    ♥ Recorded in a closet at Avi and Kevin's apartment and filmed in their kitchen on an iPad, Pentatonix spent only $400 on this video and went on to win the Grammy for "Best Arrangement" at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards.
    Just goes to show that real talent can't be denied.
    This song is a mashup of 7 separate Daft Punk songs: Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, Television Rules the Nation, and Around the World.
    Loving this journey; looking forward to more!

      It wasn't filmed on an iPad. Their early couch videos were... but despite being in their apartment, this was professionally recorded by Fifgen Films. There's a lighting and video blog still around with photos.

    This is a medley of 7 songs by the French duo named Daft Punk. Pentatonix is known for their medleys and mashups. They are incredible. Thank you for the reaction. Happy that you enjoyed it.

    "There's just something about this guy's voice" - said every Pentaholic ever about Mitch! Loved your reaction. It's incredible isn't it? They won their first Grammy for this. In fact the Grammy's created a category specifically so that PTX could win it for their Daft Punk medley. I still think it's the best a cappella arrangement ever, closely followed by their version of Bohemian Rhapsody, which Brian May said was outstanding. You should do that one next! Enjoy the PTX rabbit hole!

    I love all of their songs but you need to hear the Prayer for shear beauty, New rules x are you somebody, gold, Bohemium Phasody, there are so many. They have many originals. Love again takes on a Daft Punk type look. They have hundreds all good winning 3 grammys off of utube says it all

    Mitch is a rare Counter Tenor. He is so incredibly talented. "The Prayer" is a good showcase of his vocal abilities.

    Mitch is featured in The Prayer. His performence is phenominal. Celine Dion and the famous opera singer Andrea Botacceli covered this song sometime ago. (You can find it on you tube to compare). Mitch covers Celine Dion's part in the song, and upgrades her. BAM!!

    There are 7 songs in this mashup of hits from the French EDM duo Daft Punk: Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder-Better-Faster-Stronger, Television Rules the Nation, Around the World - the last is only heard from Kirstin during Avi's lead in Television Rules the Nation and during the final mashup of all of the songs.

    This medley won them their first Grammy, for "Best Arrangement Instrumental or A Cappella." Before they won it, the Grammys didn't even have a category for A Cappella; NARAL had to change the category from "Best Arrangement Instrumental" to include A Cappella, just so they could give the Grammy to Pentatonix. Their second Grammy, for "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy," was in the same category.
    The budget for this one was $400, most of which went for makeup (presumably including the blue contacts), a single ring light, and to pay Ben Bram for professional editing. The audio was recorded in a closet (it had good acoustics) and the video at their makeup artists's kitchen table. Kevin found the contacts irritated his eyes too much, hence his visor. Judging by how red Avi's eyes were he must have had some trouble with the contacts as well.

    I’m so glad you keep coming back for more PTX. I really enjoyed this reaction. Going forward, try Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King for another full, rich, lush sound; go for Come Along or their 90s Dance Medley for pure bop and fun; and check out Mad World or Imagine for a little more introspection. Honestly, just pick the title of any song you like - or, better yet, choose one you’re not so fond of and see if they change your mind. Thanks. Peace from Ohio …

    Subbed for all the glorious pentatonix reactions, loving them so far! I would suggest checking out Todrick Hall & Pentatonix 'Wizard of Ahhhs', as well as Come Along, and Be My Eyes (one of their originals written by Kirsten)

    • @margretrosenberg420
      @margretrosenberg420 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Three things about "Wizard of Ahhhs":
      1. The copyright is owned by Todrick Hall, *not* RCA, and Todrick seems to be more interested in publicity than in stomping on innocent reactors for copyright violation (I would argue fair use, but TH-cam has to err on the side of caution). Therefore you probably won't have to do anything to it to keep the video from being blocked.
      2. "Wizard of Ahhhs" is an homage to the 1939 Movie "The Wizard of Oz," starring Judy Garland. If you aren't familiar with the original movie, "Wizard of Ahhhs" will make no sense, so be sure you've seen that first (and if you haven't seen the movie already you should check it out anyway; just because it's a fantastic movie).
      3. "Wizard of Ahhhs" is almost seven minutes long. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to react.

      @@margretrosenberg420 On board with all your points, especially #2. There are so many clever references to the original movie, besides the overall plot of the video, that having seen the movie beforehand is a basic requirement. Unfortunately, most young people haven't, so they're left with very little of the PTX homage to appreciate. Fortunately for us, the Trio trained in musical theatre, and know the oldies. Then there's Todrick's genius, of course! 🙂

    • @margretrosenberg420
      @margretrosenberg420 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kayecastleman6353 Oh, yeah. Pentatonix and Todrick are all geniuses; no doubt about that, and the trio's musical theater experience was *definitely* in evidence in _Wizard of Ahhhs._ Though I rather wonder who it really was who chose the songs in that last scene where the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion sing their "Goodbyes" to Dorothy - all three of those short solos are so on-point for Pentatonix. When I listen to that, what I hear are Scott, Mitch, and Avi singing to Kirstie, not their characters singing to Dorothy.
      There's a sort of unwritten code among pentaholics - "DON'T WARN REACTORS! YOU'LL SPOIL THE SURPRISE!" In general I agree with that; I never warn reactors about what they'll encounter in "Bohemian Rhapsody" or "Aha Singapore the Star Vista" (though I do suggest that they watch the official video of "Aha!" before watching the fan video). But I finally got sick of hearing "Wait! Where did the Oompa Loompas come from?!" during _Wizard of Ahhhs,_ so I started telling them to watch the darn movie first.
      When I was a kid *everyone* had seen _The Wizard of Oz_ ; it was aired on television every year. It got to the point where Mr. Rogers had to do an interview with the actress who played the Wicked Witch of the West in order to reassure kids, so they could watch it without nightmares. But that was a very long time ago, it seems, and now more people have seen _Wicked_ than the original movie. Too bad. Yes, there are a lot of good movies being made now, and I thoroughly enjoy them, but I hate to see the classics sink into obscurity.

    • @kayecastleman6353
      @kayecastleman6353 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@margretrosenberg420 Always so much meat in your comments! Yes, the final scene in "Wizard of Ahhs" does feel very personal, and possibly Todrick gave PTX some creative input... back then, at least! I know fans like reactors to be surprised, which has been a trademark of PTX since the Sing Off days, but it frustrates me to see them confused, which often happens with the newbies. So I tend to spill the beans, much like you did here, just so they can properly prepare themselves to at least recognize the surprise. And finally, I'm so on the same page with you about the old movies that were staples for us. What happened to "Heidi" with Shirley Temple at Christmas? All the great Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly routines? No one appreciates the shock value of, "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!" any more. Maybe it's just as well. We lived in a pretty whitewashed world back then, on many levels. Still, we're all allowed to be nostalgic about our own era! 😉

      @margretrosenberg420 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kayecastleman6353 Have you ever seen _Shanghai Knights,_ with Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson? Near the beginning of the movie there's a fight scene, with the tune of "Singin' In The Rain" playing in the background, while Jackie Chan performs this incredible "fight" that's choreographed to exactly match Gene Kelly's dance while he was singing that song in the movie. It's hilarious.
      My husband and I saw _Shanghai Knights_ in a theater, and we were laughing our fool heads off during that routine. And all around us were young people looking at us in bewilderment, wondering what was so funny about a Jackie Chan fight scene. After all; that's what Jackie Chan does.
      They had never seen _Singin' In The Rain,_ didn't recognize the song or know that there was a dance that went with it, and had probably never heard of Gene Kelly. Sad.

It begins with Scott talking about how they found Kevin and how wonderful he is, then Kevin does this incredible performance that includes cello, Kevin dancing, and Matt playing the drum. The one from Owensboro, Kentucky (Kevin's home town) is likely the best.
