I used to come here when I was a child. Only place in NC where you can park in the middle of the street. But when the rubber company moved out the town withered away.
I have driven through Scotland Neck many, many times on my way from Virginia to Little Washington to visit my grandparents and other relatives in Williamston. It always seemed like a peaceful little town and had some pretty huge plantation type houses with big front porches there. It also seemed like not much was going on there anymore, just a sad, dying little southern town.
Pretty much the state of America but on a smaller scale. Some of the bigger cities and towns are going through the same degrading process but at a slower pace.
Thanks you for the tour! I used to visit Scotland Neck regularly in the 1990’s. So much of Main St. Is gone. Many of the buildings were destroyed by fire started in one spot and spreading to several neighbouring buildings. I do not recall ever seeing the bank open. Unfortunately, the town has died a slow death. A lot of the 2 and 3 story buildings on Main were only occupied on the first floor even back then, just so many more businesses have closed for good. Hosiery mill closed in the 90’s never re opened. I do remember though Main Street being quite busy and vibrant though. The Pittmans department store close, then re opened for a few years as a restaurant.
@@CHRISGRIZZARD The town should be getting some type of funding. But who knows where the money is going. People are voting but nothing is happening. You have to drive over 30 miles to a Walmart.
Thank you. Class of 75. I got the hell out, but I come and visit regularly.
My grandmother was from here I was there almost every summer as a child. The Epps family line was deep there.

This town is so close to the Atlantic Ocean - amazing is so empty.
I think I like the doorways the most on these old buildings.
Why can't people who have done better move back since the infrastructure is already there? any place can come up
