Broke my heart. Dad had stuck out a glue trap for mice, because they were eating the wiring under the cars. A tiny sparrow saw an insect on it and landed. Took me a couple hours to gently remove the birds feet from the trap. Then I had to use a gentle soap solution to remove the glue from his toes. Dad stopped using glue traps after that. You could almost feel the gratitude from that tiny bird as it looked me in the eye. He flew to a branch and just rested before trying to find some food before nightfall.

I once did this exact thing to a Dragonfly, his wings were all twisted with a web and his hands were stuck together. I sat at my kitchen table for about 15 minutes with little tweezers and needles fixing him. It's like he knew I was helping him and didn't move. I was able to get most of the webs off and his wings started to look normal again. I even had a bottle cap filled with some water for him to drink while I did it. Afterwards, I picked him up and let him off on a plant and he took off flying away. These insects are smarter than we think.
I did the same with a firefly, it had its legs tangled in a web
I did the same thing with an ant. I fixed it by squashing it

@@nathancruzvazquez9311 my brother and I had a "pet" spider in our in our yard when I was a kid. Some kind of garden spider. We caught grasshoppers and put them into his web. We'd watch him bite and paralyze the grasshopper, then wrap it in a cocoon of web. It would then suck the grasshopper's insides out till it was just a shell. We fed it all summer and it got huge.

Once saved a ping-pong ball sized bumble bee I found pretty much frozen on my machine one morning and brought it in the cab by the heater and squished up some honeydew to let him or her slurp up all the juices. Hung around and landed on me a few times before it eventually could fly enough to let it back out to the chilly spring morning

Amazing how quickly the spider realised it was being helped..and stopped resisting. Animals are much smarter than we give them credit for.
I doubt a creature that doesn't even have a definitive brain is smart enough to understand something like that though
@@AverageAlien They take decisions and react to things. Spiders can release big preys from their webs to stop nuisances on it. They are not a worm.
Spiders tend to freeze up as well under stress just saying
It's not a particularly intelligent behavior, all animals are capable of deciding what actions will increase or decrease their chances of survival, and in this case the fuzz on its legs were decreasing its chances of survival, and for some unknown reason a giant metal object, which was not a predator so had no desire to kill the spider, was removing the fuzz from its legs, increasing its chances of survival. It would have been unusual for the spider to flee, as wolf spiders are active hunting spiders that don't spin webs, so having its movement significantly hampered is a definite death sentence for it.

I just operated on a Huntsman for 10 minutes with tweezers and pliers! Was so happy to see it run free afterwards:) Had to come here and watch straight after!

@@RiesenWuschel Well, truth be told, she may simply just be exhausted... Due to the fuzz on her legs, she was unable to crawl where she needed to crawl, which eventually forced her to take a longer route, or maybe she just fell down after failing to crawl on the wall, which ended up with her exposing herself to the human.
I don't think she was smart enough to appreciate the humans help, but i think the reason she wasn't aggressive or ran off was because she was exhausted from not being able to walk properly.

Spiders are a lot more intelligent than given credit for. Black widows have been examined mending their broken legs with silk. Literally spinning a cast around the broken joint. Regal spiders trust their keeper as someone who isn't a threat and generally like to stay close to them. Even don't mind being pet because they can recognise us as not a threat/too big to have an interest in eating it.
Most people would say it takes the hands of a surgeon to pull that off. I say it takes calmness and patience.

Wolf spiders are super fast they run so the fact that the spider is calmly letting him remove the entangled stuff on his feel makes me think we know nothing about our universe. Clearly the spider should be running and hiding but he clearly understand he's trying to help him. Jus amazing. Good job man.
Each day of my life i m wandering how much can animals understand about the thing happened around them , i mean can a criket know about reason , can a wolf be able of compassion, can they understand when someone want to help them or hurt them ?.... and even more

It's strange to think that a spider has the mental capacity to understand that a creature that is ten times its size and is picking at its legs isn't a threat, but is actually helping out. Really cool though.

Well Wolf Spiders can't spin web, so they utilize burrows and even make fortification against possible flooding. So they are indeed highly intelligent.

I will never underestimate the intelligence of any animal, ever again. I've seen divers cuddling with wild sharks. I've seen people getting friendly with lions and hyenas. I've seen crows skateboarding down rooftops off plastic lids. I've seen the great intelligence in octopuses. Now also spiders accepting help? Humans shouldn't be top predators. We should be protectors of all life.
