THANK GOD! Anytime I've wanted to replay classic RE2 without issues, I've had to dust off my PS3. I tried to get the PC version working a few months back and it just wouldn't go so this is wonderful news. It can't release soon enough.
Seeing the old Spencer Estate again, in those graphics awakened in my such a powerful longing. I remember: 98 or 99, coming home from school and playing through Resident Evil with the goal of beating it before Battlestar Gallactica came on the Sci-Fi channel at 3pm. Typically, I'd arrive home by 1:45 or so giving my just a little over an hour on the living room TV. My mother would be at work until three-thirty or four and over the course of several months I played that game everyday until one day I managed to beat it, save, and turn my Playstation off just as the main theme for Battlestar would start up! To this day, I still recall so many little details about that game. I was one of those fools whom mastered "quick changing" weapons by rapidly swapping them from the inventory. Gosh, what golden days, those were. Thank you Suzy... I needed this today.
Thank god for them. For a while the only way I could play games like Planescape Torment, Blade Runner 97, and Mafia City Of Lost Heaven was through them. This is good news. Honestly, the gaming industry is the absolute worst when it comes to preservation. What's worse is that a lot of game developers and even gamers have this mindset that once a remake comes out you don't have to bother with the original. The idea that a remake should or even could just replace the original is really bad for video games as an art form because it devalues them into content to be discarded as soon as the new shiny replacement comes out. The same thing applies to other forms of media, but in the gaming industry this kind of mindset is more celebrated than elsewhere and it is depressing. Video games don't have to be groundbreaking in continuity, It's okay for our classics to be classics, to be examined with historical lenses instead of treated as machines in need of repair. Imagine movie buffs telling you not to bother with the iconic original Cape Fear and instead just watch the new shiny remake. Preservation is something that needs to be discussed more within the gaming industry.
Preach it! As much as RE Remake is my favorite RE I still want to experience the original one because without the OG we wouldn't have Resident Evil, same for RE2 and 3!
It definitely happens with movies too. Do you ever hear anyone talking about the original Scarface, the Fly, the Thing, or Wizard of Oz? I think most people aren't even aware there were original versions that came before all the previously mentioned movies.

One thing I'll add for folks interested in the Classic Rebirth improvement packs, I've read you can get Classic Rebirth applied to the GOG version of these games. This is pretty cool to see CAPCOM preserving the Resident Evil trilogy. I wish the Team Silent games were given the same level of love and ported to PC too but it seems Konami hates making money through hardwork 😔
Konami lost the original games or something plus the HD remaster have alot of diferences and changes sadly no SH4 Has for the company himself aint mustly a Casino company instead of gaming?
@JohnnyFish971 even if they lost the source code, modern consoles can emulate ps1 and ps2 pretty much flawlessly, provided you unlock them/pay for dev mode
@@latedawnsandearlysunsets09 Konami could sell it as emulation too, they already did that with MGS1 in the Master Collection. Only problem is any time companies do this their emulation is pretty much always inferior to the community made stuff. Even after numerous patches, playing MGS1 via the Master Collection release is still vastly inferior to Duckstation. And it always will be, because Konami are just never going to be able to compete with well over a decade of community driver advances in emulation on the kinds of deadlines and budgets these types of releases have. And with Silent Hill 2 you've also got the "problem" (for Konami) of the Enhanced Edition, which realistically they're also never going to be able to beat because it's more or less completely perfect at this point. The best thing they could do with Silent Hill 2, for gamers I mean, is just rerelease the original PC port of Silent Hill 2 with the expectation that people will use the EE mod. But that might not be a good move for Konami themselves.
@@latedawnsandearlysunsets09 "Flawlessly", aren't the emulations riddled with absolutely horrendous texture glitches and potential game breaking bugs because they're emulations? People act like emulators are the end-all be-all but they're not perfect. Especially for games created with specific console hardware in mind.
The big GOG logo was on screen during the one developer's interview in order to cover up a Capcom special forces operative pointing a gun at him to keep him on-message.
Wow, Suzy! I'm so happy not only to hear about these great ports, but also really happy that they called you to present it. The ending, pressing GOG to port survival, tho 😂 Best wishes from Brazil!
I am happy classic RE is now on PC and more people can play them for the first time now. BUT I still want people to be aware that the GOG version of RE1 is based on the earliest WIN95/98 Port that uses a older codebase than its mediakite and sourcenext re-releases. These releases came with coding improvements that made the games run a little bit better. Capcom gave GOG the worst version to work with. That's why all the issues like broken framerates, black lines through the screen on 3DFX mode etc are still present, even though the advertisement makes it seem they are "improved. Classic Rebirth paired with mediakite or sourcenext releases are still the superior way to play these games on PC.
It's really a shame that they did it this way, the sourcenext versions are way better. i genuinely see no reason to buy this version of the games when a superior one exists for free, plus the HD mods work better with the sourcenext versions too, and the FMVs are higher res. All around a disappointing effort from GOG.
I actually say, and so I already did: Buy these releases. To show Capcom that there is high demand for a proper remastered classic collection on every existing platform. They refuse this demand for decades now, so it might be a lost cause. But never say never.
I just heard over on the RE subreddit and I'm 100% going to cop it. I wanted to be able to play the OG games without messing around with emulation (I'm lazy) and preferably on PC and now I can. I love the work GOG does and I hope we might get Code Veronica from them too, but this is already great.
I’m not a pc gamer, and I still have ps3 fatboi og that has full backwards compatibility, so that combined with my physical copies of all 3 og RE’s means I’ve been able to play them regularly at whim… but seeing this is so cool, RE2 is one of the best games ever made and a new generation getting to enjoy it makes my heart very happy.
So awesome for the community. I remember when I got back into pc gaming and wanted to toss manhunt on for nostalgia only to have to jump through hoops to get it to run on modern hardware but gog doing support for classic games is amazing

I'm not saying it can't or hasn't be done right, but examples are few and far between.
@@xsx1113 The sole exception I can think of is the Final fantasy IX mogori mod ai upscaled assets, which are basically perrfect in recapturing that classic game feel.
@@foxxoboxxo1611Probably the biggest examples of the failure of capturing smaller details and TOTAL failure of game preservation with the use of AI is the GTA Definitive Editions.
As someone who has only gotten into the series this year, I am so insanely excited by this. Video game preservation is something I am so passionate about and I'm so excited to be able to play the original games
Suzi with another win for nostalgia! The old games can be a blast to go back to every now and then. Makes me feel like a kid again. Thank you!
Having played pretty much all other Resident Evils but never the OG RE1, this is a great way check that off. Thanks Suzi!
What's this a sphere hunter Early in the morning? Hell yeah what a way to wake up
More like in the afternoon or evening, depending on where you are ;)
I'm half asleep and half dead
You poor soul😂
GoG is simply goated and honestly the only true competitor to steam even eclipsing them in old games playability and preservation. thanks for the genuinely good news Suzie :D
Hi Susie I truly love your genuine love for resident evil, there’s no bullshit when it comes to your content, thank u so much.
wow this is so awesome! i have emulated them before since i don’t have physical copies but im more than happy to buy these to support the gog team. they seem like nice people.
I just decided to play through these games a week ago; finished 1 and 2 (original discs!), currently going through 3. With every game afterwards being on every modern platform known to humans, it's baffling that these were left behind for so long; cheers to GOG for their hard work!
@scatman1236 Advice for you. Play RE3 on Hard Mode. Lots of extra content there. Just don't expect it to be a no-hit run 😂 .
@meziembamara4004 Halfway through a hard mode run actually, enjoying every second of it! Might even do 2 runs before moving on to my next game on the backlog.
GOG really should do these promotions more. I buy most of their classic re-released but always miss when they release. Thanks for letting us know Suzi ❤
I still dig out the GameCube to get my old RE fix. I played 0,1,2,3,4, and CVX on it last year
this is such great news! I have never played the pc ports and never had a computer that could do so till now, it is like a dream come true to be able to play these games again and on my pc of all places, this is is going to be so much fun!
I love how Sphere tries and fails to hide her smile when she says "re-enter the world of survival horror", like she can barely believe it. We have the right nerds fighting for game preservation lol
Purchased immediately, have to support projects like this, it's so important and i'm thrilled to be able to play these games on PC without illegal methods.
It's awesome that GOG are bringing back these classic trilogy of games, and remastered them. It's a great opportunity for new and old gamers to experience or revisiting these classic PS1 games.
Steam, DO THIS NOW! Consoles do this as well.
I second this
I third this!@@TheWrongDom
I need it on Steam for achievements!
You can preserve it on GOG when it is delisted both on store and license
IMO it’ll be better to get on GOG because you’ll own the actual game files and you could put them on a hard drive that doesn’t have your GOG account.
These classics need to be on consoles with hd texture and fan mods added many would buy it in a heartbeat
What an awesome project. This news really made my day. Thank GOG and you for this!!
Imagining Jared picking up the Capcom phone in Japan and it's Suzie.
"Hello?"
"Mr. Jared... The Resident Evils are working."
*Gunshots can be heard shooting infected at the door. *
This comment wins.
Here's hoping they can convince Knonami to put Silent Hill 1-3 on GOG as well. The games' industry in general needs to do a better job of preserving older games like this.
good luck!
One can dream. Konami has a history of making stupid decisions.
There a hd remaster version of 2 and 3 , learn the history of why those games bombed
Wont get og 2 and 3 plus remaking 2nd one
SH1 never got released on anything outside the PS1.
@bouncingbluesoul5270 ps3 via store and psp
Dino Crisis Remake when Capcom?
❤
Capcom: "Instructions unclear. Made easily-missed references to Dino Crisis in an Ace Attorney game again."
Yes please been wanting that since the RE2 remake came out
They just have to be making it. Would be crazy not to.
Wrong place to ask since this port was done almost entirely by GOG
As a fellow RE head, this is wonderful news! Thank you for the great work that you do, Suzi. It's important and I hope you're proud of yourself ❤
I couldn't be more happier receiving an email from GOG one morning reading the original resident evil release, this is amazing new, one of the few companies that's doing an amazing job restoring Old school titles back. Thanks Capcom and GOG!
This is a good thing for both the RE community and the Moding scene. Glad to see official versions out of PC finally. Although I have to give props to dolphin for giving me some way to play the games for years now.
THIS. Gog has been championing far more than Steam ever has on game preservation with the clear definitive way to own your game without the license being revoke at any time from your system.

Awesome.
I am able to play the PS3/PSN releases of RE1, RE2, and RE3 as of right now. I just did a playthrough of RE3 a few weeks ago. Yup, a defeat all Nemesis encounter run. Tough, but, at the same time, a rewarding run to do.
S.T.A.R.S. indeed!
Dude I'm buying the bundle for sure! Thank you for covering this because this series is so close to my heart
I don’t care about the choppy FMV, as long as they are the restored uncut versions.

I thoroughly enjoyed you quoting RE2 kendo for your first question to GOG “who are you? What are you doing here?” 😂
Don't shoot ! I'm a human 😂
One thing I'll add for folks interested in the Classic Rebirth improvement packs, I've read you can get Classic Rebirth applied to the GOG version of these games. Some have made patches for the GOG releases to convert the Japanese version into the MediaKite / SourceNext versions of the game then you can apply Classic Rebirth patches.
Love GOG so much. Having MGS1, 2, SWAT 4, and now the OG RE games available to play on their platform is a beautiful thing to see.
Man, we are eating good in 2024. I can't wait to play classic re 3 again
Thank god it's on GOG. Digital preservation is what GOG do.
Finally, the TRUE RE3 being brought to modern age.
I think people will agree, but... You. Are A. Ma. Zing!
Your videos really go in-depth without being too long, and your insights are right on the spot. This is another excellent example of why we watch your videos. Keep it up!
Honestly, just nice to hear you talk about the original 3 RE's again, thats always a treat
By the time I gave up trying to run the Seamless HD Project for the classic trilogy, this came along. GOG is a fucking Godsend!
This is pretty cool to see CAPCOM preserving the Resident Evil trilogy. I wish the Team Silent games were given the same level of love and ported to PC too but it seems Konami hates making money through hardwork 😔
Konami lost the original games or something plus the HD remaster have alot of diferences and changes sadly no SH4
Has for the company himself aint mustly a Casino company instead of gaming?
@JohnnyFish971 even if they lost the source code, modern consoles can emulate ps1 and ps2 pretty much flawlessly, provided you unlock them/pay for dev mode
@@JohnnyFish971gog has silent hill 4
The ending, pressing GOG to port survival, tho 😂
Best wishes from Brazil!
Thanks to your video I pre ordered the bundle on GOG.
Thanks a lot sphere hunter!
I'm very happy that GOG brought the classic Resident Evil together with Capcom.
I've been emulating the dreamcast and gamecube version for years now, but I always wanted an actual PC version.. so this is sick.
Thank you for saying the truth. I see no point in getting these new ports.
Your videos are always very informative and entertaining. It's good to hear that these games are getting the attention that they deserve.
This is awesome! What a labor of love by GOG. Hats off to 'em.
I just heard over on the RE subreddit and I'm 100% going to cop it. I wanted to be able to play the OG games without messing around with emulation (I'm lazy) and preferably on PC and now I can. I love the work GOG does and I hope we might get Code Veronica from them too, but this is already great.
Now we just need a port of Code Veronica for PC.
That would be a dream. Would love to see mods for that
Really hope these sell well, and show Capcom what we want to see from them in the future.
Classic resident evil sign me up
Major W for Game Preservation.
Very much hoping that the PC port of Onimusha 3 could also be brought back if Capcom allows GoG to do it.
I’ll never forget playing the first three games on PS1 in my early teens. Particularly RE1. So much nostalgia. Glad they’re being preserved.
thank you for such a blast from the past.. i sold my N64 (with games in like 1998) to electronics boutique and had just enough for a ps1 and Resident Evil 1 directors cut.. My first taste of "adult gaming". My friends at the time use to have sleep overs and we would watch the classic George Romero zombie movies with some b rated sprinkled in for good measure. I hope future generations get to experience horror like this. Thanks for your video it was great.

RE1 directors cut is available to buy/ download without ps+ premium subscription. If you bought it on ps3 then it’s free to download on ps4/5 (works with any ps1 games that were on ps3 and since had a ps+ premium release) (tested and working with a ps+ essential subscription)

You can probably rule out a console port of these games.
If it was GOG that made this possible, then that means capcom likely had no plans to even re-release these games in the first place. So they probably still don't since this was just GOG doing it.
Gonna get my stepson to play through RE2 in a few year's time. Emulate that experience when I was kid. Such a staple of my childhood.
