I’m currently reading The Hobbit for the first time (and loving it). When the first book you pulled out was The Hobbit, my jaw dropped. Beautiful and impressive collection.
As a fellow bibliophile, this channel is quite possibly the best thing since the internet. Thanks for sharing! Such a wonderfully curated and diverse collection. Your taste and collection are well on their way to competing with the Stewart-Gardener art collection in Boston. Again thanks so much for sharing! I always joke TH-cam has become somewhat of a contemporary Library of Alexandria. Thanks for validating 😎
Cottageville, Outside of Charleston, SC. is our location. The Bible from 1611 was amazing to see, thank you. I was going to ask for an early addition of Shakespeare but you beat me to it, again thank yoiu.
Pretty sure my dad has first edition lord of the rings set and Silmarilion. When I was young I remember my dad and uncle discussing who would have the books in their library.
43:44 Now you got my attention. For me, the Holy Grail would be a first edition copy of Cook's voyages, with the folio volume. Also I want one of Vancouver, and a first edition Anson, and all the rest of them. Krusenstern, Langsdorff, all the South Seas explorers from the 17th and 18th centuries.
Some people have way too much money they don't even know what to do with it while others have none. Several million.."Let's do that." Sounds like he's one of those.
I literally would have asked to see a copy of the hobbit so you had me right out the gate. Perhaps some of the saga's like Beowulf since you have so much bible stuff i have to imagine you have an old af copy of that as well!
I wonder if the store's collection includes Pippy Longstocking. I once met quite by happenchance the author of Pippy Longstocking. I was familiar with the book because of a school teacher who read the book to the class over a period of a few weeks.
Aren’t those books frail they’re first editions I have a couple first editions and I always feel uneasy to open them because I don’t want to accidentally tear a page
Hi from Australia. What a beautiful library. I am putting together a library and I have some questions... Is this library climate controlled? Also, I noticed many of the books seem to have their own protective box. Is that something you recommend? I have some valuable books and it worries me having them out on the shelf, but on the same token, I have been told that books need air around them circulating to prevent binding failure, mould and foxing etc. Would love to know your thoughts, or maybe you could do a video on how to protect valuable books in a library such as this. Cheers
Curious if you have any book with jewel binding? Or a very nice binding of the count of monte cristo? Or for that matter any very beautiful binded books?
How did these rare books come into One's possession? it seems as though they would be normally in museum book vault environmental protective. Seems really disconcerting this is what become of valuing reality
35:45 I recognize that mug in the background. Is that the Holy Grail from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade? Edit: yes, it is. Dude has the literal Holy Grail on the shelf, as far as I'm concerned.
This is cool, but I don’t really understand how this was created? Did the owner give you $4m and said pick all my books for me? That’s cool but also kind of sad in a way.
Sure not using gloves is the correct way to open pages, but might I suggest a cushioned podium in this private library to protect the heavy handed handling of these precious books 😱
Bronx: Quran syriac Aramaic dialect beshem aloho Eucharist prayer the writing preservation of both monotheistic v polytheistic do you Barry white book or Ron mcvan temple of Wotan!
While you are holding up all these books to the camera, which are 1st editions and you can hardly breathe with pride, many people have actually read these books But that seems to be something American. You can hold hundreds of 1st editions in front of the camera,If they do not understand the value of the content, None of these books have any value
I feel like that room of the old books smells amazing! One of the best smells in the world is books
Aye. And fragrance of women too. Especially, like, after they have got some soap over them .
It’s a distinct aroma
I would argue the egg and bacon sandwich I just cooked smelt pretty good 😂😂

Pretty sure my dad has first edition lord of the rings set and Silmarilion. When I was young I remember my dad and uncle discussing who would have the books in their library.

How do you protect the books from vermin
Multi million dollar library, I'm sure it has humidity controls, and seals on the door
Great curation. What recommendations do you have for sturdy bookshelves?

New or old the story is the main thing. If you can’t afford the rare, get the secondhand one

Do you not worry about the sun fading from those large windows?
Nice books. But I think a collection should have a focus, should be more individual. This just seems like a rich person's shopping list.
It's good to be king
😅
Hello Reid! Watching from Arizona. I’d love to see what Ben Hur books you have!
The Good Soldier Sweik from Czech by Hasek?
Great video!! Hearing the camera person in the background is a bit maddening!!!
I’m really interested in book collecting, but not sure where to start. It seems like all of the second hand books I see are second hand.
marvelous
Would’ve really enjoyed seeing some Charles Dickens and my favorite, Mark Twain.
That super old Vulgate bible you have is so impressive. I would love to hold it.
Love this content, but why is the cameraman interrupting with commentary while you are speaking?
Enjoying this content. It's the Christmas season, Charles Dickens or C.S. Lewis (?)

It seems unsporting to simply buy up a huge, precious collection like this, without the doing hard yards assembling your own.
12 years before Columbus, not 2 years..
How much is the Latin Bible worth? ❤
Shakespeare alone...

Are there any Russian classics?
Really wanted to watch this, but filming in portrait on a iPhone makes it look like I'm viewing this through a keyhole on my TV. Shame.
Won't the books get bleached by all the sunlight?
Curious if you have any book with jewel binding? Or a very nice binding of the count of monte cristo? Or for that matter any very beautiful binded books?
