    Recipe to wet shaving. Brush and a good soap shaving and a DE razor (you can always use a pre shave as well to improve the slickness in your skin and avoid irritation and burn shaving). Make a good lather with your brush and soap. You can use a bowl or simply do face lather. Now, 1. Shave with the grain, rinse with hot water. 2. Lather again and shave across the grain, rinse with hot water. 3. Lather and this time shave against the grain, rinse with cold water to calm down the skin and close the pores. 4. Splash your hands with after shave, spread in your face and you're ready to go.

    i have to agree, when i first shaved myself with a straight razor, it was a game changer. next thing i know i'm buying the bowl, good shaving cream, a brush to apply, the whole nine. seriously lol.
    saves a whole lot of money vs the cartridge crap. i also bought a safety razor that came with 100 new blades, that was years ago and i still haven't had to buy anything for them. i usually keep a beard but sometimes go through shaving phases or every once in a while just shave it off to restart, but still, straight razor shaving is superb

    • @bobbyscalchi4013
      @bobbyscalchi4013 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm going to say this. Been using both for over 30 years. The straight is a huge leaning curve holding angles right, maintaining edges, not nicking, getting BBS, as to the Mach 3 its flexible and commercial sharp and just glides in seconds plus has the lubricating strip and bends with the contours of the face. The straight you have to adjust accordingly. Especially the jaw line chin and upper lip. It's not as comfortable in some areas as the Mach 3. I do everything from face to manscape with a straight. I like the challenge. Does it come close? Depending on the day ...😅 Strop your Mach 3 and you can make one cartridge last for well over a year.

    • @bobbyscalchi4013

Unfortunately for myself I’ve been growing for 5 years and still can’t get to what Erik has in a few months haha! The faith is there though. It’s all time and growing. I just couldn’t imagine shaving and then getting a half decent beard again in under a year. I’m going until I can braid my face like Einar Selvik!

    • @DellaStreet123
      @DellaStreet123 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess some guys like the experience. Shaving with an electric, you can do that at home, too. I completely understand men who go to a barber for a straight razor shave, either as a regular wellness ritual or just to find out how it feels to have such a dangerous object dragged over your face, including the throat. To feel like your grandfather or great-grandfather -- depending on how old you are and where you grew up. In Europe, self-shaving with a straight razor was a popular practice until the economic revival of the 1950s. Safety razors to be used with disposable blades existed, but they were expensive, and some people considered the disposable blades a waste of money. Since razor blades were not stainless steel at that time, you could re-sharpen them for a few more uses yourself -- small matchbox-like implements with tiny hones and paste were sold for that purpose. My great-aunt learned how to shave with a straight razor -- it was a common task for apprentices, like washing hair. I learned how to straight-shave because I wanted to know how it feels to shave somebody else in a really traditional way.

      I think the meaning is dont make your life all about your beard, or break down if u make a mistake while trimming, because it will come back and so will you during hard times. Be the man behind the beard.

    Could someone tell me the advantages of a straight razor over a safety razor? Always though that the only pro of the straight razor is that you can cut more precisely since you can see the blade (for contours especially). Wouldn’t a safety razor be better for a full shave because as the name says, you barley can cut yourself and the blade is always on the right angle. Thanks for feedback!

    • @thetruthh.8836
      @thetruthh.8836 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both are effective but a straight razor is the best you can get, it can cut much more deeper than anything else(if it's a good one and you know what you're doing)but it's not easy to use. For a newbie definitely a safety razor is... safer lol. Make sure to use a pre shave and a quality soap and... Never... Never... Never...never press the safety razor on the skin. A safety razor is heavier than a "Mach 3"or similar, there is no need to apply pressure if you don't want to cut yourself XD. You just have to get used to it,just follow your beard and find a blade that works well for you (I use Feather blades). As you said a safety razor already gives a good angle to the blade but you must be careful and also use your wrist to adjust the angle depending on your face. A safety razor will shave much better than a" regular" razor with 10x blades mounted on it lol. I use it to refine and style my beard and it works fantastic.

      @@thetruthh.8836 Some men also claim that a true straight gives them a more comfortable shave, both during the shave and afterward, because the blade is made from carbon steel, not stainless. Before companies started to put teflon on razor blades, stainless steel blades had a reputation of being very harsh on the skin.

    One thing Francisco Alba and I have in common when straight razor shaving is we both choke up on the blade. What we don't have in common is as Francisco Alba goes back and forth with the blade across the clients entire face. I do a 3 pass shave with normally one stroke per pass. I have the blade on my face a lot less, hence, no razor burn..interesting

    @BeardBrand What if I shave every other day or once in three days. Is it okay to use just lather and not do the other steps (hot towel, rubbing lotion, etc.)?

    • @Beardbrand
      @Beardbrand  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course! The process of using a hotel towel, pre-shave oil, etc. is typically reversed for the full barbershop experience.
      When you're at home, a simple lather and shave (especially right after a shower) will work just fine. And here's a little tip, our Utility Bar works great as a shave soap if you haven't tried it yet!

    I'm very fascinated with the fact that most guys can go with the grain and be very smooth. I need to go against the grain to be smooth... and I don't have a lot of beard. But my beard growth starts to itch pretty much after one or two days and I don't use razors anymore since I started to use One blade. Is my beard hairs made of iron or what?
