    Lorry reversing up a hill is doing it as the lower ratio going in reverse provides more pulling(pushing) power with the full weight of the lorry and load being located over the rear wheels. You often get better “torque” trying to reverse uphill in snow too - cars well as vans and lorries (that was a bit of impressive reversing too)

    • @73Datsun180B
      @73Datsun180B 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is hardly a hill, does that truck only got a 3hp briggs and stratton engine in it? No vehicles have a lower reverse ratio, common myth and especially a truck with crawler gears! Also a rwd car would prefer to be driven up a snowy hill as opposed to a fwd car!

    • @gopnikolai7483
      @gopnikolai7483 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wrong, wrong, and a big smelly pile of wrong lmao. I'm a HGV mechanic before you jump the gun.
      -It has nothing to do with 'torque' whether you reverse or drive forwards up a hill, only traction is relevant, as first gear (and maybe crawler gears depending on the wagon) is perfectly fine.
      -RWD vehicles gain more traction driving forwards uphill, because the weight shifts to the rear, so he wouldn't be reversing up for that reason. That's why FWD's are shit at launching, and wheel hop, because all the weight leaves the front of the car. That's also why FWD's are better in snow, and why you might be better reversing a RWD in snow, because the weight shifts away from the driven wheels, and doesn't allow the tyres to dig into the floor. FWD's do a better job of 'gliding' over the top of the snow. Why the fuck would you reverse up in a RWD in good conditions for more traction, making the weight shift AWAY from where you want more traction?
      -Loaded or unloaded, he shouldn't have ANY trouble getting up that 'hill', which is hardly a hill... I've seen steeper car parks. Either way, but especially if he's loaded, he's better going forward, and if he's really struggling at any point, he needs a run-up, or to use his diff lock on straights, if the wagon has one. Again, gears, if the retard was driving forwards like he should be, he'd be happily tootling up that hill probably in about 6th or 7th gear.
      Aaaaannnnd after a quick look on google maps, would you look at that. The survey says: Driver's a fucking idiot. Rather than use any of the lay-bys and turn-ins, further down the area in the video, but before he reaches the bridge, he's used his massive brain and decided to reverse almost a mile up the road, blocking one lane of traffic, and endangering or at least confusing all the traffic, before he finally has to reverse onto a roundabout to turn around and find the correct route that he and his company should've planned in the first place. It's not even like it's temporary problem or something new that's cropped up... it's a decades-old railway bridge.

    3.10 Totally disagree. Polo wasn’t “barrelling” and had complete right of way. An indicator doesn’t give you priority. And the fact the Volvo pulled out, braked, watched the accident and then took off confirms he knew he made an error. Mirror, signal, manoeuvre.

    #5 - the Polo is clearly at fault for not paying attention but the Volvo also shoulders some of the blame for moving out when the lane was occupied. Yes they indicated but they assumed the Polo was moving over for them when they weren't, so the Polo had to take evasive action. The Polo should have seen and dealt with it a lot sooner, but assuming people will make space and pulling out even when they're approaching in your mirrors is not a good idea.

    • @georgebarnes8163

      @@georgebarnes8163 watch the video again and think about if you were driving the silver car, what do you see? The white car 2 cars in front enters the roundabout signalling left and begins to take the left exit, that is when the silver car enters the roundabout and it has made it half a car length out when the black car appears from behind the white one, enters the roundabout far too fast and also crossing straight over the middle and goes straight at the side of them. The roundabout WAS clear when the silver car pulled out. Do you have to give way to the right even for people who haven't even reached the roundabout yet? (No)

    • @georgebarnes8163
      @georgebarnes8163 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MikeWalls7829 Irrelevant, the vehicle approaching from the right has priority, end of story. You have to give way to traffic approaching from the right regardless if they are on the roundabout or not, read the rules on roundabouts, there is no mention of traffic ON the roundabout but APPROACHING the roundabout.

    • @shm5547
      @shm5547 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@georgebarnes8163 mike is right. There are three laws that govern mini-roundabout use:
      1. give priority to the right to vehicles ON the carriageway of the roundabout
      2. keep left of the white circle marking
      3. give way at the white circle marking to traffic on the roundabout
      unfortunately, the highway code doesn't really explain the law particularly well and not many people bother to read the actual legislation. A lot of people mistakenly think that they get priority if they are approaching from the right, even if they've not yet crossed onto the roundabout. That encourages many drivers to approach mini-roundabouts at an inappropriate speed.

    The white van at 1.50 cut in front of the hgv who was a bit rude. He pulled in front of the lorry that was slowing down due an obstruction ahead and the van pulled into his braking space. The white van didn't look and i am sure that he (like most drivers) didn't realise that lorries cannot stop on the spot.

    As a lorry driver, if you have mirrors in the right places AND you pay attention to them, you can avoid many of the accidents shown on this channel. The only blind spot, on a properly set up lorry, is immediately behind the lorry. This doesn't excuse the car drivers for not driving defensively and/or driving stupidly.
    I drove professionally for more than 20 years. Few accidents, but not one "At Fault" accident. The only accidents I did have were during snow storms, while I was driving a snowplow (in Canada) and the car drivers did something wrong (Usually not paying attention or 'forgetting' there's snow on the road ahead of a plow).
    19:34 I wouldn't have stopped because you're not supposed to stop in an active lane on the motorway (highway to me). Should an accident occur, you would be at least partially at fault. Also, I prefer not to get rear ended by another vehicle, at motorway speeds, who is not paying attention. Leave that car to get himself out of the pickle of his own making.

    #16 Deep water may do more than just stop the engine. It can totally wreck the engine resulting in writing off the car.

    • @buzz2b2000
      @buzz2b2000 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was taught if you have to drive through deep water, then reverse this creates a bow wave at the front(back of vehicle), lowering the water level (momentarily) at the back where your air intake now is.
      and you are absolutely right, sucking up water into the engine will cause 'hydraulicing' as a liquid cannot be compressed and that weakens the con rod, all may appear ok after removing the water and getting the engine started, but it will likely fail soon after ( personal experience)

    There seems to be a tendency for cammers to react with the car horn rather than the brakes, always convinced that they’re in the right. It’s alright to drive defensively and give way sometimes you know guys. Getting angry only effects your driving and judgement.

    7:08 If the tree was in good health then there is liability on the landowner. If the tree was rotten or otherwise not good it is the landowner's responsibility to sort it. Insurance companies generally just pay out via the victim's insurance as the cost of making as decision as to who was responsible is simply not worth while. Used to be called "Knock-for-Knock" settlement.

    #29 I really don't understand the comments on this. The white Merc(?) drove impeccably. It indicated (and cancelled) before moving between each lane and carried out correct MSM. The ONLY reason they needed to move from the outside lane “at the last minute” was because of, and to avoid, the RTC (car spinning and colliding with the central reservation) directly in front of him!!!!

    Don’t make assumptions about what people can do, should do, can see and don’t see especially when it comes to clip 1. Driving a large vehicle has restricted visual areas that no matter how many mirrors or cameras they won’t always help you. The truck was indeed a left hand driven so which increases visual impairment. Point being in clip 1 don’t loiter around large vehicles especially when you have the power and versatility to move around and away from potential danger.

    #33 - yes, he's an idiot for leaving it so late to merge in, but it's also up to the other drivers on the road to consider the safety of everyone and not let their egos get the better of them - just slow down and let them in, one car in front of you is not going to make any difference to your journey time and everyone gets home that night. Even the cammer was saying "cut him off". Stupid attitude.

    • @MW54-jb9tb
      @MW54-jb9tb 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You might as well say "It's up to other drivers to consider the fact I want to drive like an absolute moron" Technically, that is sort of true I suppose, we should always be paying attention to others around us however, that was 100% on the driver merging. When i merge anywhere, it couldn't be simpler, it's 100% on me to make sure I can fit into the lane I need to get into, I either put my foot down, or I slow down, it couldn't be simpler.
      With that being said, every day I see drivers that can't even manage to join from a slip road, it's truly baffling why these sort of people think they have the right to be on the roads.

      #33 He wasnt saying cut hm off, he was saying "just go" which is what I would have done before that point. My instincts there would have been that stopping in the fast lane must be avoided at all costs. If he hadn't pulled in within a second or so I would have driven round him. I would have also stayed much further back earlier on to give them a wide bearth so I would never have got in to the situation where I had to choose between stopping in the fast lane or driving around him leaving him stranded there. He would have pulled back in much sooner no doubt because he would have seen he has plenty of space to do so before I got near him. He may have hesitated because he didn't know if the cammer car was going to stop and let him in. He probably also stalled by the looks of it as he probably wasn't planning on completely stopping! Although if I had ended up right in front of him after he stopped and being forced to choose between leaving him stranded and letting him through it depends on whether traffic was also stopped behind me. If no traffic behind there is no doubt I would have carried on for fear of someone smashing in to the back of me. If there was traffic behind then I might have waited a SLIGHT amount of time longer depending on how many cars behind but I doubt I would ever have stopped I would have slowed down to a crawl at the slowest to give more time before I reached him and had to decide

      I'm not sure it's entirely fair to blame the Golf. If you look ahead of the Golf just before the moment of impact, it looks like another vehicle has just started to pull out into Lane 3 ahead of the Golf, and the Golf may have been braking to avoid it.
      Ultimately a lesson to all, if you see everyone ahead starting to brake, be prepared to have to slow/stop suddenly.

    • @lxdimension
