- Rustival Roundup 2024 | The UK's BEST New Car Show? - An honest review
Saturday the 9th of March 2024 saw thousands of people and hundreds of cars flock to the British Motor Museum in Gaydon for the very first Rustival car show. Held by automotive royalty, @idriveaclassic @HubNut and @furiousdriving this event really championed the overall car community in the UK.
Dad and I took the Rover 75 and videos from our day will be here on the channel, however in this video, we sit down, and unpick the day and just why it was such a game changer for the classic car showing community here in the UK and what we thought of the day on the whole.

Thanks for the kind words Jon, its appreciated! The feedback, most like your own, shows that with some really good planning these events can go ahead in a very slick manner! Enjoiyed the discussion between you and your Dad here, looking forward to the event report in full!
Thanks again! Well deserved 👍
It was a fantastic experience, and it was lovely to meet you and your dad. I also loved the overflow museum. I was extremely happy when people came up to talk about my rover 416 sli saloon
Glad you had a great day and thanks for the kind words! Great to meet you too
Needed that next to our 416 Tourer.
What a stunning success from Ian, Carly, Matt and Steph.
When I do bike shows , I talk to anyone about my bike and help anyone with advice.
Long live old vehicle shows.
Absolutely 😁
pleasure to watch
Thanks for watching
Well done Jon and dad a great video and a review of the day it sounds an amazing experience and I wish I could have made it maybe next time! It’s been great seeing all the videos of the day and your discussion it’s clear you both had an amazing time and even better the 75 behaved well too!
Next time!
Another enjoyable video! Looking forward to the rest of the Rustival footage 👍
Thank you. Need to force myself to sit and edit it all 😂
I think you're absolutely right. Car shows traditionally have been very much about people turning up to look at cars and owners spending ages making them look shiny. This felt like it was very much about car people, coming together under a common interest and welcoming everything and everyone. I loved it.
Glad your dad appreciated the sardines - how could I not gift him some? - and hope you enjoyed your fudge
A kind gesture! Many thanks. We loved it. Mrs JC and I shared it and it was great 😃
This is a good format. Your stool and dad’s crates are a stage set with a car in the middle.
Thank you. Hope you enjoy it 😌
Excellent video, I just wish I'd had the time to go to Rustival. I visited the museum several years ago and yes it is an excellent collection.
Matt Furious Driving released a video from the British Museum yesterday evening where he unveiled the rescued MG Rover prototypes.
Thanks for watching. We have checked his video out. Shame we didn't get a chance to get up close and personal
Really enjoyed your chat about Rustival...seems like my kind of car show, but being in Australia didn't make it there in person, but someday would like to visit your "green and plesant land" and attend such a show. Maybe I should acquire a Proton Jumbuck to bring with me for the occasion (there's still a few of them gettin' about down here in our dry climate). Cheers!
Thank you that's very kind. Hopefully one day!
Just a dad and his lad chatting about cars. Throughly wholesome, and the world needs more of it!
I seem to remember you got a new temperature sender. Did you keep the original? Might be an idea to pop that back in and see if the readings are different. The new one may be under-reading.
Sadly I don't think we did 😂 might be another new one!!
Excellent video, from all the comments and reviews I’ve seen the organisers did a great job. You both had a great day by the sound of it 😀
Absolutely! Looking forward to the next one
Over cooling down to the hole you drilled in the thermostat ?
That's a possibility! Might be another new thermostat 😅
I love your dad
😄 he's a character isn't he
Lovely chat, guys. I think you are ready for a live video on TH-cam 😄
Ah that's a good idea!
If I had to venture an opinion on the overcooking of the 75, I’d say the thermostat is faulty…maybe not closing properly? I had a Saab 900 years ago that ran perfectly around town, but as soon as you hit speed on an open road the gauge would fall, almost to the bottom quarter…replaced the ‘stat and all was suddenly right again. Other possibility is that the gauge or the sender unit is rubber ducked? I can tell “Dad” wants to ignore it, but running cool and taking forever to warm up will impact economy…
I think the issue might be we have replaced the thermostat however have drilled a small hole in it at the advice of forum posters. Might eventually be another new one 😅
Festival of the unexceptional .... booked a ticket for it., although it seems a lot of people have concerns over costs etc? I live only half hour from Bourne so ideal.. are you guys attending? Im in a very early Rover metro... one of the first ones built by Rover .
Yes we will be there. Will be in the Proton Black Knight 👍 great show. Have you been before?
@@JonCoupland no .. first time. I restore classic minis, but felt this show was one for the metro. I will look out for you and your dad 😃
@@andytaylor9032 excellent! I (miraculously) won the show back in 2021. See you there!
I mean... if you drill a hole in the thermostat you can probably expect it to over-cool, can't you?!?!
A vast majority of experts advise it's the done thing to do 🤷♂️
@@JonCoupland For sure. And the vast majority of engineers that design thermostats disagree with them. See also: Boyle's Law.
