb, but radio or he radio does not get anywhere near as loud. On phone jbl app that tests decibels output(not sure how accurate) I can hit 101.5 dbls. Everything stock except the rear jbl door speakers and infinity dash speakers(all 3) and the bazooka sub in stock box(is same exact height as the stock alpine). System sounds great but really want a amp for sub or different box.

    I wonder if you replaced amp or added another one, OEM sub rated at 200 watts and your Pioneer sub says 600 watt on the box, I would be worried to crank up music all the way. It can actually burn out amp outputs for your sub, will be costly replacement.

    • @TruckTV
      @TruckTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No added or replaced amps, just running it off the stock one. I'm not a car audio expert so I could be totally wrong, but the Alpine stereo is 500 something watts, I'm not sure if thats divided up between channels (I imagine it is). As JW said the Pioneer is 150W RMS so it's definitely in the safe zone, people have been doing this swap for years without any issues and I haven't had any either. Infact after being broken in this sub sounds even better than I originally thought.

    • @OpusG5
      @OpusG5 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like a safe approach, The parts list from Chrysler says it’s 200 watt sub, I was thinking to replace or install new one in my truck and I stumble on this video, like to know if it’s worth to replace with smaller or equivalent subwoofer if OEM sounded just fine and basically you can’t even hear difference in subs by ear unless the box that contains the woofer is bigger or modified, just wondering what is the benefit to swap out subs with similar specs, that’s all.

    • @TruckTV
      @TruckTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +OpusG5 This is definitely a higher quality sub with much crisper sound. I found the stock one very muddy sounding and in turn the bass wouldn't hit very hard. With this sub the bass hits noticeably harder, sounds deeper and is much clearer and crisper sounding. Even though it's an alpine branded system the speakers are all a much lower quality than if you went into an audio shop and bought any decent name brand aftermarket speakers. This is true for most branded audio systems from many manufacturers. Audio quality is also a very personal thing what sounds good to someone might sound horrible to someone else. I think the Alpine system is a decent system but found the lows muddy and the highs not to be very crisp, now that I've cleaned up the lows with the sub I'll be doing the dash speakers next to clean up the highs. Even though the subs are similarly specced there is a very big difference, at least to my ears.

So I was wrong in giving a blanket statement that I hate subwoofers. Yet, there is much truth in that statement because many subwoofers are their own entity. They give off this thumpin' boom boom sound that is atrocious. I believe the separate subwoofer sound was driven by a culture that desired something comparable to the loud sound of a mountain motor dragster. On that point, audio high fidelity was lost.

    Nice. I’ve been thinking of this upgrade as well but when I asked a customer support agent at Crutchfield about upgrading my 2018 Ram’s rear sub to this one, he advised against it because the stock Alpine amp isn’t strong enough to run it. He said pretty much any other sub for that matter other than the factory sub is too much without upgrading to an aftermarket amp just for it. I told him that yeah I would assume this little speaker would work better if it got more juice but like I said, he made it sound like I was highly not recommended. Any reason why Crutchfield would say that?

      Well, I did end up trying one of these anyway just despite what the Crutchfield guy said and I ended up returning it for a refund. I don’t see how people say these are better as a straight-up factory replacement upgrade. They might be better being powered off of an aftermarket amp but in my opinion, they ain’t worth shit on the factory Alpine amp in these late-model pickups. The bass did sound a little cleaner and just a teeny tiny bit more defined but it was just too quiet in my opinion due to lack of power it needs.

    • @TruckTV
      @TruckTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it definitely doesn't pound but it does clean up the lows compared to the stock sub. They also do take some time to break in, I'd say within about 2 weeks it got noticeably louder, but if you're looking for really deep bass an aftermarket amp, sub and enclosure is definitely the way to go. 👍

    • @billplaisance6387
      @billplaisance6387 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      604MotoVlogs I’ve heard that as well but I’ve never heard of a subwoofer needing an actual “break in” period. Maybe on some of the higher end subs.
      I guess I’m just different because a little bit cleaner bass that you can barely hear is not necessarily better and certainly not worth spending money on a much more power-handling new speaker if all you’re gong to do replace the factory on with it.

    • @billplaisance6387
