I was trying not to show my life too much since this idea always sticks to my head . My priority is to give you useful and delicious recipes! Do you guys like this vlog type of video? or prefer usual recipe type? I'm so happy to share my life with you though^^ I feel a little closer to you! Thank you for watching!
Thank you for sharing these authentic moments. In some way it makes me feel better to know your kids reject some aspects of your cooking too! My daughter hates mushrooms and always makes me pick them out lol! She also does not like miso but my husband is Japanese and we eat miso soup everyday! I have to just give her broth lol!
You daughter knows what the umami taste is! I think it's a great start! I also understand your feeling that it would be nice to share the same thing with whole family together though! We will get there eventually as kids grow!^^thank you for sharing!!
I love your videos cause you show ur life and show your faces. It’s really weird watching other Japanese TH-camrs that don’t show their face, it’s harder to connect with people that way. I love all ur vegan recipes and they have given me ideas on what to make. Thank you for sharing your life with us!!! ❤️❤️
Even though I never saw your face, somehow making these type of video makes me feel closer to you too Melissa, especially by reading these kind comment! Thank you for this!!
I’m laughing about one of your boys saying “no,” my oldest kid is the same way and with her I give a countdown (“Five minutes until dinner”) so she can prepare herself and knows my expectations. This is tougher for my husband to be consistent with only because I was a teacher for 10+ years and it just comes natural to me 😊 Thank you for sharing the recipes and glimpse into your daily life
In the spring I will upload videos of the progress. I feel bad that I have only a few pictures and videos of my hens. I will make a compilation of them soon.
Thank you so much for these videos, Miwa! I struggle a lot with disordered eating and portioning food, these videos really help me to cook dishes I love and repair my relationship with foods.
I'm glad to hear you had something to take out from this video. thank you for sharing and hoping you will enjoy cooking and eating in a way you truly embrace!
You always give me so many wonderful soup ideas! I really appreciate it, especially as we head into winter. I love you when you show us your daily life too ❤️
I love this type of video where you share your family life with us. Thank you. I don't get to watch you as often as I would like to. I'm looking forward to your cookbook. ☺
Miwa, I love your channe! I think that if you don’t focus so heavily on the fact that you are a mom feeding two small boys your channel would grow more. I say this bc you offer so much that is not focused on feeding small children. Your recipes and nutrition information is so extremely valuable for us. I do love seeing your boys and including them! I say this bc you introduce yourself as a mom with two small boys. You are so much more, Miwa! I hope I haven’t been too forward but that’s an American born and raised in the north for you. I apologize if I have been but I adore you, Miwa, and wanted to tell you how awesome you are and how irreplaceable you are to me for your recipes and nutrition information. I won’t forget to say that your personality and beauty are very enjoyable, too. Thank you, Miwa!
Hi Miwa! I loved to see the precious family moments in this video. In the US an event when the school is open to parents is called “open house;” I wonder how it is different elsewhere? Also, my whole family doesn’t like whole wheat spaghetti, but everyone (including my 2 year old son) likes whole wheat pasta that is a different kind, like penne or elbow macaroni. These kinds are softer and less sticky, and they absorb sauce somewhat easier. Thank you for the video!
I enjoyed the video so much , had me laughing 😂, kids are so adorable and honest 😂❤️. You should make more videos like this.. my kids are into adulthood now but when I have them over for a pasta meal, whole grain has not been a problem 😅. I’m sure your little ones will develop a taste at some point in life❤️.. keep up the good work, you are doing amazing 🌟
I came across your channel today looking for new ideas for Thanksgiving side dishes; I always do traditional Turkey, Brussels Sprouts, Au Gratin Potatoes, etc. but each year I look for one new and random mystery side to include for fun and your Fall season videos have been a great insight and given me some inspiration!
I am happy to have found your channel. We also have two kids, age 5 & 3. They are eating well, but they didn’t like whole grain pasta either. I enjoy learning your healthy and wholesome way of cooking, and what to buy. We just moved to Okinawa two months ago from the US. I love shopping at the grocery store but I don’t know most of the products, and your videos are helping me learn and take risks.
Working with you sounds like so much fun! We moved from Japan to the UK last fall, so now we're trying to figure out how to keep our Japanese cooking style in a different country.
oh really?!! please join in the team in the future! I'm actually expanding my team member this year! ^^ haha I know how hard it would be to keep cooking style in UK! but if you are living in city, probably the ingredients should be available for you^^
Wow, that purple sweater is so beautiful. I live alone in a tiny apartment with a desk, a stove and a bed, and even here it gets dirty although I sweep through multiple times a week, don't know how that works ... I'm really looking forward to your cookbook! I think it might be a more practical one because at least in your videos you tend to stick to certain ingredients. Many cookbooks ask us to buy an expensive ingredient and then I'll never use it again after one recipe.
haha!! I'm relived to hear that I'm not the only one who get the entrance so dirty.... I think the book is very practical! I tried to keep it simple!!^^ thank you for your kind word!!
thank you so much for sharing authenic Japanese dishes with us & making them vegan. Japanese food is my favorite cusine; so excited to try your recipies c:
We have a brand in Canada - not sure where else they sell it internationally, called ‘Go Go Quinoa’ - they make a quinoa cauliflower pasta and a quinoa lentil pasta, my 2 year old loves them both!
Hi Miwa-san…..I really loved this video with you and your 2 boys. This is the real life of being a Mom. I love that you take the time to make yourself a proper breakfast after your husband and boys have left the house. I love whole wheat pasta as I enjoy the chewy texture. My kids don’t care for it though. I think because they are so used to eating regular pasta and whole wheat pasta only has been available in the supermarket for the past 5 or so years. I remember when my kids were picky eaters. My son used to hate black pepper and he would actually try to pick out any black specks he saw in his food lol. I also remember my daughter didn’t like to eat curry because she said it looked like poo. Well now she’s an adult with a 14 month old daughter and LOVES to eat curry. Their tastes change as they get older. I’m eagerly waiting for your cookbook…kio tsukete 🙌🏼😊🇨🇦
Thank you for sharing your life, Miwa. You're so lovely and nice, and your boys are so cute. It's always interesting to see what meals you're making, and what your daily life is like. My children are teenagers now, but my daughter still does not like mushrooms. You've reminded me to eat MORE VEGETABLES lol Have a great day!
Thank you very much for your kind word Karen! I'm making this type of video for someone like you who has been talking to me for a while. it's always nice to get to know each other a little more than just recipe! ^^
Pasta. I have switched to a chickpea pasta. It has more Protein. My family likes. It is by Barilla. It comes in Ll different shapes. The spiral my favorite. I live in America. We eat a lot of Ramen. So we have all Japanese noodles too .We experiment a lot with foods. The boys are so cute!!!
ahhh last year of kinderkarten, hope it will be a great year! I have limited screantime for my daughter as well, sometimes she watches something, sometimes she plays the old pokemon game on my old gameboy. I made a similar rice bowl but no natto; I had some sashimi tuna so I mixed that with avocado and kimchi. I think that mushroom mix will go great if you mix it with cooked potato instead of meat to make korokke. If you chop it finely maybe the boys will eat it as well :) Banana with tahini... never had that I usually top it with kinako but I'll try the tahini when I have bananas again. We usually eat regular pasta, but my daughter eats anything. We have pasta made with chickpeas, peas etc and she eats it all. O I saw my daughter's favorite anime furikake, the pretty cure one hahaha If you ever need some help or advise you can ask me :) I might not be able to help fulltime but if I can help you with something just let me know.
awwww so many similarities!! I knew it!! haha so many girl in his kindergarten love pretty cure too!! you guys definitely should visit here^^ Thank you so much for your kind word!! it means soso much Tamara!
I have just found your channel and I am loving it. I am trying to add many Japanese dishes to my daily life. I noticed in this video you said you had no make up on, you are very beautiful and have glowing skin. I know it’s not recipes but I would be very interested in learning about your skin care routines. I look forward to watching many more of your videos. 😊
Thank you for such a charming video, the food looks very tasty and it was a nice glimpse into your life :) you’ve inspired me to eat miso soup more often, it’s so good to have warm soup now that it’s getting cold here in Sweden. If you want a good show to watch with your kids, I highly recommend one called “Chi’s sweet home” (sorry, don’t know the original Japanese name for it), it’s about a family that adopts a kitten named Chi. It’s good for kids and adults, very cute, often funny.
Thank you for these insights. I love Natto !! I have to search for it here in London - not many shops sell it. But that is fun, to explore asian food stores discovering new foods that I have been inspired to try by your channel. Hello from the UK and stay positive : - )
Miwa San! Your boys are so cute, I have the same problem with my girls and mushrooms too😫 I love this style of videos🥰 I never tried avocados with natto, it looks delicious 😋 and I will have to try the pasta for sure. Thank you always for the delicious ideas!
Hi, I am always to excited watching your vlogs. I find Japanese food so interesting. I wanted to know how natto taste. I so intrigued with Japanese food. It could quite expensive here in Phililippines.
Aaah. You're right changing out of pajamas in morning helps me too. I should go put some proper clothes on. My youngest doesn't like whole wheat pasta. If you want it for health reasons you can mix in a 1/4 or something like that with normal pasta, the whole wheat pasta does take longer to cook so I put it in first. (might still not work though)
just found your channel today. I can't wait to try your recipes. so much more healthy than the USA "breakfast" Love how you speak English than Japanese It makes me feel like you want us to feel right at home with you in the kitchen .
Hi Miwa c: I really enjoyed this video, not only for the recipes but also because it seems so genuine. You can share as much or as little as you like from your personal life, either way i will enjoy it ^^ I am not sure, if you ever said it but why do your kids don't like mushrooms? Is it the texture/flavour? Do they not like any type of mushroom?
In South Africa where we grow the rooibos tea, we pronounce it 'roy-boss'. Don't worry too much about pronunciation because as soon as you said the word I knew what tea you were drinking! I like drinking kuwa matcha with oat milk.
:-) i'm very excited and happy for you that you are now able to make your own cookbook :-D and OMG i want the pokemon sweets too (me... a 36y old Pokemon nerd)
Thank you very much for sharing yr recipes! Much appreciation fr Singapore! Really enjoy learning watching the videos , just like learning fr an old frd as the mths go by. Mke MY day ! Can you share how to prepare grilled Salmon with Miso paste, pls ? Tk you - Arigatogozaimase !
Hi Miwa! Thank you for making another vegan video! Just a heads up, most kimchi in Japan is not vegan because it has shrimp and/or fish :( I have to make it myself! ちょっと面倒くさいなんですけど、、、
When I was young, I didn't like whole grain pasta very much, haha. It was better in a tomato sauce, or something with a stronger flavor. It was worse in butter or cream, but I think the acid of the tomato helped hide the flavor I didn't like.
I like whole grain pasta, but it depends on which pasta. I like it with spaghetti, but not if I want to make something like macaroni and cheese (which I rarely make as it's too addictive lol). I also prefer white pasta for Alfredo, I think because the thicker noodles are the wrong texture for me, to go with creamy Alfredo sauce. But I don't make Alfredo often for the same reason (haha), so mostly I use whole grain spaghetti noodles.
What do the kids entertain themselves with while you cook?! How much screens do Japanese kids watch? Love the videos especially balancing how much food and physical activity. This would really help us Americans.
Hello Miwa, your pasta dish looks so delicious. I would love to make it some time. You asked about the pasta that I use, I live in Canada but I am of Italian descent. Traditionally, in Italy and in most Italian households, we do not use the whole wheat pasta but the regular white duram wheat semolina pasta. I do not know if you can get this brand in Japan but DeCecco is a very good quality pasta to use. I very much love your channel and the Japanese dishes that you show how to cook. You have taught me how to make very wonderful miso soup, which I love so much, and I am very grateful and thankful to you. I would love to share some of my Italian recipes with you and have you share some of your Japanese recipes with me. Thank you so much… Kindly, Peter
Your family is adorable! You are beautiful without makeup. Why do you even put it on? When my kids were little like yours, I was a little more strict with them. They knew play time was over when dinner was on the table. Even if they didn't like the food they had to sit at the dinner table until everyone was done. They eat everything now. They are boy25, girl20, girl16. I was married at 17 and had our son at 20. He is a pilot at Anerican Airlines now. Time seems to just FLY. 😁
In my experience picky eaters don't like whole wheat pasta as much because the texture is so different. Try breaking the pasta into short pieces and cook it a little more than usual :)
i love this video Miwa ! i love the bloopers ( you always keep it real ! ) and i like your creamy pasta recipe . The tea is called Rooibos tea : th-cam.com/video/1Kfd5oUn5lE/w-d-xo.html ( how to pronounce it ) Great video !
I don’t like the texture of whole wheat pasta. I found them take forever to cook. I don’t mind brown rice pasta though. It’s quite tasty. I’m curious how does the miso taste like with tomato sauce?
I'm not a dietitian so I can't advise anything on this topic, sorry!!! But I remember my great grandma was eating traditional Japanese meals like bowls of rice, soup, one side ( pickles etc). Not much oil, eat just a small portion each time. She also enjoyed green tea after the meal . She lived by herself until she was 95 years old. I adore her.
Was the tea Rooibos? If so it is pronounced roy-bows or roy-buhs. When I say it it usually comes out as roy-bis. XD Thank you for sharing your life, I enjoy all of your videos. Oh also, with the mushrooms and kids, usually if you chop them up into tiny pieces they can't even recognize it as a mushroom so they will eat it. They'll think it is a ground meat or something.
yes! It's the Rooibos tea! haha thank you for teaching me this! for the mushroom, I did the same thing for mine and they still detected the mushrooms😂Because it's chopped into small pieces, I couldn't take it out any more!!haha this was a long time ago, so I'll give it a go again!! thank you!
I don't think there's any single form to food and nutrition for children. For example when I was a child I did not like peas because they created the vomit-gag reaction or at least the feeling if not the reflex. Of course being young I could not communicate any of that even to myself let alone adults who insisted I eat "my peas!" Well fast-forward and realize I have an aversion to Legumes (probably due to Lectins in this food group unless treated). So children might be telling important information if they do not like a given food. But equally, when I was helping to raise my relatives children, the "secret ingredient" tended to be "hunger!" from exercise and activity as well as avoiding foods that ruin the taste buds eg sugar and sweets. It is good to see the children eating healthy meals and with delicious flavours also. I entirely agree about fermented foods, a relatively new discovery to me. As for pasta, it should be relatively easy and simple on the digestion system. If the children do not like pasta alone, have you tried Ravioli (with different fillings and find one filling they like)? I remember preferring Raviola to plain pasta as it had more taste and the pasta felt thinner/softer/lighter so the texture did not put me off when I was very young. That could work?
thank you so much for lots of great information!! I've never tried Ravioli before. It sounds very yummy and tempting!! I'll check the supermarket! Thank you!!
In South Africa where rooibos is from, it's pronounced "roy" like in the word "royal", and "boss" like...well "boss" like at work lol. Also, I'm interested in working with you, if I have a skill set that you would find useful. :)
thank you for teaching me a pronunciation!! So easy to understand! It's a different story if I can say that correctly though! haha woooo.... I'll definitely announce you here once I'm big enough to pay you!! that would be so much fun to work with someone who has been watching my video for a long time!
@@MiwasJapaneseCooking Yes, I can see how "roy" would be difficult, let alone "royal"! Just remember that the "R" sound is with the tongue NOT touching the roof on the mouth, and the "L" sound is WITH the tongue touching the roof of the mouth.

I can't wait for your cookbook, Miwa! When do you think it'll be ready? xxoo
hopefully around Christmas time!! thank you for asking🙏😆
What a wholesome video! ❤❤❤
My fave moment: 9:47
Wish I can master Japanese like you've mastered the English language..,
haha! really?!! you will soon be better
than me! but it's hard!!😂thank you for sharing David!
Thank you for these insights. I love Natto !! I have to search for it here in London - not many shops sell it. But that is fun, to explore asian food stores discovering new foods that I have been inspired to try by your channel. Hello from the UK and stay positive : - )
Miwa San! Your boys are so cute, I have the same problem with my girls and mushrooms too😫 I love this style of videos🥰
I never tried avocados with natto, it looks delicious 😋 and I will have to try the pasta for sure. Thank you always for the delicious ideas!
Thank you Mika-san!! your girls will love pasta!! Just buy in supermarket! it makes it so much easier I think! haha
My daughter loves wholegrain pasta! She even likes to eat it without any sauce 😁😊
And I love your videos😍👍
wow!! She is good!!! I'll try to give them more, so they might get used to it like your little one! Thank you for sharing!
Hi, I am always to excited watching your vlogs. I find Japanese food so interesting. I wanted to know how natto taste. I so intrigued with Japanese food. It could quite expensive here in Phililippines.
Your English is perfectly understandable!!
Thank you Miwa. Great vegetarian food, it’s good for me since I have a problem with my kidney.
Hi Miwa c: I really enjoyed this video, not only for the recipes but also because it seems so genuine. You can share as much or as little as you like from your personal life, either way i will enjoy it ^^
I am not sure, if you ever said it but why do your kids don't like mushrooms? Is it the texture/flavour? Do they not like any type of mushroom?
I wish you much success in your business!
Thank you so much for your kind word EmPi!!😊
In South Africa where we grow the rooibos tea, we pronounce it 'roy-boss'. Don't worry too much about pronunciation because as soon as you said the word I knew what tea you were drinking!
I like drinking kuwa matcha with oat milk.
:-) i'm very excited and happy for you that you are now able to make your own cookbook :-D
and OMG i want the pokemon sweets too (me... a 36y old Pokemon nerd)
I also have a five year old with strong food opinions. I enjoyed this video :) ありがとうございました!
haha! Sara!! WE are on the same boat!!
Hi Miwa! Thank you for making another vegan video! Just a heads up, most kimchi in Japan is not vegan because it has shrimp and/or fish :( I have to make it myself! ちょっと面倒くさいなんですけど、、、
My daughter is 26 and is just starting to like mushrooms- enoki mushrooms - which I think is an odd first mushroom to like!
I just have to wait until kids naturally pick up them^^ thank you for sharing!!
When I was young, I didn't like whole grain pasta very much, haha. It was better in a tomato sauce, or something with a stronger flavor. It was worse in butter or cream, but I think the acid of the tomato helped hide the flavor I didn't like.
Thank you for letting me know your tips on whole grain pasta! I will try wth tomato sauce !!!
I didn't know what the Alfredo is until you just mentioned it now! haha
Thank you for teaching me new thing!!!
Love both but really appreciate traditional recipes
YOU ARE AMAZING. INSPIRATIONAL
Your English is good , keep going 👍
I miss the stores in japan so much!!
No ideas on the whole grain pasta. They either like it or they do not. Have you tried tricolor pasta. I do not know if it is available in japan
I've never heard of it.... i need to look it up!! Thank you for sharing!!!^^
I prefer plain and not whole wheat pasta. I suspect it's just what I'm accustomed to.
In my experience picky eaters don't like whole wheat pasta as much because the texture is so different. Try breaking the pasta into short pieces and cook it a little more than usual :)
Miwa you should continue speaking English with your kids more often, an extra language will benefit them so much in future! Like how it is for you! 😍👍
What do you think of staying keto and intermediate fast?
Could you show us some of the desserts that you make sometimes. Thanks:)
Hi from south Africa. Love watching your videos it's so inspiring. Please do some videos on how you prepare fish dishes.
thank you!! I'll pencil fish on my list^^
Hi Miwa can you make pickled radish or something please. I was gonna say ginger but it’s expensive in Canada so radish might be the cheaper option.
i love this video Miwa ! i love the bloopers ( you always keep it real ! ) and i like your creamy pasta recipe . The tea is called Rooibos tea :
th-cam.com/video/1Kfd5oUn5lE/w-d-xo.html ( how to pronounce it ) Great video !
I knew you like this type Ares😁😁you are the one who taught me be myself🙌
@@MiwasJapaneseCooking 😀
I don’t like the texture of whole wheat pasta. I found them take forever to cook. I don’t mind brown rice pasta though. It’s quite tasty. I’m curious how does the miso taste like with tomato sauce?
You actually don't taste that much miso. it will deepen the flavor together with saltiness. I hope you will give it a try sometime!^^
You are amazing 🥰
I'm not a dietitian so I can't advise anything on this topic, sorry!!! But I remember my great grandma was eating traditional Japanese meals like bowls of rice, soup, one side ( pickles etc). Not much oil, eat just a small portion each time. She also enjoyed green tea after the meal .
She lived by herself until she was 95 years old. I adore her.
ローイボス
The u at the end of su is silent! I hope this helps! 😁
I love the vlog style videos. I'm always interested in seeing other people's lives, especially in other countries. Thanks for your videos!
I'm glad to hear this! Thank you very much for your kind word!!!
Loved when you forgot how to explain in english !! Keep doing part of your videos in japanese pleaseee
I would love to!! I can be more myself too😁😁
I like the taste of the whole grain pasta.
I've been told to pronounce rooibos as "roy boss". Some Afrikaners roll the r, but I struggle to do that!
Roll the r sounds tough!! haha
Thank you for teaching me this!!^^
💕💕💕 love!
Thank you !!!!^^
Was the tea Rooibos? If so it is pronounced roy-bows or roy-buhs. When I say it it usually comes out as roy-bis. XD Thank you for sharing your life, I enjoy all of your videos. Oh also, with the mushrooms and kids, usually if you chop them up into tiny pieces they can't even recognize it as a mushroom so they will eat it. They'll think it is a ground meat or something.
yes! It's the Rooibos tea! haha
thank you for teaching me this!
for the mushroom, I did the same thing for mine and they still detected the mushrooms😂Because it's chopped into small pieces, I couldn't take it out any more!!haha
this was a long time ago, so I'll give it a go again!!
Thank you!!
I know this video is a couple years old now but often times when people crave ice cubes it's because they have an iron deficiency.
It's a different story if I can say that correctly though! haha
woooo....
