俺も小学生の頃に、オオスズメバチに刺された事がある。
忘れもしない。
あれは小学校4年生の、夏休み明けのよく晴れた日の朝だった。
俺は目覚し時計と母親に叩き起こされ、いつものように2階の寝室から1階へ駆け下りた。
コップ一杯の水を一気に飲み、顔を洗面所でジャブジャブ洗うのが毎日のルーティンワークだ。
それが終われば、母親がいつもの朝食として、目玉焼きとゴハンと味噌汁とソーセージを用意している。ご機嫌の朝食だ。
俺の苦手なピーマンは見なかった事にする。
母親に見つかる前に、俺は席を立ち、着替えに洗面所へ行く。
我が家の朝の着替えの一部は、自分の部屋ではなく洗面所にあるからだ。
そこで俺は学校に行くために服を着替える。
と、その瞬間、俺は目の前が真っ白になった。
背中の上の方を、まるで拳銃のゼロ距離射撃を受けたかのような、爆発するような熱さと激痛に襲われたからだ。
何が起こったのか、俺は全く理解が出来なかった。
俺にできるのはただ七転八倒し、絶叫を上げる事だけだった。
母親が駆けつけるが、何を言っているのか分からなかった。
俺はただ痛みを訴えるしかできなかった。
小学校高学年にもなって、大粒の涙をボロボロこぼして泣いた。
多分兄弟も俺の情けない姿を診ていた気がするが、よく覚えていない。
すると、母親が近くにいる何かを発見した。
俺はこの時に何がいたのかハッキリ見えてなかった（涙で視界が機能していなかった）。
母親は、母親自ら履いていたスリッパを手にして、その何かを叩き潰した。
後で分かった事だが、その何かはオオスズメバチだった。
オオスズメバチは何度でも刺せる。
近くにいた母親も俺と同じような地獄を味わう可能性かあったわけだ。
なのに専用の装備も何もなく、その場の即興で母親は憎き虫野郎を叩き潰したのだ。
母は偉大だった。
俺は救急車で運ばれた。
その間もずっと痛みで泣いていた記憶しかない。
幸いアナフィラキシーショックや後遺症にはならず、日帰りで退院した。
その日と次の日は学校を休んだ。
後になっての推測だが、オオスズメバチに刺された原因は服にあったと思う。
服を外で日干しし、その時に服の中にオオスズメバチが入り込んでしまい、それに気付かずそのまま取り込み、俺も気付かず服を着て刺されてしまったのだ。
それを教訓に日干しした服を取り込む際には、母親も俺もよく叩いてから取り込むようになった。
オオスズメバチを叩き潰した所は木造で、その痕跡がしばらく残っており、俺はそれを見るたび刺された時の事を思い出して恐怖した。
今はその家も取り壊して、母親は父と喧嘩して出ていってしまったが、あの時の母の勇姿は今でも覚えている。
そして俺は今日も、服を取り込む際と着るときには念入りに叩いてからヨシ！と言いながら着込んで、朝のスタートを切るのだった。おしまい。

Thanks for sacrificing your body for the video. I was born and raised and still live in Japan, and we are put in this danger every summer. This was really educational, gave us some ideas how to protect ourselves from them and teach kids about dealing with the situation if they stung.

hey alright the guy who exterminated the first nest in Vancouver island got stung 7 times. He was wearing a suit and everything too. imagine this 7x over
I've seen these in Japan and they are freaky huge. That said, his line about if you get stung by 40 of them, you could die... Isn't that true of a lot of hornets? That said, 40 people die of these per year in Japan, I have no idea what the death toll in America is from our hornets and yellow jackets.
