Some days I wish I could go back in life. Not to change anything, but to feel a few things twice.
Nice comment, peace!!
Music makes this possible for me sometimes...
me too brother there are so many young girls i'd lve to feel again just send me back 40 years for one weekend, i'd give up al my days just for one last view of san francisco from the roof of the hamms brwery
Well said brother!
Wow if only.. Me you and countless millions more dear friend. This is no dress rehearsal, live +make memories, its all we can hope for. ☺
The older you get the more this song punches you in the gut.
No $Hit! Once you cross 40 your start looking backwards.
@@bobbyscalchi4013 Missed opportunities and loss.
@@MrLuigiFercotti so many miss opportunities
No shit!!!!
Why can’t we just hit rewind
35 summers later this song still gives me the chills.
This version was mind blowing!!!!!!
I love this Song.... Wonderfull Version.
Same
Classic. It's aged way better than HS.
72+35=??
The 60's and 70's were some of my best days in life. And I'm not forgetting the 80's. I'm 71 now. How I miss those days.
Me too. I'm 60 this year. Born in 1964. I've lived in 7 states. Love this music.
Beautiful song! Whoever is reading this, have a great weekend!
You as well Peter. Thanks
You to man

Peter ... You too, Pete. Happy Labor Day at ya, brother.
How does Don Henley keep from crying when he sings this song this way? I can't.
Listen to david fords cover.🤔
guilty
The part where he sings “but sometimes I miss you babe “ kills me every time.
@@BBPalmer420 lol
Bcuz he's a psychopath.
Dear Lord, this version is magnificent🤩
I know!!! Hearing this for the first time❤❤❤
@@marihall5005Exactly, we can only concur.
@@marihall5005 what time is it now (how many umpteenths? LOL!)? I've heard it at least ten time now, and it's only getting better. L/R
😊
And he's only doing it because his voice has lost some of the upper register. Utterly brilliant.
Can we get some love for the incomparable Mike Campbell? He has written some of the greatest guitar parts in history. He NEVER wastes a note.
The dirty knobber
A legend👍😎
Top 10 all time rock guitarist
Mike always payed the most tasteful parts, always served the song. A great but under-rated musician!
TruDat!
Being old hurts. Too many memories. Thanks, Don.
Wow, what a great way to put it..very true unfortunately
It hurts ?
No, no, no. You gotta love those memories. Growing old is a gift which is not bestowed on everyone.
@@roadrunner7218 Nice.
Being old is a beautiful luxury, but definitely hurts at times. I agree.
In the tail end of the 80's I met a woman that was beyond anything I could ever dream of. She was older, very mature and she kept herself very well... and I was a shy, skinny 24 year old that wore glasses. On the very last day of our acquaintance, it was a sunny day in Florida and I was on my way to see her. I drove my car across the long suspension bridge that has a steep rise to allow ships to pass underneath. As my car started up the bridges elevation, everything seemed to disappear, and it was only me flying into the sunny blue sky. And to this day, when I hear "The Boys of Summer"... I reflect on that moment and smile.
What an elegant note....
*I tell him I will always love him
Such a beautiful soul he was. I miss him ..I miss my friend.
One of the best voices to ever sing any song Don Henley.
Stern’s audio engineer deserves accolades (again) as well as Henley & the band...just phenomenally mixed. Incredible job.
Word
Yessir. These sessions are always on point and the conversation is so organic it just makes it even better.
Beetlejuice was engineer on this one.
Yes.
He has the best sound stage
The original version makes me feel a haunting feeling
This version gives me an ache in my chest and makes me want to cry
Yes. Very discerning.
Increíble versión, thanks a lot
Perfectly expressed
One of the greatest singers of all time. Never disappoints
And justin beiber!! Lols
Don and Howard have something in common:
They're both 'anointed' as they say in the Christian world.
.
Really? Of all time? Get a grip, and a bunch of perspective while you're at it. He's only an average singer, although he does have a distinctive voice, but in terms of technique and range he isn't really much above average, and, of course, light years away from classical/lyric singers. Don Henley's talents lie more on his songwriting, although he does manage to express his emotions quite clearly in his interpretations of his songs..
@@xavieryates9782 he's better than the crap of today's music
Golden Throat as Geffin calls him
Still gives me the goosebumps all these years after. Transcendent
Who else fell in love with this again , Listened to it again at least 10 times and shed a tear or two..... LOL
FUCKING BRILLIANT , ... for a lack of a much better word
who else misses 1985 .........Ohh man... the good ol days
"Don't look back, you can never look back." But of course, everyone always does.
If Don hadn't looked back we would not have this great song. Those lyrics are so true and like you said everybody does it, but thats what makes it a memory and brings inner peace to us. Peace!
Yes we do, that line is ironic as that's what the song is about! Looking back.
yup
Well, not always peace...sometimes pain...lost youth, missed opportunities and whatnot. The rest of my family got to have a youth, I didn't due to mental illness, social anxiety and prescription drug addiction. I'm better now, but I am 40.
I heard this song when I was still very young and was determined to not have these regrets burdened on me, but they happened anyway. Ah well it could be much worse in retrospect. Never had to suffer through war, poverty or early death of family members, and am younger than a lot of people when they finally get a handle on this stuff. Peace!
The true time machine is ya brain
Still one of my favorite songs.
I remember when this song first aired on the radio. My life had barely begun with the promise of experiences yet to come.
Now, I’m approaching the twilight of my life and I can only look back at the loves, the heartbreaks, the joys, and the regrets. This version is simply...sublime
this guy and a few others...maybe throw Petty and Bob Seger in that group...what say ye?
Very well written tx! I must be the same age as you, life had so much possibility. Now older, we’ve lived and learned and I’ve come to believe that anticipation of growing older is far greater than the reality in most cases.
you and me both ! greetings from Wales .
Yes, a beautiful version of this song
Very poewick, very humbley and to the point. I think we've might have a similar life.
This may be the best version of this song that I've ever heard.
The Ataris version tops it for me.
Wersja z 84r jest genialna, ale ta wersja jest po prostu rewelacyjna.Don już starszy więc tempo zmalało ale to właśnie jest rewelacyjne.Zrobił taka super balladę...Do przytulania.Oglądam to dzisiaj kiedy Don Henley obchodzi 75 urodziny...
IMHO I believe it is.
@@robinr22 ABSOLUTELY NO WAY!!!! THIS is the BEST version I've ever heard.

Back in the 80s I didn't speak English just understand few words of this liric, but the vibe and message it's straight to your hearth. . ☺️
Damn. This hit me like a rock. Totally didn't see it coming. That's what music can do people. Made me fuckin' weep.

Wow were did the time go ⚘
1984 I was 20 and starting college. Fell hard for a 29 year old who became my 1st. She had an apartment with a pool and I always picture her laying in the sun when I hear this song. Days gone by.....
Love this song. The only song I ever drove an extra round around the block for when it started playing on the radio when I was almost home.
It's one of those songs that takes you back to the one that got away and really hits in the feelings. Just about every human can relate to that feeling of loss and not wanting to let go

I hear you bro.
I LOVE THE LYRICS TO THIS SONG! It really makes you think of summer, youth, regret and missed chances and opportunities.
I feel depress now thanks lol
Yup. Every time I hear this song that’s exactly what I think of. Exactly....
Aka a real downer, nice!
I was going thru a divorce at the time that I didn't want so needless to say this song has played in my head over & over again ever since. Still does when I hear it, but I still love it.
Me it brings me back to South Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando, Disney World (where I once
drove a transportation van), waiting on tables and beer that was very, very cold.
This is timeless music. They just dont make it like that anymore.
Have you heard the ataris version of it btw?
So true took me back exactly where I wanted to be
So true, rap rap sux and music died about 30 years ago....

Don Henley is an extremely talented man, unfortunately since this performance we lost Glenn Frey and Tom Petty.
It’s hard to believe they’re gone.
True. True. But..we still have Don, lets be thankful for that
The official song of 2020. Nobody on the road, Nobody on the beach
This version is so much beautiful, I love it so! Thank you Don Henley
Don's got a thing about looking back. That explains everything. That's why I'm always tuned in to Mr. Henley. We share the same nostalgia.
Amen.
Hurts to listen to this. Those days were amazing.

Don Henley has had such a fantastic career! There’s not many singers out there that I would compare him with or to! He’s really in a class by himself! Just Fantastic!
This version was fukn beautiful!
Don Henley's taste in backup singers is fantastic!!
they looked like sisters...maybe his daughters?
Don Henley is just like God behind the microphone he's so amazingly talented, and this version is fantastic along with the original. Great performance by the band also.
They are enchanting.

I'm 51. I've seen and dished out death on foreign shores. I have seen things that would break most men. But my God, this song broke me. The tears are flowing like a rainstorm down my face as I write this. God I wish I could go back to the 80's...I would take any of you who wanted to go with me.
Don't regret.
What’s crazy is this song is about late 60’s nostalgia from the perspective of the 80’s.
@@kobold7763 I've heard so many different stories of what this song's actually about (a past relationship, The Eagles, baseball) but apparently it's not about anything specific, according to Don anyway.
I'd go with u brother.
I'm currently going through a Tom Petty faze, they come and go, and it led me here. This music will always be a comfort, I hope.
Just lost an old friend from HS (graduated in ‘86) cannot stop listening to this song and can’t stop thinking of him. This song is brilliant and Don is a genius and this song is helping me with my grief.
Why am I 20 years old and this song already makes me so nostalgic. I feel old. I can only imagine what it’s like looking back on a lifetime of memories when you’re 50. But it’ll be here before I know it. Time slow down please

Looking back is a blessing and a curse
1984. This thing was on the radio ALL the time. I was 11. It’s still on classic rock stations today. I’m 45. Saw him sing it live with the eagles in 95. Great song and this version is good too
Jeremy Fowler I was 11 when the Eagles released Hotel California. Still a fan to this day. I saw the Eagles at the Orange Bowl in Miami in 95 and have seen Don a couple of times as a solo artist.
When people ask why this song is my favourite of all time my answer is simple, even after listening to it thousands of times it still gives me goose bumps every single time
Haunting, beautiful, provocative, wonderful

Beautiful song. Sung at a slower pace allows total immersion in the beautiful lyrics and the rhythm dictated by the piano is spectacular.
Congratulations to Don Herley for this magnificent acoustic version.

"Out on the road today I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac" Lyrics don't get much better than that
neuer account It’s a very ironic statement, as the lifestyle of the typical person who is or would have been a Grateful Dead fan is a complete opposite of the middle/upper class person who would be your typical Cadillac owner. Completely different mindsets and outlooks on life.
Just an unbelievable rendition of that song. Beautiful. I wish he would release that same version as a single
This truly proves that class is class and always will be.
Best version of this tune. Beautiful, poetic, I go back to it often. Dropping the synth ‘80’s mix is just what this masterpiece needs. Hallelujah

Paul Heagen perfectly said!
Don Henley is my favorite artist, he has so many songs, solo and Eagles. I actually drove for like 12 hours between Orlando, FL to Memphis, TN listening to his solo tracks and Eagles tracks never repeating a song. Yes, I was averaging 90 mph but I successfully managed it with the assistance of an Escort.
The radar detector.
I love the reverence his band has for this living legend. Wonderful.
He is a perfectionist and demands it in everyone.....and this is the result....perfection.
