    Dean Goods are such a classic workhorse locomotive. These are the loco's who just go from station to station on pick up goods and not going rushing. As long as it didn't rain, you can enjoy yourself in the cab.

    I used to watch your channel all the time and somehow your videos completely slipped under the radar. Looking back I’m shocked this happened as I’d say a good majority of my modelling techniques I learned from your channel! Keep up the great work, and apologies for my absence!!

    Excellent refurbishment. It looks really nice and the cab detail is great. Who doesn't love an 0-6-0 tender loco. Your cat Groot is either envious of the attention lavished on it, or telling you he likes it, I can't quite tell 😊

    with the black I find the Vallejo Model Air Black is nicely diluted to brush on without too much streaking and not so thick that you lose detail, the Etched Plates from Fox are fantastic, I have changed all of my West Countries and Battle of Britains to use Fox Etched Names and Plaques and its such a night and day difference

    Hello, excellent job! Please keep uploading such videos, restoring or constructing from scratch steam locomotives!
    One observation only from me, if you would like, you could try a more crushed coal load. I have apply it on my 5 steam locomotives and it looks much better!
    Cheers,
    Lefteris.

    Hi Tris.
    That was a great project and very nicely done. I would however be a little less reliant on the quick and easy use of super glue as it may not be as great as its name suggests at times. Don't know if you have watched any of my latest videos but the Night Owl one explains what may happen.
    Cheers Rob.

    Love how this Dean Goods turned out, i'd personally love to have this little gem in my collection. I must say I am jealous of you lot in the UK, I live in the US and am a UK modeller myself, and it's just impossible to get the proper paints here. Can't even import the paints from Railmatch, so best I can do is mix different paints together and go by eye with an RTR model as reference.

    Excellent result Tris… but cyanoacrylate and white metal is not a long term thing !
    With your skill set mate add low temp soldering to the list. It’s the only permanent bond for white metal kits.

    I do not remember K's producing the Dean Goods, but I restored and rebuilt for EM gauge a K's body of a LNER J51 that I did not know K's had ever done. maybe this kit was not K's, but Wills?

    I like restoring models too, it can be risky though. Shame that the loco wasn't soldered originally, but all's well that ends well. Great video, thanks for sharing 👍😊
    Ive got a cast Smoke Box Dart on an O gauge loco to par off too. They really set the "face" of a loco if a seperate casting is fitted etc😉😊👍
    I've some of the Vellejo primers, how did you find it stuck to white-metal? I've had to remove oxidisation then prime with an etch primer. In the past, previous versions of Games Workshop "Chaos Black" would adhere well to cleaned white-metal, but the formula was changed and it won't work as well these days.

    • @OONeal
      @OONeal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found it stuck but I washed the model first and did quite a few thin coats and let it go fully hard. I was conscious of the primer not sticking but got through it ok.

    • @musoseven8218
      @musoseven8218 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OONeal Thanks 😊👍 A nice model ensued too, well done. Brass and white-metal, oh and aluminium, can be a real challenge to paint. I admire your CAD abilities, I should learn but each day that passes, I fall out of love with computers (after thirty five years working with them)😳🙄👍😉

    Just a pet peeve of mine; the -ol suffix means “alcohol” so it’s “iso-propyl alcohol” or “iso-propanol”.

    Hi Tris, would you recommend superglue instead of Araldite if you were building one of those kits from scratch, regards Jon.

    • @RobA500
      @RobA500 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't. Super glue dries hard and very brittle and in despite its name really isn't that super when it comes to bonding performance with solid non porous surfaces. It is better for soft porous materials hence will stick your fingers together very well. I have recently purchased a model that was "professionally" repaired with the stuff and didn't go to well, ended up having to repair it again myself.

    • @RobA500
      @RobA500 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @David Hi, I don't have any personal experience with UV cure glues but from what I have read there are types for many purposes including bonding metal plastic and even glass, so providing you have the correct type it should form a good strong bond much better than super glue.

    • @garylaker4335
      @garylaker4335 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      An epoxy is way better than a cyanoacrylate (CA or Superglue). Even better……. Low temp solder (70 deg C)
      It’s not a difficult skill and permanent!
