The original - written by musical theatre royalty Lin-Manuel Miranda - was already a complex, multilayered musical arrangement, so of course we’re super excited to watch VoicePlay’s own unique take on the song. This time, they also feature Ashley Diane, who we last saw with VoicePlay singing “If I Were A Rich Man/Girl”. Watch Geoff sing “SEVEN FOOT FRAME” with us and don’t forget to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE! So... How did they make the rat move like that? I might be overthinking it, but was it a string being pulled from behind Geoff, they filmed it then replayed it backwards? 🤪
It was a remote controlled animatronic rat. Layne was holding the remote 😂

When a group can go from the epic medieval of Dragonborn to this you know they're top tier. Add in the fact that they do almost every single thing in the production themselves and it's mind boggling. Dragonborn still gives me goosebumps. This one had me laughing until I cried. I knew you were going to do the same when Geoff came in mirroring Ashley's outfit. I'm a sucker for Geoff's low bass, but Cesar stole the show in this one I think. He's such a good addition to the group and adds so much character and depth. I LOVED hearing Layne singing! He really needs to do that more, especially since we know the rest can cover beatboxing like they did in Showman. I have seen a video of Eli singing with his rock band somewhere overseas and he's got really long hair. He's so hilarious. And Ashley. Just perfect for this one. I love Rachel, but this was definitely Ashley's role. Geoff is hinting on his solo channel there's one coming and I'm not being too patient about waiting for it.

Ashley also has a good sense of humor too, so she fits in well with Voiceplay, who are always injecting a bit of humor where they can.
In 'If I Were A Rich Man', at the end of her long riff, she just stands there and says "what?" while the others look at her with shocked faces.
Since Rachel is unavailable to be a 5th member due to her committments, Ashley would be my second choice, they really do need a female 5th instead of keeping it as an all male group though.

They took a high definition image of Casita and had it printed on a vinyl sign for the backdrop, rather than renting a theatrical backdrop as they often do.

Great reaction, guys! If you’re like me you’ll have to watch this many times to catch everything that’s going on musically and in the performance. For example, you did catch Layne’s side-eye when Geoff is singing in the blouse, but did you see what was happening to Cesar’s face? He decided to go with it. So funny. These guys just keep topping themselves. I’m almost afraid to see what’s next!
By the time you read this you will have seen the BTS & know that is a painted backdrop, the rat is remote controlled & Geoff is wearing pink shorts! This is such a brilliant version & so much fun what a contrast to Dragonborn Comes. I love the fact that VP can handle so many different genres with such ease. Always love the joy you two have in your reactions
Actually, the backdrop isn’t painted. There wasn’t enough time for that. A picture was put through a filter that made it look like a painting, then it was printed on vinyl. Layne explained during the live feed at the video shoot.

1. I asked this in a Patreon VP livechat and believe it or not it the Isabella costume change was Geoff's idea! And the Remy rat is a robot car-like thing and somehow it has enough traction to grab onto Geoff's coat, so no camera tricks there. Also, fun fact, Geoff's scream is taken right from that famous screaming goat meme XD

geoff’s G1 voice is mind blowing, i absolutely DIED when geoff shape shifted into isabella and did the second part of her verse, and Lin is SO SO SO very famous for the overlapping in his musicals. they overlap with previous verses in “In The Heights”, “Hamilton” AND “Encanto”. it’s always so cool-

Indeed Layne was great in the "rap type" part (I hope I'm referring to that part correctly). And yes, why give that part to Eli? (Indeed, his lighting arrangement is great !!!). Geoff super fun!!!, (and yes, sure Kathy has something to do with it). When I saw the movie in the cinema, this song was good, but VoicePlay made it fun!!! Ashley's voice reminded me exactly of Miravel's.

Yes, I saw it in Spanish, here in Mexico that genre of films only comes dubbed. The song is very well dubbed into Spanish. In fact, Mexico has a large dubbing industry, because we consume movies in English and Japanese. And also various anime series. Sorry if my reply was long.

I did after the mini of Luisa’s Surface Pressure. I often find myself watching movies after I see one of their videos. I also, in my ancient old age, find myself checking out a lot of bands that my son listens to just because of one of their videos.

actually it was Ashley who asked geoff to do that. the charismatic voice said she had some insider info that it was her who asked geoff to do that. i do believe her since hes has talked too both layne and geoff, so she definitely has contact with the group to get this sort of stuff.
yep from what i heard is Ashley had a couple different sizes of outfits because she didn't know which one would look the best on camera, so then wanted to have Goeff to wear an outfit during that part of the song.
Miranda didn't invent the voices signing against each other like that. That's an opera style which moved into musical theater. (Watch the reprise of "Tonight" in WESTSIDE STORY.).

Thanks, glad you appreciate the effort we put into our videos! We actually watched the early access version via VoicePlay’s Patreon, which was released a few days earlier… but since we were busy through the week we recorded our reaction only 3 hours before the public version dropped! 🤣

You had it spot on with Layne and Geoff's parts. Layne doing the rap in Moana probably gave it away though, as a beatboxer he already has a good sense of rythm to do rap.
Ashley was perfect for this song though, not only does she do the Latino accent well, she has a kind of Latino look to her.
