This is good news. Honestly, the gaming industry is the absolute worst when it comes to preservation. What's worse is that a lot of game developers and even gamers have this mindset that once a remake comes out you don't have to bother with the original. The idea that a remake should or even could just replace the original is really bad for video games as an art form because it devalues them into content to be discarded as soon as the new shiny replacement comes out. I appreciate your integrity with only agreeing to do the promotion if there was no AI shit and no censorship. It's huge that your principals are with true preservation.
I'm just gonna say it: AI is a tool, not something to demonize. If you seriously think it has the viability to take the human out of the equation for things like this, your wrong: However it can greatly ruin the small details and things like that. I think everybody has become far too negative about AI for no real justification than primal fears of the unknown.
@@foxxoboxxo1611or maybe it's because so far the majority of AI "restorations" are smudgy messes that add false detail and ""clean"" things up in such a way that it destroys the original artistic intention. I’m not a pc gamer, and I still have ps3 fatboi og that has full backwards compatibility, so that combined with my physical copies of all 3 og RE’s means I’ve been able to play them regularly at whim… but seeing this is so cool, RE2 is one of the best games ever made and a new generation getting to enjoy it makes my heart very happy.
GOG got one of my favorite games, Star Trek Elite Force, released a couple years back. Being able to actually play one of the OG games that I've just watched others stream on YT for the past decade...my opinion of GOG continues to rise. (I don't own any consoles and wasn't ready to question the legality of an emulator just to play on PC. Outside of randomly finding a PC disk out in the wild, I didn't think it'd be possible to play one of the OG titles.)
I’m happy to see this trilogy come back again! It means the world to me to finally experience this again without emulation and spending an arm and leg for these games for real! Spherehunter your awesome thanks for sharing your experiences with us :3

I have been playing through RE1 on Saturn. The RE series is the only series I have ever experienced such an intense desire to replay. They never get old. Glad to here GOG is going to be offering them.
The big GOG logo was on screen during the one developer's interview in order to cover up a Capcom special forces operative pointing a gun at him to keep him on-message.
THIS. Gog has been championing far more than Steam ever has on game preservation with the clear definitive way to own your game without the license being revoke at any time from your system.
This is pretty cool to see CAPCOM preserving the Resident Evil trilogy. I wish the Team Silent games were given the same level of love and ported to PC too but it seems Konami hates making money through hardwork 😔
Konami lost the original games or something plus the HD remaster have alot of diferences and changes sadly no SH4 Has for the company himself aint mustly a Casino company instead of gaming?
@JohnnyFish971 even if they lost the source code, modern consoles can emulate ps1 and ps2 pretty much flawlessly, provided you unlock them/pay for dev mode
@@latedawnsandearlysunsets09 Konami could sell it as emulation too, they already did that with MGS1 in the Master Collection. Only problem is any time companies do this their emulation is pretty much always inferior to the community made stuff. Even after numerous patches, playing MGS1 via the Master Collection release is still vastly inferior to Duckstation. And it always will be, because Konami are just never going to be able to compete with well over a decade of community driver advances in emulation on the kinds of deadlines and budgets these types of releases have. And with Silent Hill 2 you've also got the "problem" (for Konami) of the Enhanced Edition, which realistically they're also never going to be able to beat because it's more or less completely perfect at this point. The best thing they could do with Silent Hill 2, for gamers I mean, is just rerelease the original PC port of Silent Hill 2 with the expectation that people will use the EE mod. But that might not be a good move for Konami themselves.
@@latedawnsandearlysunsets09 "Flawlessly", aren't the emulations riddled with absolutely horrendous texture glitches and potential game breaking bugs because they're emulations? I couldn't be more happier receiving an email from GOG one morning reading the original resident evil release, this is amazing new, one of the few companies that's doing an amazing job restoring Old school titles back. Thanks Capcom and GOG!
As someone who has only gotten into the series this year, I am so insanely excited by this. Video game preservation is something I am so passionate about and I'm so excited to be able to play the original games
GoG is simply goated and honestly the only true competitor to steam even eclipsing them in old games playability and preservation. thanks for the genuinely good news Suzie :D
Good to see these classics being preserved, RE1 is one of the three games that influenced how I continue playing games today. Thanks to it I still save ammo and health like they're precious gems even in games where it's plentiful lol.
I am happy classic RE is now on PC and more people can play them for the first time now. BUT I still want people to be aware that the GOG version of RE1 is based on the earliest WIN95/98 Port that uses a older codebase than its mediakite and sourcenext re-releases. These releases came with coding improvements that made the games run a little bit better. Capcom gave GOG the worst version to work with. That's why all the issues like broken framerates, black lines through the screen on 3DFX mode etc are still present, even though the advertisement makes it seem they are "improved. Classic Rebirth paired with mediakite or sourcenext releases are still the superior way to play these games on PC.
It's really a shame that they did it this way, the sourcenext versions are way better. i genuinely see no reason to buy this version of the games when a superior one exists for free, plus the HD mods work better with the sourcenext versions too, and the FMVs are higher res. All around a disappointing effort from GOG.
I actually say, and so I already did: Buy these releases. To show Capcom that there is high demand for a proper remastered classic collection on every existing platform. They refuse this demand for decades now, so it might be a lost cause. But never say never.
Purchased immediately, have to support projects like this, it's so important and i'm thrilled to be able to play these games on PC without illegal methods.
You can probably rule out a console port of these games. If it was GOG that made this possible, then that means capcom likely had no plans to even re-release these games in the first place. So they probably still don't since this was just GOG doing it.
this is such great news! I have never played the pc ports and never had a computer that could do so till now, it is like a dream come true to be able to play these games again and on my pc of all places, this is is going to be so much fun!
If a GOG team wants to make better versions of the classic RE games - they need to coordinate with the Classic REbirth team as they have already fixed many of the problems. Now the first part still has problems with lagging sounds in the videos and constantly changing frames.
I just heard over on the RE subreddit and I'm 100% going to cop it. I wanted to be able to play the OG games without messing around with emulation (I'm lazy) and preferably on PC and now I can. I love the work GOG does and I hope we might get Code Veronica from them too, but this is already great.
thank you for such a blast from the past.. i sold my N64 (with games in like 1998) to electronics boutique and had just enough for a ps1 and Resident Evil 1 directors cut.. My first taste of "adult gaming". My friends at the time use to have sleep overs and we would watch the classic George Romero zombie movies with some b rated sprinkled in for good measure. I hope future generations get to experience horror like this. Thanks for your video it was great.
This is why I buy games of GOG when I can. They do this for games to keep them around. Plus you can download the game an keep them on your own back drive, without having to install them, so you can preserve the games you buy.
A good start for the classics, but it would be nice if they were the sourcenext versions so you can play seamless hd and rebirth patch, especially considering you can download those versions right now for free with improved gameplay options
Now, imagine a future deal between Capcom and Nightdive Studios to remaster some of their classic titles that never got a PC port release (yes, I'm looking at you, Code Veronica).
I was actually thinking that if only Capcom wanted to bring back their original versions, they would call up Night Dive to restore them since they do magic on restoration. Truth is GOG did all the work and begged them to allow them to work with it. This is the best thing to happen imo but at this point, if Capcom let Night Dive have a crack at it, it would probably undermine what GOG has done. Maybe that's just me.
I love the way you say "DRM-free". Can you say it again? Oh wait, I'll just go back a couple of seconds :) RE 1-3 on GoG were an instant purchase by the way. I would also love to see RE 4 there which is easily my favourite RE of them all. But well, maybe one day we'll actually get it. As a GoG customer you have to be a little patient and sometimes this store surprises me big time!
Real happy at hearing this news! All I absolutely need for that 1st game now are mods that gives me the Arrange Difficulty from 'Director's Cut' and ink ribbons. If someone could mention if and where said mods are, I'd appreciate it! EDIT: Turns out that Ink Ribbons ARE in RE1 PC. Jill just has to beat the game once to unlock 'em and Chris has Ink Ribbons on by default.
Having all these games on PC will be so nice, I used to have them all on PS3 but I hated that I could never play them on PS4 or 5 and I didn't really wanna fork over 17 a month just to play RE1. Having this collection is so awesome on PC, not only to preserve these classics but to also give people who've maybe only played the remakes to have a chance to experience the classics without having to fork over so much cash to buy a PS1 and the games or go through the hassle of emulation.
wow this is so awesome! i have emulated them before since i don’t have physical copies but im more than happy to buy these to support the gog team. they seem like nice people.
On one hand, glad it's preserved. On the other hand, for a game that had so many dink problems across it's several versions... I'm always hoping we will just get a literal "Definitive Version" of the thing. I mean, it's been 30 years.

Every now and then, I'll replay the originals and the remakes. My favorite is a close tie between original RE 1 and the RE 2 remake. 🥰
GOG really should do these promotions more. I buy most of their classic re-released but always miss when they release. Thanks for letting us know Suzi ❤
I love GOG because you actually OWN your games, unlike any other platform.

GOOD SHIT.
Every AI restoration has the same ugly aesthetic and it's basically the modern day equivalent of colourizing black and white movies. I'm not saying it can't or hasn't be done right, but examples are few and far between.
@@xsx1113 The sole exception I can think of is the Final fantasy IX mogori mod ai upscaled assets, which are basically perrfect in recapturing that classic game feel.
@@foxxoboxxo1611Probably the biggest examples of the failure of capturing smaller details and TOTAL failure of game preservation with the use of AI is the GTA Definitive Editions.
As a 12 year old playing RE1 and 2 in 96-98, I appreciated the few seconds breather time with the doors. It let you gather yourself as you plunged deeper into the madness.
I still dig out the GameCube to get my old RE fix. I played 0,1,2,3,4, and CVX on it last year

You can preserve it on GOG when it is delisted both on store and license
IMO it’ll be better to get on GOG because you’ll own the actual game files and you could put them on a hard drive that doesn’t have your GOG account.

They just have to be making it. Would be crazy not to.

Konami lost the original games or something plus the HD remaster have alot of diferences and changes sadly no SH4
Has for the company himself aint mustly a Casino company instead of gaming?
@JohnnyFish971 even if they lost the source code, modern consoles can emulate ps1 and ps2 pretty much flawlessly, provided you unlock them/pay for dev mode
@@JohnnyFish971gog has silent hill 4
People act like emulators are the end-all be-all but they're not perfect. Especially for games created with specific console hardware in mind.
Love GOG so much. Having MGS1, 2, SWAT 4, and now the OG RE games available to play on their platform is a beautiful thing to see.

Now we just need a port of Code Veronica for PC.
That would be a dream. Would love to see mods for that
By the time I gave up trying to run the Seamless HD Project for the classic trilogy, this came along. GOG is a fucking Godsend!
Good to see these classics being preserved, RE1 is one of the three games that influenced how I continue playing games today. Thanks to it I still save ammo and health like they're precious gems even in games where it's plentiful lol.
I’ll never forget playing the first three games on PS1 in my early teens. Particularly RE1. So much nostalgia. Glad they’re being preserved.
Thank you for saying the truth. I see no point in getting these new ports.
Hi Susie I truly love your genuine love for resident evil, there’s no bullshit when it comes to your content, thank u so much.
I actually remembered you.
I used to watch your channel around 5 years ago a little bit.
Good to see you in recommendation.
I'm very happy that GOG brought the classic Resident Evil together with Capcom.
Very much hoping that the PC port of Onimusha 3 could also be brought back if Capcom allows GoG to do it.
Gonna get my stepson to play through RE2 in a few year's time. Emulate that experience when I was kid. Such a staple of my childhood.
this is such great news! I have never played the pc ports and never had a computer that could do so till now, it is like a dream come true to be able to play these games again and on my pc of all places, this is is going to be so much fun!
Finally, the TRUE RE3 being brought to modern age.
Really hope these sell well, and show Capcom what we want to see from them in the future.
Classic resident evil sign me up
While this is still absolutely amazing, it sounds to me like the sourcenext versions with classic rebirth + HD mods still hold the crown.
A good start for the classics, but it would be nice if they were the sourcenext versions so you can play seamless hd and rebirth patch, especially considering you can download those versions right now for free with improved gameplay options
Major W for Game Preservation.
I love GOG. Saving games from the abandonware graveyard one game at a time. Thanks for covering these new re-releases Sphere Hunter. :)
I love the way you say "DRM-free". Can you say it again? Oh wait, I'll just go back a couple of seconds :)
RE 1-3 on GoG were an instant purchase by the way. I would also love to see RE 4 there which is easily my favourite RE of them all. But well, maybe one day we'll actually get it. As a GoG customer you have to be a little patient and sometimes this store surprises me big time!
