Fuller face, slim face, short hair, mullet halfway down his back, fully shaved head, mustache, clean shaven, all part of the many, many looks of Mitch Grassi. They later got a contract with a subsidiary, Madison Gate, that was teeny and had no budget for them - so they used Patreon to fund their videos (the Thanks at the end are still their top-tier patrons)... but when this video went viral they got bumped up to the main RCA label, where they still have a contract to this day. They had a couple viral videos before this one, but this was their first HUGE accomplishment (since surpassed by Hallelujah). And, of course, this won them their first Grammy... which was renamed from Best Instrumental Arrangement to Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Capella just so they could get the nomination. In 2020 PTX put out an EP called At Home that was completely arranged over Zoom and recorded separately, in their own homes, in studios they set up for themselves. They had to buy the equipment, learn to do the recording and work the software, then they sent their tracks to their engineers and producers to put together into the song. They created videos for the music the same way, recording themselves in their own homes then sending off the files to be arranged. You might be interested in some of those songs - the Home medley, When The Party's Over (Billy Eilish), Break My Heart (Dua Lipa), Blinding Lights (The Weeknd), Dreams (The Cranberries) and Cologne (Clean Bandit) which didn't get a video because they didn't think the format would do it justice.

Matt Sallee replaced Avi, the bass, with the black hair and beard in 2017. Kevin, with the shades, is the beatboxer, but he and Avi (or Matt) do a lot of sounds in tandem. It is SO much fun to watch someone discover PTX for the first time!! They started out as kids and have improved from already among the very best in a capella and have actually improved over the last 10+ years. There is such an incredible library of incredible covers and originals to experience.. I have liked and subscribed just to watch you enjoy their genius. The original 3 are Scott, Kirstin and Mitch. They grew up together since ages 8 and 10 and the other 2 were brought into the picture when they competed on the Sing Off in 2011 at age 19. Kevin, the beatboxer was attending Yale University as a medical student and was finishing his 1st year when PTX contacted him to see if he'd join them as well as Avi, the base singer so they could complete the minimum number to compete. The rest is history and the only change is Avi (base) left in 2017 for personal reasons (their world tours were exhausting for him and he missed his family.. it was amiable) They replaced him with Matt. That is the only change.. Mitch and Kirstin have constantly changed their looks so that can be confusing. There are SO many songs and live concerts to listen to it's insane!! They have 3 Grammys. You may enjoy one they came out with this year since you've enjoyed some of their compilation covers.. try 90's DANCE MEDLEY.. this is mostly when they started adding some auto tune which was really necessary for the 90's experience..

I Love this reaction. I think you should have had "Processing ..." above your head till the blond (white) hair guy, Scott, starts singing. Then it runs the line from "this is good!" to "I'm a Pentaholic!" Now you have a reputation to uphold, so: 1. It is the bass singer Avi, the guy with the dreadlocks, who left the group. Yeah this is about 8 years old. They had lost their music contract, so they were in economic free fall. This song helped turn it around and got an emmy for the composition. They did this video for a ridiculously small amount of money. It is a DJ style mix of 7 songs by Daft Punk (French EDM duo). The original songs were long running for extended play and dancing. This is more of a hard hitting medley. Kevin is a big Daft Punk fan, so this was a way of honoring and celebrating their music. This is the original group that formed for the Sing Off. Mitch was just eating too much fast food. Probably stress eating because of the financial problems, like many people do. Avi Kaplan, bass (no shirt, beard, long hair), left in mid 2017 and Matt Sallee started as bass in late 2017 or early 2018. No other changes.

Have home free cover THIS, lol. Ptx is the best most decorated of any acapella group, and all others thst enjoy any kind of success in the genre can thank ptx. And the only different member is avi, bass, who was in the band from beginning before leaving and being replaced by matt.
I had never heard the originals of many songs covered by PTX, and those by Daft Punk are among them. I had to go listen to the original ones that were covered in this video to discover I actually like Daft Punk. You'll love their very first original song that they did right around the time they did this video, so it still has that edm high energy and space aliens (steampunk type aliens) theme to it. Mitch was a beast on that song, hitting those high notes. When Kevin made that first bass drop, I lost my shit and went in hard on that dance beat. PTX probably did better without the guy who didn't think Acapella was "marketable". The funny part is that contract was awarded as the prize for the Acapella singing competition The Song Off. The season PTX won season 3 had the most (16) groups competing. Season 4 had 8(?) and season 5 (the last one) had fewer yet.

I really like your reactions, but WRONG...you got them confused. Avi, the base (the bearded one), left the group after almost 7 years....he recommended his replacement, Matt Sallee. Mitch is the one with the high voice (counter-tenor), along with Scott (baritone - tall blond guy), and Kirstie (mezzo-tenor) have been friends since they were 8-9 years old...they were only 19 years old, when Avi and Kevin (beatboxer) (2-3 years older than them) joined the group to become Pentatonix in order to participate in an acapella competition TV show (third season of Sing Off in 2011). They won and received a $200K contract with Sony, who dropped them after one week, so they decided to create their own TH-cam Channel...the rest is history. They now have over 19 MILLION(!) subscribers with 7+ BILLION(!) views of their 400+ videos. To date, they have 3 Grammys (Daft Punk was the first); multiple platinum albums; numerous concerts and guest appearances on TV; and 4 worldwide tours (always sold out), with another scheduled for 2022. I Love this reaction. I think you should have had "Processing ..." above your head till the blond (white) hair guy, Scott, starts singing. Then it runs the line from "this is good!" to "I'm a Pentaholic!" Now you have a reputation to uphold, so: 1. It is the bass singer Avi, the guy with the dreadlocks, who left the group. He left in good standing and has been doing more music. Matt took his place. 2. "Bohemian Rhapsody," the song by Queen, was done in an epic way by Pentatonix. You have to react too it. 😁😁😎

Yes, this is the ONE that made them international superstars. The only membership change in their ten years has been bass singer Avi (dark beard) who left in 2017 and was replaced by Matt in early 2018. This is not just one song, it's a mashup of seven Daft Punk songs.

Yeah this is about 8 years old. They had lost their music contract, so they were in economic free fall. This song helped turn it around and got an emmy for the composition. They did this video for a ridiculously small amount of money.
It is a DJ style mix of 7 songs by Daft Punk (French EDM duo).
The original songs were long running for extended play and dancing. This is more of a hard hitting medley.
Kevin is a big Daft Punk fan, so this was a way of honoring and celebrating their music.
This is the original group that formed for the Sing Off. Mitch was just eating too much fast food. Probably stress eating because of the financial problems, like many people do. Avi Kaplan, bass (no shirt, beard, long hair), left in mid 2017 and Matt Sallee started as bass in late 2017 or early 2018. No other changes.

Have home free cover THIS, lol. Ptx is the best most decorated of any acapella group, and all others thst enjoy any kind of success in the genre can thank ptx. And the only different member is avi, bass, who was in the band from beginning before leaving and being replaced by matt.
I had never heard the originals of many songs covered by PTX, and those by Daft Punk are among them. I had to go listen to the original ones that were covered in this video to discover I actually like Daft Punk. But in any case, I hope you enjoy the many amazing songs by PTX that are waiting for you.

Mitch was a beast on that song, hitting those high notes.
When Kevin made that first bass drop, I lost my shit and went in hard on that dance beat. It's so damn good of an og song that it'll work on any playlist....as long as there are superb speakers to catch the feel of Kevin's hard beat.

They won on a tv competition for A capella groups called the Sing off, but.....this is the first hit that catapulted them into international stardom. They won their very first Grammy Award from it, and got a positive reaction/comment from Daft Punk themselves. They were impressed.

NOT one song, but a mashup of seven songs -- some of which they are singing simultaneously!!! (I remember it being labeled Daft Punk Medley so it was clear it was a mashup.) Recently a colleague of theirs said in reading the music that he couldn't figure out who was singing what at any one time.

PTX probably did better without the guy who didn't think Acapella was "marketable". The funny part is that contract was awarded as the prize for the Acapella singing competition The Song Off. The season PTX won season 3 had the most (16) groups competing. Season 4 had 8(?) and season 5 (the last one) had fewer yet.

@@ReactionsbyD Mitch was roughly 21 when this was filmed in 2013. Yeah, he's changed a lot since then. Kirstie has changed as much, if not more. Scott grew a beard but other than that is virtually unchanged. And Kevin is quintessentially Kevin, the perfect man. Seriously. His talents are off the charts. Avi is missed but Matt (not in this video) has done a superb job since the change.

Now that you've listened to PTX and you are hooked, how about listening to Marcelito Pomoy's cover of The Prayer by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. This guy is self-taught and sings a duet with himself. He was living on the streets at 7 and started singing to take away the loneliness and then moved on to duets. He can sing in multiple languages (Filipino is his native tongue and knows no other), can sing female and/or male parts easily and can do just about every song out there. Start with the Prayer, then the Power of Love, then Beauty and the Beast, etc. He sings live in the Wish Bus radio channel 107.5. I really like your reactions, but WRONG...you got them confused. Avi, the base (the bearded one), left the group after almost 7 years....he recommended his replacement, Matt Sallee. Mitch is the one with the high voice (counter-tenor), along with Scott (baritone - tall blond guy), and Kirstie (mezzo-tenor) have been friends since they were 8-9 years old...they were only 19 years old, when Avi and Kevin (beatboxer) (2-3 years older than them) joined the group to become Pentatonix in order to participate in an acapella competition TV show (third season of Sing Off in 2011). They won and received a $200K contract with Sony, who dropped them after one week, so they decided to create their own TH-cam Channel...the rest is history. They now have over 19 MILLION(!) subscribers with 7+ BILLION(!) views of their 400+ videos.
To date, they have 3 Grammys (Daft Punk was the first); multiple platinum albums; numerous concerts and guest appearances on TV; and 4 worldwide tours (always sold out), with another scheduled for 2022. Incidentally, all their fans are considered PENTAHOLICS (but the unwritten rule is you need to learn their names). BTW, if you were surprised that Daft Punk had 357 Million views, check out Hallelujah with 625 Million views !!

Avi suggesting Matt is a myth. They used a service and Matt auditioned without knowing what group he was auditioning for. When Matt found out it was PTX he learned his part for all their songs. Avi later tweated that the had chosen wisely.
Kirstie is a mezzo soprano. Tenor is a male voice. Kevin is a beatboxer and tenor, and occasionally plays cello in the group (You should check out his version of "Down".
