FWR "Fathers Wonderful Railway". Tell your dad that Layout is amazing. Your ability to take something so simplistic and turn it into something that looks like it came out of the Hornby "Super Detail" range, is outstanding! Can't wait for the next episode! Keep up the good work!
Turning an ugly duckling into a Swan. An impressive and skilful upgrade of a really basic model into a little gem. A joy to watch and a great tutorial on how to achieve a greater level of modelling. Thank you for sharing and motivating me to upgrade some of my older model trains.
Great stuff. Interestingly, if you look at photos of the prototype, the brake handle looks a lot more like the one you fitted. One other addition you could make is to use Glue 'n' Glaze to glaze the cab windows.
Lovely. The cries of "TOY TRAIN" have been forever silenced. I always had a feeling that those little 'pocket rocket' engines would scrub up nice. You've proved it. Thank you.
Hello. Buenas tardes. Mario from the wet Buenos Aires Argentina. Excellent work, congratulations. The model has been very nice. My admiration from Argentina.
What a superb rebuild of a cheap loco. I was not sure at first but your insight to the rebuild was awesome and the out come was fantastic Tris.Top Man.
This is a loco i remember my father having when I was a kid, at least a version of the tooling. Great work and a fairly simple guide to how effective updating older models can be.
What a brilliant video. Very inspirational. I have a number of these budget locomotives still in boxes that I have never used as considered too 'basic'. I will now have a go at trying out your 'super detailing'. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video.
What a transformation and so impressive 👏. I would really love to have ago myself but, I'm just not confident enough. When it comes to scenery though I am able to create a naturalistic effect and I very much enjoy doing buildings especially town and country style stations. Superbly done Tris, those details made such a difference. So many great pointers and use of small parts, I've taken note of a few of them, as some of what you used is exactly what I'm after, great upload. All the best. Brian @ The Angels.
I have this loco (already in GWR green) from my first starter set and I am planning on detailing it. Your video is a huge inspiration for me. I am afraid of installing proper handrails on the loco, but I can see it is totaly worth it.
It was enjoyable to do thank you and I’m looking forward to trying more difficult tasks 😊 thank you. I’ve finished your parts by the way. I plan to post them tomorrow 😊
Thanks tris, that was a great very informative video, I've got a 14xx with missing handrails and some Mark's on the body, you've inspired me to give it a go. I've got a little cheap loco I can practice on. The engine looks great. Eddy xx
What a wonderful job. I just got this locomotive, well same type in the most recent Christmas set. I really like the way it runs etc. I'm going to leave that as a Santa express steamer but I will purchase the set again(only way I can get 1 cheap here in the states at $60 for the entire set) and repaint the steamer. I never have it stalling on points etc.
well i'm impressed lol, I have one of these locos and didn't really look at it but you have inspired me to have a go and change it to something better, well done
Great video - informative and inspirational without some of the inane chatter that others desire to inflict upon us. Like the banners - easy to note things down 👍
Yeah that's alright that lad, well done! It's nice adding these little bits to models... Sometimes thinking of the basic stuff on offer as a starting point and you can then add bits on as you wish over the weeks, months and years, you don't even need to change ALL of the details, just what you think should catch the eye a little more 😁 Good work mate👍
Hi Tris- That came out very well and now looks a very nice Loco. Thanks for advising where you got the detailing items from. I have decided that with the cost of new locos (Hornby increasing by 10% ) I am getting older locos and adding detail. Cheers Kev
Nice!! by the way I think the chimney stack top is made from painted metal, maybe copper, with a bit of gentle pursuasion it can be removed. Strip the the factory paint and if it is copper give it a polish before popping it back. update: I just removed it on my 101 and it's a yellow metal.
Really skilful work. Impressive to watch. Slight shame it's (yet) more GWR, for those of us that have that particular allergy. But there's no denying the wonderful work.
Hey Tris…. What a great little project. There are plenty of entry level locos that can be improved to look really good…..Well done you. Regards …. Steve 👍

Expert job, which will help many people overcome the terrors of taking a scalpel to a loco body. Great end result, but as a GW enthusiast I couldn't help noticing that you've got the lamp irons on the wrong way round. When looked at from the front they should look like a reversed capital L, with the bottom of the L on the left. When someone looks at what I've built and says 'I hope you don't mind me pointing out... ' I get really annoyed, so feel free to have a rant. Great job.
That was a wonderful job Tris. I’m go to have to give it a go myself on day, I’ve also got some restoration jobs to do that can result in a bit of upgrading along the way.
