I've been looking on and off for some time for class 72xx steps to replace one I stupidly damaged. Thanks to you I now know where to get them. Great video, most informative. 😁👍
Had a nice time on the Swanage railway myself a few years back, another tick on the bucket list! Great to show that when things get broken or is missing there is usually a way to rectify it.
Hey Tris... this was another fantastic restoration video... really informative and useful supplier names... and I particularly loved the mix with preserved railway footage and the beautiful English countryside... fantastic!... thankyou. J
Hi Tris You made a great job on repairing the loco and the end result was excellent. Weathering is something I want to do more of and I like what you did . Cheers Kev
The music didn’t bother me but I know from other videos that some people like it and some don’t . But as the saying goes you can’t please everyone😀 Cheers Kev
A brilliant little locomotive that will probably work on your layout for many years. I sincerely hope so!! To me, some of the nicest locomotives are weathered like that gorgeous little 2-8-2!!
Lovely to see your videos at the Swanage Railway!! I’ve got several of their locomotives. Mine are a Bulleid West Country Class, a BR Standard 4 Tank, an Adams Radial and a Beattie Well Tank.
Hi Tris, Great job on the loco, nice level of weathering, & impressive at the head of that freight train. Loved your visit to Swanage. Thanks again and look forward to the next one. Cheers!
Hi Tris. Thank you for another great video. I watched your live stream one yesterday that was very informative too, I missed it on the day. Slowly working on my Lego railway in my railway room. Nice to see the swanage railway too. Take care and thank you again regards Jaeson
Nice video Tris. Love watching these loco restoration/fix up videos. Ashame about the missing parts but still it looks great once you added the missing parts and weathered it. Great shots of the Swanage railway.- Nicholas.
Hey Tris, I have just finished working a 13 day stint at work and only got one day off this week, so I settled down for a few minutes to view your video. How frustrating for you to open the box and find bits missing but the uplifting part of it is to see you not only fix but improve the model. A great job and well done and a wonderful addition to your fleet. Hope to catch a live stream soon. Take care and stay safe :) :) :)
Hey Tris, another great job on restoring and even improving the 72xx class! I have to get one for my mainline freight moving forward! Such a big tank locomotive! Really enjoying these mixed videos of yours and the work that your doing, quite inspiring! Look forward to the next one. :)
Hi Tris, another great watch and well executed repair on the loco. I have visited the Swanage railway many times over the years and it is one of my favourite lines I must admit.. Stay safe and well, all the best, Chris
Hi Tris, It’s a shame you never spotted the missing parts beforehand but you made a great job at fixing it so all has turned out well. It’s a nice looking locomotive and runs well by the looks of things. Great shots of the heritage railway, cheers Rob.
Thanks Rob! I think maybe I’ll look for locos with Problems if I can get them for a better price as it was very satisfying to build the loco up and make it nice
Hello Chris, love your 72XX.,great locomotive. Sorry to find out it had no rear buffers, you would think that people who sell locomotives would be more honest as a prospective customer would probably come back and purchase maybe another locomotive if the locomotive was complete with all it's pieces it should have. Anyway you rectified the faults and did an amazing job and now your 72XX looks amazing. Well done sir.👍. A great video and a great channel as always. 🚂🙂
hi Tris , I really enjoy your videos, I don't have a lay out myself but enjoy looking at the hobby . i am a scale modeler , if you use a curved blade on your hobby knife and cut on a tile you will find it easier when cutting photo etch brass . swan morton are a good scalpel knife with various blades
Great video as always, Tris. Nice work on restoring the new loco, and painting the figurines brought back memories and some nightmares from my military miniatures days. I don't hold the tight detail brushes too steady anymore, I am afraid. lol In the end, it all looks good on the layout, which is all one wants.
Absolutely right!! As one of the operatives at the Epping Ongar Railway, I can tell you that the colour of the driver’s gear is turns from blue to grey because of all the filth on the locomotive footplate.
Love sprung buffers. I'm hoping to save up so I can install spring buffers and chain couplings on all of my oo scale rolling stock. Love the vid. Cheers from America.
Despite the missing parts I think you got a bargain Tris and you did a superb job replacing them. Great work on the crew and the weathering.. There is a company called Andrew Stadden miniatures who casts some great figures for 00 and 0 gauge crew and passengers standing and seated. I particularly like the Victorian and Edwardian figures.
interesting video . nice model . it would be nice to see a head lamp on the front , 2 small points regarding your questions about clothing. shinny top to the hats and don't forget western engine are right hand drive. well done
Great effort, and the loco really looks the part. Just one tip for you. When you cut out parts from etchings, it's best to use a piece of hardboard underneath, rather than your cutting mat, which will yield a little just as the blade goes through, and that can distort the edge of the part. (Also, using a rocking motion with a curved blade in your scalpel is easier on the wrists. But use an old blade, because you're going to blunt it anyway.)
Hi Tris always interesting to see how things are done grate job. Have you seen Modelu3d very detailed drivers, people ect . They will if you won't miniaturise you..... Keep up the good work . Stay safe.
Lovely model, looks great going round your layout. I thought the music during some of the voiceovers could be a touch quieter, made it a little more difficult to hear you speaking, but loved the video all the same!
@@OONeal Also you might bear in mind that the music makes things difficult for those, like myself, with hearing problems. Really, unless the music is essential to the presentation, I'd suggest that less is better. Though I didn't really have trouble making out what you were saying in this video, for the most part. I wish I could paint figures as well as you do... my eyesight and hands are not up to that standard. I particularly thought that the figures and the real coal made the most impact with this model.
Nice work on the 72XX another method if you dont want to super glue the l oco crew in is copy dex it drys cleare and is easerly removed if you have to take the crew out or reposistion them.
We've all been conned with second hand models even at shows. My sympathys. Can I ask what superglue you used for the buffers. Their adhesive properties seem to vary. It did look great pulling that freight train..
If people want to practice weathering and you don't want to try on a full new loco you could always have a rummage through the 50p boxes and second hand stalls at model rail show. Get old trucks and loco bodies that you won't miss. Also Tris are you tempted by the Bachmann Fairlie for your 009 section?
I have always wondered, why dikd the GWR classify their motive force as ??XX, as in 72XX? Why not simply refer to it as a 'Cass 72', etc, like the rest of them?
I have no idea but it would have been historic so even if something else was liked later on I think the company would want it to stick to keep consistency.
Nice restoration work. Just a shame it is on a new model. Spent many summers in Dorset and the Swanage is always a must plus it seems to be 10x better whenever the sun is out
Those 2-8-2s were easy to derail in yards. I scratch built a 2-8-0T out of brass in EM and it negotiates all pointwork and pulls everything. It is unsprung and has lead shot in every nookand cranny.
Awesome video as always Tris, sorry the model wasn’t what you’d hope for the money, nothing worse than that underwhelming feeling when you’ve parted with a load of cash and it’s ‘meh’. Looks great though, and as for the filler, in service repair 😉 besides, how often do you see both sides of a loco at once 😁 What’s gone wrong with the printer? Would you be able to do a quick summary of what went wrong and how it was fixed at some point? Don’t go to any trouble (especially on my account) but a quick mention would be great to know and what the rest of us need to keep an eye out for
Thank you I’m glad you liked it. That’s a good idea I’m planning on doing an update video so I should mention it and explain about the screen going down.
It was hard to hear you with that loud noise (you call music) in the video. What is wrong with the young people making videos? Don't they listen to their stuff ?
You are my new comfort youtuber
Then I am glad I can help you with that!
I reckon that loco went to a good home. Great video Tris.
Thank you Kevin I didn’t think about it like that. 😊
I've been looking on and off for some time for class 72xx steps to replace one I stupidly damaged. Thanks to you I now know where to get them. Great video, most informative. 😁👍
Another great video, you really think out your upgrades before proceeding.
Thank you Fred 😊
Nice job the work you have done certainly dose make the model look far better.
Thank you very much 😊
Such a brilliant video, Tris. Thanks for posting it...
great stuff Triss, good save on the loco and brass parts look better than plastic Andy
Thanks Andy, Yes there is something nice about the brass parts.
You have great patience and skill.....Swanage is awesome
Had a nice time on the Swanage railway myself a few years back, another tick on the bucket list! Great to show that when things get broken or is missing there is usually a way to rectify it.
Thats right as there are many out there who probably don't know so hopefully this can help them.
Great video, Tris. It's all about having a go. There's not much that can be permanently mucked up. Weathering helps additional parts to bed in nicely.
Thank you, yes and it encourages me to have a go at doing more of this in the future 😊
I love the mikado tanks. Great job adding the details. I liked the Swanage footage being put in. It was a fun mixture.
Glad you liked it Patrick!
Hey Tris... this was another fantastic restoration video... really informative and useful supplier names... and I particularly loved the mix with preserved railway footage and the beautiful English countryside... fantastic!... thankyou. J
Very enjoyable, indeed, Tris. And nice results, as well. Cheers from Wisconsin!
Thank you Andrew, I’m glad you like it 😊
Hi Tris
You made a great job on repairing the loco and the end result was excellent.
Weathering is something I want to do more of and I like what you did .
Cheers Kev
Thanks Kev, I'm glad you liked it. I've had a few negative comments about the loud music so hopefully that didnt put you off.
The music didn’t bother me but I know from other videos that some people like it and some don’t . But as the saying goes you can’t please everyone😀
Cheers Kev
I love it, actual modelling. Amazing what you can do with a craft knife and a piece of plastikard. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, I find the whole process very rewarding 😊
A brilliant little locomotive that will probably work on your layout for many years. I sincerely hope so!!
To me, some of the nicest locomotives are weathered like that gorgeous little 2-8-2!!
Many thanks!

Great job the engine looks great 😀👍
Glad you like it
Hi Tris, Great job on the loco, nice level of weathering, & impressive at the head of that freight train. Loved your visit to Swanage. Thanks again and look forward to the next one. Cheers!
Thank you David 😊 I am starting to get into the weathering and enjoying doing it with some confidence 😊
Hi Tris. Thank you for another great video. I watched your live stream one yesterday that was very informative too, I missed it on the day. Slowly working on my Lego railway in my railway room. Nice to see the swanage railway too. Take care and thank you again regards Jaeson
Hi Jameson, thank you it’s a pleasure to share. Oh great I hope you enjoy building up your Lego locos. Take care 😊
Great job on that loco Tris, especially the filler cap you made, that was very well done. You must be chuff-chuffed with how it turned out!
Thank you yes I went from really disappointed to very pleased with myself 😊
Nice video Tris. Love watching these loco restoration/fix up videos. Ashame about the missing parts but still it looks great once you added the missing parts and weathered it. Great shots of the Swanage railway.- Nicholas.
Thank you Nicholas! I learnt some skills through the video after doing it so it was nice for me to do in the end 😊

Thank you Colinx it’s great you found some time to sit down and enjoy the video and that’s really nice of you to say 😊
Hi Tris. Great to see a locomotive improved and returned to the rails.
Thank you, it’s now more than good enough to join the ranks on the railway 😊
Hi Tris, fantastic job on the loco now looks great, well put together video showing the steps you took do complete it thanks 🙂👍🏻
Thank you Mark, hopefully these videos will encourage others into enjoying having a go at building.

Thank you Chris!
I have the same model (as well as 2 28xx's and a night owl for my 8 coupled locos). Love the videos, keep em coming.
Tris you finally visited swanage!!!!
I did it was great!
Hi Tris, It’s a shame you never spotted the missing parts beforehand but you made a great job at fixing it so all has turned out well. It’s a nice looking locomotive and runs well by the looks of things. Great shots of the heritage railway, cheers Rob.

Great job I really enjoyed this episode

Great video as always, Tris. Nice work on restoring the new loco, and painting the figurines brought back memories and some nightmares from my military miniatures days. Thank you Anthony I’m glad you enjoyed the minature painting. I do enjoy that stage.
Absolutely right!! As one of the operatives at the Epping Ongar Railway, I can tell you that the colour of the driver’s gear is turns from blue to grey because of all the filth on the locomotive footplate.
Loco looked lovely . Men are good. Must get some .
Location videos good
Thank you 😊
Another great video!! 👍
Love sprung buffers. I'm hoping to save up so I can install spring buffers and chain couplings on all of my oo scale rolling stock. Love the vid. Cheers from America.
Golden rule always look inside the box before you buy a second hand model to see all the parts are there,
I will do next time 😊

There is a company called Andrew Stadden miniatures who casts some great figures for 00 and 0 gauge crew and passengers standing and seated. I particularly like the Victorian and Edwardian figures.
Thank you Ian, I will look into that make as it’s good to get a variety. Thanks 😊
good vid keep up the good vids lee
Thank you Lee 😊
interesting video . nice model . it would be nice to see a head lamp on the front , 2 small points regarding your questions about clothing. shinny top to the hats and don't forget western engine are right hand drive.
well done
Thanks for the tips!
Prairies are pretty cool. I love their design.
I agree they are very nice!
Great job 👍
Thank you Mick

Thank you Phil! I have seen them and would like a minature version of me. It would be good fun to have on the layout. Take care
Lovely model, looks great going round your layout. I thought the music during some of the voiceovers could be a touch quieter, made it a little more difficult to hear you speaking, but loved the video all the same!
Hello Chris, thanks yes I’m never sure when I’m listening back if it is too loud if too quiet. Thank you for letting me know 😊

We've all been conned with second hand models even at shows. My sympathys. Can I ask what superglue you used for the buffers. Their adhesive properties seem to vary. It did look great pulling that freight train..
Hello John, I used some Rocket Glue to hold items on as its a little thicker. I'm glad you liked the way it looked.
Another great video! How do you do it?😊💕
Thank you, I think the support i get from my subscribers helps 😁❤️
If people want to practice weathering and you don't want to try on a full new loco you could always have a rummage through the 50p boxes and second hand stalls at model rail show. Get old trucks and loco bodies that you won't miss. Also Tris are you tempted by the Bachmann Fairlie for your 009 section?
That’s very true, thats where started to gain some confidence. It’s a very nice loco but I will wait to see if I can get one for a better price.
Great useful video! How did you take the roof off the loco to install the loco crew?
What sort of soldering iron and solder do you use for the brass details?
I have an LRP Soldering Station. Its a bit overkill for the job but can desolder anything.
Tris, How did you get the cab roof off, to add in the crew?
Are you going to replace the front buffers to match ?
Maybe oneday I don’t notice it when enjoying the loco.
Nice restoration work. Just a shame it is on a new model. Spent many summers in Dorset and the Swanage is always a must plus it seems to be 10x better whenever the sun is out
Yes the sun does enhance things some what 😊 I’m glad you enjoyed the video
Lovely loco.
Will they become sought after following your video? i think money was well spent
I don’t know about that but hopefully it will show people what locos are out there. But yes I think the extra investment made it worth while
What solution are you applying to the coal after putting it in the coal bunker?
Those 2-8-2s were easy to derail in yards. I scratch built a 2-8-0T out of brass in EM and it negotiates all pointwork and pulls everything. It is unsprung and has lead shot in every nookand cranny.
Maybe modifying a bachmann Duck or Oliver with 3d handrails, sprung buffers, real coal and GWR livery
Yes that’s true though they are expensive to pick up but would be a great project thank you.
CAPITALS DUE TO PARTIAL SIGHT AND REDUCED COGNITIVE SKILLS. SPRINGS USED IN INK PENS MAY BE USEFUL FOR BUFFERS. CHEERS MICHAEL
Thank you Michael!
Sorry, but one minor gripe: the balance between voice & music is wrong. It would be better if the latter were turned down a bit.
Update: the balance was much better in the second part of the video!
I'm glad we got there in the end.
Weathered loco but pristine wagons?
Awesome video as always Tris, sorry the model wasn’t what you’d hope for the money, nothing worse than that underwhelming feeling when you’ve parted with a load of cash and it’s ‘meh’. The music is disturbing your words mate, drop the music in this good video😮
Like you to get rid of that egg boxing and those horrible plastic trees
When I get time, that sides going to be changed at some point
The music did me in after 10 mins. No need for it at all.
Hi Guy thank you for your feedback I will consider it on future videos.
It was hard to hear you with that loud noise (you call music) in the video. What is wrong with the young people making videos? Don't they listen to their stuff ?
Thank you Martin, for your polite comment. I will take your kind words into consideration.
