    The 16-bit Pow block is from the GBA Mario Bros game found in all the Mario GBA remakes.

    You know, Boo actually made an appearance in Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for the GameBoy Color, so Mario Maker isn't his first appearance in the SMB style.
    Also, what's important to remember about the POW Blocks is that the blue ones clear the entire screen, while the red ones only affect a small vicinity around them (and are used for chain reactions). I think that's the key difference for why they have their distinct colors.

      It looks like it's a theather play. I mean,sure,it fits SMB3 but not SMB,or SMW.

    Three things you guys missed:
    1) in the Japanese version of the trailer, the koopa troppa level preview is much larger, it's just a detailed but i am surprised you glossed over it.
    2) Lakitu's eyes were red in this trailer as opposed to green from the previous, and I think this will indicate whether he will be a friendly lakitu or an enemy lakitu, as i remember them doing the same in super mario world. As the lakitu that was fishing with a 1-up had green eyes but they changed to red and started attacking you once you grabbed his 1-up
    3) The cloud block has always worked like that, you can walk through it from the bottom or from the sides, I remember this because i experimented a lot with lunar magic to have some idea of how assets from mario world would work, and as far as i know it is not a glitch.

    Boos actually existed in Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for the GBC before.
    I'm still hoping for a Mario Advance 4 theme in this game. That game had great sprites and even allowed Mario to use items from different Mario games.

    Andre, you missed a few things. First off, in the level icon with the wigglers on springs, there were Super Mario World log platforms with a goomba walking on them. While I'm on it, I have to think wigglers jumping might be similar to the way they die by shell in world, where the sections jump off one by one. Also, on the Japanese version of the castle, not only were the fire bars longer, but they actually extended beyond the first block, like double sided fire bars, similar to that in Yoshi's Island (though they were a bit slanted in that game). A few other minor things are: a metal box appearing in the water level, but somehow looking differently from other metal boxes in super Mario bros 3, the castle and the end of the level on the progression bar (at the bottom) replaced by a "G" probably to show the different level exits, and I can't help but notice that the Wiggler's eyes look similar to Yoshi's, but hey, that's just me.       Starius64 It looks to me that the Firebars were actually connected to a block off-screen, and thus aren't double-sided. Good observation with the logs--slipped my mind to mention it

      ***** To me it looks like the two blocks the firebars pass through have a slightly different colour and therefore to me look like they'd be the center of its rotation. (Sorry if my english was bad :/ )

      ***** Another detail that you missed, was that the Chain Chomp's chain in the New Super Mario Bros style, is in the style of the other game versions, rather than the New Super Mario Bros. U version.

    I found a couple of things.
    1: 15:16 The log block were in a corner of a super Mario world level which was only in super Mario world (at least as I recall) and have not appeared in previous entries.
    2: 7:31 They show you that the SMB3 Chain chomp has been edited.
    3: 16:20 They have changed the Super Mario Bros Trampoline sprite.

    9:53 you can see something resembling a wing in the bar at the top of the screen. So my thoughts on this are pretty much: 8 bit wing = raccoon suit = cape = acorn suit.

    I don't know how many people remember this but, the GameBoy Advance version of Mario Bros 3 had e-Reader compatibility that allowed you to use the Cape Feather in the game.
    So I wouldn't be surprised if the power ups from one game were able to transition to another game's style in this program.

    It may have been pointed out already, but cloud tiles from Super Mario World do have the property of being "soft platforms"- they can be passed through from the sides and bottom but not the top. So the enemy walking into it is pretty normal.

    5:20 hammer bros were in mario world, they just didnt look like that one, they were the same size as charging chucks, and were always on a flying platform... at least from what I can remember

    I think the frog icon actually goes into the auto-scrolling options. You can choose between a tortoise, a hare, and a cheetah, representing slow, medium, and fast. Just like the Mouse Speed options in Mario Paint!

      I find the games environments to be incredibly bland, plus I'd rather see things from NSMB, like Desert or Snow for example.

      Drew Schmidt Eh, I have no plans to, I was just saying that it's disappointing that they only seem to be showcasing level themes from the original. It might be because I never played the original as a kid. I played SMW, but I play NSMB series far more often, so I probably just have higher standards. Or it could be that I like each world to fit their theme, I like there to be a world themed after a desert, one after snow etc., and these themes don't really sound all that interesting for worlds, and they sound more like each level would fit a level in World 1.

    I can't remember if this was stated in another analysis, but the green shells in Super Mario Bros rotate now, while in the original, they were simply one sprite. This is seen at the start of the 30th anniversary trailer.

    The Lakitu in this trailer has red eyes. In the last trailer the Lakitu threw out coins and had green eyes. Do his eyes change to red if he is throwing enemies and green if throwing helpful items?

    One of the first things I noticed, is that when Mario kicks the koopa shell in the original Super Mario Bros. theme, the shell actually has a rotating animation now in that theme. Koopa shells never rotated like that in the original Super Mario Bros. So some elements like that have received visual upgrades, even if they appeared in that theme in the past.

    A few things:
    1. The POW Block in Super Mario Bros. appears to mimic its appearance in Mario Bros. (the original version).
    2. The Springboard in Super Mario Bros. does not match its appearance in that game.
    3. In 9-3 of The Lost Levels (as well as 8-4), the Bowser Imposter did not have a sprite change when defeated and appeared before the end of the level.
    4. The Koopa Shell in Super Mario Bros. has more frames in Mario Maker than it did in the original game.
    5. The Bob-Omb walking through the cloud platform is normal, and could be done in Super Mario World.

    This also opens up the possibility of more series other than Mario getting the 'make-your-own-game' treatment e.g. LoZ, Kirby. This opens up a whole nother realm of Nintendo games of which I am more than excited.

    Hey Andre, when you were talking about level themes, and mentioning that all the themes from Super Mario Bros. were covered, I don't think we've seen the snowy level theme yet. I doubt they wouldn't have it as a theme, but it was worth mentioning. Thanks for the awesome analysis!

    Off Topic but I found three errors with the all three Mii classes.
    Brawler:The Omega Blitz Trophy states that the finishing blow is a kick but it's actually a chop.
    Sword:The 50 Fact Extravaganza stated that all moves will be exactly the same in both versions even though which isn't true considering the Final Edge attack has wider range in the 3DS version.
    Gunner:Sakurai states that their armcannons are mysterious while we have Palutena actually explain how they function stating that all of their ammo come from their backpack even though there is nothing for the backpack that is connected to the gun for this to happen, also some of the Gunner's costumes don't even have any backpacks that some how gives them their ammo to fight with.

    I noticed that in World 1 it goes in order of games. Level 1 Is the original, 2 is super mario bros 3, 3 is super mario world, and 4 was NSMB.U, so maybe you can't choose what game each level is in an adventure.

      @@wariolandgoldpiramid We’re not getting world maps, but hopefully, we’re getting world sharing and creating. You could create entire Mario adventures by uploading several worlds, each with a several levels in them, and maybe you could even play multiple worlds in a row with a save system, power-ups and lives that carry over, and hell, maybe even Star Coins. The possibilities are limitless! It’s all up to Nintendo. Let’s hope they take the right approach here. Or maybe they won’t do jack shit with world creating and world sharing. Who knows?

    Some may have already noted this, but boo has already gotten a sprite to appear in a Super Mario Bros game--there were races against various Boos in an extra mode in Super Mario Bros Deluxe for Gameboy Color.

    Near the start of the anniversary trailer the green shell can be seen picking up coins in the Super Mario Bros theme and the Super Mario 3 theme. It will probably do that in other themes as well.

    You might have already pointed this out in a previous analysis, but if you look at the Nintendo logo in the Mario level style, and for a split second at the beginning of the Mario Maker trailer, you can see ground blocks (the blocks Mario walks on) placed above the ground. This also makes the question: What will these ground blocks look like when using the other 3 Mario themes?

    When Mario hit the top of the flagpole in the 30th Anniversity video, he actually got an 1-Up, which is something that he didn't in the original Super Mario Bros. The font used for the 1-Up text is also different from the original.

    At 15:57 theres a quick flash of one or two frames that shows footage of the original super Mario. Then shortly after, at 16:19 there's a single frame where you can see some Super Mario world cutting in on the action. Kinda random...

    Here's an observation...
    The breakable blocks as seen in SMB/SMB3/NSMB are represented by the standard yellow flip blocks in the SMW skin. So does that mean those blocks are now being used as the breakable blocks in the SMW skin, which would seem to be the case as shown when the Thwomp on the title screen smashes them, or are they still going to be flip blocks as per usual; in which case that means the function of certain elements wouldn't be the same across different skins.
    I'm thinking the yellow blocks will just be breakable but you'd think they could have made specific breakable blocks in the SMW style in that case and maybe still kept the flippable blocks as they've always worked with new graphic versions for the other themes.

    If you're going to make a follow-up, you could say that the Hammer Bros. might be able to change into Ice, Fire or Boomerang Bros. by shaking them, like Koopas. Also, it'll probably be red Cheep Cheep's first, since the green ones (Deep Cheeps) are the ones that home in on Mario, at least in NSMB.

    A little detail is that the shells in the Super Mario Bros. theme have a new "spinning" animation based on the one from SMB3 -- in the original game, they were just static sprites. Also, the new Lakitu with the fluffier cloud has red eyes, like in his original appearance, while the old Lakitu has green eyes. I'm gonna take a guess and say the green-eyed Lakitu lets you ride in its cloud, while the red-eyed Lakitu does not.

    3:46 it actually does have a true horizontal converor belt, which were moving ropes in its rope ground tileset. It's just that it was never actually used in the game, and just sits in the code. Nintendo may have forgotten about this and based it off of something else.

    I noticed that while playing on the SMB3 skin, the Fire Flower's colors looked more akin to their current colors, and not SMB3's, because in that game, they were just white and black.

    There was a Mario game that was made for the Gameboy Color that featured boo in it's original Super Mario Bros. form before this game. The game was called "Super Mario Bros. Deluxe" and it featured a mini game where you would race boo through different levels. Boo would even change color if you beat him, signifying a harder difficulty.

    The coin icon in the block under Mario at 8:40 denotes the starting position of Mario. You can see it in one of the level start screens later.

    At the beginning of the trailer, we see a big Chain Chomp in his Super Mario Bros form, but he's hiding one more secret: where's his chain!? Maybe he's standing right in front of it, or maybe does this hint as where you have the option of placing a Chain Chomp without the Chain? Any inputs, Andre?

    2. is it possible to create your levels even beyond the Flagpole and the small castle? Because at 18:18 you can see how Mario goes further there despite having reached the end of the level. Or did they made this just for the trailer?
    I mean we can only guess, but I´m interested what you guys think.

    At 10:28. Notice how there is an arrow below World 1, but it's blanked out on World 2 and 3. Maybe that arrow represents that you can play the entire world from
    start-to-finish, and 2 and 3 are blanked because those worlds aren't finished, or maybe it's just your Level Settings.

    Here's what I think...
    The background art/tileset you choose, from the level-theme selection icon just below the game-theme icon, will determine how the level actually plays to a degree. If you choose a water theme for example then it will automatically apply water physics. Makes sense, right. I think it will also determine the music that plays to a degree too, which also makes sense since each theme usually has its own music (normal level, water level, underground, castle). However...
    I think the frog icon will give you access to some kind of music tool also. Since it doesn't have the same selection style as the icons above it, which indicate they go into sub menus by the layered effect, then it might actually go off to a full music editor type screen similar to the one in Mario Paint :-o Although it probably does just select between one of a few music tracks (probably related to each theme) because that's basically what it did in the original Mario Paint (it let you pick a track, with a couple of other icons representing other tracks that you could select too).     I'm pretty confident I'm right here.

    Idk if this has been said, but maybe they plan on releasing DLC that will include more background themes, more Mario themes i.e smb2, sml2-6 golden coins, and maybe even dlc for objects from other games like Kirby, Zelda, or Metroid! Call me crazy, but a man can dream

    just a minor thing I've noticed: the spining koopa shell sprite in the SMB 1 style is slightly diffrent compared to the sprite in the original game. In the original game you weren't able to see the koopa's feet while he was spinning.

    18:45 that is not a glitch, it's how the cloud blocks function in super Mario world; they only have collision on the top; you can walk through any other side.

    In the underwater level with all the cheep cheeps, the red cheep cheep is going in the opposite direction to the school of green ones. This means that you can probably choose which way enemies start moving from when they spawn.

    There's another detail he forgot to mention...
    In Super Mario Bros. AND Super Mario World, when you're Fire Mario or Cape Mario (SMW), you get touched by an enemy, you power down to Super Mario, then Mario, then you die. In the original games, that didn't happen. If you were Fire Mario and get touched by an enemy, you shrink down to Mario, then you die. So here how the line works
    -Fire/Flying Mario
    ENEMY
    -Super Mario (Mushroom)
    ENEMY
    -Mario (shrunk)
    ENEMY
    -Death (Oh, mama mia!)
    Original:
    -Fire Mario/Flying Mario
    ENEMY
    -Mario
    ENEMY
    -Death
    Like the remake of SMW on the GBA, but now it's on the SNES form. I LOVE that!

    It was a long video, so I'm not quite sure if you mentioned it, but some further evidence that you can throw items in the original Mario bros. is that he only starts running after the shell is kicked. As the button to pick up items and run is the same in Mario games, this would seem to suggest that 8-bit Mario can pick up and throw items.

    That's awesome how you can make each level in a world different themes. So world 1-2 can be 8-bit well world 1-1 can be HD.
