Love Layne's beatboxing and singing-- please check out Layne playing violin while beatboxing in "Warriors"! Any of their stuff or Geoff Castellucci's solo work is so good and I look foward to more reactions from you. Voice Play does Disney so well, I think you would also enjoy their "Little Mermaid Medley". This one shows that they have a great sense of humor-- you would probably enjoy that too in "Road Trip".
I think it's fair to say that PTX, Home Free and VoicePlay's bass singer all have a similar range. Most agree that Geoff's smooth tone makes it sound richer and fuller. Geoff was wearing a matching shirt and pink shorts to match Ashley's. Layne (vocal percussion) did the arrangement. Eli (ellie) the tenor has sung with rock bands in the past and yet, helluva voice, master of riffs and runs.
I'd say Tim and Geoff have about the same range, though Geoff has a deeper chest range. Matt in PTX doesn't have as low a range or resonance as the other two do, and certainly Matt is not equal Avi Kaplan. JMO in listening to them all. Matt is very good and will likely get better. Of the 'Big 3 Basses', Avi has the smoothest, most refined voice with true operatic projection, but since leaving PTX is not as active. I love the haunting spirituality of many of his own songs, like Aberdeen and Change on the Rise. Geoff seems the most flexible. Tim does more growls and subs and a very fine upper range. All have fantastic ranges, and all have very mellow baritones when slightly above bass. Geoff is using fewer subs and vocal frys as he's worked on his chest voice to sing the lows.
@@bsmith5970 I confess I rarely listen to Home Free since finding VoicePlay, being somewhat obsessive. And I haven't really listened to PTX or since Avi left. I did love Avi's voice and have some of his recent work but he isn't concentrating on the bass aspect. I still feel that Geoff has a tonal quality that is exceptional, and I know that many feel the same, but it's difficult to quantify.
I love your reactions. I agree that I enjoyed their version better than the movie version. As to pausing, rewinding, or whatever you want to do as react, go for it, it is your reaction and you get to enjoy it or be amazed by it all you want.
I love how you pick up all the little details on your first viewing. It usually takes me numerous viewings to start hearing the subtleties of what's going on in the harmonies, or bass line, or beatboxing because I'm so focused on the melody line and the visuals at first.

Layne, the beatboxer can do this neat thing he calls "inhale singing." He actually sings words while breathing in. His last line in the song that sounds so cool is a combination of inhale and normal singing. (In, out, and in again.) It sounds awesome!
As a fan of Basso profundo voices Geoff's voice is velvet, it is like my own personal addiction. Geoff is the shape shifter villain. Cesar has a clear clean tenor Eli on the other hand has grit in his tenor from his time in a rock band. Layne, the beatboxer, may not sing often but when he does it is always awesome. Layne has a beautiful baritone... He is an amazing violinist as well.
You should react to some of Geoff Castellucci’s solo stuff! (the bass) His most recent one is Big Bad John, some others are Sixteen Tons, Far Over The Misty Mountains, The Headless Horseman, Shenandoah, and Blackbird. You won’t be disappointed with any of them
Besides Eli's "clean" tenor, he has the range to fill in the bass part when Geoff is singing solos (example: Moana medley). He is a remarkable talent, but then they ALL are. So are all of the members of the other groups you talked about. I don't try to say that one is better than the other - they are each totally amazing in their own right.

I definitely like this version better than the original. Don't get me wrong the original is great but this one has Layne doing his insane thing and Geoff hitting every note he can possibly reach as well as changing
