I crabbed just like that on the Pamlico river. Started dropping pots in April. Not large amounts to start but the price made it worth starting then. Mostly Sooks or female bluecrab #3 in the sound. In the river during summer I made most of my money on the jimmy crab. The male #1 grade crab. I miss it. You stay healthy and its a beautiful place to soul search and find your kind of meaning. Deep but true. Rock on Brother !!!
OMG I was born and raised in Baltimore MD. I live in Ohio now, but I cant wait to get back home each summer to fish, crab and taste the sweet seafood that only the bay can offer
My dad was a crab fisherman from Engelhard in Hyde County... (but back then we hauled our pots by hand) - and surprised there isn't a trap door on the bait pouch... (but I guess there isn't a need for one now) PS : These look like Cox crab pots !
I believe the way he throws it, lands with the open bait part bottom side down so as the trap sinks the weight sinks trap and the frozen fish ( bait) kinda floats up then trap sits on bottom sealing the opening to the bay bottom.

Living on the water looks like a lot of work but you are a freebird Thanks for sharing.
Beats going to an office or factory everyday but you aren't as free as you'd think.

Hope to buy some of your crabs. Let me know when you have big ones.
What stops the bait from falling out the trap?
Great stuff continued success.
What keeps you from losing your bait, without a bait door?
