    Brian, thank you. My one regret in life is that I did not raise my kids with anything near the family prayer you use in yours. Keep it up; it's too late for me, though even at this late date I now keep trying and praying.

      I’m sure you did the best you could with what knowledge, experience and perspective you had at the time. I hope you now focus on what you can do for your relationship with God now. God bless my friend :)

      I feel your pain. It’s not totally our fault. Our priests were not teaching and guiding families how to truly live as a Christian. Now we have adult children who have even less foundation than we had and are leaving the church in droves. It’s so sad - soul-crushing sad.

    Fr. Chris Alar once said that "if God gave you a bad singing voice, give it back to Him."
    Wishing we had done more praying together when the kids were small - it was one of my girls who got us into the regular habit of praying before meals. I try to get the two still at home to pray the Rosary once a week together with my wife and I. Right now we are doing the 33 Day Marian Consecration Prep. So little by little we are working more prayer into our lives - as well as spiritual reading which I never thought I'd have an interest in but which I find inspiring. As St. Padre Pio said "Be content to begin with small steps till you have legs to run, better still wings to fly.” God bless.

    That is lovely. Hope to get my prayer life up to bar eventually. Right now I don't have a dedicated prayer place and no icon. I have a picture of Blessed Mother and Devine Mercy picture, and my daughter and I just sit on the bed and pray the Rosary. Of course with Mother Mary's picture.

    We pray in the morning (sacrifice our day, for priests, prayer of Fatima angel), before meals, before sleep (for souls in purgatory, for Poland, for good death). We also pray rosary every day and read the Bible or other Church's writings. Thanks Brian. We don't have kids yet but introducing singing is a great advise!

    I’ve noticed different stages of family life require different approaches. For our toddlers, their attention span before bed only allows for basic “I love you Jesus “ “Thank you Jesus” etc. As much as my 3 year old daughter daughter wants to pray the “Compline” grown up prayer, she isn’t quite ready for it.

    I pray you look into the 3 order of St. Pius the X. They have great prayer for Prime. Also the Divinum Officum App. Peace and blessings. Great tools for a rule of life for the family. Like the Secret of La Salette said about the order of the apostoles of the last days of having morning and evening prayer.

    Great video; I think the rediscovery of the domestic church is one of the most important needs of our culture. We are figuring this out with our children using an adaptation of “Family Prayer” from The Book of Common Prayer. I love the insights you are sharing for people.
    Not sure I agree, however, that singing a hymn is to “stop and take a break” from praying. Rather the words of the hymn are part of our prayers and praise. I only say that because I’ve heard others make this same distinction that you make and I think it is a bit artificial. The hymn is itself a pre-written prayer.

The UMC is in the process of splitting so we will see what denomination/institution I am in 2 years from now; but either way I will be a Wesleyan with a strong affinity for the Common Prayerbook and the Anglican tradition. I also follow 'Sing the Hours' on YT.

    We are only just starting out on family prayers with our five-year-old family, so this is ever so useful; many many thanks, Brian! Right now I am reading The Little Oratory, A Beginner's Guide to Praying in the Home by David Clayton and Leila Marie Lawler. So far we only pray in the evenings. I hope that we perhaps buildup the discipline to pray in the mornings, too.
    Which specific track by Paul Jernberg is the outro (and the intro for that matter) is it? It's so beautiful!

    One of the most common words in my 2.5 yr olds vocabulary (besides... mine, give it, and no mama!!! pleassssseeee) is Rosary, Pray, and Church .... she loves to pray rosary with me, and can always point out every Mary in the Church windows ... even at home she points to images of Mary and tells me it's Jesus' Mama.... I struggle to keep consistency in prayer routines for myself and our home but it's SO WORTH IT; It's amazing how children are enchanted and so pure in their connection to God.

    If anyone is looking for resources for teaching mental prayer (the informal conversation he talks about at the beginning) I've found the book "guided prayer for little ones" by Kimberly Fries to be really helpful. It guides the child through a looser "script" than written prayers (but those are also included in the prayer session) I do this with my kids INDIVIDUALLY starting in first grade so that they can have a habit of individual mental prayer established by the time they are ready for their first communion (this is in addition to any family prayers).
    I also really like her "lectio divina for little ones" book- it's beautiful and does not dumb down the practice even though it's written for kids!

    I pray the rosary, and then the evening office with the readings of the mass of the day with my wife and son. When the kids were younger we read through the bible after supper. Is it always convenient? No. Is it hard to start? Yes. Do it anyway.

    For me something like that would be terribly embarrassing. I feel embarrassed even when I'm just going to the church, when I kneel I feel it the most. Here is this serious, rational man, kneeling before an imaginary God. The rational part of me is trying to convince me that it's all nonsense, like a theater, and I'm a fool. I feel humiliated by my own faith, as well as by what the Church expects from me as a Catholic to do and say - like such a prayer routine. How can I do such things when I'm constantly unsure of my faith? How can anyone be sure about their faith? Is it something wrong with me, or with them? 🤔

    • @johnburford7862
      @johnburford7862 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the rational side, I’d read On Guard by William Lane Craig. It has some great arguments for God’s existence. It’s one of the main books that converted me.
      I’d also recommend Answering Atheism by Trent Horn, the Classical Theism podcast, and Edward Feser’s blog.
      Research and read your way into faith.
      On the prayer side, I’d just say fake it until you make it. I think if you pray like you believe, over time your internal feelings will match your external actions.
      I also think it’s good to just be honest with God and be like “God, if you’re there, please help me with XYZ” or say “Lord, increase my faith” or “Lord, I believe, help thou mine unbelief.”

    • @johnburford7862
      @johnburford7862 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Lane Craig also has some great debates on TH-cam with different atheists. I’d start with the Christopher Hitchens one.

    • @damnedmadman
      @damnedmadman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnburford7862 Thanks, I'll check them out. Though I know most arguments, it's a long way from the existence of God to Christianity and Catholicism in particular. And for me it's easier to convince my brain than my heart...

    Do even a a blessing from your bishop to do what you do on youtube. Is very clear you have some depression issues some other mental issues. One time you are in distress other times you're happy work on yourself make sure you have a blessing from your Bishop to do what you do where the bishop is the church us. That means you are in line with your Bishop intern you are in line with the church we have too many people doing what they want to do breaking down the church causing confusion to God's people some videos you make causes confusion

    • @damnedmadman
      @damnedmadman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What are you talking about? Where's the confusion? Today confusion comes from the epicenter of the Church, from bishops and even the Pope himself.
