    I know a guy who has been married 4 times and he is the loveliest bloke, never goes looking for love but always gets found, usually by an attractive woman with underlying issues that soon develop. I missed his last wedding, sent a note saying sorry “see you at the next one”.

    i have driven a small boat 1-2 times. so not much experience at all. but even i know, when you approach something (lock, mooring,..) you do it slowly. a boat has momentum, you can not stop it like a car. i think some people forget (or don't know) that.

    • @NarrowboatSuperB
      @NarrowboatSuperB  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is all it takes, slow down, drop into neutral then a quick burst of reverse.

    • @pain_weaver
      @pain_weaver ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can stop a boat quick. But it's not a good option. I once came into a dock dead of night. I was going very slow. The dock was about 2 inches away my friend was impressed. Put it in gear take it out. Rinse repeat. Slow and steady. Rule #1 of boating. Don't rush. And rule #2 don't let anyone else rush you. Focus on the task until the engine is cut. 👍
      BTW reverse does act like a break. I almost got thrown from a boat cause I wasn't ready for it but knew it was coming.

      @yvonnewalesuk8035 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @x5x, that's because you were brought up to 'think' intelligently about consequences (to others as well as yourself) before you act. Unfortunately, you're up against too many folk who were dragged up to think only of themselves.

    It always amazes me how new/novice boaters don't get that boats do not handle like automobiles. hull weight & speed, current, wind, engine power, how a rudder works, traffic, and waterway clearance all seem to be items out of the chapter that they didn't bother to read. Throw in a little alcohol and an attitude of entitlement and it is a very good thing that the UK has better control over privately owned firearms than the US.

    Maximum steering without wasted flow is achieved by
    goin back to tick over,
    centre tiller,
    then up the throttle wait half a second or a second then push the churn if its easy to push tiller then you pushed too early.
    If you just hold it full tilt its clearly pushing churn both ways if you look back at the churn.
    So from full tilt at high revs go back to tik over push tiller back to centre up throttle wait a second then turn the churn
    You can repeat this and your turn will be much more turn and less forward wasted energy

      The boat hasn't mounted the lock gate; its through it by a good 10 feet and gate is open. So whilst the boat was partially out of the lock, someone has opened the bottom paddles and drained the water out of the lock and the pound above, though why anyone would want to do this on purpose is beyond me! However, I did once have half a sheep stuck on the prop and had to go into a lock heading 'downhill', get the boat stuck on the cill and drain a bit of water out of the lock, then attack the sheep whilst standing on top of the cill. All in all, not one of the most pleasent episodes in my life!!😁

Money definitely doesn't buy brains or manners.

      There's quite a few on the Solent. It seems a common occurrence that someone in a big Sunseeker will deliberately power close past sailing boats just to send everyone on board flying with their wake!
      Had that happen to me on the same day as witnessing another one playing unintentional bumper cars with the other boats in the marina!

    Slow down and reduce steerage when passing oncoming traffic shows his lack of knowledge. Revs and water flowing past the rudder is a must to maintain good steerage. Wait until you try that slowing down trick when navigating past large moving vessels!
