  • We update the factory Alpine Premium Sound System in our 2012 Ram 3500. We installed new tweeters (for more detail), sound deadened the doors with acoustic foam from STP Canada and upgraded the grounds on the charging system of the truck.
What we end up with, is a truck that works better, drives down the road better and much improved audio quality by mainly working with what the vehicle was equipped with.

Excellent tutorial on Sound Deadening....Your attention to detail is very professional...Sound Deading SHOULD be the FIRST modification for any vehicle sound system! Then afterwards start with speakers...Lastly head unit and amplifier...The most important Ground is battery to chassis...All the vehicle's current returns via this wire (s), make an additional cable of 4 gauge parallel to the stock cable...The rest of the added ground cables are more placebo unless you live in a high corrosive environment that compromise those grounds. Ie. Salted roads or near the coast...

I like updating the grounds because we live in an area where the roads are salted. Also this truck has additional accessories like a transfer pump, snow plow or a winch. In terms of order of aftermarket I do a different route. I usually will install the amp first with a sub and sound deadening. Then if the customer wants more we change the speakers. Too many times we have installed speakers only and people aren't that impressed, install a 5 channel with a small sub and they're usually blown away.

i put sound deadening in the spare tire well of my chevy trax and that was an unexpected improvement in the bass response from the tiny factory bose subwoofer, i tempted to do the full vehicle then i might get much more out of the bose sound system.

You will get more output. The vehicle will be in itself a better enclosure and you'll reduce resonance caused by driving, so you'll hear more music.

I need to do this in my 2006 GMC Yukon with the BOSE sub in the center console. It pounds hard for a stock system but I know I can make it sound better. It is just so buried inside the console though. I like the way it is set up. The woofer fires towards the firewall. In my 2018 Sierra the sub is also in the console, but it fires down to the floor. It is not as strong sounding; however, they put 6x9 speakers in the doors. The yukon has a dual voice coil sub while the sierra does not.

You'll be very impressed with the vehicle after you sound deaden it I think.

Where is the factory amplifier located on the truck? I have the same alpine system but don’t know where the amp is located

I believe under the driver's side of the dash.

Nice vid, you didn't seem that impressed with the outcome, understandably. If someone is gonna go thru the trouble to sound deadened, might as well upgrade the speakers/power, very much worth it.

It's true, I'd be lying saying this is good enough. However we wanted to explore to see what pure foundation work will do for a stock system. Because not everyone is looking to upgrade the entire system. Some people just want the cabin to be more quiet and have a little better sound. But this truck can definitely use an aftermarket amp and sub woofer if it were mine.

On the test part why is the stereo on pause 😂

I'm on the AUXILIARY setting, you can't pause the source because it's going through a 3.5mm audio jack. Thanks for stopping by though 😉
