every movie, every film and show is an experiment, MCU after Endgame has shown that they know this very well and have consistently tried many things, sometimes it works and not at times.
Good video Good movie, I’ve liked it better than all the entries of the last phase - but I do feel bad that the team up hallway fight kills a bunch of experiments that half the movie is about following rockets past, killing them is like killing rocket, floor or liya. I can forgive mantis not wanting to use her powers on peter in act 1 but doing it on draxx in act 3, that’s a joke not a whole theme for the film.🦝🦦🐇 This might be Draco’s last film, wish he had more drama and less comedy but I like where they leave him in knowhere. The gotg video game did a better job fleshing out his dead family.
@@wolfhawk1999Most of the marvel movies I’ve seen since endgame won’t even touch my top 10 but both The Batman from DC last year and GOTG3 both reach my top 10
I’ll never get over Rocket’s scream when Lylla dies. It’s absolutely gut wrenching and raw and heartbreaking. And when the High Revolutionary starts mocking him, it solidified him as arguably the most hated villain in all the MCU
I like how the entire plot of the movie isn't about saving the universe from a world ending scenario or your usual "Avengers level threat." It's really just the Guardians trying to save the life of one of their own which opens up a deeper can of worms from there on out. The plot can't get anymore character-driven than that and I appreciate it. Usually third and final entries like this would go bigger in terms of scale and stakes, but not this one. It feels more personal and more grounded, and that just feels special. A special way to end a special trilogy.
Pretty much, even Quill gets self-aware at a point, mocking the High Evo every time they meet; he faced Ronan, EGO, Thanos, this is just another pathetic a-hole with a god complex, and they already faced WORSE.
@@Jose-se9pu and Gamora tells quill that he is too powerful 💀. I mean bruh this quill has seen and done shit and made the universe extent because of your other self who died
Vol. 2 was partly about Rocket accepting that his new family loves him unconditionally, and Vol. 3 shows just how far they are willing to go for him. The entire plot is driven by the love everyone has for a character who always considered himself unloveable.
Seeing Nebula break down after hearing Rocket's voice absolutely broke me. I'm not a very emotional person, but I can't put into words what came over me
When rocket was going to save the raccoons amd saw that he infact, was a raccoon.. Idk why, but that felt beautiful. The entire movie is so heartbreaking.
Ok, but seriously, that was so good because Quill has been calling him by the correct name this whole time. I like to imagine that this fact registers with Rocket, and it fills him with emotion knowing that his friend wasn’t just insulting him this whole time.
When you put it that way it’s almost like an ‘acceptance’ of his trauma. Denying he was a raccoon was kind of like denying his past. “I’m not a raccoon, this didn’t happen to me, this wasn’t who I was” It isn’t until he revisits this place that has been haunting him and confronts his past that he can say, “yes, these horrible things did happen to me, yes I came from this awful place. But there was joy there too that was worth fighting for. I’m not an experiment, I’m not a number. I’m Rocket Raccoon”
Floor yelling at Rocket; "Rocket, Teeth, Floor go now!" is so effing haunting. CGI animal or not, it's the sound of an innocent child terrified out of her mind. Mad props to the voice actor.
yes this. especially about half way through that scene, utter panic from Floor right there. utter fucking chaos all around and the poor child rabbit screaming in terror while knowing she can't do a dam thing.
I was bawling my eyes out during that moment! And when Lylla said but not yet, my tears of sadness became tears of joy and I got up in my seat with a smile on my face saying in my head (Lets go Rocket!)
"A love letter to the abused" Damn, that part really hit hard. These days, many stories try to make the audience sympathize with the villain and then forget or devalue the hurt they put others through. Their victims either have to get over it or they're "overreacting" for the sake of the villain's arc. Then when the hero messes up there is no room for redemption.
Yes!! Well said. That stood out to me that for once there was NO reason to sympathize with the villain and it was refreshing and felt balanced. Evil should not be justified.
The High Evolutionary is a great representation of how an abusive dynamic punishes success and failure, and how you are only as valuable as you are useful. It's a message and behavior pattern that creates broken people that learn to either give up, or perpetrate. Truly escaping that looks like being able to love and accept yourself as you are, breaking codependent patterns, making and enforcing strong boundaries, and living in defiance of the broken systems we grew up in. It's a painful, but rewarding experience, and it is so well reflected over the course of the Guardians films, especially the nonlinear process of progress. Take care, much love y'all.
The flashbacks scenes were generally hard to watch. It's kind of like a jumpscare, but good. You're expecting something terrible to happen, so Gunn just makes them so likable, you just dread it more and more.
@Caitlyn Carvalho it's not pro vegan, it's anti animal cruelty. it would be pro vegan if it was about turning animals into food, but it's about unethical experiments on animals
@caitlyncarvalho7637 That's the thing about PETA, they aren't really pro animal. They're anti human. There are hundreds and hundreds of cases of PETA kidnapping peoples pets and killing them because in their view, its better their dead than a human slave. Makes me sick just typing this.
Can’t believe James Gunn has now made me cry 3 movies in a row over a cgi raccoon, a tree alien, a green assassin, a mantis woman, a killer dad and a sad man from Missouri
For real. GoTG1 broke me when visions of Quill's late mom flashes to his mind. GoTG2 broke me when Yondu comforted Quill one last time before dying. GoTG3 broke me when Lylla died, Rocket almost begging to come with his friends, Quill in denial over Rocket flatlining, Quill and Groot hugging Rocket, and Rocket seeing baby raccoons.
Baby Rocket trembling in anguish only able to barely mutter the word "hurts" is literally one of the most soul-crushing things I have ever experienced, I actually felt violated.
@@EyesTorti only by it being as sad as it is can you truly understand what makes Rocket Raccoon who he is. this movie punches the viewer to the flor and kicks you round the room, then lets you get up and punches you to the floor again, then the one getting punched and kicked picks themselves up, looks their abuser in the eye and takes the control from their abuser, taking ownership of his name and himself. "the name's Rocket, Rocket Raccoon." *drops mic so hard.* now i've seen the movie, i agree even more with my own comment, if that's not a bad thing to say. poor rocket, Teefs and Floor. and it's significant that, during the flashback before rocket says, "i'm done runnin'", he sees Flor's body in his mind's eye. i think he feels as much guilt about her death as he does Lylla's, if not more. if he didn't, why think of Floor and not Lylla when mentally summing up his reasons for going into aret labratories? Rocket had a special relationship with Floor the rabbit. they were cage mates, she would curl up with him, I think he felt extra protective of her.
My favorite part about this movie is that they didn’t spend half of the movie setting up another project. It spent it telling a story, as all of these movies should.
@@abates17The entirety of Quantumania existed to set up Kang and the multiverse. I like the Ant-Man movies, how small scale and cute they are even if they arent that great. But the third is easily the worst because it doesnt even bother to focus on its own characters
@@theRagingGlory Kang was the villain of the movie, and he died at the end. The multiverse wasn’t mentioned in the entire movie. It was entirely about a standalone villain.
I think the reason that these characters are so funny to everyone is that they're not TRYING to be funny, like everyone else in the MCU. They just truly do not realize that their characteristics and customs are hilarious to everyone else, because they're all so different. Drax trying to lay on the couch had me in STITCHES. I swear that man is the funniest character in all of cinema
It is very rare that I cry during a film. I cried 3 times in this and the last 5 minutes I was in absolute shambles. 10/10 I cannot wait to see what James Gunn does with DC
Lemme guess: first you cried when everyone thought Rocket died and he was talking to Lylla in his mind 2nd, when Rocket saved the little Racoons with the device he made to save his friends in a similar situation and last you cried in the end while everyone was dancing.
@@ItsMrE.K. VERY close! I teared up when Lyla was shot and Rocket screamed. I straight up cried like a child when he saved the Raccoons And was just gone when everyone was dancing at the end
Considering that that was literally the only reality in which they ultimately beat Thanos, it's hard to blame him. It was a necessary part of the course of events.
@@jculver1674 Yeah I’m still calling bs on that plotline. So much bs. It’s literally just the producers going “source? Bro, just trust me” and raising the stakes in a cheap way
Crazy how James Gunn made a Son of a Living Planet, a Talking Tree, a Cybernetic Animal, a Bug-like Telepath, a Murderous Alien Woman, A Nearly Entirely Artificial Daughter of a Titan and a Alien Destroyer, feel more human than any human characters in The MCU. Incredible Filmmaker.
Not sure I'd say that. Iron Man, Captain America, Black Panther (T'challa, not his stupid little sister!) and of course, Spider-Man are all very human too. If nothing else, it's hard to say that Spider-Man is any less human in terms of "feel" than the Guardians.
@@Aristocles22 To be quite fair of all new gen characters Shuri always had some of the most personality, she already did have that personality in Black Panther and was introduced with it. Like hate on Ironheart She-hulk they don’t have flaws, they absolutely suck, but Shuri was the one character of that gen with some character development. You know she was just the bratty princess, but she was also shown to dislike being given royal duties, she was shown as disliking of rituals (like the Black Panther ceremony) Next to that her being closer in personality to killmonger (I think that was the name of the villain Micheal B. Jordan played) bc of her like internalised want for revenge for her brothers death was a well done scene. I’d say she had more character development than T’challa Which say all you want abt him he was always perfect, he didn’t have flaws he had to overcome

@@Aristocles22 Shuri had a really good character arc in wakanda forever, of course the plot line is messy and bs at times, but her arc was interesting to follow.
If I had to describe the scene where Lila died, I would call it horrifying. Each of the characters were having very realistic reactions to a traumatic experience and it was so overstimulating - but not in a bad way - it just left me so terrified. Witnessing abuse as it was happening
I love how we all basically knew that Rocket's friends were gonna die, but Gunn didn't try to make us think otherwise. He wanted us to not want it to happen. To see a baby Rocket smile, laugh and play with his friends one last time before it was taken away. And when it was taken away it was done in the most brilliant, but depressing and heartbreakibg scene. Man, what a movie. What a filmmaker.
That scream was gut wrenching. Holy crap. Bradley Cooper destoryed me there. I never came close to crying while watching an MCU movie until that scene.
I love how this movie feels so contained and focused, no unescesary references to the mcu or cameos, no crazy sub-plots that distracted from the story, it's basically about rocket, and Rocket almost dying is what made the guardians open up to each other with sincerity while on this journey to rescue him. I loved how they got all the chatecters to be in a porpusfull story.
Quill briefly mentions the Thanos snap and Gamora’s death from Infinity War, and I think that was about it for other MCU film references. I also love how this film made sure to simply be its own thing as a GOTG sequel, not a Endgame sequel or follow-up to Thor 4.
When Lylla dies and Floor is pleading "Rocket, Teeth, Floor go now!" over and over in the background while Rocket, consumed by rage and pain, is relentlessly clawing at the man responsible, only for that to result in Teeth and Floor getting shot... man. That was something else.
Nebula is my favourite character. She was such a hardened assassin that never got seen and tortured for existing. The line where Mantis commented about her hating herself made me shed a tear and seeing her break down after hearing Rocket's voice just crumbled me. I can't put into words why I feel this way and I think I'd do a disservice even attempting to explain it
"Guardians is a love letter to the abused" is SUCH a good sentiment, that really just made everything sink in. That after all the suffering and otherwise, the dog days are over.
I cried 3 times but the ending still hit me hard since it's so bittersweet. I'm sad the og team disbanded but seeing them all dancing together celebrating their victory just hit me so fucking hard especially Rocket's final scream of joy. Fuck that was powerful.
The old team may have disbanded but they all got their well deserved send off, the wrapping of their arcs. It's the very definition of a bittersweet ending. We may not see them again but we'll rest easy knowing that they were given a better fate than death
@@rhetiq9989 fr. I'm all for a sad ending but bittersweet is something else, probably I connect with the story a lot better if the ending is bittersweet.
I'm honestly not ready to say goodbye to the Guardians, but I don't want to see them come back on screen without James Gunn directing the film, so if this is the last time we see them, then thank you Gunn for giving us the guardians. they well always have a special place in my heart.
I'm 99% sure that we'll get more of them until they aren't profitable anymore. If nothing else, Rocket and Groot will be around for a long, long time. They can keep switching out voice actors and no one will really care. Much harder to keep an on-camera actor going for a long time.
@@diogomarques9228 I have a bad feeling about that. "The Legendary Star-Lord" sounds like the name of a lame Disney+ show where Quill struggles to fit in on Earth again.
If James Gunn can make us feels like this with a walrus in a wheelchair, otters with robots arm & a spider rabbit …imagine what he can do with character like Clark Kent
Yes. Cavill looked like Kent. But he never was a an actor. He was some of hostile semi evil guy that had nothing to do with the world's most powerful boy scout . Edit Note: if they could get Henry Cavill the way he behaves in interviews, he would be a good superman. But when he's acting a darkness comes out more suited to a villain or anti hero.
That's a problem. Superman is about as perfect and together as it's possible to be, most of the time. A flawed Superman will NOT work. That was the entire point of the "Death of Superman", where he's temporarily replaced by four imperfect Supermen and it doesn't work. Honestly, Gunn would do better with Batman than Superman. He's the poster child for childhood-related trauma at DC.
@Aristocles I think Gunn respects the source material, and his Superman will be in league with Tyler Hoechlin and Christopher Reeves and Superman in the DCA. Gunn won't be trying to deconstruct Superman.
@@macmcleod1188 I'll reserve judgment until I see it, but he's not really a good fit based on past performance. Who knows, maybe it'll be a pleasant surprise. Even if it would require him to do a 180 relative to everything else he's ever done.
Man I loved all three of them but this one just hits home. Instead of getting a huge battle against an enemy it’s focused on personal things. I’ve never laughed, cried, or felt so emotionally attached to any characters so much. It’s sad to see this amazing series end, but James Gunn really put together a masterpiece.
That scene where Quill meets his grandfather for the first time, I nearly let out a sound a man never wants others to hear. The emotional rollercoaster was incredibly well constructed. James Gunn is possibly the finest director of our time.
That scene made me cry in the cinema. No other movie has ever done that. The other moments were banging away at my capacity to not do it and this was the one that broke through
Nebula or Mantis telling Drax that his purpose is to be a father is where I started crying. When Dog Days Are Over started playing, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to hold back tears. This movie actually made me cry in front of my girlfriend. Seeing Peter finally see his old man and hug him made me cry even more. Rockets dancing with Groot and his final scream of joy and happiness made me cry even more. There are plenty of characters who’ve gone through Rocket’s character arc, but something about him and how his character has been written made me actually love seeing him happy. Like it was earned, deserved, and how he actually should be. I actually like seeing a happy rocket. So many writers turn characters similar to Rocket into being better people, and I never feel it. This time I felt it. It was an amalgamation of so many things when it comes to his character. This ending was bittersweet. The characters may have not gotten what they wanted, but they got what they needed. Not just in family, but in themselves. They have new goals in life. This movie spoke to me on so many levels. I cried because I realized this was the last time we’d see all of the guardians together. The only MCU movies that give me a hint of that Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy feeling with how grounded it is, even in the larger MCU. James Gunn outdid himself. The first MCU movie to make me cry ever since the MCU was a thing. Congratulations to everyone who worked on Guardians of the Galaxy 3. The Guardians will be loved and missed ❤
Really, REALLY well said dude. I fully do not comprehend the hate being given to the film; it was the best soul-gut punch in the longest time, MCU or not.
I read your paragraph so easily bc your words are exactly what I felt . Good thing I didn’t see this with my gf bc I was actually crying as if someone died in my family and just like u said I didn’t just cry of sadness but of the “happy” ending . Not the best but definitely rewarding
The breakout scene, where Lyla gets shot, is absolutely gut wrenching. Everything about Rocket’s back story was completely predictable, and yet somehow still emotionally relevant. That’s the magic of James Gunn. This is the first Guardians film in which Gunn is credited as the sole writer, and I think that it shows. I believe the only thing that could have made the movie better, is to have another writer there to wrangle in Gunn during some of the comedic sequences that dragged on just a little too long.
i actually laughed more at this one than the other two i think. i thought the humor was pretty much fine. totally agree with the other stuff you said tho
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was an absolute gem. It really should’ve been the beginning of Phase 5 and I can’t believe how much I enjoyed this film and I wasn’t even a fan of the Guardians films or the characters at first but I’ve grown to appreciate and like them more as time went on and this film was a great way to end a great trilogy. A strong 9/10 for me.
Dude same, I watched 1 and 2 on my tv and I didn’t think too much of them, but I cried a couple times in theatre watching 3. I couldn’t believe I was watching a marvel movie.
another thing i think the guardians trilogy does so well is showing you don’t have to be the “perfect victim”. if victims of abuse don’t act “perfect”, their story and life can be discredited. but guardians shows how these deeply flawed characters were hurt and how they act badly bc of it, but we still love them bc they are deeply flawed. i feel like if rocket or peter or gamora weren’t as flawed as they are, their backstories wouldn’t have much impact.
Hats off to James Gunn for this masterpiece. This wasn’t a Marvel movie, it was a James Gunn film with marvel characters. The heart, the emotion, the humor. No over the top marvel shoe-ins. No bullshit. Just a great story told well.
Last time I saw a villain as brutal and despicable as the Evolutionary was when I watched Made in Abyss. Both that and this film made me feel so many emotions. Including shock, disgust and grief. I was absolutely crushed when I saw what Rocket went through and how he lost his friends and I burst into tears when he reunited with them again... While Quill screams in anguish trying to save Rocket's life... Such a beautiful and emotional film...
The Guardians trilogy is the best mcu trilogy of all time, the best superhero trilogy of all time, and arguably one of the best and most heartfelt trilogies of all time, period. Fantastic job James Gunn, I cannot wait to see what you bring to the DCU. He is my role model and inspires me to make my own films
Spider-Man 3 is not great, it’s good but not nearly as good as 1 and 2, and the dark knight rises is a good movie with some great moments but some really bad execution with a lot of things
For over a decade, my favorite MCU film was the original Iron Man. Watching Iron Man for the first time changed my life. Tony Stark's character inspired me to become an engineer, which I am today... I never thought that any MCU film would top that. But Vol. 3 instantly became my NEW favorite. It was just so good, and such a huge contrast from the recent MCU movies of phase 4.
I honestly can't stop crying. I was teary-eyed from the very beginning, looking at those innocent baby raccoons scrambling and playing together, then all stop in fear once the monster that an abuser is appears to prey on them. Evrey flashback I had tears held back if they weren't already flowing, anyone who's experienced abuse knows those moments of joy you cling to before you're exposed to more fear and pain from those who cause it. I always loved rocket but now i can fully relate and love him wholeheartedly with his backstory and character out and open. Empathy for animals and children is tenfold with how innocent and vulnerable they are to those who are in control of them and it breaks my heart. Not even just rocket was incredible in this moive, each character with their own struggles and pain gotten their each and own well deserved conclusions. This moive was incredible and i expected nothing less with how great the previous films were.
Honestly can’t imagine this movie working with any other director… James Gunn puts so much care and love into establishing the universe around the characters rather than just the “main characters” themselves. Everything feels so cohesive and believable rather than just serviceable. Can’t wait to see what he has in store for the DCEU
One of the things I’d like to point out is that Peter Quill’s backpack contains a Panthro action figure, which is not only fitting since Thundercats aired from 1985-88 (perfectly fitting in the age bracket for Peter to have seen it from when he was 5-8), but the Thundercats themselves were Alien man-cats and the Guardians are on Counter-Earth, which not only sounds a bit like Third Earth but is populated by sapient humanoid animals. Hell, the 2011 iteration of ThunderCats had plans to reveal that it was Mumm-Ra who created the Animals by mixing animal and human dna in a series of experiments similar to what the High Evolutionary was doing. What I’m trying to say is that James Gunn is a genius (but we already knew that)
I watched this with my GF. She hasn't watched a single MCU movie since 2008. She loved this movie. She felt the emotion. She was never lost. I think that alone is a testament to how good this movie is.
Absolutely beautiful video, Alex. I don’t think there’s any other channel that gets Gotg like you do. This trilogy has some of the best emotional drama in any marvel film because they feel the most real out of any of the other mcu films. Keep being awesome, Alex!
I think Gunn epitomizes an earlier era of superhero filmmaking. One that relied on either absurdly talented individuals or ones with a real take on the material. Don’t get me wrong. Even in the earlier 2000s, you had Mark Steven Johnson(daredevil, ghost rider) type of guys hired to get a job done, but you also had Sam Raimi, Christopher Nolan, Bryan Singer(I know. I know), Guillermo del Toro, Ang Lee, etc. It hasn’t been all bad this decade with James Gunn, Joss Whedon(I know, I know again), Ryan Coogler, Snyder(though my feelings on him are mixed), etc. These were commercial projects, but there was a level of artistry and individuality. Hollywood still wasn’t unsure with this was a fad that would go away. Now that they have proven to be so successful, they decided to hire tv directors and talented indie filmmakers with no experience doing big films at a rapid pace. Look not everyone one of these can be winners, but if you’re batting average is one truly great movie(totally subjective of course) every 9 movies now…….maybe it’s time to slow down and think about the people you hire and trust them and not too many “you gotta set up this other movie” demand.
Wat. How you gonna leave out the Russo bros? Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War. Those three are all in the same tier as TDK, Logan, and First Class / Days of Future Past. MAYBE Guardians 3 is in that tier. Honestly its probably not, although the guardians trilogy as a collection is. And I love Guardians 3- its an instant top 5 for me. Raimi made a superhero film like last year which I love but y'all didn't but that was incredibly stylized. Del Toros superhero films were good but not in the upper echelon. Ang Lee only made Hulk and it was NOT good. Anyway, its just weird how yall try and act like current MCU projects lack vision and signature. In the grand timeline, there was a 5 year gap between two top tier projects - Infinity War and Guardians 3. What happened during that time? Uh, a global pandemic that screwed up everyone's plans. The death of one of the intended MCU leads. Im ignoring Endgame and No Way Home which many if not most will consider top tier. Thats 4 within a 5 year period. My point is, Gunn doesnt represent a return to form. He doesnt represent an earlier era. There have always been mid and shit and overly commercialzed superhero movies. We just never had them in the WAKE of Infinity War, the greatest cbm of all time. The heroin of superhero films, making everything else seem mid by comparison. This TH-camr claiming that Guardians isnt an MCU film. As if there weren't other MCU projects that directly contributed to character growth. Gunn can complain about Gamora dying or Starlord lashing out at Thanos. Or say Drax was made into a comic relief- as if that wasnt a specific criticism levied at Guardians 2. But his lead - Rocket - as well as Groot both received excellent treatment and character work in the Avengers movies. Same with Nebula. And that character work directly contributes to Guardians 3.
I enjoy the Russo’s Marvel movies well enough specifically when it comes to Winter Soldier because I felt they had a take such as trying to put Cap in a 1970s political thriller, but when it comes to their filmmaking with some of the Avengers movies…….they could be better. I get the feeling they are often pre visualized. As for Raimi, i actually really enjoyed Multiverse of Madness for what he brought to it. I think the big Russo team ups are still fun, but have lost their power a bit for me. If I had to narrow down the best or favorite since 2013, 10 years ago I’d say in no particular order Into the Spider-Verse The Batman Logan Guardians of the Galaxy The Suicide Squad Captain America: Winter Soldier Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 Black Panther Zack Snyder’s Justice League Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 Hm: Deadpool, Wonder Woman, Endgame, Ragnarok, multiverse of madness,
@@Daniel-om4ce Multiverse was fine, folks just had crazy ideas that were never going to come true like the FoX-verse and MCU being merged together or Scarlet Witch creating mutants.
Thank you James, for actually planning stuff out and using practical/real-world effects and sets wherever possible. These films kinda feel like how many blockbusters felt before the whole factory-line, extended-universe CBM craze: tangible, weighty and raw.
That entire sequence at the Orgoscope was a visual feast. Very creatively well put together through mostly practical means to elevate the already fascinating set designs. All the Counter-Earth stuff was great too but man, Orgoscope was just something else
just saw this movie a week or 2 after release and somehow avoided all spoilers, i cried 3-4 times. when rockets friends died, when rocket was about to cross over into the afterlife, when he went to save the other animals, and when come and get your love came on. incredibly powerful movie
the rocket flashback scenes honestly broke me. for me the wort part of that story was the fact that lila, teeth and floor all loved and trusted the high eveolutionary despite everything he did to them. they genuiniely thought he cared for them despite the torture and abuse. they truly beleived they had a good life because they could share a cell close by to other tortured and abused animals. they were so ignorant to the fact that their existence was horrible and was of no care to the high evolutionary. they lived there entire lives blissfully ignorant that they were abused and tortired until there very last moments when they finally realised they were infact victims of a psychopath pnly to have their one chance at a real life ripped from them. honestly these 4 gci animals have broken me
Every Guardians movie has always connected with me emotionally. I've laughed with every movie, I cried with every movie, and I've loved every movie. Best Superhero trilogy since Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy.
The Guardians of the galaxy have a connection like the old avengers did back in age of Ultron. People who show what real friendships and bonds that aren't exaggerated. They feels so real compared to the rest of the MCU
Guardians of the Galaxy always give me the perfect “Dungeons and Dragons Party” vibes, and the fact that this is like Spelljammer. Yet Volume 3 felt like the very last Hurrah for not just the party, but closing the doors to open new ones for the next party within their world. Absolute perfection.
People are forgetting to mention how beautiful of a review this is. The second half feels like a poem or a speech, you can hear and feel the emotion in his voice. I don’t have the right words to describe it but the words “beautiful” and “relatable”. The words he speaks and the tone in which he says it carry the motivation that the Guardians trilogy gives. I too want to write or speak a motivational piece. Honestly, a beautiful review on a beautiful movie from a beautiful trilogy. This movie, even just having watched it once, will forever be in my top 5 favorite movies. Usually when watching a show or movie, my eyes only get watery and dry up or one single tear will fall down. But this movie, this movie is the first time I’ve sobbed while watching since the ending of How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Even with HTTYD, I wasn’t really sobbing, I just kept crying all the way from the theater, the car ride home, and the final moments before I fell asleep that night. But with this movie, the first scene I teared up for was the first scene about Rocket’s backstory. The scene where I lost it was when Rocket first met his friends, when he first met Lylla. When Lylla told Rocket, “It’s ok friend, don’t let them scare you”, and when Rocket said his first word, I lost it. They way Lylla showed so much love and care for Rocket touched my heart, it was the type of love and care I long and wish for whenever I’m sad or hurt. And that “hurts” hurt my soul, but probably not as much as Rocket was hurting. This movie is gold storytelling and deserves to be nominated at the Oscars and deserves at least a dozen of awards. And please, I need a Lylla Otter plush and a stuffed animal of the rest of the furry friends. God bless this wonderful movie and James Gunn❤
It "hurts" to let these characters go, to let James not drive them anymore, because they've driven me to some dark ends in myself. And the line, "maybe we experience pain so we can free others from it", ahh!!
I got to say, it’s been nice to see James Gunn grow and become more creative as a Director, making more artistic and ambitious shots, makes me very happy for him him
This made my eyes rain. After watching Guardians 3 i went through their entire cinematic journey again and completely agree with everything you said. A completely soulful and heart wrenching journey of finding warmth, family, and love in spite of the desolation of an unforgivingly brutal multiverse. Definitely up there in my all time favorite trilogies. Hats off to Mr Gunn and crew.
This is my favorite MCU movie. I connected to this movie so much. I felt… seen. But I mainly connected to Rocket and what he went through. I recently lost my sister and it tore me, and to see Rocket see his friends die… to see Lyla die… I really connected to that. But I also connected to what Quill had to learn. I connected to the journey of the Guardians. I love this film and these characters. Thank you, James Francis Gunn, for making this beautifully special, vulnerable film.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is a MCU movie, but its the last of the MCU movies that we grew up on, the ones we loved, something we may never get back again.
To me, the fact that their is more music in each guardians movie, shows how they are becoming closer, music is becoming a part of all of their lives, something special to me
Last time I ever cried at an MCU movie was Guardians Vol. 2. Vol. 3 made me cry so many times. Especially when the screen cuts to black knowing this group of misfits wont come back. This movie broke me in the best way possible.
I love how this dude loves movies more than he loves more than he loves ad revenue, is honestly rare to see a review with passion instead of just someone going through the highlights of the movie, well done
I came to the same realization yesterday actually. The GOTG movies aren’t MCU movies, they’re James Gunn movies. That’s why I loved them the most out of the movies in the MCU, with only the earliest of movies falling under “like” (with the exception of No Way Home which was just clean)
For me the guardians movies always had the most heart out of all the mcu movies. None of the mcu movies made me tear up as much as them and especially Gotg 3. James is great at humanising these characters and making them relatable. Which is why we care so much about them.
Guardians 3 made me feel things I didn't think I'd ever even feel. I still feel slightly sick after watching it for a second time, in the best possible way where there's just so many emotions going through me. It was an excellent choice that Rocket brutalizing his abuser didn't even feel triumphant, it wasn't like anyone was jumping out of their seats cheering and jeering. The movie didn't shy away from pain, instead it made it's audience understand and empathize with Rocket's actions in the worst possible way. You know in your heart you would never want to do that to anyone, and kindhearted Rocket sure as hell wouldn't either. But his maker just wasn't human. His creation and life were so twisted and vile, and he was ONLY an abuser to Rocket. He gave Rocket nothing but pain. Seeing that emotional burst from Rocket, him letting everything go and just hitting, scratching, biting, was heart wrenching. I don't even have the words to fully describe what I went through in that scene. James Gunn is an artist, for the love of god watch this movie if you haven't already.
"Maybe we experience pain so we could free others from it" is one of the best phrases I've ever heard. Cry my eyes out from this video. It's like a culmination of the movie tbh. Thank you!
There were so many times in this movie I was about to cry, but then the anger of how the "High Evolutionary" was treating people actually over rode it and I nearly started yelling at the screen. I didn't, because I'm not nuts, but man... that villain was a scumbag. Chukwudi is an AMAZING actor and should get an award for playing this role.
The emotional roller-coaster James Gunn manages to pull off with these films is just pure magic... IT'S SO DAMN GOOD. I love stories that can punch into someone's heart and shake it like a soda can so the pressure builds up and explodes at the exact moment needed to have its full emotional effect.
Probably my favorite Guardians 3 video since it goes in depth of not only what the 3rd movies means to them, but the entire amazing trilogy with its themes and messages.
James Gunn is so passive aggressive in this movie against disney. Peter's explaination of what happened to Gamora in Infinity War, Rocket basically is James Gunn and The High Evolutionary is Disney. James left Disney only to give them the best MCU movie, and Disney wanting him back for his genius film making. brillaint.
Never been a mcu fan, and never really have any emotion when i watch all sorts of movies, but out of all films the last thing i expected to start bawling my eyes out over was a Cybernetic Raccoon and Otter so much. James Gunn is a special director and although I was disappointed with the firing of Cavill, I feel reassured knowing how much I enjoyed this film.
Pretty sure I cried for the majority of the runtime. This movie hit at the perfect time for me, and I needed it. Glad you can put words to how a movie can touch your soul ❤ Thanks, Alex
I felt the human experience through a raccoon and I feel that is something I would have never said in my life. James Gunn made an amazing movie. I feel like he is perfect for DC because the strongest theme DC has to offer may be gods among men, but to me it's how gods are just like us. I feel he can breathe new light into a what feels soulless franchise.
James Gunn was able to make a group of wacky ridiculous characters more relatable than any other Comic book movie ever has (in my opinion). That alone was a feat of greatness. But he also manages to make me cry more than any other comic book movie... AND then laugh more than any other comic book movie. In my opinion Guardians is the best comic book trilogy ever made. They manage to be emotional, funny, action packed, relatable and creative, while somehow also being so grounded. Incredibly impressive
i don’t think ive ever disagreed with a youtube videos point more. Making the argument that GotG 3 “isn’t a MCU movie” simply because it’s good? And that James Gunn directed it? All you say in this video is that GotG 3 “isn’t a MCU movie” because it’s good, and then have someone else say the same thing, and then summarize all the GotG movies. Saying that GotG 3 doesn’t “feel” like a MCU movie is just wrong. A more accurate statement would be that GotG 3 “feels” like the MCU we all know and love, basically pre Endgame marvel. All i’m saying is that the argument is stupid and incorrect, and this video barely does anything to back up the statement it makes.
I cried during the movie. And now I’m crying at the analysis of the movie. Well done man! Fantastic analysis and just shows the brilliance of this franchise to this point.
Almost two years ago I lost my father in a freak motorcycle accident and since then I’ve lost just about everything I had. On the cusp of adulthood I lost my best friend, best mentor, home, my jobs, failed out of college, lost friends, started mistreating family and started hating myself along many other things. I watched everything I love melt away by my own doing and I’ve been so unspeakably angry with myself for letting what little I have left go. I’ll never be the same human being I was, but I can certainly see to it that when I see someone in pain, that I’ll do anything I can to lighten their load. To the best of my ability I’ll stay conscious of my words and actions to see that they don’t inflict pain. I won’t take anything for granted and I’ll relish the things I do have. I’ll treat myself with respect and take care of myself so one day it isn’t all for nothing. This movie and commentary really hit a soft spot and helped shed a little light on some of the silver linings in my own trauma. I really loved the quote “be not as you are, but as you should be” because it’s one of the few things I can hear and become motivated by. I can start correcting and improving upon things I’ve been begging myself to for 2 years. This isn’t all just because of a movie but funny enough a CGI raccoon and talking tree can help you realize things you otherwise may have left alone. Thanks for reading, I hope this gives someone hope.
I've seen a bunch of content about this film already, I've seen a lot of people still stuck deep in superhero fatigue not giving it a chance or somehow not even liking it if they do, and I've felt a lot of bittersweet emotions since seeing it myself, sad about how real it gets and how deep it cuts and the whole finality of it all when part of me wishes we could have Guardians movies magically with the same heart and soul for the rest of my life. But this video right here conveys my feelings and what I *want* to think and say about the movie by far better than anything else I've seen. I want to follow Gunn's career as he moves away but I don't think anything's ever going to quite make me feel the way this trilogy has made me feel, especially among 'superhero' action romps.
what is Groot's origin? I mean he technically grew up with the guardians throughout vol. 2, but he genuinely seems like the only innocent/kind hearted character throughout all the movies.
What did you all think of Guardians 3?

If Sony really wanted to make Morbius 2 🦇 more of a tangible piece of art & passion rather than a meme then they need to switch it's genre from Superhero to body-horror and they must hire S. Craig Zahler to direct this, because he's an astonishing director, who never pulled his punches and who never feared to showcase brutality/violence with a neo-noir style and an extremely brilliant storytelling 🖤

Good movie, I’ve liked it better than all the entries of the last phase - but I do feel bad that the team up hallway fight kills a bunch of experiments that half the movie is about following rockets past, killing them is like killing rocket, floor or liya.

Seeing Vol 3 reminded me that we aren’t tired of superhero movies we are just tired of mediocre unloved superhero movies

I’ll never get over Rocket’s scream when Lylla dies. It’s absolutely gut wrenching and raw and heartbreaking. And when the High Revolutionary starts mocking him, it solidified him as arguably the most hated villain in all the MCU
YES. So haunting and cuts straight to your core.
That scene made me sick 🍄
It was the scream and the wide shot of Lylla dead and Rocket was so small and all he could do was cry over his love who would never see the sky. 😢
I'm not even sure who else in the MCU could challenge the title.
it killed me and got dangerously close to making me cry.. i have NEVER cried to a movie and only once to a game, so that means something.
I mean ending is just a guy who being brought back to life want to take the revenge on the guy who made him what is he now and want to exploit him

Vol. 2 was partly about Rocket accepting that his new family loves him unconditionally, and Vol. 3 shows just how far they are willing to go for him. The entire plot is driven by the love everyone has for a character who always considered himself unloveable.
This was such a profound way to say it.
Isn't that why Lylla said the story was always about him?
Seeing Nebula break down after hearing Rocket's voice absolutely broke me. I'm not a very emotional person, but I can't put into words what came over me
Sure man.
But leaving Rocket out of 90% of the last Guardians film because he’s in a coma is just stupid.
@@SojiFro_0 lol
When rocket was going to save the raccoons amd saw that he infact, was a raccoon.. Idk why, but that felt beautiful. The entire movie is so heartbreaking.
He spent 3 movies thinking it was an insult, only to find out he actually is a racoon. Then he totally owns it when he says he's Rocket Racoon.
Ok, but seriously, that was so good because Quill has been calling him by the correct name this whole time. I like to imagine that this fact registers with Rocket, and it fills him with emotion knowing that his friend wasn’t just insulting him this whole time.
@@connorjohnson8590 quill meant trash panda
When you put it that way it’s almost like an ‘acceptance’ of his trauma. Denying he was a raccoon was kind of like denying his past. “I’m not a raccoon, this didn’t happen to me, this wasn’t who I was”
It isn’t until he revisits this place that has been haunting him and confronts his past that he can say, “yes, these horrible things did happen to me, yes I came from this awful place. But there was joy there too that was worth fighting for. I’m not an experiment, I’m not a number. I’m Rocket Raccoon”
And the moment when he finally called himself “Rocket Raccoon” instead of just Rocket. Top 10 moments in the whole MCU.
Floor yelling at Rocket; "Rocket, Teeth, Floor go now!" is so effing haunting. CGI animal or not, it's the sound of an innocent child terrified out of her mind. Mad props to the voice actor.

@@lifeandtheuniverse42 love this argument and viewpoint
Like in falcon and winter soldier😅
The trope isn't all bad
The flashbacks scenes were generally hard to watch. It's kind of like a jumpscare, but good. You're expecting something terrible to happen, so Gunn just makes them so likable, you just dread it more and more.

it's not pro vegan, it's anti animal cruelty. it would be pro vegan if it was about turning animals into food, but it's about unethical experiments on animals
@caitlyncarvalho7637 That's the thing about PETA, they aren't really pro animal. They're anti human. There are hundreds and hundreds of cases of PETA kidnapping peoples pets and killing them because in their view, its better their dead than a human slave. Makes me sick just typing this.

If James Gunn can make us feels like this with a walrus in a wheelchair, otters with robots arm & a spider rabbit …imagine what he can do with character like Clark Kent
u mean like Retcon him into nothingness as DC universe gets resetted ? he's making me cry already man
The other moments were banging away at my capacity to not do it and this was the one that broke through
It's ok for a man to cry, don't worry
I wanna give you a fucking hug rn man cause you put into words exactly everything I also felt
Really, REALLY well said dude. I fully do not comprehend the hate being given to the film; it was the best soul-gut punch in the longest time, MCU or not.
crybaby
Legit criticism with the comedy, I think. But it got way more laughs out of me than Thor: Love'n'Thunder ever did.
Yeah most jokes were good but the “bad dog” joke was way dragged out

I liked all three movies , but the third one had to be the best. I'll rate the trilogy at an average of 8.75/10. A tier movies
another thing i think the guardians trilogy does so well is showing you don’t have to be the “perfect victim”. if victims of abuse don’t act “perfect”, their story and life can be discredited. but guardians shows how these deeply flawed characters were hurt and how they act badly bc of it, but we still love them bc they are deeply flawed. i feel like if rocket or peter or gamora weren’t as flawed as they are, their backstories wouldn’t have much impact.

Not the best super hero trilogy but sure
Sam ramis Spider-Man

Spider-Man 3 is not great, it’s good but not nearly as good as 1 and 2, and the dark knight rises is a good movie with some great moments but some really bad execution with a lot of things
The stylized expressions for all the animals is what disney should consider if they're gonna make classic remakes
From makes GOTG Vol 3 works so well in the first place. It's a James Gunn movie first on the inside,
Then A MCU movie on the outside.
Doctor Strange 2 was sadly the opposite, as far as being a Raimi movie goes
Honestly can’t imagine this movie working with any other director… James Gunn puts so much care and love into establishing the universe around the characters rather than just the “main characters” themselves. Everything feels so cohesive and believable rather than just serviceable. Can’t wait to see what he has in store for the DCEU
the last mcu movie ❤ thanks for having me be part of this
Thank YOU, king.
If I had to narrow down the best or favorite since 2013, 10 years ago I’d say in no particular order
Into the Spider-Verse
The Batman
Logan
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Suicide Squad
Captain America: Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2
Black Panther
Zack Snyder’s Justice League
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3
Hm: Deadpool, Wonder Woman, Endgame, Ragnarok, multiverse of madness,
@@SmartypantsTutoring that’s a pretty damn good list. Though imo MoM was incredibly disappointing, and Infinity War def should be on there.
Agree, and it shows
That entire sequence at the Orgoscope was a visual feast.
“They will never, ever be perfect people.”
“What’s so wrong with that?”
I got to say, it’s been nice to see James Gunn grow and become more creative as a Director, making more artistic and ambitious shots, makes me very happy for him him
To put it simply:
James Gunn is just built different
Yeah this was the last marvel movie i was excited for and it absolutely delivered. Honestly im not even hyped for Avengers, this was the peak for me
As always, I'm amazed how you can speak and help me voice out loud thoughts I can't for my own.

This was beautiful, man. i think you really understand james gunn, and so like his movies, this video essay made feel a lot and gave me goose bumps!
so glad that James Gunn proved that live action superhero movies can still be phenomenal if theyre made with love and passion
Yep unlike movie like no way home and ant man quantumania, who are corporate trash movies made by yes man and only supported by some fandom
Well GOTG 1 made him recognise his own style
Me seeing the marvel studios logo: ahhh it’s a mcu movie
For me the guardians movies always had the most heart out of all the mcu movies. None of the mcu movies made me tear up as much as them and especially Gotg 3. James is great at humanising these characters and making them relatable. Which is why we care so much about them.
Apart from the Spiderman movies. GOTG made me sad.
With GotG 3, a trilogy about unknown space outlaws has proven to be the best superhero trilogy ever.
James Gunn is so passive aggressive in this movie against disney. Peter's explaination of what happened to Gamora in Infinity War, Rocket basically is James Gunn and The High Evolutionary is Disney. James left Disney only to give them the best MCU movie, and Disney wanting him back for his genius film making. brillaint.
That's absolutely bullshit lmao

James Gunn is a special director and although I was disappointed with the firing of Cavill, I feel reassured knowing how much I enjoyed this film.
Pretty sure I cried for the majority of the runtime. This movie hit at the perfect time for me, and I needed it. Glad you can put words to how a movie can touch your soul ❤ Thanks, Alex
There should have been more dialogue between Rocket and Quill. All that emotional buildup to Rocket's survival and the conversations are lacking.
James Gunn played with my emotions like 3-4 times during the entire movie
Highly agree with the title. It was very much a James Gunn film through & through. Great content as always Alex.
gotg3 still has the same plot structure as a mcu movie but james' passion care and talent made it a masterpiece

Seeing the comic book accurate uniforms of the Guardians of the Galaxy was truly a beautiful moment.
Wow.. this doesnt just impact this movie
but to us too.. this has got to be the best and emotional video you ever made.
Even this franchise's signature theme of musical expression gets a fulfilling close to its arc here in Vol.3.
The first thing I thought when the opening scene with Rocket Raccoon started was, “Oh boy… HiTop is gonna love this.”
Beautiful, man, glad to hear you with positive shit to say, hope you're doing well
James Gunn was able to make a group of wacky ridiculous characters more relatable than any other Comic book movie ever has (in my opinion).
Sorry to hear about your father
Rocket's first word hit DEEP
The trilogy will definitely be remembered as one of the best of all time. Generations will watch the movies long after we’re all dead
been waiting for this one since seeing the movie twice. can’t wait for peak for a third time this week
I cried 3 separate times and everyone keeps saying they cried 3 separate times as well! What kind of an MCU movie is this??!!!
