I got a pet spider 4 months ago by accident. A green house spider or something like that travelled to my home on a house plant. It’s been living in a net on my plant table ever since. It has grown a lot and eats basically all of the fungus gnats that live in the plants. They can apparently live over a year, so I will keep her for as long as she stays. So far she hasn’t moved from her original place .
She's so gorgeous! 😍 Mine recently passed and before I could even clean his enclosure out, I found a teeny tiny one in my living room with only 5 legs. It was having trouble getting around, so it's now in the same enclosure my old wolf spider friend was in and will be staying with me until it's legs grow back. Or forever, who knows. 🖤
Maple is such a beautiful girl. Watching this video was bittersweet for me. I love wolf spiders and finally got a Carolina wolf spider back in June. Sadly, I unexpectedly lost her earlier this month. I'm still heartbroken over losing my beloved Eclipse. She was such an awesome spider. Congratulations on your beautiful girl and awesome video.
I started keeping spiders once I started seeing your videos on TH-cam! I actually caught a wild wolf spider in my backyard and its been thriving in its enclosure I made for it. I recently went to a creek and found a decent size fishing spider, it has eaten every time I've given it crickets so far.Seems to be doing great.
I had been considering getting a wolf spider as my next spider, after my beloved jumper (Hyllus Diardi) sadly passed. Think this video sealed the deal! My only concern is the speed - are they ok as long as you don’t startle them?
@@futurerush2560 i'll pop in and answer by saying that while they are one of the fastest spiders in the world (some of them can run 2 feet in a second) when startled they either stop moving entirely or try to bite whatever is bugging them so i wouldn't worry too much about it. I'd totally recommend wolf spiders, one thing I will say though is something I am yet to see in any care sheets; males appreciate space to move, they like to climb and they likely won't burrow
So cute! It's always interesting to learn their likes and dislikes. I recently rehoused my Grammastola pulchra. In their last enclosure they shoved all their leaf litter in to a corner. So for this rehouse I did a more 'rocky' set up and they seem to like it.
Thanks, Kat, for the wolf spider videos. I agree, there is a dearth of info on keeping these spiders. My first ever spider was a wild caught wolf wandering through my house 5 yrs ago. I found about half a page of care info (not very detailed at all) on a university's extension website. I kept the wolf in one of those plastic gallon cheese ball container tipped on its side for 4 months, and looking back I know I made a few mistakes due to lack of knowledge. We caught another one two months ago that I've been keeping. This time I have more consistent access to TH-cam and between jumping spiders and tarantula videos like yours, I feel my spider and spider keeping knowledge in general has grown considerably. But I do really wish for more care and keeping videos for wolf spiders. It took me several weeks, but I did identify my current one as a Rabidosa rapida male. I've never seen one with the front black legs and think he's gorgeous. I set mine up in the large Tarantula Cribs terrestrial enclosure. I know he won't live long, just like the jumpers, but your videos have inspired me to start looking more indept into tarantulas. However, I doubt this will be the last wolf I keep.
It is always a sight to see walking around outside and seeing one with all its babies chilling on its back. We used to get wolf spiders this big and larger in my parents basement. My sister and I had rooms down there.
I got a Hogna miami named George and he's so awesome. He burrowed a lot when young, but he's out and about now, uses all of his 15" hobby lobby acrylic house. Love their cute faces
I heard of a family in California that had to move out of their dream home because of wolf spiders. They couldn't get rid of them no matter what they did, the spiders would just come back with a vengeance. It was kinda creepy for sure.
Wolfspiders are awesome. A lot of Tunnels in my Workspace. In Pots, Cracks, any fitting Room. Nothing left alone long enough is safe. They also make awesome Webbings. Wich is all you see from them in the Day, unless you have to evict them. We want to remove an Space Cover in our Yard and hope for all Babys be gone soon to make it happen. Looked like a Nursery underneath. So we let it rest. I love to watch and interact with wild Spiders. Feeding them, give Jumpys a ride when they step up, watch them hunting, pairing. They're everywhere.
I have one I've been feeding, she's been in the same spot for 2 years....I thought she'd be dead by now but surprisingly she's still kicking and has her 3rd egg clutch. I just love the fact that she waits till I bring her food, I know when she's hungry cause she sits at the edge and waits till I drop a grasshopper or cricket even an earwig and she'll take it and go back in. Rn her burrow is covered up since it's getting close to winter. Here's to more happy years lol
That part where you had her in the cup and she kinda got scared and jumped back made my heart just melt for her. She's absolutely beautiful and a precious thing! Thanks for sharing her!
Just caught a large female wolf spider roughly this size in my basement last night. She had a very large abdomen, but no babies (thankfully). Ended up keeping her for about a half hour until I worked up the courage to let her walk on my hand for a bit. She was very docile and maybe even a bit scared. Never had a chance to see a spider that large up close. Had to release her though. I'm sure she was getting hungry. I used to wonder how people keep spiders as pets, but now I don't.
Wolf spiders are really cool. I live in Washington state so I don't have the ability to find many big spiders in my area. The variety we have don't generally get as big as they do elsewhere but I love them just the same. Around here most people think every spider looks like every other spider so obviously everything is a brown recluse. While they are gnarly looking my experience is they are never aggressive. As for why they aren't very popular, it's hard to say. I feel like their commonality has an effect on that. Even I can find them in my state. The critters that are hare to find are almost always going to be valued more. But the requirements to keep them are really simple. They are active and watching the one I had hunt the food I gave it was really interesting. Definitely under rated. I'm glad you shine a long on the spiders most people see all the time and can't seem shake their fear of. You're doing good work.
Well in Washington state I can say with certainty that the people who think every spider is brown recluse are definitely wrong 100% of the time since brown recluses are not native to the west coast, they only live in the middle part of the country.
@@chriswhinery925 While I have no argument against this I can say with confidence that most of the people around me are pretty dumb. If it's even kinda big with a bunch of legs it's obviously the most toxic kind of spider. Not that the recluse is the most potent, again most people are really dumb and don't want to learn.
Wolf spiders are my #2 after jumping spiders in general. I love them. They are so active, beautiful, fast and brutal...and the babies on them is an amazing thing to see. I use to keep them...I only wish they'd live longer. A couple years is usually pretty long for the ones local to my area in Canada.
Also... Wolf spiders need a ton of space if you want to see how they behave....a 3G aquarium is a good size...longer than tall...they can run and pounce on prey from across the enclosure in the blink of an eye. You need a big space to truly appreciate their behaviour. And it won't hide all the time if it feels safe ...it will always be visible. The ones here like flat rocks...it gives them hides and places to run. Your new enclosure is still only about 1/4 of the ground area I'd recommend if you want to see its natural behaviour. They hunt well away from their webbed up hide spot. They seem to prefer dryness as well, with only a bit of moisture beneath their hide rock.
Our local large wolfies look so much prettier though, not gonna lie...they have more wolf like "fur" with patterning. We do have some less pretty smaller ones.
I wanted to say "you should have cut the cork round" but honestly I love how it broke. They way it broke is perfect for the natural theme of an enclosure. Love the enclosure. I've never thought of owning a Wold spider, I see them all the time and try to photograph them, but I always lose them in the leaves.
When you were putting the enclosure together I thought some pothos would look nice with the cork but your idea turned out even better I think. Also I think I speak for everyone when I say I live for the Bowser Breaks.
We have them all around they get huge. Off topic but I'm so excited! Pumpkin Plush has arrived its so stinking adorable, I got it for my daughter for Christmas but I want to give it to her now it's so freakn cute! Ugh.
I love wolf spiders, had two. My first one was a Tigrosa georgicola, and my current one is a beutiful white Hogna Lenta. Along with velvet spiders, they're one of my favorite types of true spiders to keep.
Love this content! I have a wolf spider and there's really not enough info on keeping them. They are super interesting spiders to keep and really cute too. Hope to see more Maple content in the future.
We have two good sized wolf spiders that made homes outside next to my garage and behind the house. I fed em a cricket and never seen em until then. They were BIG. But if you are ever liking into getting another wolf spider, my suggestion is the Carolina Wolf spider, its the biggest wolf in the world!
Hi i definitely agree wolf spiders are such cool little spiders to keep. I've kept dozens of them and always want to have at least a few in my collection along with a few fishing spiders. As always have a wonderful day.
It’s been a while since you’ve filmed this, but I just watched it and I have to say how much I love your enclosure designs! I love how you really think about the animal you’re creating the space for and consider what will make them happy based on what they would normally find in nature and not just because it’s cute or cool (although they always end up being very cute and cool 😎). Thanks for sharing your love of animals and for inspiring others like me! ❤
I'm from east coast VA and we have wolf spiders in abundance in the woods and they definitely come into the house whenever they want to, We always rehouse spiders in my house back outside. Had a cute little black jumper the other morning but we let him go. I love them from afar... for now. Ty
I live in Australia and personally haven't kept a Wolfie yet because of their short life span 😭💔 but this video is really making me want to give in, that face 🥺
I live on a farm windows open all the time. One morning I felt something on my feet pulled back the cover slowly to find a wolf spider with a bunch of babies. Pretty cool was better than the snake -non venomous -I found in my bath tub! Farm life always interesting … love it
There's a vendor at my local expo trying to make common found arachnids a part of the hobby. He has all sorts of wolf spiders, jumping spiders, aquatic bugs, etc. But they're not very popular at his table. 🥺 I recently caught a female wolf spider that decided my apartment looked like a good spot to have her egg sac, and this video is giving me so many ideas.
My best friend found my wolf spider. She saved it for me they were going to kill it at her husband‘s job 😢 I’ve had her for almost a year and she actually just laid an egg so excited. Wolf spiders are gorgeous
I don't keep wolf spiders for the same reason I don't keep jumping spiders or true spiders in general: life span. Whenever I lose a pet I get pretty broken up about it and it feels like I'd just be housing a little heartbreak countdown timer. The fascination isn't worth the knife in the gut for me. I much prefer just interacting with wild ones that I can't get too attached to by giving them a welcoming natural environment outside and being kind to any that make it indoors. Indoor "wild" spiders are probably the closest I'll ever get, where I'll give them water access and the occasional snack, but those are always webbing species that stay in one place like widows and orb weavers. Otherwise I happily shell out for female tarantulas so I can spoil them a long, long time and call it a day.
Currently working on overcoming my fear of wolf and huntsman spiders. I was able to get over my fear of tarantulas a few years back but these two are the holy grail of terror for me. Wish me luck, I'm currently unable to look at it for more than 0.5 seconds without curling in on myself.
Your girl is so sweet and calm, I forgot wolf spiders can be like that. I have a large female Rabid Wolf Spider, shes crazy. If you want a "fun" wolf spider, get a Rabid. They're fast, jumpy, chaotic spiders. The whole time I was watching you put yours into that new enclosure I was just thinking about how fast my girl would had jumped out of it on that highest corner.
I haven't seen many wolf spider owners on youtube, it's an awesome setup for her! I have kept quite a few and they're honestly my favourite spiders. I used to keep mine in an enclosure similar to yours but quickly learned that they can and will jump clean out of it if you aren't careful. I just upgraded my big male to a 10g and watching him run around and hunt has been super rewarding, I'm hoping to find a big female soon because the burrowing and housekeeping is pretty much exclusive to females, but i'm limited to whatever I can find outside because you can't import native species as pets where I live.
Your new name for me will be Mushroom Spider Kat lol, you love the mushroom decorations and if there is some form of a mushroom spider out there, you should definitely get one that would be cool. One day I hope to have jumping spiders
Just before our cold weather change here in kansas I had 6 rabid wolf spiders run across my back porch and let me capture them. I now have quite the collection of black widows, wolf spiders and some false widows that I'll keep until next spring. The wolf spiders are much more aggressive when I feed them crickets compared to my widows. Just wanted to let you know since you have a video on the wolf species. I've got caught 2 kinds of wolf spiders the rabid and another kind that makes thick web. I've made attractive scenery in their 18 inch fish tanks. Mark Rusher
I love keeping wolf spiders. I just recently realized all the species that are readily available here, and it got me back into spiders after 20 years. I put a couple vids up of mine.
THANK YOU! I needed a good idea of what my new buddy needs as far as a better home than what I’ve temporarily made. Just started following once I got my first jumper and now with my second who is wolfer 😅😊😊
This is a great vid for general keeping of wolf spiders. It’s hard to find info on them as pets. There was one living in my garden that I loved saying hi to. Last week a wasp stung and paralyzed her then started dragging her back to its nest. So I scooped her up and have been giving her water/pedialyte with a syringe and some flies. She’s already moving a little and attacks my tweezers just like yours does. I’m wanting to set up a better tank for her since she’s moving a little. It’s my first spider and it’s all over my head a little.😬
This video solely motivated me to get a wolf spider so when I was picking up my first g. Rosea two days ago I decided to pick up a hogna schmitzi, can’t wait for it’s adult coloration! But it’s really small right now and really fast, it’s like 1/8
Wolfies are the cutest! And I agree there isn't enough care-guides and videos about them. 🥺 Thank you for spreading awareness about how cool pets they are! I lost mine this weekend and I was just about to re-home her to something better too. :(
I found one of these while mowing the lawn. I could hear it walking it the grass(when I turned the mower off obviously), about the same size as yours. But it was all black, even when the fangs came out they we're a shiny black. I put it in a similar enclosure, but only had sand, bamboo and a rock. I was amazed when i saw it dip its fangs into water and suck it up. It was so aggresive.... Which they are. Luckily they're venom isn't very lethal. The room I grew up sleeping in had 3 crawl spaces, and we had woods and creek 50 feet away, They would eat me alive.
As someone who can get creeped out handling most large spiders, I can say I never get that feeling with Wolf Spiders, they're eyes and mannerisms I find really charming.
I maintain that a lot of spiders have very cute faces when you get to see them close up, it's just that most of them either are too small to see their faces without magnification, or the bigger ones scare people off with their general body/leg shape before anybody bothers looking at their funny little face.

I just found one at work and made a quick habitat for it. I don’t know much about it. It’s my first pet spider and I love watching this thing eat crickets.
I asked a zoologist what the 4 small eyes below the primary two were for. They believe the inner two act like a compass while the outer two measure distance traveled so it can triangulate how to get back to it's burrow after hunting. Amazing! I see these in my basement and they don't bother me one bit because they will eat recluses and other pests while being pretty docile. They're amazing mothers also-giving their babies rides until they're old enough and it's been reported momma will even check on her newly weaned little ones. Apparently they get 'empty nest syndrome' as mother wolf spiders have been seen carrying cotton swabs as a surrogate egg sac. However the males have to be extra careful when mating much like tarantula males before momma makes a meal out of them.
I've started to overcome my fear of spiders thanks to this channel, but wolf spiders are very common in my area, I've had one dangle in my face, so I'm good.🙃 I understand every creature has a purpose...but I can't even look at them for too long or I'll cry🙃
It would be so cool if you could see the other end of the cork tunnel (like it goes us against the glass covered from the other side by a black sheet or something) so you could check and see how she’s going on the inside!

Ugh they are sooooo stinkin cuteeee! I totally agree we need more wolf spiders!
I grew up in a house that was FULL of these wolf spiders. They would get big too. They were what got me into spiders to begin with!
😮
I heard of a family in California that had to move out of their dream home because of wolf spiders. They couldn't get rid of them no matter what they did, the spiders would just come back with a vengeance. It was kinda creepy for sure.
Sand for texture!!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Wolf spiders are still one of the few species that scare the crap out of me. I’m hoping that will change by the end of this video! 🥰
LOVE YOU KAT!! Wolf spiders are gorgeous and so under appreciated ❤
I love wolf spiders thanks for raising awareness of them
I love watching you make the cribs it's very relaxing.
You're right Kat, wolf spiders are very underrated in the hobby. I have 2 hogna miami. Great spiders
Love the enclosure, she is pretty 😍
I wanted to say "you should have cut the cork round" but honestly I love how it broke. They way it broke is perfect for the natural theme of an enclosure. Love the enclosure. I've never thought of owning a Wold spider, I see them all the time and try to photograph them, but I always lose them in the leaves.
When you were putting the enclosure together I thought some pothos would look nice with the cork but your idea turned out even better I think. Also I think I speak for everyone when I say I live for the Bowser Breaks.
Wolf Spiders look fantastic. They really are amazing animals. I found a small specimen here in Australia and it has orange stripes on its back.
Oh my god I love the merch! The new witchy design is just mwah!
The enclosure looks fantastic! Maple is lucky to have ended up with you!
❤️
That's my favorite spider, the wolf spider! What a hunter!
I love them from afar... for now. Ty
That wolf spider looks stunning, wolf spiders deserve more appreciation.
Great Video!!! wolf spiders are dope.
Ooooh I love the cork rounds I hope your wolf spider loves her upgrade !!!! Happy spooky season Kat:)
I had a black and white corn snake in my pool last week. I saved her, thank goodness.
I recently caught a female wolf spider that decided my apartment looked like a good spot to have her egg sac, and this video is giving me so many ideas.
Wolf spiders are the brains of the spider world, very smart!
I Love Wolf Spiders, I rescued two in my home. She's pretty big though
Aww, I LOVE Wolfies! They are too stinkin adorable for their own good! 🥺
I got my wonderful Makeship order! It was even better in person! Thank you for a wonderful design!
We have a female Hogna. She was wild caught, they are such fun and active spiders to have.
Yesss I love my Hogna’s. Dare I say they are some of my all time favorites.
ouch 😰😥😢😭
He makes me smile so much
Bowser
That enclosure is like a Spider penthouse. So awesome! :)
Mark Rusher
My T aspera & I thank you! That looks like a great setup for Maple. 😊
Love when spiders go "free door!"
Plus her topmost eyes seem like eyebrows from the front xD
I always stop to admire the few giant wolf spiders I’ve seen in my yard. I wish I would see them a lot more. They’re so cool looking.
Awsome vidio thank you you have such great pets
As someone who can get creeped out handling most large spiders, I can say I never get that feeling with Wolf Spiders, they're eyes and mannerisms I find really charming.
nice to see spiders like the wolf spider getting some attention 🐺🕷️
(i keep parson spiders, they're really cool too)
You have a point… for somebody scared of spiders she is rather cute lol
I maintain that a lot of spiders have very cute faces when you get to see them close up, it's just that most of them either are too small to see their faces without magnification, or the bigger ones scare people off with their general body/leg shape before anybody bothers looking at their funny little face.
Hey Kat could you make a care video on wolf spiders!? 🕷
Hands down u won that competition feel like u came in to it with a solid plain and personified it to you I know how much you like those mushrooms 🍄 but I'd really enjoy seeing the 2 of u haveing more friendly compertishion like that mabe freemen encloshotor like Halloweens coming up I know it would be a must watch
Also thanks for letting me know about the discount code on your t spring really need a new hoody and really want it to be from your murch I show try take advantage of that
Enjoying what u do don't stop your doing grate
I love her… she’s precious!! ❤
They are soooooo cute!!!! I'm actually getting some predatory ground beetles!
So much more room for Activities
Please keep making these videos! As you said, there’s not a lot about wolf spider keeping on TH-cam so you’d be doing gods work🙇🏾♂️.
She's adorable 🥺
I’m genuinely trying to overcome my fear of spiders. I’m glad I found this channel because it helps a little.
Her eyes, aww
I love your enclosures so much!! They remind me of autumn and all things cozy, love love love!
I love Wolfies 🕷💕
I enjoyed this a lot!
Wolfie's are one of my favs, I'd like a white one.
It would be so cool if you could see the other end of the cork tunnel (like it goes us against the glass covered from the other side by a black sheet or something) so you could check and see how she’s going on the inside!
I already have two empty ones of these exact TC enclosures and I get my wolfies today! Thanks for the info ❤
how is the feeding? do you release a prey creature & let Maple stalk & pounce?
i freaking LOVE wolfies!! i'm hoping to keep a carolina wolfie girl some day 💜
