Have you ever seen the real old timey (30s/40s) films of commercial tuna fishing?? They use huge 10-12ft long bamboo poles with no reels and only about 15-20ft of line. And the hooks have no barbs! They just hoist them (15-100lb fish) over their heads and the hook comes right out! Awesome to see if you haven't.

Thanks for showing your followers and future followers a small piece of the enigma that commercial fishing industry is. I fished commercially for over ten years out of Stock island lobster. So many hours go into the final results. Some people think that you just get out on the water and ta dah! You catch anything you want to and just as many as you want then go back and sell it for the prices you want. It's one of the hardest jobs in the world. Yes sir I would love to get back out there doing it again just because the ocean is my happy place and I love love love the Job.

Very informative! Thanks! You're making a difference!
Ohio State University Journalism 101: 1) Know your audience 2) Ask obvious question accordingly in the form of who, what, when, where, how & why.
Fishermen/women are your targeted audience who want to know where is your location, how far off from shore, why the location was chosen, can you count on it daily, what is the fish food being used, cost, what kind of pole, hook size, bait on hook, are yellowtail the only targeted species, are all size fish mixed up in one spot, could you cast further to get the bigger yellowtail who are smarter & cautious, when do you quit, expenses that offset potential profit, etc.
WHAT YOU HAVE INVESTIGATED IS INFORMATIVE, BUT MAXIMIZE YOUR TIME WITH PREPAREDNESS THAT GOES BEYOND FILLER CHIT-CHAT. THE GUYS ARE BEARING DOWN ON THEIR WORK, SO SHOULD YOU TO THE SAME DEGREE. NONETHLESS, YOU DID OKAY, BUT NEED TO HIT THE BULLSEYE WITH PREPAREDNESS & APPREHENDING AUDIENCE QUESTIONS. YOU WILL INCREASE YOUR SUBSCRIBERSHIP ACCORDINGLY.

Dude yeller tail fishin really is an art. No other ocean fish is as skittish. We would set up a chum block and use a like half inch long hook drift it back in the chum slick with a single tiny split shot. And like 100 yards behind the boat the bigger yellow tail would be schooled up. And if they could see your hook they would not bite at all.

Nice going. I lived in the Virgin Islands for a few years. I had a trick to get a yellow tail every time I went out inshore fishing. I used a floating Yozuri crystal minnow. Dark. Rattle. I had a small skiff. Troll around the rocks. Slow. 100’ of line out. As the lure just passes the rocks it’s fish on. I could catch 10 and sell or give away 7. The kingfish were fun. Mahi Mahi and tuna were a common catch. It was fun for too long.

Thanks for sharing this video. As someone that only fishes for fun, it’s nice to see the other end. I’ll appreciate the work that goes into the next yellowtail snapper meal I eat in a restaurant. Great content, keep up the fantastic work.

Very cool to see that side of the fishing. Yes most people don't know where the fish comes from. So nice to see that and it's all about ethically sourced renewable resource. And fishing like that shows it.

Love that they fish sustainable with cane pole style rather than creating a chum slick then circling the fish with a large net to capture the entire school of fish. Kudos to them.

It was always my dream to be a commercial fisherman. In the early 90s I had a chance to help an old gillnetter on the lower fraser River during a sockeye opening. He had built his boat in 1959 from scratch and fished the same piece of river for decades. He needed someone with him because he only had one eye. We fished the slack tide for 3 hours and caught 72 salmon.
