Loved your video! I’m going on april 2023 and want to do the same road trip, first night in fort william, next day depart early to see the train and that night we will stay in Portree, next day in inverness and our last day we are staying near the Edinburgh airport because we will take a plane to Amsterdam next day. I was worried I couldn’t see all the places I want to see in skye island but I can see in your video most of the places I want to visit 😊, may I ask how much did you spend in gas?
I am Scottish and I want to thank you for posting your beautiful advert for visiting Scotland, It is a lovely video. I enjoyed it very much. I think you were wise not to pay admission fees for all of the castles as they are not cheap. Blair Athol Castle was a good choice. I went on the steam train excursion over the “Harry Potter” bridge. I can highly recommend it, it is called The Jacobite Express and goes from Fort William to Mallaig. The thrill of the steam train chugging through the exquisite scenery has been described as the best train journey in the world.
Thank you so much for the kind words. We LOVED Scotland and can't wait to return...you live in a beautiful country! And yes, we already said next time we come we have to do the train, it looked like an amazing ride.
Hi, I’m planning to visit Scotland this winter in December end. How are the roads at that time of the year? Would you recommend a road-trip in December end? Thanks
Touring Scotland in December. The roads are mostly not a problem. If there is frost, they will be gritted. It can be very beautiful with snow covered mountains etc. If there is a lot of rain, it can be quite miserable driving in that. If it is just cold and clear it can be pleasurable. I would try and find some indoor activities. I think.most tourist attractions will be closed. Edinburgh is great anytime. Museums and art galleries are free. Some good ones in both Edinburgh and Glasgow. It is a very scenic country and there are many beautiful places. Plenty of restaurants and pub meals. I like the George hotel in Inveraray and the Drovers Inn Loch Lomond (over 300 years old) (google them) Also historic castles. . Hope that helps.
I can't believe you drove past Glenmore, Loch Morlich and Loch Insh! All are just off the road you would have used to get from Inverness to Pitlochry...there's a reindeer centre, stunning beaches... definitely come back and spend a week in the Cairngorms!
Can you write down all the places you stopped at and the names of the castles and trails? Also, how many nights did you stay in each of the hotels? We ara going to Scotland soon and also will have around 5 days and your itinerary seems perfect :)
That's so great to hear! Honestly, we were completely surprised by this trip. We had no idea Scotland would be so beautiful! Definitely a must-do destination!
I'm Scottish. I've been to all of these places. And still i watched your whole video and ended with an urge to visit Scotland. How lucky we are to live here. P.S you only scratched the surface of what's on offer here 😁
I thought I planned too many places for our scotland trip but you guys jam packed your 5 day vacation and it looked like the most magical trip. I am insanely excited. We leave next weekend! aaaah! And I'm actually excited to drive haha
What a great video of our country. Why? Because it was concise, not meandering. You want a flavour of what you get if you come to Scotland, its almost all here minus the stunning beaches . Thank you for a great job interesting video.
Ha ha I said the same thing to my wife when we went to Ireland and rented a manual 3 row SUV and spent most of the time driving rural Ireland. Manuals should be everywhere but it was tripping me out shifting with my left hand, and I was also leaning heavy to the left of the lane. And then there were the narrow rural roads, I get the sentiment! Thanks for the video. We're going to Scotland in spring 2025 it I'm just getting an automatic this time. Will use your video for ideas!
So excited to find your video! Going for a second trip next month. I highly recommend Celtic Legend for rentals (if you are from US) in the UK it’s called Arnold Clark- they are incredible! We have Blair castle on our list- excited to go! Just a note- we are renting an automatic car- manual cars are cheaper- but, to reduce anxiety I recommend upgrading to automatic. It was only $20 extra for the entire 10 days! I’ve driven manual over there the last trip- won’t ever do that again 😂
Parking spaces are notoriously small in the UK. we Brits find that annoying too. Really cool video of Scotland and you are right, the weather is very variable. 🙂
I'm sorry that you only had 5 days there. We leave for a three week tour in the middle of August and will follow part of your route. Thanks for the tip about hugging the left. We purchased a Historical Scotland Pass so all the admissions are free (the Pass wasn't) - one still has to reserve ahead of time for some of the most popular places. We will have 5 days just on Skye. We are also going to Orkney and Lewis which I've heard are not to be missed. Yes, the gas price will be ouchy. Thanks for doing the video. I see by the comments that you have several people now thinking of visiting there.
Orkney has no trees, that means it’s very windy. The Isle of Arran is nice, it’s called Scotland in miniature, rugged alpine ish north, pastoral south.
Loved your video....I recognized all these places....Scotland is extraordinary in any single way possible...Like my second home from around 4 years now....Fishing is a must do, also.....I really can't wait to see it again in May!!!
First, thanks for posting the video. I’m learning more and more about Scotland. I am in the planning process of a two week trip to Scotland in 2024. This will be a trip to celebrate our 40th anniversary. I want to drive this time as in the past we were part of a tour bus group and cruise ship, which gave us a thumbnail idea of the various locations to see. Q: When wanting to visit various locations like castles etc. where do you go for tickets? Is there an online source? Do you have to pre-purchase tickets for each location or is there a source for purchasing for several locations? Thanks again and look forward to future videos.
@@shugacookie45 it was amazing, thanks for asking! Isle of Skye was stunning but Edinburgh Hogmanay was a huge disappointment unfortunately. Highly recommended doing this road trip! Almost on par with the Canadian Rockies if the weather was a bit better.

Your video was beautiful! I lived in Scotland in the mid to late 80s and return annually in Autumn when the world isn't frozen. One bit of advice would be to learn proper pronunciation of places, castles, etc. I cringed a bit on some but understand you are new to the country of my heart. I had to learn pronunciation too.
