Yup, I live 20 min away from Toronto and yet have never been up to the CN Tower because of the admission fee. I think it's also not that impressive to your friends or coworkers when you visit local tourist sites (not that you should worry about impressing your friends or anyone for that matter anyway), but because it's something that everyone around you has done, so you feel like it's not that exciting. The upside is that as a local, you've discovered a lot of hidden gems in your city over the years

@@nexttsar You're really quick to judge. We know almost nothing about him. Just in case anyone pops over here about the Richelieu library : it's affiliated to the INHA (Institut National d'Histoire de l'Art -- National Institute of Art History) and you indeed need a student card to access it (only if you're in a Art History Masters degree, you cannot access it if you're studying anything else or in any degree lower) but they do sometimes let people in just to look ; as a visitor you will not get far beyond the entrance door. But you can still see it... And yes, it's absolutely gorgeous.
Was so lucky to have visited as an international art history student when I came over for a study trip. So beautiful inside, I wish more people could see it!
You can go as a researcher too, if you need to consult their collection. It's very old fashioned as a system. I am pretty sure they have open doors days on Heritage Day (journées du patrimoine) and other occasions
4 years ago I went to Paris on a school trip and my favourite memory was visiting Les Arenes de Lutece, it was a little impromptu visit totally off our schedule and we ended up playing a huge game of soccer with these little french kids. it was such a cool but slightly strange moment to be in a completely different country I'd never been to before, playing with kids who didn't understand english, but still somehow getting along and hanging out!!
Jardin Aplin is free! The entrance is a little annoying to find but it's definitely open, I was just there haha.... Next time you'll hopefully find it, it's worth it!!
As a fellow Parisian who's lived there for four years, this is soooo inspirational cause even though I did most things, I had no idea about the jardin alpin. Thanks Damon and Chloe!
6:15 she has a point. we need to stop labeling food as good and bad, rather call them more or less nutrition dense. Just because cake is unhealthy, doesn't mean you shouldn't partake in celebrations. I wish I could like this comment one hundred times. You are absolutely correct. Food is meaningful and pertains abundantly to one's overall quality and experience of life.
I am just dying to go to Paris! I’ve been learning French, doing duolingo, reading French fiction short stories, watching tons of French videos and just trying to get as much exposure to the language as possible! I’m hoping by probably 2022 when COVID lets me travel stress free lol I’ll be fluent
Girl you will! Also, if you want to talk with natives try Hellotalk- it's a language exchange app. I use it for Italian and enjoy it. Sometimes u get interesting people to talk with and you are both correcting each other's languages. And everyone i talked to on there has been nice. Well i want to be fluent in italian and spanish and then learn french( or at least be conversational for travel ) so we will see if i get there! hahaah. If you do want to learn Italian one day everyone says it is SOO similar especially in grammar to Italian only big thing of course is pronunciation. But, Italian pronunciation for the most part is easier than french
I love getting to see you go to places in Paris that you haven’t been to or don’t normally go to. I was hoping to visit Paris this year but my plans were dashed by the pandemic and everything so now I have to live vicariously through you.
17:40 Why are Americans still using the imperial system, where globalization is at its peak and they're the only country who doesn't use the metric one?? Mysteries of the world Damon, mysteries of the world. Loved the vlog, you've got such a unique style at editing, I bow to you!
Loved this video! I spent 8 months working in Paris in 2018, which involved a weekly commute from London, so I only really got to explore the city on weekday evenings. But I did end up falling in love with the place - and particularly the Rive Gauche (Left Bank), which I note you disparaged as 'old, wealthy and boring', lol! You failed to mention that most of the colleges and universities (e.g. the Sorbonne) in Paris are in this area, too (i.e. south of the river, not north) and so it has a large population of students and young people, and a corresponding number of venues, e.g. bars, that cater for them, so the nightlife in some areas of, say, the 5th Arrondissement, can be very good. (I loved the fact that you ate your pastry on Place De La Contrascarpe, which was one of my absolute favourite places to hang out in the evenings (usually at 'La Contrascarpe' bar-restaurant, which can be seen behind you in those shots), as it is pretty-much the epicentre of night-life in the 5th Arr., along with Rue Mouffetard and Rue Descartes, which connect with it.) This area also has far fewer tourists than areas north of the river - e.g. Le Marais, Chatelet, Monmartre - and this is a *very good thing* IMO :) Of course, gay nightlife tends to be found mostly around Le Marais, although it's fairly low-key and spread-out, and without a well-defined centre (from what I could tell...), unlike e.g. London. Regarding the disused elevated railway you walked along, London has one of those too, called The Parkway, which runs between Finsbury Park and Highgate, and is very tranquil and picturesque. I never walked along the one in Paris, but now I know it exists, I will put it on my list for places to see on my next visit :) I found it quite hilarious when you were led around in circles by the signs in the botanical gardens, as that sooooo reminded me of one thing I found absolutely *INFURIATING* about Paris - the badly-designed and confusing signage, especially in train and metro stations! A person could easily be brought to the brink of a *complete psychological meltdown* trying to navigate the warren of tunnels, passageways and escalators in some of the large transport hubs, such as (the infamous) Chatelet-Les-Halles or (the almost-as-infamous) Gare-du-Nord, because the signage is so shockingly bad and misleading! Firstly, signs are *tiny* (compared to UK public transport, at least); secondly, there is way too much signage everywhere, which is actually a *bad* thing when different signs within the same area seem to *contradict* each other; thirdly, individual signs can have ambiguous meanings - e.g. does a down-arrow on a sign mean 'continue down this passageway' or 'go down the stairs/escalator ahead'? (Actually, I discovered that could mean *either* of those things, depending on the location and the whim of the person who installed the sign!) And in a station as large and nightmarishly complicated as Chatelet-Les-Halles *this is not helpful*! Anyway, rant over, lol :) Thanks again for the videos - I really enjoy them, and they make me feel nostalgic for my time in Paris. I am envious of your command of French, btw; I only mastered the basics (though I am told my accent was impeccable, lol!). And congratulations on getting your visa renewed for another four years! Hopefully this means I can look forward to four more years of videos :)
I also live in Paris : through your "American" eyes/point of view (?) I realised how beautiful my city is Thank you for that Un plaisir de regarder tes vidéos 😉
dude why aren't you on Netflix again??? or better yet freakin Arte. the editing on these and the amount of details is honestly outstanding. almost as outstanding as the number of times your ex is mentioned but hey we live for that shit (as well as the outtakes, god bless)
The old Ferris Wheel in the Park was also great. I stayed in the 1st Arrondissement with my daughter when she was a young teen. Every late June/July night we would get an ice cream and ride the wheel at sunset - which is almost 10:00pm. I have great photos of everything in the area from the wheel and we both have great memories. We live in NYC and it needs a wheel like this. The old clunker wheel was really inexpensive to ride. Paris is so beautiful and the colors in daylight are rarely ever harsh.

I've been living in Paris for 4 years and i've never even heard of that first place...You've probably already been but if you like Ledru Rollin you should go to the produce markets at Place D'Aligre (on everyday of the week apart from Monday) it's one of the best in Paris. Quick comment regarding the Before Christ/After Death thing. While BC/AD is still widely used, there is a push to start using Before Common Era (BCE) and Common Era (CE) instead. Things take time to pick up though, and old habits die hard lol. Also, love your content. I'm so envious of you. I visited Paris November 2019 for a thesis research trip and it was truly amazing. I wish I could live there.
This weirdly reminds me of that time I was in Paris and wanted to go to Le Marais (for no particular reason) and got lost and somehow found myself in Montmartre.... Anyhow, love the idea of exploring new spots in the city that you live in!!

every one of your paris vids gives me such nostalgia, i miss it so much! if you wan to check out some more greenhouses you should hit up le jardin des serres d'auteil near the bois de boulogne! it's free too which is a plus
BC and Ad are old terms, historians shiz now use BCE before common era and CE common era but they are just replacements for bc and ad, still centres on the death of jc
The entrance of the journal is hidden in the jardin botanique, but you have to go under a kind of tunnel that brings you to it ☺️ and wow that intro was so JC Van Damme, love it
For interests sake, I believe non-religious people commonly use BCE and CE now which mean before common era and common era but I think they are defined in the same way. Also scientists usually use specific periods of time (e.g. Jurassic period) which are just defined by how long ago from the present they happened. If anyone is at all interested 🤪
These places (first part) are sooo familiar to me. I lived 10 years in this neighborhood (rue Mouffetard), and my ex girlfriend worked near the entrance of the arènes de Lutèce.
I also live in Paris : through your "American" eyes/point of view (?) I realised how beautiful my city is
Thank you for that
Un plaisir de regarder tes vidéos 😉
"I did have an ex here"
what? no! shut up! really? was he french? this is new never heard before information
dude why aren't you on Netflix again??? or better yet freakin Arte. the editing on these and the amount of details is honestly outstanding. almost as outstanding as the number of times your ex is mentioned but hey we live for that shit (as well as the outtakes, god bless)
I just adoooore your content, you even inspired me to start my own channel, thank you so much and keep up the great work! 🥺❤️
Damon you’re one of those people who know how to live and i love how your videos turn out. Watching your videos makes me wanna explore the world.
For someone who lost her purse, Chloe looks super chill about it. Btw, did she finally find it?
She said she didnt in another comment :(
The old Ferris Wheel in the Park was also great. Paris is so beautiful and the colors in daylight are rarely ever harsh.
i truly did not want this video to end.
one of the people who saved my 2020: damon dominique
I just started watching your videos like maybeeee a month or two months ago? and they all are such high quality. I always end up feeling more inspired after watching these :)
I lived near ledru-rollin last year and I’m so glad someone has mentioned the coulée verte because it is one of my favourite places I paris! Also the marché d’Aligre near by is a really good reasonable price market :))
dayum damon... the level of beauty and whimsicality in this video is ASTRONOMICAL. and I gotta say for me, watching your vlog is therapeutic and tormenting at the same time. It reminds me how much I miss this city...wow, it's a long way to say merci trop trop.
When she anxiously pulled out them tangled up headphones! Baby I lost it! 😂💀 Basically my life right now...
When you walked passed the house playing music! My heart melted and now I’m buying a plane ticket to Paris.
Damon stop you’re only making me want to leave America more 🥺
Just do it, you only live once and will never get this time of being young back
Manuel Macias it’s easier said than done 😭
@@manuelmacias6093 wanna sponsor my Visa 👀
addierockagirl I’m from the US too sadly :/
@@manuelmacias6093 i will finish school at age of 27 so i cant do anything like that while being young😢
I adore your comedic Sass. I visited Paris once and fell in love with it's charm. Now you make me want to return. Crossing fingers and toes that I do.
I never knew Paris was named Letecia. And that view from the Ferris wheel looked stunning!
I’m thankful that I visited Paris Nov 2019, RIGHT before this whole virus mess. I love your videos!
Damn, Damon flexes on us with his French AND his cartwheels 😂
I am livingggg for this content!
I now have even more things to add to my list of things I need to do and see in Paris! The list never ends and I've been living here for 2 years. Love this city ♥
“Who would want to go to the states right now?!” HAHA TRUU. Get me outta hereeeeee!
Why is it so bad right now ?
Ikr
Julien Bee it’s always been bad (at least in my experience) but everywhere has its qualms so..🤷🏽♀️ I wanna relocate somewhere so if y’all have any places a Black person could feel comfortable in besides England (I have family there, the vibes not for me) lemme know 😗
@@krisu3441 Well from what I've seen Black people live pretty damn good here in Paris, like I'm not saying there isn't any racism at all but it's sooo much less than the US, most black friends or acquaintances I have here all say it's great.
i literally waisted my teen years being sad that i don’t live in usa and now i feel so stupid for this😭
chloe is totally me on a ferris wheel. only been on one once and then never again. THANK YOU
I've been living in Paris for 4 years and i've never even heard of that first place...You've probably already been but if you like Ledru Rollin you should go to the produce markets at Place D'Aligre (on everyday of the week apart from Monday) it's one of the best in Paris. Also, Chez Janou is a very cute restaurant at night, especially now with the outdoor seating.
Been to both and recommend both!!!
Great stuff as ever young Damon! Crazy how Paris lures people in, I was your age when I lived there but, that, was a long time ago! Thanks!
From grey, wet & humid Ireland! ☘️☮️🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮️☘️
I'm over here liking every comment cause this community is just so damn funny lol!
me every time! 😂
omg me rn 😅
I don’t know how people hate Paris. My heart flutters watching you walk around. My first summer not there . I plan on moving for six months to a year at the very least while I’m in my 30s . Thank God for remote work 🙌🏽😂
11/10 cartwheel 👏🏼
Liked the cartwheels, the bucket hat, the camo pants and the goat cheese salad. Brought back goat cheese memories.
"who would want to go to the states nowadays" I'm trying to leave ah. Got into grad school in London but had to defer so we out here suffering
got into a school in Paris but had to defer so I also am out here suffering
saME hunny
Piper Leigh what school?
Prince Diop Paris college of art 🥰
Piper Leigh congrats tho!! I’m putting all my hope into 2021 so I’m hoping I’ll be able to leave the us for a good amount of time
This is the video that I didn't know I needed, but that I needed, but I know I needed it, but still need
Oh nooo, Damon, you have to cover your nose with that mask :o I was nervous the entire Patisserie-scene :D
Damon's videos are SUCH a pleasure to watch - like sooooo beautiful!!
le montage est tellement dynamique
The video quality, the color grading, the editing, the content, the humour! DAMN
nobody:
damon: u know? i had an ex😌😔😳😵
I've lived in Paris for the past 10 years ( im french) and im watching this the day i moved to a new city, reminding myself of how little i know paris
Was going to bed when something told me I should open TH-cam... Of course I somehow knew Damon had dropped another bomb as video
The way that that Grande Roue grew on you guys deserves an Oscar!! Completely tied the whole film together.
when Damon grabbed the bottom of his shoe 16:04 and then proceeded to stick that hand all over his face and blow kisses from it......... O____o
Love you Damon just don't catch the COVID
I ve been on the wheel 2 years ago. May 2018. Sky and the view was just. Amazing.
Out of curiosity, what was the thesis on?
this video was BEAUTIFUL and the sheer joy within it/beauty brought tears to my eyes this morning!
Can we talk about Damon touching the sole of his shoe and then immediately touching his face 😭
@@danika9448 Just because he has a good immune system doesn't mean it's not gross.
I used to love walking along the the Promenade Plantee, it was a little escape from the city, as well as being able to look into people's apartments!
No One:
Damon trying to put on his bucket hat on the stairs
This weirdly reminds me of that time I was in Paris and wanted to go to Le Marais (for no particular reason) and got lost and somehow found myself in Montmartre....
Anyhow, love the idea of exploring new spots in the city that you live in!!
do you know how FAST I will be getting myself to Paris once quarantine lifts
i honestly want to pack my bags and move there and devour my savings because i wont be able to get a job and wont get an apartment, but heck it'll be worth it.
@@Wooplot do it. DO IT. I have the same plan lmao but hopefully securing some freelance work before hand, and then scouring airbnb for an apartment
@@b.allamedia Yeah i think airbnb or other similar rental is a good way to go! more expensive but you avoid the hassles of getting a proper rental.
You and me sis
everytime you upload i get so excited and I'm never disappointed. like production quality: AMAZING humor: PERFECT editing: EXQUISITE....you...a star....anyways just though u should know that i love you & ur channel
You don't need to pay to get into the Jardin botanique, the entrance is separate from the zoo (the ménagerie). Maybe it's closed in August though
It's often closed, because it is so fragile. And you need to pay on week-ends though.
i love europe so much. u always hear cutleries and music in the background
park r this is just 1 city in 1 country.
Will the cartwheel be a permanent intro? It should be
Yes!!!
every one of your paris vids gives me such nostalgia, i miss it so much! if you wan to check out some more greenhouses you should hit up le jardin des serres d'auteil near the bois de boulogne! it's free too which is a plus
BC and Ad are old terms, historians shiz now use BCE before common era and CE common era but they are just replacements for bc and ad, still centres on the death of jc
these are the BEST made videos on TH-cam, literally sensational filming and editing. Thank you!
Damon talks about his ex
Every single subscriber: HES DOING IT AGAIN
The entrance of the journal is hidden in the jardin botanique, but you have to go under a kind of tunnel that brings you to it ☺️ and wow that intro was so JC Van Damme, love it
WE DON’T TALK ABOUT FOUR LOKOS HERE THIS IS OUR SAFE SPACE
I don't think there is a single Damon Dominique video that has disappointed, it just keeps getting better and better
I just can’t understand why Damon doesn’t have a Navigo card.
yeeeees DAMON TAKE A NAVIGO CARD YOU IDIOT
For interests sake, I believe non-religious people commonly use BCE and CE now which mean before common era and common era but I think they are defined in the same way. Also scientists usually use specific periods of time (e.g. Jurassic period) which are just defined by how long ago from the present they happened. If anyone is at all interested 🤪
the fact that was all notice how much he mentions his ex 😂😂
These places (first part) are sooo familiar to me. I lived 10 years in this neighborhood (rue Mouffetard), and my ex girlfriend worked near the entrance of the arènes de Lutèce. I went to the Jardin des Plantes almost each day, and the Jardin Alpin was my favorite part. A small paradise, especially in summer. I miss these places!
