I love this! Maybe make a hook or slot to keep it from jumping out when using full power and then release it.
Just a mad man! Without a life vest, down the mighty Zambezi river!
That works surprisingly well. Be interesting finding the right combo of power and battery life. I suppose you could always make your own battery, you're a pretty sharp guy
I have a few ideas , also the comments help inspire a lot !
Need a pedals-to-flexible shaft setup for the next grinder gearbox you find, heh heh. Or hook the big solar battery up to an old drill/two drills geared together, etc...
Fun boot through the weeds!
I just saw a 40v grinder for sale wondering how that would go!
@@DktheWelder It'd rip! Would you miss the variable speed though?
Torque test channel recently made a power pack backpack that can take x4 batteries, and then purchased battery adapters to adapt the DC positive and negative to the drill. They found that the Harbor Freight 12ah 20v batteries were the best bang for the buck, $130 USD a piece.
Ok I might watch that thanks
nice job .... i also did this 15 years ago , i used a 7v , 2 speed drill + a 100AH battery and a whipper snipper shaft and bolted on a propeller . used it with my large canoe with 2 teenages and me in it .
worked perfect for years until the kids dropped it in the water , got it working again and still have it .
i suggest use a old drill as they have all METAL GEARS .😀
Nice one! Surprised how well it worked. I think a canoe would work well being a displacement hull
@@DktheWeldermy black and decker firestorm pushes my 14ft half to displacement tender OK.
I have some big 775, 885, power tool sized motors, but radiator fan motors are a better option. More torque, lower speed.
Run good with decent power on 24V, instead of 12V
Works really good.
Your use of Hammerrite I thought put the touch of perfection on the drill bracket, well done, you are the doctor of perfection!
Thanks!
Never a dull moment lol
If you water cooled the drill motor it sure would help.
That would definitely help 👍
That is great. Ideal for fishing and hunting where you aren't going to far or to cross rivers. I'm just making a surface drive that packs down into small parts with my inflatable, it all fits east in the back of the truck.
That is great , the whole thing being able to carry and fit in the truck lets you access some cool places
Awesome.
Problem will be rpm vs power however you could try something like the Makita DDA460z high torque drill with good heat dissipation
Absolutely awesome 👏
You are a champion, love your work mate 👍
I personally have the Makita stuff and my 18v brushless drill is nice and powerful, I use it to drill 18mm holes through 10 and 12mm steel plate on-site 😂 probs not supposed to but it’s held up for 4 years so far and no sign of any probs, my wrists don’t like it though.
Thanks for the video, loved it.
Cheers 🍻
Aussie Boat Guy 😎
Yes that drill has had 3 years of that! I have come pretty close to breaking my wrist with it. I can’t believe how far I got on 2 worn out batteries!
Maybe a mixer drill, would be made to work longer so no overheating
DEWALT DCB615 + DCD470 would be a good combo. A little pricy though, at that cost you could just get an electric ice auger.
Vote one on the auger
I’ve never seen an ice auger in New Zealand. I’m wondering if there is a limit to battery drills or people will break the wrists?
I like it .get two car Batts with inverter 12v too 240 v and put electric drill and make a prop like the ones in tai Land ,they real extended .teeth and turbos got one in sent too USA.
motor + controller from a electric lawnmower would be worth a go
Yes I have an ego 56v lawnmower but I don’t think the wife will let me take it apart!
I've just bought a Makita 2x18v auger/drill. I used it on a boat trailer winch to pull a new mini track car up a tilt trailer with the handbrake on. No problems halfway up i started again and it broke the 1/4 to 1/2 socket adapter. POWER!
How about a 2x18v brush cutter/hedge trimmer powerhead. Its half built all ready.
I personally think the makita stuff is best. A powerful weed electric weed eater would work well I think👍
Low gear on the drill might help through the weeds
Cool
Ohh yeah.
Did a De Walt 18 volt drive through a Seagull unit.
The De Walt are so torquey.
I have an electric seagull project coming soon👍
Check out the Dewalt 60V DCH773Y2...BUT, a much better solution would be the Makita LXT 36V string trimmer, with 2 x 6Ah 18V batteries it has serious power and already has the long tail part! (might need gearing down for your application, not sure). Trimmer far less likely to overheat (if geared correctly) as it is designed for continuous operation at high revs.
Yeah I think that would work well would need to gear it down though ideally 3000 to 4000 rpm
Maybe try a drill with a wire/cord and power it with a Generator. Like a Hybrid.
Yeah so it always has power but still easy to handle 👍
Hilti, Makita, Milwaukee.
I think the technically most powerful battery drill would be a regular handheld drill that plugs into the wall but you plug it into one of those battery banks things that have sponsored a million different youtubers. You might even be able to get a sponsorship from one of them and it'd make for an interesting video :D
Haha I have been sponsored on of those big ecoflow units and I have a powerful hand drill so no excuses really!
Certainly more thrust than my cheap 12v trolling motor.
It worked so well and the motors in those drills are tiny !
Could hit up tools and stuff to borrow a fourty volt makita
we really need to see more on this, really keen to see what you come up with mate. I wonder if a heavier hammer drill would provide more torque?
I think so, it felt like it had enough torque but could use more rpm but I could put on a bigger prop and try a hammer drill
you gotta do a dirbike engine boat some how man those race bike engines provide allot of hp and with the right hull an dprop will definitely get you up on plane
They are expensive, but would be super fast I think it would be too much for that little boat👍
you canfind cheapasones of old recked motorbikes@@DktheWelder
Have a plug in one in your inverter
Yes 👍
I know that some people in the DIY efoil world are using LIDL drill batteries to power the efoil (not a drill motor).
However. The LIDL batteries (I believe they are for a Parkside drill X20V 8AH), are a good value for the money.
Maybe you should look at this too?
I will thanks for the advice! I also think a longtail setup would work well for a hydrofoil setup as the there would be less drag
I do not think that this will work.
You want then power "pushing" as low as possible. With your setup, the pushing force will be way above, and force it to pitch down.
@@jetboard I know what you mean but I think you could counter balance it
@@DktheWelder I eFOil too, and the balance is very critical.
Counter balancing will only work if you keep the speed constant! As soon as you throttle up / down, make a turn or if you breach with the wing (tip), you will "crash".
It might work if you make adjustments with the stabilizer, but this will need to be very direct (maybe even before you change pitch!)
Pretty bloody cool alright 👍. Wouldn't have thought that a drill would go so far. I have a 36 volt hitoki drill . Pretty shore that would break your wrist . 😅😅
I think on the drill they run parallel so it only uses 18v otherwise people would break their wrists. The way I had it mounted there was no torque on my wrists which was great
makita makes 40v drills
mixer drill with your battery bank if its got surge protection so no deaths lol
That is a good idea I have a powerful old hitachi drill that could work!
looked like a lot of fun, that is until I thought, do you have any kind of croc problem? or is it to cold for them? I know you can get 36v hand drills but I am not sure if you can get them where you are, if not a 12v starting motor , options are endless,
No crocs in New Zealand 👍 or snakes or anything dangerous really
@@DktheWelder OH, I would not say nothing dangerous, my mate Pete was cooling his feet off in a small creek, only about six inches deep, then from out of nowhere a guy comes flying down the stream in a tin bath doing about sixty, and cuts his toes off with his prop, no apologies or anything, Pete said he must of been out of his head as he was talking to himself or he was seeing invisible people, poor bloke, so be careful out there you never know what can happen, lol
Makita do a 40volt drill.
I have seen that but apparently on the drill they run in parallel so only do 18-20v
@@DktheWelder Right, didnt know that. Bet your lil Alloy creation would absolutely fly with 40volts behind it tho😁
How far did you end up going?
About a kilometre, but it was hard going chopping weeds!
"Which is the most powerful battery drill"
Honestly I think you might be better off using a big Milwaukee rattle gun and taking the hammer function out, or one of those makita/dewalt high voltage drills
I have a big makita rattle gun maybe too slow though. One of those big concrete drills could work 👍
@@DktheWelder yeah actually, that'd probably be easier because they already have a better chuck arrangement don't they?
Being totally ignorant on the subject I have ask. Is that really New Zealand's largest river or is that a tongue in cheek comment? Some years back I sold a Harley VRSCA (first model) to a fellow from New Zealand. He flew over to the States to personally transport his bike to the shipper. In conversation he mentioned a well known river cutting across his property, and he invited me to visit and fish someday. I got the impression it was a bit more substantial than the stream you guys play in.
I’m joking, there are a lot of rivers in New Zealand the Hamilton jet unit like in a JetSki was invented in New Zealand for the rocky shallow rivers down south
