CarVertical does NOT guarantee that the registration plate belongs to the vehicle you have, so you still need to have a full check on the ACTUAL VEHICLE to make sure it is not stolen, on finance or a crash repair or CoPart Special cut and shut.
If Car Vertical allowed you to search by VIN it would make this less risky.
A car check by AA/RAC/garage is a lot cheaper for what it will cover.

States this on the website if you sell to them…
The transaction fee depends on the final price.
There is no transaction fee applicable for cars valued below £99.99 (subject to minimum valuation of £50.00)
A transaction fee of £49.99 is applicable for vehicles valued at £100.00 to £3,999.99
A transaction fee of £59.99 is applicable for vehicles valued at £4,000.00 to £4,999.99
Where the price is £5,000 or more, the transaction fee is £74.99.
So to get paid for a £100 car you have to pay them a £49.99 transactions fee so you only get £50.01..?! 😂

One thing they used to do was say "you have a couple of stone chips, we can charge you to fix them". What ! Who cares on an old car. They even used to check the expiry date on tyre foam in the boot and say that reduced the price, the same for SATNAV data.
They earn money on everything they can save.
For me, it worked out very well as I got more than I would for a private sale and only paid 35% of the cost of the car new as it was on a staff scheme, so over the 5 years I had it, I got back just under what I paid. You make your money on cars when you buy them new. The lower the price the better.

A friends daughter went to WBAC in craigleith centre Edinburgh , she was quoted £1750 for a 2009 1.5 clio
the scammers knocked £1150 off for amongst other things tiny stone chips and a hairline crack in a tail light (200 !!!) and 4 tyres , leaving £600 , then refusing to hand back the keys or V5 the girl was in tears when she phoned dad as the WBAC scammer told her, if she drove away in the car, he would call the police as she was driving a unroadworthy car .
Dad told her to tell the man to call an ambulance as he was coming over with some lads from the club , when we got there she was still shaken and the little weasel had closed up and scuttled away .
Macklin Motors at Sighthill inspected the car the next day and paid £1825 for it .
Their inspector said the wear on the tyres was at 4mm or so and not an issue in the UK , the crack was in the reflector part of the light so not an mot issue and a 8 year old car would be expected to have stone chips here and there.
So be warned about these wretched people.

If you want the money the next day they charge a £19.99 fee. If you want your money "immediately" after completing the sale they then charge you £29.99.... why?
It costs them literally NOTHING to make "Faster payments". Most banks support FP scheme and it's always free of charge.... I can send £1,500 to my parents from one of my bank account's to theirs with a totally different bank and it arrives within 30 seconds. I sold my phone to Mazuma Mobile only a week ago and they sent me £600 for it... via "faster payment". The payment was made on a Friday evening and arrived about 4 hours later. The online valuation was £10k but when we took it down to them to get an in person appraisal they offered £8k because 2 of the service stamps didn’t have the mileage on them and they reckoned it was due a cam belt even though the van was 4 years old with 32k miles and the cam belts aren’t due it’ll 5 years or 80k!
They’re rip off merchants. I suppose if you’re in a bind and you just need the car gone for whatever reason then maybe, but otherwise I’d steer well clear of them

I was also almost fleeced when trading my car black 10 year old Ford focus in some years ago. The car had done 45,000 miles, had a recent MOT with no advisories, was expecting a £200 reduction on the website price of about £1300. Then the inspection took place and the we buy any car employee told me the car had to be in a "showroom condition" and would cost money to make good any scratches or scuffs on the car. He identified over 80 small minor light scratches on the car at £5 deduction/ repair cost for each one reducing the value down by £400. I traded the car in as P/X elsewhere against a used car at £6000 who did non of this silliness getting £1800 as the garage could see it was a decent car and they had no complaints about the paint work. We buy any car company should be called "we fleece any one".

Not sure people understand that it’s British Car Auctions just buying metal to feed into the trade. Where they sell it and charge huge dealer fees. So they’re never going to give you the price stated. Plus of course there is the ‘admin charge’ and the ‘faster payment’ charge.

the ones in Belfast tried the same nonsense with me when i took my 4 year old focus to them, price online went from near 9k to around 7 and the car was mint apart from a slight bit of kerbing on one alloy, a couple of stone chips on the front lower bumper and didn't realise the previous owner bought the car as an ex demonstrator from the ford dealer so had two previous owners instead of one.
The cowboys give you a higher price to get you and the car on their site then whittle the price down on nonsense hoping the desperate or ones that won't speak up for themselves accept the lowball offer.... ended up trading it in and getting a better price when getting my two year old golf R

At one point WBAC staff were incentivised based on how much they coukd deduct from an online quote and still buy the car. Not sure if that's still the case but was certainly part of their model at some point.
What you have to remember now though is that they're owned by BCA (British Car Auctions) and that's where they dispose of their WBAC buys, so they're never going to buy something which they can't make a profit on at auction.
Basically they win on both ends - nick the cars cheap from sellers at WBAC, then sell them at auction where thet have no slling fees because they own the auction but can stilll charge buyers a commission.

Years back I took in a 1.7 CDTI Astra, about 5 years old at the time, and which was in really good condition. We Buy Any Car came nowhere near matching their online quote. The rep even said it was the cleanest car he'd ever seen brought in.
There were literally a couple of minor stone chips on the bonnet from motorway driving, and they were knocking hundreds off the offer price for each chip - marking them down as body damage rather than just stone chips.
The place is only good if you want to offload your car quickly, without the hassle of selling privately and having time wasters come around.

I recently used them and to be honest I had no problems. I bought my car from dealer after the finance period and sold it to wbac. No hassles and they sorted everything there and then even dealing with finance company for the final payment etc. I was just going to give the car back and look for another but the price to buy the car seemed too good to miss. Put the details into wbac and they doubled the value! Went down and they confirmed the price. Money in account next day. The dealer was Toyota.

    • @joshmerrick4716

In that situation if you have a bit of positive equity in the car and can afford to pay the finance off etc then whatever money you come out with at the end is a bonus. Especially if you’re just going to put a deposit on another car anyway.
It’s different if you aren’t in that position though. Like if you’re in a financial state and in need of a quick sale. It doesn’t leave people in that position much change to buy a replacement.

WBAC are great if your car is knackered but the issues are not visible with a quick walk around check. Mine had broken lower arms (£1000 to fix) knackered suspension at the front (hid the squeak with WD40) and the turbo was on the way out. Their price was shocking for a decent car but better than scrap value so it worked for me. I would never bother with the DIY online quote it will just break your heart when you get the final quote. Just rock up with your car and get the chap to quote it whilst you’re there. If you do the DIY online quote use a reg from Auto trader for the same spec of car and add in all of the damage and then knock 30% off the valuation to get a realistic price.

Great video, taken a couple of cars to them in the past and played them at their own game by masking faults. Had a high mileage 2003 Honda HRV which would throw the engine management light once driven over three miles , guy at local branch only drove it around the carpark so I made an easy £900 , did not bother me knowing the car was probably off to auction and they would make the money up elsewhere

With all due respect on this, you can't just erase the mil codes Infront of them and expect WBAC to just accept the car. Once it does a full drive cycle there's a good chance that code will come back.
Interesting video and most likely there is a way to do a profit, probs wiping the mil first before you get there, but don't forget all the time you put into cleaning and sorting the car, 50£ profit is great unless it took you I'd say more than 2 hours to source the tyres, indicators and do the clean.

Tried to say the wheels needed a refurb when in reality they just needed the brake dust removing from them as I had not long before had them refurbed. Need I go on?

Their business model is all about giving an enticing but realistic online valuation but then do their best to push the value down upon inspection. They do this so that they can have as much of a margin to auction or resell the car or scrap it for parts. Never use these services unless desperate.

Never trust WBAC. £50 for each stone chip "repair". They dont touch them and simply sell at auction. Great idea though Ben and better luck next time

They also do this odd thing of offering to pay you within 24hours, which is what all bank transfers should be - if you pay extra!
If you refuse they don't pay you for a few weeks, by which time they could reduce their offer according to the Terms and Conditions.

WBAC are jokers tried to sell my Seat Leon I detailed everything down even to the stone chips on the bonnet. The offered me less than a 1/3 of the website offer then told me its because it needs a full respray. Bunch of grifters would never use them.

I knew that would happen as they did the same thing to me. Had tt 2001 green they said 1250 got there and it was 700. They want ur car for nothing as it goes straight to auction.

Great story. Love the concept and really enjoyed the video. I always thought WBAC would really try to down grade. I understand that, but if you are in real need of some cash they have you by your balls. Keep it up! Loving the channel.

I like how people doing such so call “profit” videos never calculate fuel cost, small consumable cost and the most importantly, time cost.
