Thank you for the video. I have a misfire code on one of the cylinders. After doing various diagnoses, it has been definitely determined that the issue is with a bad ground wire on the fuel injector connector on the cylinder with the misfire code. I replaced the entire ground wire for that cylinder with the misfire code from the fuel injector connector all the way to the ECM just to be sure, even though I didn't even see a broken or chewed up wire. This didn't resolve the issue. The car has a V6 cylinder and I also diagnosed the other 5 fuel injector connectors. The ground wires for all those 5 fuel injector connectors are fine. Since replacing the ground wire didn't resolve the issue, is there anything you can suggest I try out at this point? For the time being, as an alternative method, I decided to splice and share the functional ground wire from the adjacent cylinder. In other words, I now have two fuel injector connectors sharing the same ground wire. This method has worked and has resolved the misfire issue. However, my concern is if this method is an acceptable resolution or is there any type of downside or hazard this could cause? Thank you!
Hey bud, I changed the all the spark plugs because of the code p0302, knowing it was just misfiring number 2, but nothing improved. I remove the cable from the cylinder 2 connected to the coil pack, and I don’t feel any power as in the other ones when I disconnect them. Do you think it may just be the coil ? Or the cables as well ? Since they are all pricey
Ur not getting spark out of that cylinder? Have u tried switching the wire on cylinder 2 to the coil on cylinder 4, see if u get spark using the same wire, if u do then most likely gonna be the coil
Backyard Chevy .... it ended up being the coil. I had to replace it for a new one, and ended up replacing the cables and spark plugs as well. Thanks dude.
Never assume it's the coil. Even if it' snot firing on the coil.. You have to check to see if the ECU driver is triggering the coil pack for that cylinder. That is done through the connector on the back of the coil pack...If you don't get the signal from the ECU.. Then you better hope it's a broken wire. As the ECU has to be replaced. And they stick it under the driver side wheel well.. Where water. Dirt, Snow, Ice beat on it...Then you have to reprogram the ECU to your ignition and VIN number..
I’m new to your channel and I have a 2006 Chevy Equinox that I’ve had nothing but trouble out of for the past year. It still shows a #4 cylinder misfire and we’ve put new plugs, wires, fuel injector, coil pack, solenoid sensor(I think that’s what it was called) and it has an entire brand new braking system cuz my calipers kept sticking and now it’s due for tag renewal and the engine light is on. 😞 I’ve tried to keep it going cuz it’s paid for and these days nobody can afford a car payment but I just don’t know what could be wrong with it. It showed low compression back in the summer but now it doesn’t. It also used to show a #5 misfire with low compression but not now. Can you PLEASE HELP and give me suggestions as to what else I can do? There’s a part that’s near the exhaust but I forgot the name and I thought that maybe that might be the problem. All the plugs and wires are new (replaced in June) so I don’t know what to do. I’m so upset and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Does it run like it has a misfire the whole time? Or specific times? My main concern is the low compression but then went away..theres definitely an issue there thats causing it, maybe its not there all the time but low compression normally wont just go away..i would start by checking that again and comparing it to surrounding cylinders
@@backyardchevy328 it runs great but I’ve noticed that it uses more gas at certain times. @@MawMawsGirlz yea if u got low compression that would definitely be the reason its misfiring..but it could many reasons..some less expensive than others...maybe if they ran a leak down test on it..theyll be able to pinpoint if its a valve or piston ring issue
Hi, I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan with a p304 code which I was told that means misfiring on cylinder 4. I had the coil pack, all spark plugs and wires replaced but still misfiring. Any tips you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
I would have compression on that cylinder tested if that checks out ok...it may have a problem with the injector itself or possibly the wiring to the injector, on those injector harnesses ive encountered a few damaged wires in my days that shorts the signal to the injector.
It would all depend on a few things..gotta test for the misfire then replace the problem...then find the ac leak using a dye fix that problem and fill it
U could try switching over the spark plug wire from a different cylinder and see if misfire changes to that cylinder..if not i would check compression and compare reading to the ones next to it..to make sure theres nothing internal causing that misfire..if thats fine ud have to test ur injector and signal from injector
Thank you for documenting this issue. Very helpful and most wouldn't take the time! Next time please slow down and enunciate your words so I don't have to replay parts of your explanation two or three times to understand what you're saying.
Thank you🙂 yea this was one of my older videos..ive worked on that since then, seems so far so good i havent had any comments about not being able to understand me.
Have u put a spark tester on that spark plug wire coming from the coil to test if coil is putting out spark..i would also test the compression on that cylinder with a compression tester to make sure the internals are good...if all that checks out fine..maybe test the injector signal and injector.
After watching this video I switched cyl 1 with cyl 3 to see if my 0301 error would stay or jump to 302, it seems to stay at 302 so I removed the battery to clear the codes to get a true test, put the battery back in and now the car starts and revs normal again, engine light out.. its so strange, I will just drive it to try and bring that engine light on then I can read the code again to see if it works, just puzzled why the car starts sweet now. great vid
The spark plugs didnt look bad enough to cause a misfire and it wasnt til later that i noticed the bad plug had a crack on it. I usually do tests to find the cause before throwing money at it and it seemed like itd make a good video for tests to perform. So the video ended up working 2 fold.
I have a Nissan Max, I’m getting p0303 p0300 and p0174, I bought A radiator, It fixes it for two months, Now it’s barley running, I took it to a shop they said throttle body! Any suggestions?
P0174 is a lean bank 2 meaning one side of ur engine is running with more air than fuel..and that could cause misfires like the ones ur getting..but if it has a misfire specific to a cylinder ive had a situation where a fuel injector was leaking too much gas and the spark plug when i would remove it would be covered in fuel..a vacuum leak could cause that too..majority of the cases for the lean code its cause the oxygen sensor is old or worn out..do u know when is the last time youve replaced em? If u think theyve been longer than 60k miles it should probably be replaced anyways
My 05 dodge minivan keeps saying p0304 code. That 4th spark plug.. I got all 6 spark plugs changed new. And new spark plug wires. But that code p0304 still shows up. What does that mean now? The front 3 spark plugs do have quite a bit of oil buildup around where it screws in
Ud probably have to test to see if ur getting spark from the ignition coil with a spark tester that u connect to the spark plug wire...if ur getting spark then ud probably wanna check compression just to verify that maybe not a damaged valve...if that checks out fine..itll most likely be a injector or signal from computer to the injector
@@backyardchevy328 ok cool thank you for the quick reply. Last year I got a new ignition coil. Because I had bad engine problem only for mechanic to say I need a new computer. Which I got a 2nd hand computer and reprogrammed it. So new wires. New spark plugs. And a fairly new ignition coil. Still having problems with p0304 code. Maybe the valve or injector?
@@johnw3794 well they still can go bad..some aftermarket parts have lower quality then oem..so u dont wanna skip on it being a possibility, but checking compression will tell u if u got a bad valve or rings
Is the compression test cold? Do you recommend removing the coils or disconnecting/removing fuse on the fuel lines before conducting the compression test? Thanks in advance.
I just disconnected the power to the ignition coils..youll wanna preferably disconnect the igntion because if u disconnect fuel pump fuse..itll still burn any remaining fuel so it may start for a few seconds...but yea itll be best to do the compression test cold.

Hi🙂 well based on ur codes..u got issues with that whole bank of cylinders and u got an issue with the catalytic converter..does it make a different sounds kinda like a putt putt noise and feel like it has no power?(if so, it could be that u got a clogged catalytic converter on that side) or maybe an issue with an oxygen sensor if its not making that type of sound
@@backyardchevy328 Thank You! I really want to diagnose this vehicle (2003 DODGE CARVAN SE) by myself and not throw parts at it guessing. Are you able to show me the process step by step on a separate video or in a different method or way?

I don't know what could cause 2 4 6 misfire
By any chance have u gotten a lean bank 2 code? If so could be a bad oxygen sensor causing misfires on that bank...Yea misfires will ruin catalytic converters.
@@backyardchevy328 yes I have catalyst system below threshhold on bank 2 codes 3 times on report I'm guessing for the 3 cylinders that are misfiring on that side?
Below threshold means the catalytic converters not working as well as it should be..wonder if by any chance that it broke apart and is causing a restriction in the exhaust on that side..that could definitely cause misfires
Thank you so much i really appreciate it:), the plugs actually didnt look too bad but one of em had a crack in the porcelain part...hopefully the wires help it out..good luck
The spark plugs are part of a tune up, but my videos showing checks if the cars running bad...but a tune up is more of a preventative thing, where u replace spark plugs, spark plug wires, pcv valve, filters, etc. To avoid them causing future problems due to wear.
Very nice video. I give you a 100%. But here’s my problem. I have a V6 and I have a misfire in cylinder 5. I changed the spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel injectors, ignition coils, maf sensor, fuel filter, fuel pump, pcv valve, did a compression test and my internals seems very good. Cylinder #5 is 160, cylinder 3 is 165, cylinder 1 is 160. What else can cause a misfire? I’m out of options.
Thank you🙂...Did u test the signal at the fuel injector to make sure its telling fuel injector to spray? Did u test for spark coming out of ignition coil with a spark tester to make sure computer is sending a signal for it to fire? Its the main things that are left maybe its got a wiring/computer issue.
Have u ran any tests on it? Like swap coil or spark plug wire from a different cylinder..or check to see if its got spark with a spark tester..check compression(that tells u if everything is ok inside)

I have a cylinder 2 misfire code. 2006 Town/Country 3.8 L. Installed new plugs and wires. Compression seems good. (155 on #2, #4, #6) Cleaned throttle body and EGR valve. (Had EGR code). Would a bad injector have its own code? Not sure what is most likely bad. Any easy way to test the coil, or is multimeter the only way? Anyone have ideas on whats wrong?
have u used a spark tester on that cylinders coil wire? no a bad injector would still show up as misfire...but id check for spark from that cylinder using a spark tester and if u got spark then most likely could be ur injector or signal for that injector.
Yea i just didnt wanna replace anything til i was sure something looked bad and not til after i finished recording did i notice a tiny crack in the ceramic portion of the bad spark plug, but it made for a good video on how to test everything to make sure and not just replace parts.
i would start by putting a spark tester to see if the coil is working, if that checks out fine..id test the wire...if that checks out ok..check compression...and if compression is good then u might need to test that injector or wiring to the injector.....theres a common problem with the injector wiring getting damaged on these vehicles so u might wanna check the wiring if u do have a problem with the injector signal...hope this helps..let me know how it goes..good luck.
@@backyardchevy328 Well I took plug out and put it on the engine so it grounds with it and cranked the motor, no spark there. Next thing to do is replace wires probably.. I get fuel in the cylinder cause the plug was wet from previous attempts.
yea if ur not getting spark, its either gonna be the coil or wire...u can swap a wire from a different cylinder of same lenght and if spark is still not there, its a problem with ur coil...if it works with other wire then problems with ur wire.
tbh i would have stopped after the ignition wire test and just swapped the plugs if the engine is on one of my own cars where i know the maintenance history. compression loss is only an issue for very old or very poorly maintained vehicles. The fuel injector is a possible culprit, but those things are usually pretty bulletproof and rarely outright fail in a stock engine set up.

@@backyardchevy328 I completely agree that its good to show how to test for every condition. you'd be lucky if your misfire is just electrical. I had to get a new engine. my piston blew apart. p0303 cylinder 3/4. 2 large chunks broke off the sides of the piston below the top ring at almost 90deg angles from each other looking top down. I paid $706 out of the ~$3,200 for it to get fixed. 22% and 1 whole month without my car... I personally inspected and diagnosed the electrical aspect of cylinder 3 and decided it was working flawlessly and the problem was mechanical. So no cheap fix i could do in an hour or day. just spark plugs would have been great. lol but i also have a friend at work who's truck has multiple misfires so clogged injectors maybe?
Yea that would definitely be a worse case scenario unfortunately...multiple misfires(not sure if same type of vehicle or different so i wont be specific to this vehicle) could be a bad coil if its one single coil assembly controlling all..ignition control module..it can also be a bad oxygen sensor or yea clogged injectors but usually starts with one injector...and spark plugs also if theyve never been replaced..vacuum leak after maf sensor

Definitely start with compression next, that'll tell u if ur internals are all working properly...swap a ignition coil anyways like from cylinder 3 to cylinder 5..if the misfire switches then the coil is starting to go bad with random misfires.
@@Tom-wq2mz random misfire usually affects every cylinder or maybe one bank of cylinders(can be vacuum leaks, oxygen sensor, coils, module etc.)...while say a cylinder 1 misfire is specific to that cylinder caused by something related only to that cylinder only(bad plug, wire, injector, coil specific to that one, bad valve, piston rings, etc.)

I would have compression on that cylinder tested if that checks out ok...it may have a problem with the injector itself or possibly the wiring to the injector, on those injector harnesses ive encountered a few damaged wires in my days that shorts the signal to the injector.

The front 3 spark plugs do have quite a bit of oil buildup around where it screws in
Ud probably have to test to see if ur getting spark from the ignition coil with a spark tester that u connect to the spark plug wire...if ur getting spark then ud probably wanna check compression just to verify that maybe not a damaged valve...if that checks out fine..itll most likely be a injector or signal from computer to the injector

tbh i would have stopped after the ignition wire test and just swapped the plugs if the engine is on one of my own cars where i know the maintenance history. compression loss is only an issue for very old or very poorly maintained vehicles.
