    Honestly, this is one of the best layouts I have ever seen in terms of detail. Wow. Great Job.

    That is beautiful. Really convincing blending of layout into background and the realism, weathering and detail is outstanding.

      Thanks Laurie. It was a fun project. Now onto the next! It''ll be a model of the next station down the line from this one. The Station is named after my wife, Helen. And her family maiden name - Walsh. The next station will be North Walsham (not after the real place in Norfolk though!)

    A beautiful layout. Feels like you are watching it on a damp morning in late autumn. Fantastic natural scenic colours and tones.

    This isn't even my hobby - thanks youtube algorithm - and I love the detail, the realism, and the background blending is 🔥.

  • @fastteddyb
    @fastteddyb 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Now that is it - you got the background just as good as the foreground so the whole think looks so real - can't tell where layout ends and background starts - wonderful!

    • @mattyhaynes1
      @mattyhaynes1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind comments. The backscene is a ubiquitous Gaugemaster backscene. It was just one of those that went really well (perhaps a bit of luck in its positioning!)

      Thanks so much Gary. My plan is to try and get something done today. I have a new tripod now which will help with the camera shake. It was pretty bad in this video! Also adding some sound on the next one. Watch this space!

    Great painting job on those engines and rolling stock - well done! You realize, or have discovered, that paint also requires that scale be carefully considered and allowed for. Lovely job.

    I tried to build a similarly sized layout when I was at college, also of a terminus with a goods yard and the like - I even had a Bachmann model of 5555! It's really nice to see that same idea done so successfully.

    Just came across this. Superb modelling, and a novel way to film. Like the commentary too. As an ex railway man I understand the criticism, but I think the model for its purpose supercedes them. I would call it 'artistic licence'.

    Couldn't make my mind up if this OO or EM. If it's OO it looks convincing. It looks amazing due to the atmosphere created - especially in the space used, which is inspirational for those of us with similar issues.

    • @mattyhaynes1
      @mattyhaynes1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your kind comment! It is 00 gauge code 75. A little finer than code 100 I guess - but still a compromise. I've gone to town on trying to disguise it with lots of weeds and grime. Think it works ok.

    It is easy to sit back and criticise others, I think this model is amazing, from foreground to background it is seamless. If it wasnt for those typical 00 gauge couplings it would be hard to tell model from reality, and lets be fair the couplings wernt made by the owner...!

    • @mattyhaynes1
      @mattyhaynes1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steve, thanks for the kindness. It's not that I can't take criticism. It needs to be delivered in a supportive way. For example. "Oh, and the signal is in the wrong place" could be rephrased to something like... "Great layout, I can see how compact it is to fit it all in. The signal could do with being moved back a bit but space looks tight and you've captured the overall feel well". Either way!

  • @johnlner

    Oh, and the signal is in the wrong place as well....

    • @mattyhaynes1
      @mattyhaynes1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I wonder if there is much sense in highlighting the issues you have mentioned? The model is built in a very small footprint...(4ft 4in by 12in) and once a modeller becomes constrained by dimensions so small... things become more about creating an atmosphere rather than being completely faithful to real world design and practice. Whilst we're on the subject of the failings of this layout... the signal box shouldn't be there at all... and there probably wouldn't have been loco facilities of this type (but possible). Cattle dock is obstructing the run round loop, oh, and that siding is a bit short. So about the signal... there was no where else for the signal to go so it went there. Perhaps they had this problem at Arley Station too (which is what I used as an example). Would be good to see some of your work. :-)

    • @johnlner
      @johnlner 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mattyhaynes1 Hi Matt, I just thought that in such a small space, if you could get everything right, then that just adds to the total 'ambience'.....
      Firstly, the signal should operate, it just jars if it is apparent that the interlocking which should be there on the real thing, is not represented on the model.
      Secondly, the signal is about 1 cm or so too close to the entry point. In a real railway, a loco can approach right up to stop signal, without passing it, and in your case, if it does that, the loco will foul the entrance to the loop.
      Small things to be sure, I admit, but if you go to lengths to get the loco right and the rolling stock right, then you should hopefully get the operation right as well.
      In my modelling days, I exhibited at many model railway shows, including the big.London ones. My greatest ever compliment was when I was at Central Hall with a small layout, and a professional railwayman stood watching for the whole 35 minutes of a sequence, and said that with the bell codes and signals, he knew exactly what was going to happen before it did......
