I'm digging this channel. Unique content. Lots of stories I didn't previously know about. It's refreshing when so many channels analyse the same media over and over.
If it was clear that the mine/cave he entered was NOT the correct one but he STILL entered-idk, just seems to me like it was more his fault for not using common sense. Especially if it was as clear as the game controllers even spray painting “NO NO NO” around the area was incorrect to enter lol. What other evidence did he need to not go that way?
In previous segments of the game, you were supposed to do things you were expressly told not to do. If that were not the case then sure that argument would hold water, but given the circumstances it's absurd.
@@Electric0eye what part of the game explicitly told people to do stuff they weren't supposed to do. The instructions were very clear. It wasn't even the right number.

The hard work, scripting, and topics that you find that are not done before genuinely makes your channel all the more appealing ! Keep up the amazing work AG : )
I actually like that you cover more obscure topics that's barely been touched on. It's pretty refreshing seeing all these topics despite being fairly old, they're less talked about within these types of channels. Good job, AG.
I feel the need to mention that once you reach about 16-17 hours without sleep, your brain begins to misfire the same way it does when you're drunk. Not sure what 30 hours is the equivalent to, but it's important to keep in mind that the victim was NOT firing on all cylinders. It was irresponsible of the Game Masters to have such a dangerous location be part of the game, especially when A. They knew people would be playing while sleep deprived, and B. They were warned that incorporating a mine was a very bad decision.
It's hard to quantify what 30 hours without sleep will do, even as a generality. With someone who suffers from chronic insomnia or similar issues even the onset of the misfires is significantly decreased (by around half the 16 to 17 suggested above is what I've seen cited) for example. The longer term psychological side effects of acute sleep deprivation run through things like dissociation, hallucinations, and dementia-like symptoms (typically cited onset of which are in the 50 to 80 hours without sleep range) and noticeable physical ones include passing out (on the milder end) and coma or death (on the more extreme end).
EllyTheKnight Yeah I feel like they should have blocked that mine up or should have been even more obvious by saying “this is not part of the game, go away”
giannigiovful Part of the blame could be put on the guys like the inspectors in charge of keeping these places safe. Why didn’t the organization in charge of closing these places up not seal it at all?

Great vid! Surprised this had nothing to do with "You Just Lost the Game." Also, congrats on your shout-out in Super Eyepatch Wolf's vid (My Favorite Things Summer 2019 )
To me, this stresses the importance of some code word or what have you to let the players know whether or not something is a part of the game. Especially for games like these based in reality. Like, if they spray painted the code word ‘pumpernickel’ on the mine, then that man would’ve known not to go there even in his sleep deprived state.
Pfft, this caught my attention because pumpernickel is our actual safe word XD Not for anything naughty, mind, just to let me know when I'm /seriously/ getting on her nerves :B
Lol, that’s great! Whenever someone asks me to come up with a secret code word or whatever pumpernickel comes to mind just for how distinct it is. Like, unless you’re talking about bread and/or sandwiches there’s no easy way to accidentally mistake or misuse that word (like how ‘no’ was misunderstood in the game.)
In the British Army, the code is "No duff". So if you are on exercise and you are constantly being presented with all sorts of challenging and unexpected scenarios to test you ("The CO has just been shot: you are now acting CO.") if the shit hits the fan for real, the announcement is prefixed with No Duff. Duff was old slang for pudding, so the only context you'd hear that phrase now would be in a genuine emergency.

I'd say the growth isn't surprising, the videos are of quite great quality plus the alogrithm seems to at least for me have been kind enough to recommend this channel when I was in a binge of this kind of content a few months back
It's really tragic that irreparable damage was done by this incident. ...to The Game itself. Not to the guy who signed a liability waiver, refused to follow instructions, refused to acknowledge warnings about a hazard, and ended up paralyzing himself. Edit: Also your channel rules and I love it
congrats on 50k! you’re one of my favorite “alternative content” channels and I love that you post about topics that other horror channels don’t! you totally deserve all the love 🖤
yet another excellent video! your channel is going to get huge, i know it. this level of quality can't go unnoticed. i think the game organizers should have done a better job marking off unrelated mines and dangerous areas. being blunt and breaking immersion is worth it. also, i lost the game.
Yeah, what's even the point pretending it's not a damn game. How on Earth are you gonna keep it believable when you're feeding contestants cheesy videos and ask them to dress on drag and take codes from inside a rat.
They spray painted the "No, No, No" on the cave entrance and also expressly told people to only enter the cave marked with the 1306, and not any others. They did in fact warn people against entering unrelated mines, particularly the one that the guy fell into.
@@thenew4559 They used a word that they used as a clue in a previous puzzle to attempt to warn players who hadn't slept in almost thirty hours. Bring in the fact that some ARGs like to blatantly misdirect players and you can't blame the guy for thinking he was going the right way. If they blatantly stated, "This is not part of the game, do not enter this mine." it would be more understandable.
@@thenew4559 Evidently it wasn't enough. I'm not saying the dude was completely blameless, but they should have done a better job of obstructing the entrances to the mines. Not simply spray painting things or expecting a bunch of heavily exhausted, sleep deprived players to remember and follow these rules and warnings. Really, they shouldn't have had the game there at all considering how heavily the consultant warned them.
This is so awesome. I have mad respect for the guy to having both the mind and the guts to not only think up these games, but create them too. Inspiring.
I just learned of your videos today. Thank you for your content. I found the videos I watched insightful, intriguing, and fascinating. Very few are able to keep my attention for very long. Yours, I wasn’t able to stop. I look forward to even more of your content in the future. Keep up the good work.
I just wanted to say , your videos are awesome from the structure of the video to the subject and how you manage to keep it compiling through out , its amazing 👍🏻
This came out just as I was leaving on vacation so I wasn't able to watch it until now. Always love your videos! This one was no exception. Gosh, hearing about the dude falling and breaking his neck--gives me the shivers. I'm not 100% sure how to feel about the whole thing--I mean, obviously I feel terrible for the poor guy, and the gamemaster's idea to use open mines in the game really was stupid, especially since he was outright told it was a bad idea. But he's moved on since then, and I guess I'm glad he's entertaining people in a more safe way? I dunno. Still, a fascinating watch either way. Awesome work!
i think its both parties fault. As a game master, you are in charge of creating a game that, above everything, is safe. sending sleep deprived people to dangerous locations one after the other was irresponsible even if they told the players where not to enter. but at the same time, as a player, you are also responsible for knowing your limits and take precaution.
@@ca-ke9493 lucky or unlucky. Personally I couldn't imagine anything worse than being fine one day and paralysed the next. But I'm sure his family are glad he is alive and I hope he's adapting well. And I kind of agree, but the signs saying no no no could have easily been changed to be an actual warning sign like "sudden drop, do not enter"
So I guess if a game says to go bungee jumping and someone decides to simply jump off a cliff instead, it's also both parties fault, right? People are responsible for their own actions. If they decide to do something dumb, it's their fault if said dumb thing results in something bad happening to them. No one forced him to do what he did. He made a poor choice and suffered the consequences.
@@sozeytozey It is true that he made the mistake of doing this, but it would have NEVER HAPPENED if they hadn't of used mine shafts in the first place.

It would be spectacular to do something like this for mental health, that teaches coping skills etc, but from a gamified perspective. I think I'll work on that.
That's a fascinating idea. Now, I think it's a given that you'd have to play with less extreme circumstances, especially if participants had high anxiety or other similar stress disorders, but this could be challenging, fun and educational without the prospect of sudden-drop injuries.

I just wanna say you did a great job on this story. I had recently listened to another youtuber who also told the story about the game puzzle hunt, but his video wasn't nearly as in depth as yours. He mainly focused on telling the tragic story of the player who ended up falling down the mine shaft. Even so you explain it better by telling exactly how he ended up falling down there and how he deviated from the path.
I'm glad TH-cam's algorithm made me discover this channel. I have a strong feeling this channel is going to blow up into hundred of thousands if not millions really soon Awesome content!
To be fair, he has a solid point. In a safe, controlled environment it's totally understandable, admirable even to want to push people to break past physical and mental limits. That's what extreme sports are for. The thing is, you gotta have some level of reasonable safety boundaries. Danger can go from fun to harrowing fast.

I don't know how they got 10 millions, he was told to go somewhere and he went elsewhere, I don't see GM sharing half the blame here. a quarter or lower maybe
I swear there are like 5 treasure/scanvenger hunting games called The Game.
Loved it as always, Atrocity. You only get better and better.
Thank you, Jose! :)
I'm digging this channel. Unique content. Lots of stories I didn't previously know about. It's refreshing when so many channels analyse the same media over and over.
Every location I’m like “I’ve been there!!!... in Fallout: New Vegas”
Your casual mentioning in an unbiased way of facts that seem like they required a LOT of research is awesome!
I agree and maybe the entrance shoudn't have been wide open, I would add.
@@suyanatsuri3982 I agree that instructions were clear, but again, sending participants to mines was a pretty dangerous idea - the one that requires more safety precautions than just spray-painting "no" across the things.
@@JennyTheNerdBat That would be on the mine safety board/company side of things. Bar or gate the entrances. Or backfill them/intentionally cave them in.
This might sound weird but your intro was really well written. Like it gave away just enough information to keep me really hooked. Love your vids!!
This channel is incredible. Thank you for all these interesting yet unsettling stories
That was ABSOLUTELY engrossing! I watched 2 minutes just to see what it was about and was HOOKED, then by the end I was blown away!
Fantastic reading, an incredibly amount of detail, good pacing, fantastic in every way, many thanks! :D
(Also nice to see you getting lots more subs! I was sent over this way by Super Eyepatch Wolf and got a lot to catch up on, great videos!)
These videos are like a mix between reignbot, internet historian, down the rabbit hole, night mind, and scare theatre.
And I love it.
Only 10 minutes in but as always i find myself really enjoying everything you've done. It's always amazing seeing my favorite content creators get the recognition they deserve, and needless to say this is a severe understatement at best, you deserve a lot more subs like i've said many times before.
The hard work, scripting, and topics that you find that are not done before genuinely makes your channel all the more appealing ! Keep up the amazing work AG : )
Thank you so much, Mike!
EllyTheKnight
Yeah I feel like they should have blocked that mine up or should have been even more obvious by saying “this is not part of the game, go away”
@@giannigiovfulAgreed. Especially since 'No' had been part of an earlier solution.
giannigiovful Part of the blame could be put on the guys like the inspectors in charge of keeping these places safe. Why didn’t the organization in charge of closing these places up not seal it at all?
Umm, I go 17 hours without sleep everyday. Don't most people?
You are my new favourite channel!! I have been bingewatching your videos and am already looking forward to see what things you will make in the future. I love your essay-style, the topics you choose, your calm voice and the obviously well done research and effort you have put into every video. Super interesting and enganging and I will recommend it to my friends!
you read all the comments!?!? WELL. PREPARE YOURSELF. BECAUSE. i love you~~
:)
:(
i love u too
What I love about your channel is that it goes beyond entertaining; everytime I watch one of your videos I learn something new and horrific.
I can't believe I hadn't heard of this before. I honestly saw "The Game" and thought of that ridiculous meme from the 00's--which I guess means we all just lost The Game.
Great stuff as usual. I am continually impressed with the vids on this channel. Each one seems super well researched and thorough. Congrats on the milestone, you deserve it.
Fantastic as always! I especially love the editing and the inclusion of all the sources in the description.
Super eyepatch wolf sent me here I'm not dissapointed I've literally watched everyone of your videos this is a great channel subscribed
One of these days, AG, you're going to do a video on some thing that may be a little obscure, but which I've already heard of and know a bunch about already. But that day is not today. Thanks for introducing me to yet another weird tale from the periphery. :-D
Thank you, Golfhaus! :)
So great to see another lady narrator in this genre of TH-cam. Ty so much!
I'm glad you're reaching milestones and gaining more attention, I really love your content, it's always a generous sized and always something I've usually never heard about!!
I'm glad you're here and make such good content to share I hope things only continue to get better for you!!
Thank you :)
Great vid! Surprised this had nothing to do with "You Just Lost the Game." Also, congrats on your shout-out in Super Eyepatch Wolf's vid (My Favorite Things Summer 2019
)
Thank you :)
That is a very good solution for such games
In the British Army, the code is "No duff". So if you are on exercise and you are constantly being presented with all sorts of challenging and unexpected scenarios to test you ("The CO has just been shot: you are now acting CO.") if the shit hits the fan for real, the announcement is prefixed with No Duff. Duff was old slang for pudding, so the only context you'd hear that phrase now would be in a genuine emergency.
shelby logan's run is definitely the most fascinating and intriguing ARG i'd ever heard of. had it been done under safer, more controlled conditions, as well as potentially involving law enforcement, medical services, etc., it could've been great.
i'm a huge fan of your channel, btw. i appreciate that a lot of what you cover isn't particularly "horror" as much as it is highly unusual and varying degrees of dangerous. it's very refreshing, and i'm so happy for your milestone
but thats why the game was fun because there was risk and you were skating whats legal and not
Let me just say that I love, LOVE your content! These videos are exactly the kind of thing I enjoy: the weird, niche, and sometimes disturbing parts of real life, presented in an informative, engaging, and entertaining format. And people wonder why I don't watch tv, with great channels like this one on TH-cam! I wish you all of the luck and success going forward, and I'll be waiting with enthusiasm for the next video!
congrats on the 50K, you deserve each and every one of those, great content, TY!
I just found out about your TH-cam channel from another TH-camr named Super Eyepatch Wolf. I've spent the last 2 days catching up on all your videos. After watching the couple of videos available on your channel as of now, I must say that they are fantastic and I look forward to seeing what you put out in the future. Keep up the great work!!
This has quickly become my favorite channel.
this channel is soooo underrated, you deserve way more that what you have!
I don't remember Fallout New Vegas being this intense.
Edit: Also your channel rules and I love it
wow you definetly deserve more fame and subs. The work and research you do is amasing! Keep up the good work!!
love your work, have seen nothing but improvement throughout your videos, continue the great work
That's really nice to hear, thank you!
congrats on 50k! you’re one of my favorite “alternative content” channels and I love that you post about topics that other horror channels don’t! you totally deserve all the love 🖤
yet another excellent video! your channel is going to get huge, i know it. this level of quality can't go unnoticed.
i think the game organizers should have done a better job marking off unrelated mines and dangerous areas. being blunt and breaking immersion is worth it.
also, i lost the game.
That wouldn't work either, the game had already lied to players at the start, by saying that hotline wasn't part of the game.
Heck yes, Atrocity! Keep up the great work, you've got a great streak of zero bad videos, I really love your stuff and vibes.
Thank you :)
I like how even though she’s celebrating a milestone she still sounds sad.
I just wanted to say , your videos are awesome from the structure of the video to the subject and how you manage to keep it compiling through out , its amazing 👍🏻
Bro... your quality is no less than a regular Discovery channel shows.
Always exited to see you in subscription box
I found your channel through today’s collab and have been binging ever since. This is my new favorite channel.
Thank you for keeping me company during a slow workday.
i think its both parties fault. As a game master, you are in charge of creating a game that, above everything, is safe. sending sleep deprived people to dangerous locations one after the other was irresponsible even if they told the players where not to enter. but at the same time, as a player, you are also responsible for knowing your limits and take precaution.
totally this. can you imagine if Junko had ever made someone wander around caves, sleep deprived? *shudder*
They are lucky that the guy didn't die as a result.
I'm another who got to your channel through Super Eyepatch Wolf. You have a great way of presenting your subjects, and I appreciate that the channel's focused on real events, rather than creepypastas. Since I just binged through almost all of your videos (so far) I'm definitely going to check out your Patreon. Keep up the great work!
I binged watched all of your videos after your channel was recommended by Super Eyepatch Wolf :D
Omg I just found this channel, and I was bench watching it and now you update! Thank youuuu! I was just running out of your old videos to watch xD
Hell yes! Atrocity Guide uploaded!
I'm so excited each time I see you upload!
It would be spectacular to do something like this for mental health, that teaches coping skills etc, but from a gamified perspective. I think I'll work on that.
The Fox Den if your serious, I’d love to help
Love that, good luck!!
mental health? thats such a trendy topic.
That's a fascinating idea. Now, I think it's a given that you'd have to play with less extreme circumstances, especially if participants had high anxiety or other similar stress disorders, but this could be challenging, fun and educational without the prospect of sudden-drop injuries.
@@EmillyOrr Oh it would be much less extreme. The goal would be to gamify coping skills (not calling them that, obviously).
This is absolutely one of the best channels I've discovered this year. I love the soothing but also slightly unsettling atmosphere created by the music and editing, and the subject matter is really fascinating. So glad I found this channel.
also, glad to see i'm not the only one who got super concerned about the rats, haha.

I somehow found your channel early on and so happy I did. I really look forward to the long format and listen with my phone screen off at work. It really helps pass the day.
Real talk. I just found out about your channel and i really like it, you deserve more subs.
I'm really happy this channel is finding success, when I subbed there were only a few hundred followers and I was very surprised given the quality of the content. I'm tempted to say that I wish videos came out more frequently, but I rather they keep coming out at this level of quality.
"NO! NO! NO! NO!"
player: "this sign can't stop me because I can't read"
You got a nice thing going, congrats with the 50k! Also, your cool voice makes the content ten times better :D
Did they really think a code was fed to the rat and would poop out?! Lol. I’m positive everyone knows the size and type of poop that comes out of small rodents...little bb sized pellets. How in god’s name was some piece of paper or other type of code containing item going to come out in a fashion that made it readable or useable?!
Lol...poor rat, had no clue that morning when he woke up was going to be given a colonic that afternoon.
It could have been a color code. Like make it poop a specific shade of orange that needs to be translated to RGB values or something.
Pretty sure it was an RFID chip or something.
I did not know that.
What a great video(s). These must take so long to make with production better than a tv show, love it! Been your new biggest fan keep it up.
Am I the only one that thought they where going to make them cut the mouse open?
I really like the work put into these videos. The quality of the presentation, writing and research are excelent. I'm really glad I found this channel by chance a few months ago, and hope you keep up and enjoy producing such great content.
Thank you so much, Gerard :)
The fact that this guy called 9/11 two years before by putting a bomb in a World Trade Center tower... that’s chilling
Wasn't it after the first Trade Center bombing? That's probably why he chose it.
Super Eyepatch Wolf just revealed to me one of the best and most haunting channels on TH-cam.
Keep up the good work
I was having a horrible day and was super depressed when I opened TH-cam and saw that you had uploaded. I immediately felt better. Thank you
The only atrocity I can imagine is not knowing this channel. The research is profound and it’s always something I haven’t heard of, which incredibly exciting. Also congrats on 50K!
“This is not a game.”
It was, in fact, a game. People still took it seriously though.
Exactly. Do these people forget that, at the end of the day, it is a game?
In fact you could say that it wasn't A game it was THE Game.
this channel deserves an eff ton more subs, easily. i definitely see that happening soon!
thank you for always finding such obscure & unique treasures, learning/researching about them, & then meticulously creating yr own excellent narrative.
yr content is of the highest caliber. & i find yr voice to be incredibly enjoyable/soothing to listen to, especially in a youtube world that often seems full of squawking, screeching, & just plain yelling absolute trash in order to hit a 10 minute mark.
i'm glad i somehow got here when i did! :)
Thank you, Emeli! :)
I just wanna say you did a great job on this story. I had recently listened to another youtuber who also told the story about the game puzzle hunt, but his video wasn't nearly as in depth as yours. He mainly focused on telling the tragic story of the player who ended up falling down the mine shaft. Even so you explain it better by telling exactly how he ended up falling down there and how he deviated from the path.
dude I love your channel so much!!! omg i love the stories and the interesting topics you cover!! plus ur voice is like very soothing
Love this channel, keep up the good work
I'm glad TH-cam's algorithm made me discover this channel.
I have a strong feeling this channel is going to blow up into hundred of thousands if not millions really soon
Awesome content!
There’s just no way things won’t go South when the mastermind behind plans says stuff like “I find it fascinating to put people in a state of duress”.
Explains him being VP at Microsoft
Very true but he clearly didn't want to cause long term or physical harm and he clearly tired to stop people from jumping into the mine
Your content is always unique and well done. Love getting the Atrocity Guide notifications!
I can't complain about bloodborne being hard ever again
Lol
Fuck ran out of blood vials time too farm
im here and ready to be amazed once again
yup, great work as always
The game sounds pretty cool and well put together but hooo boy I do not agree with including live animals, especially such sweet delicate ones as rats, the laxatives could have hurt him.
And mineshafts. As a desert rat yeah people fall and die in those all the time. A kid in my high school died dirt biking into one
I just spent the day watching everyone of your videos. Amazing keep up the good work!
