Crazy to think the 5 year gap since RE2 released is almost as long as the gap between Leons events in the Raccoon City incident & Las Plagas incident/Operation Baby Eagle... The pain...
25:30 On replaying OG RE2 recently there were several scenes with Chief Irons I found incredibly unnerving and pretty shocking. After Claire speaks with Irons she receives a fax machine message which has an extensive amount of background information on Irons, it mentions in college he had several rape charges that were disappeared because he was a "top level academic". It honestly took me by surprise as it felt very realistic while also suggesting how much in danger Sherry and Claire were rather than going over the top like RE2R did.

"Have you ever wanted to own me?" Oh what an opening line. lol 10/10 Coming back with an edit. Holy crow, over 900 likes in half a day? Thanks for that, that is something I wasn't expecting.
One of my favorite things about the RE2 Remake is the fact that they gave Claire a completely different gun to start with, and then gave it upgrades that allowed it to act as her version of the magnum. Especially since it's a compact, 5-shot revolver, an absolute classic concealed carry pistol that someone traveling by motorcycle would likely carry. Also, now that the RE4 Remake has done so well and we know CAPCOM has a great grasp on the capabilities of the RE engine, it's time for them to give us what we really need: An RE engine remake of Dino Crisis.
Claire B is extra fun, balancing the different ammo types for different handguns. Maybe you want to save some for the laser-sighted one from the trunk, maybe you want to just use whatever as soon as you pick it up.
@@Phantom-kc9ly RE9 would be a good time, but CAPCOM need to stop resting on their laurels and get back into it. Dino Crisis would be amazing on the RE engine, especially with the lighting.
5 years ago, my mother was in her 3rd round of stay at the hospital and REmake 2 was a week away from coming out. A friend of mine picked me up from work and said, "With everything that was happening, let's go to game stop and get you REmake 2." Went to GameStop, put down the whole amount for the game. Got the game a week later and it was the happiest day, of a crap beginning of 2019. I still continue to play the game every other month, having Leon in his REmake 2 outfit and Claire in her Elza Walker skin. Still have fond memories of myself and my buddy, playing the game till 2 am, trying to get out of the sewers.
I really like how Leon and Claire are just genuinely good people who want to help. It’s an especially rare sight in something as angsty and depressing as a zombie outbreak setting. It also makes me appreciate Ada’s line in RE4R, “You didn’t change, Leon. You only think you did”
Oh yeah.... Leon is “so good” in the remake, that he preferred to continue with his “good cop” attitude than to help get the only living human being out of his cell, even though he explained to him the reasons why he was locked in there, but he had to talk to the police chief first in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. 😑
@MartinGonzalez-wc6oq or he wanted to confirm the story of the antsy man behind the bars before releasing someone who might be a dangerous criminal into the wild? People can lie, you know, and I'd hope even a rookie cop would be aware of that 😂
My opinion hasn’t changed in 5 years 1 - I still think we only got half a remake. Second Run was tacked on, we should’ve gotten B-scenarios, even if it was DLC. RE4 made my opinions on this stronger. 2 - Hate the RNG of zombies vs handguns. Can take between 1 and 30 bullets to the head to kill them. Luck removes strategy and skill rewards.
In the original if you were using skill and strategy, you were dodging and not shooting. It’s the same here. If you’re skilled, you’re only shooting enough to stun zombies and then running past. A good player doesn’t need to waste 30 bullets.
@@AsclepiasAcida1 no. There does come a point where hallways have multiple zombies, lickers and the tyrant patrolling. A shot to stun will alert the lickers and draw the Tyrant towards you. Having a limited supply AND random damage is poor mechanics
Same with me, but I'm gonna make another complain. Leon and Claire are so slow in this one. I've seen some zombies make a sprint that makes you question if been alive is an advantage.
My RE2R story: First playthrough. Kill all the zombies, run out of ammo multiple times, scrape through a 10 hour playthrough. Today. Run by all the zombies after I realized they are too slow to catch you, kill almost nothing. Fire my gun (singular) maybe 15 times the whole run. Finish the game in two hours.
I'm just pretty done after the police station. Really not a fan of the sewers. If it was cut and we got into the NEST straight away I wouldn't complain.
@@JoakimOtamaaI actually like the way you work through the sewers, it just doesn’t have very good enemies. I would’ve been happy if it was shorter and held back the Gammas(?) until the section where you get the flamethrower/shock gun.
the gameplay sections in the police station running from Mr. X are definitely the best in the game. I enjoy the sewers and the endgame lab but they don't even come close to that first part unfortunately
One thing that I think would've improved the game's narrative are two things: 1- More cutscenes with Leon and Claire interracting or at least walkie talkie calls. 2- Restrict Mr X to Leon's campaing and have G-Birkin be Claire's persuer. Like for the crane fight you can have Leon fighting Mr X in one platform while Claire fights Birkin in the other, making both characters help each other with their rivals.
G-Birkin being exclusive to Claire would also increase the impact of her voluntarily stepping up to fight its 3rd phase to give Annette a chance to cure Sherry. Already a powerful moment that could be much more!
I feel like some of RE2R's biggest flaws come off as the result of having to meet deadlines, though that's not coming from a place of evidence and more a place of intuition. Some of the direction and the fact that the B-Scenarios aren't much different from the A-Scenarios kinda screams of a production that simply ran out of time or budget to go the extra mile. Given what we saw with RE7's extra content or the sheer breadth of care that went into RE4R, I feel like RE2R was a project where the brakes were pumped to either meet a deadline or prevent ballooning costs. The game's got so much *good* in it, I gotta believe the developers probably saw the same flaws we do now back then. Still, RE2R is a game I personally love deeply and was what for sure got me hooked on this franchise.
That's because originally the B scenarios were not planned at all for the remake. They even announced this in interviews at the time which caused a lot of backlash from the fans. I believe they never even mentioned the "Second run" scenarios, we had to find out when the game launched basically. So yeah, it was a rushed job unfortunatly and it shows.
There were many moments in this game that made me audibly say, "Wow, I love this game" but one that really sticks out to me was when I had gotten so accustomed to the RPD building that I could explore it with ease and lose Mr. X by looping around
I've seen so many RE fans sour on this game over the years and I'm so glad to see you're still giving it the flowers it deserves. Were there missing features from the original that would've been great to have? Absolutely - but for a remake to stick the landing so hard everywhere else is more than I ever could've hoped for.
I'm actually sad knowing this game came out on 2019 and George A. Romero passed away at 2017. I'm sure he would be proud to see how the classic slow shambling zombies presented on a RE GAME prooves that you don't need running type zombies to Terrify players.
@@megatrondeadpool3116 I'm well aware, tho I'm specifically talking about this particular remake. But yes, I do enjoy his commercial for BIOHAZARD 2 in Japan, that 50 sec commercial is way better than the entire franchise of live action movies or resident evil who always fail to capture the game's atmosphere correctly without butchering them characters and story.

Pretty hard to top. OG 1 2, Remake 1. Definitely say after remaster I think it is second best but I still really love the classic style. Course there's that mod I think wasn't done last I checked that makes a classic game out or RE2r. They're pretty much even to me though and each one coming out when it did with that in consideration both 10s or 12/10 for sure. Runs like a breeze now on a 4 year old pc too.

I don't think Claire came off as stand-offish towards Sherry at all. She spoke in a kind tone, and she really sounded like she was just finding common ground with Sherry when she talked about her parents not being around.

Around the fall of 2019 me and my three close friends all got deeply addicted to this game, and while not everyone was going completionist mode- me and one of my friends were and we were *crazy* about this game. One of my favorite gaming memories is just how much we were playing and replaying and studying every corner of the game and optimizing strategies for speedruns and getting high ranks together. When it was at its strongest for me personally, when I was done with my work (I was in High School) I would just take out a piece of paper and, by memory, draw out the entire rpd map and where every item was so I could literally draw out speedrun routes and then try them out when I got home. I have almost 20 platinum trophies but I think Re2r is my favorite of them just for that experience. Very few times I’ve been that sucked into a video game even to this day. I’ve probably made it to the credits 30 times
Claire's boss fight moments, for real. In Leon's game he gets tricked and falls into the arena for G3, but Claire jumps down and you get the Western movie view of Birkin between her boots, that's awesome. That and "Ya like that? Goodbye, f***er!" in the B scenario finale make me love her.

Same here. I remember getting so hyped for it and seeing the commercials on TV then eventually seeing the Japanese commercial made by George Romero……those were the days. 😊
I'm so happy the remakes were a success, not even for me necessarily but for the younger generations and people who simply weren't there to experience it. Let's face it, the older games are a hard sell even if WE love them. Compare that to R*, the 3D remasters are inferior in every way to the original. That is NOT how I would want new players to see these classic games. Thanks for caring, Capcom.
yup. I do forget how young some of the youtubers I listen to are. @TheSphereHunter I respect your posture. Sorry for transmitting my disagreement in a rude way. I still do think your posture about the SH 2 remake being something to test the waters (the line of u hating the companies for the "if the remake goes well maybe we'll make new titles" mindset from the tweet) is a bit wrong considering there are new SH titles and a movie coming out. Ascension was utter trash tbh, and Short Message is divisive, but there's new SH stuff out there, not just the remake. SH 2 is not something to see what else they can come up with. Making possible remakes of 1 or 3? Sure, but the sole existence of SH2 remake hasn't limited new ideas within the Silent Hill IP

Hi Suzi. Wow, 5 years since the game came out. This game is simply amazing and one of my favorite games of all time. Capcom hit a home run with this game and boy it is a thrill to play this when it was released. As someone who adored the og game on the ps1, i am very happy to see this get a remake and is lives up to the hype, it is legit scary in all the right places and i highly recommend this to anyone.
The biggest gripe that I have with RE2R is one that stems back from RE2 (1998) and one they didn't fix. That was the fact that at relatively the same time frame both Claire and Leon are making their ways down to the underground lab, and not ONCE do they cross paths other than one time at the RPD. In RE2 (1998) you encounter each other in the RPD in the S.T.A.R.S. office, and in RE2R you encounter each other over near the East Wing of the Police Station when the Helicopter crashes into the building, aside from that they never cross paths, RE2R could have kept and really utilized the Zapping System to its full advantage in RE2R, but they didn't do that, and they left the major plot hole in from RE2(98), but they sure as hell remembered to add bathrooms.
I suspect they looked at the zapping system and thought it was a half-baked gimmick of its time, because in my opinion at least, it kind of is. I feel like it just doesn't come up enough in the original to make that great of an impact. They definitely should've leaned more into it, helped it reach its full potential, perhaps even added a Real Survival style mode that's separate from the actual difficulty setting. In that mode, every single pickup - from gunpowder to hip pouches - for the A scenario could be obtained by the B scenario character if A leaves it behind for B.
They probably ran out of time and money to develop more exclusive scenario events. That's why it seems like they should be in the same place at the same time. They probably wanted to explain things more and have them have different objectives but I think their budget was running thin.
@@JosephWalker-ip7pd It's not really a budget or time issue, it's more so an oversight and not really thinking things through. At least in RE1.5 Elza(Claire in RE2) and Leon NEVER cross paths and the from what I've seen is that Elza and Leon take place at different times in RE1.5 which is why when you play as Leon you find Elza's bike already crashed through the front entrance into the police station.
I remember the day this game came out. An hour after I had returned home from getting the game my area was hit with a massive snow storm. You couldn’t see five feet in front of you. I switched into some warm and comfortable clothes, fixed a cup of hot chocolate and sat and played the game for hours while my dog napped beside me. I was in awe at how incredible the game was. It was something new yet familiar. Every January I make room in my schedule to sit down and play this game. My dog is no longer with me but I like to imagine she’s still right beside my chair napping as I play. Capcom really nailed it with RE2 Remake. As for Claire’s first interaction with Sherri I don’t view it as mean or standoffish. Claire just finished fighting a monster so she’s full of adrenaline and trying to find a way to calm down and connect with Sherri. Sherri shares a negative experience so Claire responds with her own to show they’re similar and that they can trust each other. I didn’t view it as Claire attempting to overshadow Sherri’s lived experience. Trauma bonding I suppose.
Yeah that’s always been a complaint of this game, I remember the RE3 remake was praised for making Jill look much better than Claire in terms of how well she was rendered/modeled. Claire is sadly very stiff and claymation like
It's crazy to me that she refuses to play SH2R. It's so good and remakes like this are definitely needed. SH2OG was so hard to find and play legally and that's not to include the out-dated gameplay. She can call it remake fatigue but it seems more like she's being petty. That's okay, she's missing out on a dang good Horror game. As a true SH and Res fan here, we needed this!
5 years is crazy! This will always be, not only my favorite RE game, but one of my favorite games of all time. It single handily got me into RE in general and was one of my favorite gaming experiences I've ever had. Was always interested in RE as a whole but couldn't get into it until this game, forever grateful for this remake.
32:29 Regarding Claire and Sherry's dynamic, it was established in Revelations 2 that Claire was never good with children (remember how she's basically interrogating Natalia, until Moira steps in, calms Natalia, and establishes rapport), so I kinda get Claire "sounding mad" at Sherry lol.
Nah this is just wrong imo, RE2 OG clearly establishes Claire as a very "older sister" type figure with Sherry, she's calm and gentle with her and Sherry's safety is top priority. Then you get to see more of that in the first CG movie Degeneration with Rani, where again Claire puts herself directly in harms way to protect and save Rani from a whole horde of zombies (in easily one of the best badass scenes in the whole franchise, as an aside). Even in Revelations 2, Claire is still in that position with Moira, as a mentor, and I think Claire interrogating Natalia was a terrible but purposeful out-of-character miswrite to give Moira some bolstered characterization instead.
This retrospective was so great. The writing, gameplay examples, jokes and references - all had me smiling throughout. You really are the best. Much love ❤
One of the main things Capcom really needs to do is finally start tying up some of the loose ends they've created in different Resident Evil games. Like for example, the ending of Revelations 1 when the T-Abyss is seemingly in possession of some shadow organization and never heard from again, or showing us what happened with Chris between re6 and re7 or just giving us updates on characters that haven't really been seen in years. I'd take that over more remakes tbh, at least for now until the story is more complete.
4:35 I'm a little sad you didn't mention the cutscene and gameplay section that happens between Claire and Leon meeting and the arrival at the RPD. The graphics were pumped WAY up for the fire that the zombies walkthrough to get to you and the running section through the city really sets the scale to be an immense unstoppable threat waiting just outside the main building of the game.
Because of how accessible modding is, it’s fun to spice things up for re2r despite it’s been 5 years. Classic cam mod? Feels like a whole different game!
I just picked it up last week as part of a sale, along with the remake of 4 for my PS5 and the original 4 for my Switch. I have to say, this game is something else. I never played 4 (I was 8 when it came out so I wasn’t old enough, nor did I know anything about Resident Evil), and I must say, I can see what all the fuss is about. These games are creepy AF, in an exciting way.
ada's re2r va is rlly phenomenal. that timed event with annette is where they're both the best imo. it's a shame she wasn't reached out for re4r due to the strike. i have to skip ada cutscenes in re4r lol
I played RE2 for the first time in January, it was my first experience to RE besides playing about an hour of 7 when i was a kid, i’m still playing it now, i just got my first S+ rank as claire. It was one of my best experiences this year, that first playthrough made me feel fear for the first time in years. Absolutely love the franchise now and I’m trying to play as much of the series as possible. 🙏🏻
Im just going to be honest here and say despite how supremely executed RE2R feels and plays to me, I still prefer RE2 Classic, and I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the dark and moody ambient music. The soundtrack elevated RE2 Classic’s gameplay to excellent heights, while the soundtrack for RE2R is close to nonexistent at some points.
I’m playing the game on Nintendo Switch and I really like the game and I love the video games Franchise now and I can’t wait to play more in the Franchise
I know OG fans criticize the recent remakes for being too simple and diverting from the ps1 titles but this is probably the perfect entry point for newcomers to the franchise. For the longest time I was aware of Resident Evil and occasionally watched lps of the classic games by SGB or Maximilian, but never really touched them outside of playing around with RE4 on Wii. Hell, I knew nothing about the series until Nintendo Powers cover article on Umbrella Chronicles and the series' history, giving brief overviews on each main character. Anyway, RE2 Remake was announced and I had positive impressions from the RPD demo. I had such a great time with the final game when it came out and was never really overwhelmed or too scared to keep going. I can't wait to try the new GoG releases of the PS1 titles soon!
not really, classic work just fine if people get out their own ways of certain game control type being "outdated" and such, its broader in appeal but that just means generic/casual/easy too much is lost in it to really work on its own
When bonding with a stranger, sometimes it's better to find common ground rather than JUST hearing out another person. Sherry and Claire were able to bond over a shared trauma, which Sherry likely needed more than just having Claire hear her story
I agree with you on the state of remakes. It's going to take a shuffling of hands to get those AAA batteries to justify taking more risks on new content like the days of old. With that said SH2 is god tier nostalgia and if we lived in an alt-universe where a full silent hills was made, we might've seen the Remake very shortly afterward (maybe by Kojima's hand) rather than when fans have unfortunately started to gain sentience about creative stagnation.
Replaying again after two years, third playthrough. First time playing with headphones on and man, I am pissing my pants around every corner even when I should expect the scare. That alone just goes to show you how much quality went into the sound design as well as the graphics and quality-of-life improvements.
My sister snuck the original home. This was as the movies were starting. I'm so used to playing the remake as is that I forget some of the changes they made and that Tofu was in the original too.
RE2R was my first real exploration into horror. I enjoyed EVERY single moment. The tension, the atmosphere, the feeling of dread as you went into an unknown, unlit area knowing there is no easy way back. It was a super experience and now I am a fan of this type of horror.
Your outro doesn't really make sense. Both RE7 and RE8 brought very new and original ideas to the franchise. Capcom hasn't abandoned developing new games in favor of Remakes like you imply.
I literally never said capcom isn’t making new RE games I just want more NEW RE GAMES. It makes perfect fucking sense you people are seriously looking for any reason to trash me at this point. So completely obnoxious
@TheSphereHunter I'm not trashing you. I just disagree with your take on remakes. Directing your criticism to developers who are still steadily releasing new and original entries just seems weird, imo. Especially when both the new entries and remakes are maintaining such a high quality.
@@TheSphereHunteras a content creator, you should have way thicker skin. The above person didn’t trash you, just appears you can’t take any form of criticism or people who disagree with you. That seems way more obnoxious.
Durability in games sucks when it's just a busy work mechanic. When you have actual finite resources in the game world it's generally fine, imo. The way knives worked in RE2R effectively just gave them ammo like any other weapon.

Also, now that the RE4 Remake has done so well and we know CAPCOM has a great grasp on the capabilities of the RE engine, it's time for them to give us what we really need:
An RE engine remake of Dino Crisis.
Claire B is extra fun, balancing the different ammo types for different handguns. Maybe you want to save some for the laser-sighted one from the trunk, maybe you want to just use whatever as soon as you pick it up.
@jamesarthurkimbell the JmB handgun from the trunk won't fire the big bullets. Only the upgraded revolver.
It's time for Resident Evil 9.
@@Phantom-kc9ly RE9 would be a good time, but CAPCOM need to stop resting on their laurels and get back into it. Dino Crisis would be amazing on the RE engine, especially with the lighting.

RE 2 remake 5 years old yet I remember playing the OG back in 1998. Felt like yesterday
I can feel how much she held herself back from playing the "X gonna give it to you" track when she first mentioned Mr. X. 😂
5 years ago, my mother was in her 3rd round of stay at the hospital and REmake 2 was a week away from coming out. A friend of mine picked me up from work and said, "With everything that was happening, let's go to game stop and get you REmake 2."
Went to GameStop, put down the whole amount for the game.

My opinion hasn’t changed in 5 years
1 - I still think we only got half a remake.
@@Capta1nAsh i agree with you. The RNG is absolutely ridiculous.
Still 10/10 game get gud
My RE2R story:
First playthrough.
I will never get tired of playing RE2 remake, something to do with Mr. X chasing you throughout the police station never gets old.
It got old for me quick. The stalker mechanic has been overused and has overstayed its welcome.
i wish i could enjoy it that much i feel like the game get worse every time i replay it
One thing that I think would've improved the game's narrative are two things:
1- More cutscenes with Leon and Claire interracting or at least walkie talkie calls.
2- Restrict Mr X to Leon's campaing and have G-Birkin be Claire's persuer. Like for the crane fight you can have Leon fighting Mr X in one platform while Claire fights Birkin in the other, making both characters help each other with their rivals.
Having both characters fight four armed G-Berkin and have the wife die also needed to be different. How do both fight it and watch the wife die?
The lack of scenarios is what kept RE2R from being perfect for me.
It’s an overrated game
@SolidSnake240 I remember the backlash IGN got but they were basically right.
It’s my understanding that RE3R was made concurrently with RE2R, which prevented the developers from fully realizing either game.

What's the plot hole they left in?
5 years later and I still think the Resident Evil 2 remake is the best one.

I love Resident Evil 2 Remake, but I still think Resident Evil Remake (2002) remains as the best video game remake.

To be a little fair, even Nick himself stated he cringes at his delivery in that moment too.

I had such a great time with the final game when it came out and was never really overwhelmed or too scared to keep going. I can't wait to try the new GoG releases of the PS1 titles soon!
not really, classic work just fine if people get out their own ways of certain game control type being "outdated" and such, its broader in appeal but that just means generic/casual/easy
too much is lost in it to really work on its own
When bonding with a stranger, sometimes it's better to find common ground rather than JUST hearing out another person.
Sherry and Claire were able to bond over a shared trauma, which Sherry likely needed more than just having Claire hear her story
Just discovered you from my man grimbeard, you got a very extensive breakdown of resident evil which i am all for. Consider me in!
6:20 That's why I always used the classic original music setting! NEVER the new music.
Damn, we are old! 5 years? Seemed like yesterday
Suzi, you can't come out here with opening lines like that, wearing that outfit. It just is not fair

Wait, remakes are actually good now?
Always were.
The true horror is that its already 5 years 😮💨
RE2 Remake is a great game, but nothing will ever top the original as far as I'm concerned.
We get, you like the original more.
Me outside: And that's good!
Me inside: But it's so much more tragic in Remake 😢
Minecraft graphics with fixed camera angles just isn't for me
One of the best Resident Evil/Remakes/game ever made. Loved playing this game multiple times.
That seems way more obnoxious.

were u just engagement farming????
oh wow never thought about that, imma bout to leave now
Which part?
Thanks Suzi for a trip down the nostalgia lane, 5 years already and it feels just crazy. Halloween is around the corner so it's RE1 Remake time again!
Love how you highlighted the score to RE2R. Forgot how awesome it was, has the epic CVX feel combined w/ RE2OG themes in terms of music
31:28 "Claire-ity"
Durability in games sucks when it's just a busy work mechanic. When you have actual finite resources in the game world it's generally fine, imo. The way knives worked in RE2R effectively just gave them ammo like any other weapon.
Nerrel was right all along 😮
The whole "interconnecting map" is really well done in Ghost of a Tale! You don't realise it but suddenly you're behind that door that was locked from the other side. Such a huge impact on exploration!
RE2 remake is probably one of the best reimagining of the first one released PS1 back in the 90s which I got on launched and played all night till I fell asleep.
The remake allowed me to relive that moment years later and just smiled ear to ear while playing it. I have sinced bought it on Steam and replaying again on my ROG Ally. I’m not getting tired of it either
34:45 how is this a bad thing? I think Capcom was trying to Bridge the gap with the wisecracking Leon of RE4. First signs of his copping mechanism
damn 20 seconds after the release of the video people are already here
This remake spawned a frenzy of playing all the resident evil games, I think remake is still my favorite
I turned the classic bgm option on after like 5 minutes. You explained it perfectly
