    It took me a LONG while to realize “Shelby Logan’s Run” is just a reference to “Logan’s Run”, a film where the main premises is that if you get too old they basically kill you. Shelby Logan also had this problem, I don’t know how this reference didn’t click sooner.

      @@LordMephilispeople make bad judgments sometimes, and as the organisers you should always go out of your way to account for those bad judgments, especially when your event causes the participants to feel fatigued(impaired judgment) and have adrenalin rushes (increase in risky behavior). now of course the guy's own action played a big role in his own demise, but unless you are like the person above you who believes that it doesn't matter that people who make bad judgments get hurt, then as the organisers you should always prioritise safety, or else more people are just gonna get hurt. place your event at a fucking mine, people are gonna get hurt, simple as that

    • @neonsashimidream1075
      @neonsashimidream1075 4 ปีที่แล้ว +100

      Yeah this was insanely stupid. "NO!NO!NO!" is not a clear warning inside the context of a game where they are making things seem real and actually hazardous as part of the thrill. Something as dangerous as an abandoned mine shaft would need to have 4th wall breaking, clearly visible, warning sign on it for this to be remotely sane. Trying to maintain the illusion of reality in the game by simply painting a different number on the mine and putting the words "no" and hoping the players will understand, is beyond negligent. It's completely insane. If you don't want to break the 4th wall, don't have ANY part of the game take place near something as dangerous as an abandoned mine shaft. Those are the options.

      The clue said "1306 is very clearly marked. Enter ONLY 1306, do NOT enter others." It's hard to make decisions on no sleep for 30 hours, and the game masters knew that they were sending people into incredibly dangerous places, so both parties are at fault here, I think. The Game Masters should have heeded the advice of the mine inspectors, and Mr. Lord should probably have known his limits a little better.

    I feel the need to mention that once you reach about 16-17 hours without sleep, your brain begins to misfire the same way it does when you're drunk. Not sure what 30 hours is the equivalent to, but it's important to keep in mind that the victim was NOT firing on all cylinders. It was irresponsible of the Game Masters to have such a dangerous location be part of the game, especially when A. They knew people would be playing while sleep deprived, and B. They were warned that incorporating a mine was a very bad decision.

    • @chiblast100x
      @chiblast100x 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      It's hard to quantify what 30 hours without sleep will do, even as a generality. With someone who suffers from chronic insomnia or similar issues even the onset of the misfires is significantly decreased (by around half the 16 to 17 suggested above is what I've seen cited) for example. The longer term psychological side effects of acute sleep deprivation run through things like dissociation, hallucinations, and dementia-like symptoms (typically cited onset of which are in the 50 to 80 hours without sleep range) and noticeable physical ones include passing out (on the milder end) and coma or death (on the more extreme end).

    To me, this stresses the importance of some code word or what have you to let the players know whether or not something is a part of the game. Especially for games like these based in reality. Like, if they spray painted the code word ‘pumpernickel’ on the mine, then that man would’ve known not to go there even in his sleep deprived state.

    • @HadBabits
      @HadBabits 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Lol, that’s great! Whenever someone asks me to come up with a secret code word or whatever pumpernickel comes to mind just for how distinct it is. Like, unless you’re talking about bread and/or sandwiches there’s no easy way to accidentally mistake or misuse that word (like how ‘no’ was misunderstood in the game.)

      In the British Army, the code is "No duff". So if you are on exercise and you are constantly being presented with all sorts of challenging and unexpected scenarios to test you ("The CO has just been shot: you are now acting CO.") if the shit hits the fan for real, the announcement is prefixed with No Duff. Duff was old slang for pudding, so the only context you'd hear that phrase now would be in a genuine emergency.

      @@thenew4559 They used a word that they used as a clue in a previous puzzle to attempt to warn players who hadn't slept in almost thirty hours. Bring in the fact that some ARGs like to blatantly misdirect players and you can't blame the guy for thinking he was going the right way. If they blatantly stated, "This is not part of the game, do not enter this mine." it would be more understandable.

    i think its both parties fault. As a game master, you are in charge of creating a game that, above everything, is safe. sending sleep deprived people to dangerous locations one after the other was irresponsible even if they told the players where not to enter. but at the same time, as a player, you are also responsible for knowing your limits and take precaution.
