In 1971 i flew from Valdosta Georgia to Atlanta, we walked up the back of the plane. There were 20 seats a curtain separated the cabin from the pilot. Our first stop was in Albany, the pine trees were wing high. our second stop was in Columbus. A man got on with a crate of chickens. Our next stop was in Macon where thank the Lord the man got off with his chicken. Our final stop was Atlanta. They dropped us off on the tarmac and pointed to the terminal. Oh yes i had to carry a 9 month old child, his stuff and my luggage. Crazy trip. And my first time flying.

A crate of chickens was allowed on that plane? Wow! Talk about relaxed standards!
As for the Chicken: I'll just take a couple of drumsticks, and a thigh, please. Just grill 'er on up. That'll do just fine for me! And please: Don't forget the Cole Slaw, and the Biscuits! 😊😊😊!

This is far closer to reality than you may realize. In 1966, I was a passenger on an old twin piston engine airliner flying out of Atlanta, Georgia, headed for Dothan, Alabama. I was looking out the windows and saw that we were flying above a layer of clouds, very close to Dothan, when all of a sudden there was a clear patch in the clouds, and the dang'ed plane dived, banked hard right and fell, through the hole, and came out underneath. Still had plenty of ground clearance, but it was murky down there. Finally circled around a bit, and landed in Dothan. Only in the South. Only in the South.

Glad ya made it through alright. Didja have anybody like Miss Minnie Pearl on your flight with ya?
Just curious...but with what you described, concerning your flight, If'n I'd of been on that flight, I'd of been wishin' for a sweet little lady to help me keep my mind off of the way that that flight went! That sounds like it was way too close for comfort!!!

    • @fredferd965
      @fredferd965 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@ronaldshank7589 At that time I already had my private pilot's license, Cesnna 150's, and 172's, that sort of thing. I don't know - it's kind of subliminal, but I got the feeling that the flight crew had done this before, perhaps on a regular basis. There was no hesitation - they just whooped the dang thing over and down we went. I'm 77 now, but back then I was young and stupid. Youth is immortal, you know. If it happened today, I'd probably be screaming or something. Still, at the time it was fun. No, there was no Minnie Pearl, heck there weren't even any stewardesses I could cling to, praying for help, or whatever. Back then any excuse to cling to a stewardess was OK with me. It was a hillbilly connecting flight in the old time deep south. They'd probably play Dixie over the PA system just before we crashed - lots of fun!

Listening to the storyline in this song, you could TELL that Little Miss Minnie Pearl got the SWEETS on Ol' Brother Ray here! She ain't wantin' to let go anytime soon, either! Ol' Brother Ray, though, he wasn't wantin' her to be a'doin' all that special payin' attention to him...but what's a feller to do?!?
Meanwhile, it might be awhile 'fore they land. Uncle Versie's gotta get them Hookers and Milkers (Bulls & Cows), off'n the Ol' Runway.
I shore hope them brand new Mud-Gripper tires work. Because-If they don't-Well, they might just skid all the way down the runway!
      WOOOOOOOOO!!! SHOOT THIS THANG!

I was driving a cab in Paducah Ky & my collateral duties took me to Alben Barkley Regional Airfield to get a delivery for a local trucking firm.
The plane was delayed because of deer on the runway so they asked me to take the van out onto the runway to scare them off so the plane could land.
I really wanted to go get my rifle & deer permit but they wouldn't give me the time to do it so there I was, swerving all over the runway, honking the horn and flashing the highbeams to clear the runway.

Man, that brings back memories!!! December 28, 1970, as an inexperienced 18-year-old pilot flying a rented airplane from Fort Wayne back to my Navy base in Memphis. Thought had to get back or die trying. Whew, almost did. With the fog, could only see straight down north of Paducah. And that wasn't very far either! Ended up finding the Metropolis Airport just 6 miles to the north. The only way I knew about where I was is when the ground went from white (snow) to brown (river). Made a 180 turn, went outbound on the 10 degree VOR radial. The ground went from brown to white and BOOM, there was the Metropolis Airport runway straight below and then disappeared at 80MPH. Another 180 and landed. Never in my life been so glad to be on the ground. After I'd composed myself and went to the ops building, the old-timers sitting around a wood-burning pot-bellied stove gave me the dickens. Didn't care at all as I had it coming. Got back to the base by bus one day late. The base Captain knew I.d learned my lesson and only fined me $10.

      @@Scharpy1 I'm from Memphis.
One time,my towboat crew was flying from New Orleans to Paducah via St Louis.
Delayed in STL gave me the chance to jump ship because the pilot had miscalculated the weight.
A later flight was to carry us to Paducah but weather passing from St Louis forced us to land in Metropolis.
