I am coming up 66 years of age and have been listening to these guys for the majority of my life . What these guys give should touch your soul . It aint just music ... this is more ... much more ...
This is perfection. It calls to that place in the heart that is the best of us, that makes you want to rise up and make a difference in this beautiful, tragic world. And I love how, in one of the close-ups when he’s singing, you can see that Bruce Hornsby is making this music by the sweat of his brow. That is what it takes to creat perfection... hard work that comes from heart and soul.
I'm 20 and I am sure that the music of nowadays stay behind this wonderful type of music. The 80's songs have something that today's songs don't have ( without any attempt to disparage this music). I simply love the passion with which Bruce plays the piano
injanhoi1 True. These days it's more about the show (Twerking and all) and less about the substance (words, melodies). Too bad. Like Don Henly once said: "It's all packaging".
Fortunately, "they" do. Check out: Mandolin Orange, Frank Turner, Passenger, Molly Tuttle, Lake Street Dive, the National and there are 100 more, but there's a start.
I'd humbly go beyond your comments but and unfortunately,...we don't have these type of songs anymore because the world has changed socially and culturally. God bless you all guys to love this amazing song anyways, and God bless Don Henley to have wrote this amazing piece of music. Ermz :-)
One of the most soulful and lyrical songs I've ever heard; it grows on me a little more on each listen, and I've been listening to it for a lotta years. Fabulous.
Que voz tan bella para mi una de las mejores a nivel mundial 😢😢😢😢y esa melodía tan nostálgica tan llena de recuerdos. Que grandes momentos para los que amamos estos sentimientos
One of the best collaborations ever!! Reminds me of working at the Movie theater. This would play on rotation. I was 18. Now I'm 44 and the song still has its relevance. I play it for my children. I tell them? This is real music!! Both gentlemen are musical geniuses.
I heard of this song/band in my early 20’s, through a friend…we eventually had 4 Children together. I have long been doing Healthcare in a major way, I’ve just turned 63 in April, and resonates even more now! Now, I truly appreciate! So thanks, so Much, Bruce Hornsby, Don Henley, the Range, because you are absolutely, awesome!! My love, sent from Australia ❤
Our parents said the same thing about our music in the 60’s and 70’s. Why are you listening to the Beatles when there is real music like Benny Goodman and Bing Crosby. Every generation thinks everyone else should like our music because it was the best
I was fortunate to see Bruce live twice in the UK and his piano playing is simply superb. How a simple one handed caress of the keyboard can produce such a haunting sound is beyond me.
Just imagine Don Henley didn't go and visit Bruce Hornsey, that piece of music would have remained fairly anonymous forever. 2 great worlds collide to create a masterpiece
They put the words to the pain that we have all felt as we realize that our parents would not be here forever, that the world is constantly on the edge. and that the world doesn't make the sense we were promised. I offered up my best defense, but I was forced to face the end of the innocence. They helped me understand it, at least.
I wish Don and Bruce did more together, they seemed to have a great chemestry and their voices go great together. I rarely see a guy like Bruce who is sooo fluent in piano :)
What a sobering song to listen to in these strange times. Two world class musicians who sing in perfect harmony. Have been lucky to have been to see both artists in concert in separate bands. What a duo !!!!
The end of the 80's was the end of the innocence, the world is a worse place. I miss the sounds and feel of this great time, maybe I'm just being nostalgic but I don't feel their is any innocence in the world anymore.
What is actually happening is the end of innocence for each of us who were raised in 80s and 90s. We recall our carefree life, with hopes & purposes are abound, reminiscing our first romances, all when life was so easy & tender.
September 1984, when I was at the age of 12 years and 8 months, was when the innocence ended for me. I came home from school one Friday to learn that a friend of the family had abandoned his wife and three children to the mercy of a welfare cheque. It was later revealed he was a homosexual. I was very angry and homophobic as a result of this, and it took me 10 years to get over my homophobia.
I think you need to go waaaay back to get there. The 80s was a terrible time unless you were a child and lived worry free in a western country. Try before the rise of civilisation where we just lived among nature like all the other creatures and before we got crazy ideas about killing everything for tokens.
What a beautiful, beautiful, song! A stark reminder to us all of how the times have changed and what we take for granted, all that is good in this world, will one day fade away. I think about my parents, in particular my Dad, when I listen to this song. How I miss him so 💔
So sad, there was a time when music was like this. People with talent who could write songs and sing. Now we have people who can dance, look good and of course X-Factor!
Don Henley is excellent at doing backing vocals. Listen to their eagles' songs when Glen Frey is the Lead Vocals they sound beautiful and unmatchable. And also his collaborations with Trisha Yearwood ( walk away Joe) and Patti Smyth (sometimes love just ain't enough)
Who knows how long this will last How we've come so far so fast? Somewhere back there in the dust That same small town in each of us I need to remember this So baby give me just one kiss Come and take a long last look Before we say goodbye, goodbye Can lay your head back on the ground Let your hair fall all around Offer up your best defense For this is the end This is the end This is the end Of the innocence
If I were walking past 15 rooms full of concert performers playing at the same time, I would sit in this one. Something about this music that takes you to another place.
I wonder what 's with this song that makes it more beautiful each time I listen to it, and I've been listening to it since it first aired, way back in the day... 💖
I am coming up 66 years of age and have been listening to these guys for the majority of my life . What these guys give should touch your soul . It aint just music ... this is more ... much more ...

Hey young guys.
I am 72 and listen still to those great music
Bruce Hornsby is a musical treasure.
The same can be said for Don Henley.
Two legends. The music today no comparison.
This era is almost gone...enjoy the artistry while it lasts. Thank you Gents.

UK
This song is fantastic.Bruce Hornsby has the most wonderful piano playing style, it sounds excellent on everything he plays on.

When music and lytics meant something,2 legends, one fantastic tune that will never age, take me back to the 80's.
Could listen to these two all day
What a brilliant song! Unfortunately they don't seem to make songs like this nowadays.
injanhoi1 been searching...none !

Always had a feeling Bruce was behind that song. Only took 30 years to find out. Great work guys. Just as relevant now as ever!!!
Truelly my friend...
Its the piano sound thats very unique to Bruce's music
I always wondered that, it always sounded like his work.
Imaway...seeyou...sometime.. after..brokenisalready...
Also has a incredible song with Chaka Khan .

Bellisima cáncion recuerdos de mi juventud me trae mucha nostalgia
The best. Today's kids should listen to this instead of being overdosed by plastic music. To understand what music was meant to be.
Our parents said the same thing about our music in the 60’s and 70’s. Why are you listening to the Beatles when there is real music like Benny Goodman and Bing Crosby. Every generation thinks everyone else should like our music because it was the best
Agree..
Brings back memories from past to the present day wonderful
Hornsby and Henley proved themselves the last two major American prophets with this song.
Pure genius. Two craftsmen doing what they do best. A genuine & true collaboration.
I was fortunate to see Bruce live twice in the UK and his piano playing is simply superb. How a simple one handed caress of the keyboard can produce such a haunting sound is beyond me.
Exelliant
Bruce is one of a few musicians who can make a piano talk, or sing in this case.
Hornsby is nothing short of genius. Along with Floyd Cramer, my favourite piano players ever!
Just imagine Don Henley didn't go and visit Bruce Hornsey, that piece of music would have remained fairly anonymous forever. 2 great worlds collide to create a masterpiece
Thank you for the beautiful music, the song and the duets Don Henley & Bruce Hornsby 🎵🎼🎶 too iconic 🎤😍🎩
What a great song sung by these two great singers
They put the words to the pain that we have all felt as we realize that our parents would not be here forever, that the world is constantly on the edge. and that the world doesn't make the sense we were promised. That bit at the end just after their harmonizing, where the piano comes in - shivers ❤
Less is more - the song and its arrangement leave us space to enter and be carried away...
Listening to pure class
Bruce Hornsby is an genius beyond measure of human ability
What will the world be without Great Music
What a sobering song to listen to in these strange times. Two world class musicians who sing in perfect harmony. Have been lucky to have been to see both artists in concert in separate bands. What a duo !!!!
Just brilliant! How good is music sometimes?!!
Brilliant music love these guys never get tired of that piano gets better with ever listening
@@imeldaquilty1972 Got that right girl, don't get any better. you stay safe, Jon UK
When you have talent like that collaborating, everything just falls into place x
Listening to this beautiful song in the 17th July 2020 a fantastically beautiful distraction from what is going on in the world at the moment ❤️👍
Julie Williams savage song reminds me when I met my wife still together 31-7-2020 still a great song
❤
Amen to that. Keep safe and keep hoping for better days ahead.
最後の二人のハーモニーに涙が出ました。
The end of the 80's was the end of the innocence, the world is a worse place. I miss the sounds and feel of this great time, maybe I'm just being nostalgic but I don't feel their is any innocence in the world anymore.
I think the same. I greet you from Argentina.
What is actually happening is the end of innocence for each of us who were raised in 80s and 90s. We recall our carefree life, with hopes & purposes are abound, reminiscing our first romances, all when life was so easy & tender.
This song it's about virginity... But it's ok... The "sex-Drug liberation" moviment in the sixties is even worse...
September 1984, when I was at the age of 12 years and 8 months, was when the innocence ended for me. I came home from school one Friday to learn that a friend of the family had abandoned his wife and three children to the mercy of a welfare cheque. It was later revealed he was a homosexual.

Magical. Poetry rarely found in the songs of today. Two legends ❤️
What a beautiful, beautiful, song! A stark reminder to us all of how the times have changed and what we take for granted, all that is good in this world, will one day fade away. I think about my parents, in particular my Dad, when I listen to this song. How I miss him so 💔
Classic song even in 2020 One of the best song ever made 👍
Awesome. So Nice Henley accented at the end. Complete gentlemen.
This is pure class and I apologize for killing the song every time i try to sing it in the car - which if very often.
名曲です!今でも大好きで聞いてます!
3:48 If your ears don't tell you, your eyes can, Don Henley counting the beats, like any great musician.
Buen dueto.. magnífica canción
the raspy voice and the piano work so well together.
Beautiful, beautiful song. Smooth vocals and beautiful music ❤
So sad, there was a time when music was like this. People with talent who could write songs and sing. Now we have people who can dance, look good and of course X-Factor!
Amazing song, still i, am hearing in 2019, 14 april.
What a beautiful song ❣️😍😍
WHAT A SONG! SUCH A GREAT TUNE! WELL DONE TO BOTH!
Don Henley is one of the worlds greatest ever singer songwriters. It’s ironic that when they sing together Bruce Hornsby has the even stronger voice!
Boys Of Summer I think he wrote that pretty quick too once he had the music. It's a hard pick as which tune is better, that or this
Don Henley is excellent at doing backing vocals. Listen to their eagles' songs when Glen Frey is the Lead Vocals they sound beautiful and unmatchable. And also his collaborations with Trisha Yearwood ( walk away Joe) and Patti Smyth (sometimes love just ain't enough)
How it that ironic? Don Henley isn't a power singer, he's a storyteller and excellent at that.
@@NordicDartfrog That is exactly what he is, he tells stories and paints pictures with his voice and lyrics. He breathes life into the lyrics.
He's doing backing vocals
Not meant to be stronger
Simply a stunning performance sadly lacking in todays times.

Wow magical❤️❤️,,, where did those days go 😪😪😪
This song reminds me of Steve Wright playing it in the afternoon, frequently. RIP Steve.
Best live version ever
What a performers, what a song. Absolute fantastic! Thanks so much.
Bruce -One of the really great contemporary musicians , musical , technically superb, never out of the ballpark...yeh, I like him!
Who knows how long this will last
How we've come so far so fast?
Somewhere back there in the dust
That same small town in each of us
I need to remember this
So baby give me just one kiss
Come and take a long last look
Before we say goodbye, goodbye
Can lay your head back on the ground
Let your hair fall all around
Offer up your best defense
For this is the end
This is the end
This is the end
Of the innocence

Bruce Hornsby. An amazing musician and composer with Don Henley. They don't make like this anymore!
First heard this song on the radio one Valentine's day many years ago.
I fell in love with it right there and then.
If I were walking past 15 rooms full of concert performers playing at the same time, I would sit in this one. Something about this music that takes you to another place.
