Hi, Ken. Glad you enjoyed these tricks. The timeline is more useful than most people realize. Definitely take full advantage of its capabilities. Cheers, Kevin :)
Hi kevin I’m coming and it’s maybe long time to watch your channel this video is very useful especially i didn’t know selection grouping by timelines before but thanks to you I can save my time Thanks for your continuous uploading your tips and also congraturate you have 10k subscribers. take care
Thanks, MAKER HOME! I really appreciate your support and I'm happy to see you're back at it. Glad you found the grouping to be a helpful trick...I use it all the time. Keep learning! Cheers, Kevin :)
Hey Kevin, I've been a subscriber and supporter of this channel for quite some time. However, I never came across this video. You provided 2 specific tips which greatly changed how I use Fusion. Thank you so much.
Glad to hear that, Athan! I've been hesitant to create more tips and tricks based videos because they never perform as well... So I've been trying to add tips into the middle/ends of videos. Thanks for all your support and the coffee 😎
@@ProductDesignOnline It's a shame, because it's stuff you need to know but you just don't know it. So, oftentimes, people might be looking for something specific without realizing there's something way more important that they're missing. Tip #2 definitely helps prevent you from creating sketches tied to the wrong component. I can't even count the number of times I've arrived 20-30 steps into a model before realizing a feature was associated to the wrong component. Enjoy the coffee. I hope your channel grows or Autodesk hires you to help produce official tutorials for them. Either one would make me happy.
This is the first in-depth video found explaining the timeline, excellent job! On a possibly a crazy note; does your voice have a frequency enhancement keep hearing slight changes between your normal voice and Darth Vader voice?
I had a frog in my throat when I recorded. I think i stopped 4 or 5 times to cough.. and I edited those out so you're probably hearing my voice change because of that 😂😂😂
Excellent info, thanks. When you mention sketch out design first it got me thinking about how important the order is when developing your model. Do you have some intuitions to share on how to approach that matter.? For example large attributes first, work to details last. Or perhaps, fillets always last. And another example - everything that can be a compenents should be a component in general. Thinking of that nature. Thanks.
Hi, great Video, I was just working with spline curves and projections. I needed to go back and and change the sketches which had a number of bodies and bolean operations depending on it. Unfortunately they did not made it “current feature” and did not update as I know from other CAD programms. Do you have any ideas on how to achieve this?
Hi Kevin, I'm almost finished with my model, but I need to edit a sketch in the timeline. But I can't get to it, it's too far to the right, maybe try the selection set to shorten it? I don't think grouping would help. Thanks,
Hi Ron. Can you elaborate on what you mean by not being able to get to it? If your timeline stretches all the way across the screen then you should be able to scroll over to the right (or left if you've already scrolled right)
@@ProductDesignOnline I got it figured out, was not getting out of the sketch to move the timeline. I do have another question though. I put my tabs on the wrong side of my USB plate. Is there a way to swap sides or to flip them without deleting them and having to redraw the sketches? Or could I flip my openings on the plate, which would work. Thank you for your quick replies. It has helped me so much.
@@ronhutchinson3479 Hi Ron. The answer is somewhat dependent on how the tabs were created. If they're components or separate bodies then you can try to select them in the Browser and use the "Move/Copy" command to move them to the other side. If they're a single body then you can edit the sketch and try to move the sketch (or parts of it) over with the move command. A less ideal way would be to use the mirror command to mirror them to the other side...then press pull or extrude the original side to fill the void.
Hi Kevin, I like your videos of fusion 360 very much. I learned much of them. At this moment I do have a big problem. When I save a design and close it, after opening I don't have a time line anymore. I do get only a bleu square in the left bottom corner. What do I do wrong, I already renewed the program, download the newest version, but the problem still exists. Can you help me? please info. Kind regards, Henk Schipper
Hi Henk. Sorry to hear you're having that issue. Unfortunately, that is the first I've heard of that sort of issue. It would be best to post on the official Autodesk forum or reach out to Autodesk support directly. It sounds like it's some sort of bug and could be related to a cash file or something specific to your account. Wish I could do more to help but they will have to look into your unique account! Cheers!
It is available on the Personal Use license. However, the timeline may have dependencies that restrict you from moving it (i.e. a feature is tied to a construction plane, etc). Sometimes, you'll have to shift-click and select all related features and drag them together.
Hi I have a finished model of a shoe shelf, which the customer wants to change a little in height between shelf plates, how can I most easily change height without redrawing all the parts involved. all parts are components. Can I use the timeline and go back to and redraw at height?
Do you recall what feature you use to create the thickness? You should be able to edit the feature - for example, the Extrude feature - and then change the thickness at any time :)
For the Tips #2, it doesn't isolated with all those related actioned items in timeline for the feature I marked as activated component in my case. It has nothing changes to the timeline when it marked as activated. Would it be any specifc requirement or contrain to be followed for this feature? Would it be too long my timeline is? My activated component is NOT located on the 1st tree level in browser window as yours and I am using Fusion 360 2.0.16985 arm64 (Native) with my Macbook Pro M1 Max in MacOS 13.5.1 btw.
Great question, Arpad! First, I'd suggest selecting it via the Fusion 360 browser on the lefthand side. If it's not available there then you'll want to use the "selection filters" to select it. Go to the select dropdown list > selection filters > uncheck any of them that aren't related to sketches. Then you can use a selection window (keyboard shortcut number 1 key) to select the sketch geometry. Cheers, Kevin :)
@@ProductDesignOnline Honesty anything, I tried learning fusion a few year ago and until I saw your videos I was able to improve. How to CNC with fusion and maybe tolerances would be good subjects. Thanks!
You first have to activate your top-level component ( the assembly). Then, the timeline marker must be placed all the way at the end (all the way to the right). These are both required because parametric designs reference everything that came before it. You'll be able to move items left and right only if they don't reference something before it.
Hi Kevin, I have a question about Color Component Swatch. In my browser my component is pink but my component is yellow. Also my timeline color is yellow. I can't get my component or timeline to be pink, just need them the same Thanks, Ron
Hi, Ron. The colors correspond to each component. The top-level component will be pink and any other components within the main file will have their own respective colors. Cheers, Kevin :)
Check that your "handle" component is active (or whatever component you're testing it with). It may also be a setting. Go to Username > preferences > Design > Make sure "Show Ghosted Result body" is turned on.
@@ProductDesignOnline I check/activate the handle and "Show Ghosted Result" is checked too but no timeline seperation/isolation. I see you use a Mac... is this feature only on Mac? I use Windows
Make sure your timeline marker is all the way at the end (all the way to the right) and that your top level component (assembly/file name) is active in the Fusion 360 Browser.
You can't drag them past another feature that references them, e.g. it won't let you drag a fillet back to before the object it is applied to is created. This limitation can appliy to dragging features forwards too.
@@ProductDesignOnline Yeah, I know, but then often some of the other things done afterwards don't work anymore and I get errors. There are dependencies and I'm always stuck in that... I don't know what to keep in mind doing that.
If you get errors in the timeline you'll want to try to resolve them one by one from left to right. If you're getting errors from sketch planes missing or being moved then you can redefine them as I demo in this tutorial - th-cam.com/video/yzKNCF9xI-c/w-d-xo.html Other errors can be resolved by editing the feature or by dragging the feature left or right in the timeline (adjusting the position of order). Please let me know if you have other specific error types and I can help with a more definitive answer. Cheers, Kevin :)
