Then again "What's Happening Now" lasted about as long as the original "What's Happening". Somebody must have been watching it (not me though). Godfather II was great (not III -- that was putrid); Superman 2 was better than the first Superman (the Christopher Reeve days), and of course "Break 2: Electric Boogaloo" is all I ever saw on TV and to this day have no idea what the original was. The one that wipes out the theory is Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan -- that saved the entire Star Trek universe after that catastrophic "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". Yet to be equaled after umpteen movies and half dozen TV series.

Newman was lonely and had an inferiority complex. He fought back by being a diabolical and scheming character who wanted to see Jerry suffer failure. Newman actually looked up to Jerry because Jerry had success and Newman resented Jerry because Jerry simply did not like nor trust Newman. This 'rub' is what made their relationship on the show so entertaining.
Newman actually developed an air of superiority out of his own insecurity. He became a nemesis of sorts to Jerry. Like a funny Lex Luther. Brilliant really! And it worked great.

I heard before one of the actors (perhaps Seinfeld himself) saying that the Newman character was supposed to be the landlord's son, and that he reported to his father every little thing that goes on in the building, which is why people generally disliked him. This idea may have been changed later, but it is the basis for having a character on the show that was so disliked by Seinfeld.

Before Newman is ever seen, he’s referred to as Kramer’s friend who will jump off the roof, but it’s Larry David’s voice. Once Newman is cast and shown, they overdubbed that from early in with Wayne so it’s consistent in reruns. Also, Newman was originally going to be related to the building super and the building snitch, and Newman first episode he tells Martin that Jerry kissed his girlfriend while he was in a coma, so that would set up Jerry v Newman.

That was the best part of the whole series Kramer and Newman were my favorite characters and the episodes focusing on their friendship were the best that's why bottle deposits is my favorite episode but I loved Jerry and Newmans dislike for each other that was the best scenes in the show Jerry would open the door
    Hello Jerry
    Hello Newman 👍

My favorite is Kramer and Newman battling it out in the Subway at a game of Risk for world domination played by two guys who can barely run their own lives.

Krammer, Castanza, and Elaine made this show successful. Anybody could've played the straight guy (Jerry), although I will say that Jerry is a great writer and the brains behind the show... and Larry David of course.

The only reason the show was any good was because of the other actors. I might be in the minority here, but I find Seinfeld overly smug and honestly not funny at all.

i was a in a hotel and Seinfeld came out screaming about his scrambled eggs like a child. I didn't even know who he was at the time. Terrible human being, he berated them and demanded they look him up and see what success looks like. I hated this man since that day with a passion.
