The fact that Celia can’t have a baby and had so many miscarriages is so heartbreaking, she deserves a child more than Hilly does
YES
Thats how it often goes. Luckily, there are still things like adoption and foster care
Read the book to find out more about her story
Celia deserves be a mom than
Hilly and Elizabeth.
I wonder if it might be because she kept drinking alcohol even while pregnant@@realglutenfree
While Minnie did leave Leroy, it left out why:
Hillys husband got him fired over the book, and he locked her in the bathroom and threatened to burn the house down with her in it.
She escaped, took the kids and made a run for the nearest gas station.
She went to the country to live with her sister.
Woooooow that would have made it even that much more intense
I was really hoping Minnie and the kids would move in with Celia. It's possibly foreshadowed earlier in the film - Minnie points out that Celia has a lot of space in the house to fill - and if Celia can't have kids, then perhaps taking in Minnie's family is a good solution. But I guess that's an unrealistic situation in the south in the 1960s, even for such a progressive couple as Celia and Johnny.
@@rhysepoosoh hell no, it wouldn't have worked.
@@Yassmiinn.I live in the south, a lot of properties had living quarters for “the help”. And that is a plantation property Celia and Johnny are supposed to be on in the film, it wouldn’t have been that far-fetched. They also don’t seem to give a 💩. Unless it’s to Hilly 😂
Aaaaaaand apparently this was actually a deleted scene. So well done, I'm now pissed they didn't leave it in!
This is why I don't mess with Miss Octavia Spencer. When she's here to act, honey, she's here to ACT.
She’s takin the Oscar and The PIE too
@@MoviesinDepth😂
The fact most of the women in this cast (minus Bryce Dallas sadly) all have Oscar’s is so mind blowing to me like this cast is chefs kiss
Biiiiiig chefs kiss
Bryce should’ve. 😢 Either for this or Firefly. She played excellent in both!
A top tier cast. ❤
BRYCE DESERVES A OSCAR
For the second half of the book, Minnie is pregnant.
This is relevant because they mention that her husband never hits her when she's pregnant.
Also: towards the end, she has Sugar start working for Celia so she can take over when Minnie has to go on maternity leave.
That makes it even that much more brutal
We need a HIDDEN FIGURES REACTION!!!! That movie is hilarious, incredible, moving, and based on a true story!
Skeeters real name is Eugenia.
The nickname stuck when she was born, and she was considered an ugly baby, and her brother said, "That's no baby, its a skeeter!"
That is amaaaaazing
Heres the bitter truth about the toilet prank:
Hilly wound up selling them all to people who wanted to get a separate bathroom for their help, for a lower price. So basically the prank not only backfired, it had the exact opposite effect.
Which Hilly made a point to tell Skeeter in front of everyone at the benefit.
Perfect KARMA
I only found out through the comments Minnie's ending was a bit different (or at least there was more to it than the movie showed).
I've never read the book but I adore the movie. I always felt the movie implied Minnie and her kids were taken in by Celia and her husband (since earlier in the movie Celia mentioned something about the big dining table and bedrooms she'd never fill and at the end Minnie comes to a set table that Celia had prepared for her).
It gave me that lovely warm idea of Minnie still working there but her kids living there too in order to fill those bedrooms and give Celia the joy of having kids around despite not being able to have any of her own.
At least this was how I always imagined it hahaha.
In the book Rachel, the daughter or the maid Skeeter grewup with, had a different story. She was white passing (a past relative,I don't remove who,was white) so her mother had to give her away because it would have been to difficult to explain or she could have been in teouble for having a "white" chikd with her and also to five her a better life. They had reunited and when Rachel showed up she acted friendly to the club members and wanted to join.
Skeeter also didn't know she had a daughter so she was shocked when she found out. Skeeter was devastated that the woman that was another mother figure to her was fired and later got sicker (since she had moved to go live with Racgel but she couldn't stend the change in climate) and died and she didn't know that,no one told her and she didn't know where she was even buried.
Constantine.
Skeeter and Stuart got waaaaaaaay more serious in the book.
She told him about the book the day before it hit the shelves, and Stuart was even planning on proposing!
She goes to the benefit by herself, and shes treated like a complete pariah.
Really??? I’m so happy they took him out of the story
NO they didn't lol.
He did propose, but she said she couldn't accept it before she came clean, then he took his ring back and that was that.
I don't think their relationship was THAT serious. He was still hung up on his ex Patricia
Almost all the main actresses in this movie have won an Oscar. Thats insane! 😳
The reason that Minnie Didn’t like Celia touching and hugging her and giving her Coke was because it was basically illegal to touch Fair skinned people back in the back and you could get killed or seriously harmed by doing so
Wait, really? Hmm, I always assumed it was because Minnie wasn't used to being hugged, considering every other maid/parent work relationship wasn't as pure as Celia and Minnie's.
Well if we look at how the other Maids interact with the their women. None of them touch them or hug them. And when Minnie teaches Sugar the rules of being a maid, she tells them that when they prepare the Tea she HAS to place it in front of the family member, their hands. CANNOT touch. Have a separate utensil and plates for everything. So when Celia hugged her she didn’t know what to do out of fear and confusion.
Celia isn't nice because she's ignorant. It's showing how different things are outside of Jackson and that Jackson is behind the times. Celia grew up in a different city so wasn't influenced by the girls in Jackson.
Well, I wouldn’t say ignorant is the right word. But I do think that she’s an idealist, with the belief that because you’re nice to people if they’ll be nice back to you.
Celia grew up poor in a trailer, so she knows first hand what working hard and being treated like shit is like, this gives her empathy for the maids because she herself was once in their position.
Also, she's just naturally very nice and bubbly and treats everyone with kindness even when they don't deserve it like Hilly.
Things you may not notice
1. Hilly have babies and make pressure for everyone else to do the same, which leads to Elizabeth, just a girl and not ready for motherhood, a mother with baby blues.
2. Hilly's bathroom initiative put unnecessary economic strains to a lot of white families, and it's represented by Elizabeth's arguments with her husband. It doesn't affect her because she's wealthy. But middle class family like Elizabeth is much more affected.
3. Hilly is a GOOD friend (protect Skeeter from Jolene's back-handed comments, side with her against her mother's degrading words, believing in her and hit her up with Stuart), but a BAD person and I'm glad Skeeter didn't dismiss Hilly's bs just because she's been kind to her.
Big thing with Abileen and Mae Mobley that was left out:
Abileen would play games with her to teach her life lessons.
Example: pretend to sit at a counter, and no matter what, you can't move. This was sometimes played with her brother, so he'd sit and shed throw stuff at him, or vice versa. But the objective is the same: no matter what's said or done to you, you can't move.
Another thing to note is that Mae Mobley was also starting school in the book, and she had a seriously racist teacher.
The whole thing came to a head when her dad caught her playing the above game, and angrily demanded she tell him who taught her the game.
And she said it was her teacher!
🤯🤯🤯
This movie forever ruined my enjoyment of chocolate pie.....!😂
In case you're wondering why Celia Foote kept losing her babies, it's actually a pretty easy to fix problem. Her cervix is too thin, so when the fetus reaches a certain weight, it just falls out. But all the doctor has to do is sew it up once pregnancy is confirmed, and remove the stitches at 36 weeks. I'm a nurse, so wanting to cure even fictional characters is an occupational hazard.
Chocolate pie will never be the same again…
The book implies Celia's miscarriage issue was stress-related, she can't deal well with life in Jackson and all that is expected from her having married the richest man in town, Hilly and Elizabeth's constant abuse and having a terrible diet making it even worse, in the end having Minnie (And later Sugar) work for her and be her friends gives her a respite from all the tension and she eventually gives birth to many healthy children.
As to whats was on her lip- its a cold sore, a virus sometimes spread by kissing or touching/using used utensils, door knobs and stuff.
Thus hinting at how it came to be 👀
PFFF EVEN BETTER
Utensils?
this was partly filmed 10 min from where i live, which is a VERY rare occurrence😂
10:16 That was Abileens spiel in the book. No, i dont know why they changed it.
I would have loved it either way
I’m not just commenting cause Welchy said if we don’t we have bad breath…… but I really enjoyed this reaction!! Shout out to SWEETIEEEE for recommending it!😂🙌🏻🙌🏻
You are a LEGEND!!
I loved the "Sweetie!!!!!" screams😂❤
You should watch the secret life of bees! It's got dakota fanning, queen latifah, alicia keys, etc. And vision from avengers! The story is also a tearjerker
Leslie Jordan was a gem taken from us too soon.
Yesss absolutely
The best thing about the revenge against Hilly is that Minnie made sure her mother never ate the pie.
There's a beautiful, I mean beautiful photo of Cicely Tyson in the portrait museum in DC.
That’s amazing!
I'm watching on Christmas Eve, not Thanksgiving, but close enough.
It was so fun to watch the editing process on this! So great to watch the finished project!
Abileen takes over as the next Miss Myrna. Skeeter hands it over before leaving for New York.
AMAZING
IM DYING! I am SO HAPPY to see you reacting to this movie ❤️❤️
Thank you for watching!!
Loved your reaction and comment, it’s crazy to me that I was actually about to be born in the time period of this movie. I can’t imagine facing that kind of racism every day.
MID's wife, probably: i'm tired of pie so i'm gonna make him watch the help
Should definitely check out the movie Hidden Figures.
I haven’t seen that one yet!
@@MoviesinDepth You haven't seen HIDDEN FIGURES?!?!
@@MoviesinDepth
Hidden Figures is very similar, except the maids have PhDs in mathematics. Not kidding. Same period, too : early 1960s. And you get to go into space with John Glenn. That part is scary, even though you know he makes it back okay, since he only died recently.
Definitely all of Octavia Spencer’s Oscar-nominated performances! The Help, Hidden Figures and The Shape of Water.
Hilly had a cold sore from the stress, a lot of the stuff going on in this story is linked directly to stress, like Skeeter's mom's illness or Celia's miscarriages.
One of my favorite white savior movies😒😂
“That flag was back then” you mean 2019??
Jk, for those who don’t know, while the confederate flag is a part of it, the flag in the beginning of the movie is the old Mississippi flag. It was voted to be changed only in 2020, but the appearance of the flag isn’t supposed to just be a mention of the confederacy but to show where the movie takes place. At the time the movie was shot, it was still flying boldly on the state capital.
You're going to love the way she got revenge. this Revenge it's well best served in a pie.😂 I did enjoy that Revenge
Revenge is best served WARM in this movie 😂
I actually really like Celia as a character
Same!!
She is a cinnamon roll
You make it sound as if that's an unpopular opinion.....
@@Rash23215 That wasn’t what I was going for at all.
"Why is this a good thanksgiving movie?"
"Because you had chocolate pie during thanksgiving dinner?"
That’s not a chicken salad 😂
Wait. You live in Kentucky? I do too. Born in Lexington. Moved away as a kid to Georgia. And moved back to Kentucky in 2014.
Go wildcats!
This movie makes me realize that the DMV lady Sheldon talked to in The Big Bang Theory was going easy on him. She could've given him a pie made of shit, but instead chose to simply tell him she doesn't give a damn.
If only I had seen any big bang theory lmao
Oh yeah, Sheldon versus Lisa Simpson. Clash of the Titans. "SECURITY!" 😂
Both Octavia Spencer and Jim Parsons were in Hidden Figures as well!
Amazing
20:05 why do I look away and come back to information like this 😂
Lmaoooo
I LOVE THIS BOOK/MOVIE SO MUCH!!!! I’m so glad you watched it
Thank you for watching!!
@@MoviesinDepth I can’t wait to see if you so any more movies your wife suggest
I recently recommended Arcane to my mom. You're lucky I wasn't drinking anything at that moment. You know why? Because she said:
1. She's not into "kids cartoons" she called it
2. She also thought it was Japanese anime
I love Arcane!! Jinx is life
If you haven't, I must recommend you start watching The Bear. My dad's into cooking programs, so he introduced me to it. Not really into cooking programs myself, but I loved it. Can't wait for the 3rd season.
I really want to watch that!
Holly’s actress nailed it because hated her so much.
The only negative to this movie I've gained over time is how 'white savior' centric it is. Like it focuses more on how painful it is for her to have lost her nanny and her pain, instead of the help's side of things. Like this movie could've basically removed the whole daughter and her mother thing, and we could see it all from the perspective of the help + just her meeting with the journalist to write the book and it would've been just as good. Celia is as good as a 'white savior' I needed. She was good. Like them focusing on how hurt the mom was for having to fire the nanny, and her guilt. Boohoo. Don't care about how much your internalized racism is hurting you... Emma Stone is the downside of this movie, and is why several of these actresses regret making the movie, kind of. It's designed for us to do just that, clap at Celia and Emma's stuff like, "Yeah! That's how it's done!!"
100%
A long time ago, when I learned about how we all die, that was not a good day for me. I went through depression, I couldn't eat, I couldn't enjoy and I wasn't in the mood for anything. Of course, I recovered soon after it. But man, I wish Puss in Boots: The Last Wish had been released at that time. Would've healed my depression immediately.
Baby blues = postpartum depression.
… so true
You should check out Wolfwalkers. It's beautiful!
Haven’t seen it!
Stop calling SWWAATTTIIEEEEE and just let your emotions roll man! Lol

When Beyond the Spider-Verse will be finally announced, allow me to take a radical and rather controversial decision: outside of the teaser, I will NOT watch any other trailer! The way they bombarded us with trailers before nearly ruined my experience watching Across the Spider-Verse.
Will you watch Wish
Possibly! 🫡

I never had an issue with the flag, all flags are part of history, to me it's just a flag, but I love this movie, it's one of my favorite movies to watch.
You’re one of them ew
If your looking for a REALLY GOOD Thanksgiving movie, I recommend "Pieces Of April". It stars Katie Holmes and its SO UNDERRATED. Without spoiling too much it is a bit sad. But I'm sure would make a WONDERFUL reaction. But if not, please check it out on your own time. :)
Keep up the good work. :)
Celias husband finds out about Minnie a LOT sooner in the book.
And he sincerely could not have cared less that Minnie was there. He just wanted Celia to be happy with him.
Celia literally had her keeping up the ruse even when he knew, and she knew he knew.
I just want them to ride off into the sunset and have a wonderful life together
It's a book!? I gotta go buy it!
I haven’t read the book but I’d like to think that Minnie and her family moved in with them and they had
The family they always wanted

Emma can do no WRONG
"My wife said this would be a great Thanksgiving movie. SWEETIE!" 🤣 min 14:37
lmaooo all the sweetie parts killed me lol
Miss Hilly's mom really is a legend as that is none other than Sissy Spacek.
This channel needs more Sissy, come to think of it….
A QUEEN
the person assassinated was Medgar Evers, a civil and voting rights activist from Mississippi. he was shot in his own driveway
Thank you. I thought it was, but I was too lazy to look it up.
Oh really? I always thought it was MLK Jr. Now I feel bad for assuming.
It was awful. He was an amazing civil rights leader, and really was shot in front of his children by a horrible racist psycho 😢😢😢
We also def need a reaction to The Secret Life of Bees! Octavia Spencer was in that too and it’s incredible.
The scenes with the little girl break my heart everytime :'(
20:00. In case anyone is curious, $600 in 1963 (when this movie takes place) would be about $6,100 in 2024, which means the 13 maids who got about $46 each then would be about $470 each in 2024.
you were saying how much you love the mom. i love the mom too she's the best
You’re such a joker I was scared to watch this reaction but I really enjoyed it. Good job 👏🏾
When you screamed out Sweetie i immediately thought of Kim Zolsciak
95 cents an hour for 1962 comes out to $9.59/hour here in 2023. How frigging awful. And the fact that Bryce Dallas Howard (Ron's daughter) plays an ugly bigot so well that I believe a lot of people forget she's an ACTRESS playing a role, this is not her in real life. But Octavia deserved the Oscar (as well as Viola). The scene where Cecilia buries the remains of her third miscarriage as a tree just rips my heart out every time!
Inflation would be just over $1,800 a month, or about $21,000 a year
Constantine is played by the late Cicely Tyson.
You may know her better as Sipsey in Fried Green Tomatoes
Or Annalise Keatings mother in How to Get Away With Murder
Ohh I think miss what’s her face the one who fired Minnie gets her comeuppance. She so gullible. And her mothers reaction is comedic gold!!! Do not condone though. Not a nice thing to do.
R. I. P. Leslie Jordan
Yessss
Plz can u do krampus and Madea's big happy family
This was one of the most perfect book to movie adaptations I've ever seen. It was so well done.
0:27 Just trust the wife 😂
The wife new what she was doing
If she was making 95 cents an hour during the 1950s then, in 2024, she'd be making anything between $12 to $13/hr and for the amount of work they do, it isn't nearly enough.
I recomend you watching hidden figures, its The help but more nearby to 2000
And Octavia is there too
Actually, this will surprise you:
Hilly is actually a wonderful mother. They make it a point to say so in the book several times.
That would have been an interesting layer to add to the movie!
Hmmm. I wonder if you can still be a 100% wonderful mother while still teaching them racism and hatred though? But she cares for them, which I guess is the bare minimum, but good.
I love your videos
help the plot twist of minny putting poop in hillys pie was insane
