    People can hate Harry Potter as much as they like but they can't deny that it sparked a love of reading in our generation.

      It's not even that either. Its J.K Rowling, and her stupid tweet about homosexual stuff. I mean everybody was all up in arms about it. Personally it didnt reflect her works. I still played the Hogwarts games, I still read the books. People need to chill.

    • @TheGreatestPitt
      @TheGreatestPitt 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@triggerdudeit wasn't about homosexual stuff, it was about transgender people. They're not the same.
      It's a serious matter. Transgender people are at high risk of depression and suicide because of transphobia. JK Rowling is transphobic and is actively attempting to hurt this group of people. If she had her way, many people would die or be forced to live a life they're not happy with.
      Rowling actively spends some of her vast wealth to support political parties that have anti trans policies and agendas, which, like I said, would hurt thousands of people, potentially causing the death of many by a variety of reasons.
      So... It'd a big deal. It's not whatever. People really do suffer because of her and she's actively helping to make life for a whole group of people, horrible.
      I also love Harry Potter but I personally can't support it anymore when I know that the money goes to Rowling, who in turn uses it to further anti trans policies. It's horrible.
      I still have my books, but I do not wish to spend my money anymore on a franchise that is sadly, indirectly helping to further the suffering of people and creating intolerance and promoting hate.

    The rise of these glamour editions of books has given collections a nice new angle. I will stick with the traditionally published first editions or at least traditionally priced (like the new Elric books, or illustrated Witcher books) with an occasional splurge on one $$$ book. The book modification, slipcase, and that wardrobe are a fantastic expansion of the hobby as well.

    Just some simple math. If you dedicate 50€ per month to buy books (that's enough to buy between 2 and 4 newly printed books, or quite a lot more second hand books, as long as they're not rare), you can get a library with that value in 50 years.

  • @fjuran1

    Beautiful collection, and really appreciate what you have, however, I have been a book collector for over 30 years. I hate to break the bubble but special editions are not worth much with true collectors, and dealers. First edition, first printings are where most of the dollars grow, and signed versions even more so.
    I had a true first of Dune, worth about $9,000, there are no special editions of that book that would come close. Same holds true for the Whee of Time, any Asimov's, Brooks, Tolkien, etc, etc., etc.
    Now, not to down play the special editions, they are gorgeous, but they do not appreciate as the true first editions do. A hard cover first edition will only really increase if it the first hardcover issued for a book. that was done somewhat in the 1970's and 1980's.

    • @limedickandrew6016
      @limedickandrew6016 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends. I was lucky to get hold of the Folio Society limited edition of Mort by Terry Pratchett. Paid about £110 for it. That was in May 2016 - not quite seven years ago. Today, you will be lucky if you get hold of that particular book for less than £500.

    • @fjuran1
      @fjuran1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@limedickandrew6016 That may be true, but when you try to sell it, it becomes much tougher, and if you go to shows you can see this. Hyper-modern books very infrequently build in price early, as compared with Special Editions . Perhaps the Game of Thrones true first maybe $500, but that is a 23 year old book, while the special edition is close. It all comes down to print runs of the true first editions.
