  • In these early layers I like to add a lot of saturated colour. Most of it will be covered by future layers, but it adds depth to the final painting.

    You are exactly who i needed to find. I just watched your 8 techniques and thats what i needed to up my paintings. Ive been at abstracts now for about 8 months or so. Theres just something missing. I think i finally get it. Thank you.

      I'm so glad you found me! I find composition and value contrast makes the biggest difference if you can't quite get a painting to work.

    Thanks for the great tip on using Ivar supports for hanging your canvases on the wall 🙏

      You’re welcome! It works great, but if the canvases are much wider they fall off if I put pressure to the outside of the fixing points.

    Definitely I'm a bright colours artist, although mixed with a modicum of more subdued tones.

      Fantastic! I bet the bright colours pop even more next to your subdued tones.

    I love your move to brighter colors because you do not over do it. It's a soothing combination. Looking forward to seeing what you do next!

      Thank you! There is probably going to be a lot less bright colour in the next few layers. We shall see!

    Hey Jeannine, this was colorful 🎉😃 yeee, brightens up March's gloomy and rainy days! To answer your question, I used to be a very muted/earthy tones user, but I switched to very bright colors not so long ago and I SO love it!! It is amazing how colors have an effect on mood and emotions. And the latest Orla Stevens's video really instilled that ah-ah moment of "the art you love to look at or feel inspired by can be different than the art you love making, these are two separate things". I do love calm and very wabi-sabi art, minimalist....but it seems that this is not what comes out of me when I let my creativity run really FREELY!! 😂 Anyway, loved this part of your process and as usual, looking forward to the next stage!

      @jclosestudio  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This March definitely needs brightening up! Where is that spring I heard about?
      Think I'm joining you in switching slowly from more subdued to brighter colours. I love Orla's videos! Maybe her colour has also influenced me 😃
      Let's see how these develop

    Hi Jeannine, loving how these paintings are progressing, and nice to see some brighter colours. The muted colours are lovely but nice to add some brights for a change. Thank you...Alioban ❤

    Same question 😂 I see vertical strips on the wall which appear very convenient. I don’t have a permanent workspace but with your solution I could store paintings to dry elsewhere after painting, and have the kitchen wall back! ❤

    • @jclosestudio
      @jclosestudio  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The good old kitchen studio 😄
      For my painting wall I’ve screwed IKEA Ivar corner posts into the wall. I’ve painted the posts white to make them blend into the wall better. Into the holes I add metal bolts from the hardware store. I can move the bolts around, which means I can hang my paintings an any height and move them around easily.

    Hi Jeannine. Love you energy. You made beautiful choices of colors. I’m a very colorful person but you made me love muted colors in your previous series and I love what you have done in those paintings so far. So excited to see how they will end. Nice weekend

    Really enjoy watching each stage and your process Jeannine. I’ll be interested to see how the pieces turn out at the next stage.
    I love muted and certain colours in particular when they are blended and a limited colour pallet. I’m so new to abstract and am finding when I use a bright colour, I’m wanting to push it back and apply a thin layer of white gesso to create texture and layers. The results have been pleasantly surprising especially when I don’t really know what I’m doing 😝. Your videos are wonderful and ever so helpful. Thank you for sharing your calm and fun approach to your beautiful art practice 🙏🏻 😊🙏🏻

      When I fist started painting again I was terrified of bright colours, but now love starting with bright colours and then layering over them with muted tones. White gesso is a great way of doing that!

    I tend to go for the same colors, although i ran out and bought just about every color. So i am a bright color person, but i think i need to mute them down. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge.

    What colors did you use on the previous layers?

    • @jclosestudio
      @jclosestudio  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Emily! I mostly used some leftover paint from a previous series, that I had mixed from ultramarine, magenta, yellow ochre, raw sienna and white. I have a video where I mix those colours: th-cam.com/video/kRiCdkcUamE/w-d-xo.html
      The orange I mixed afterwards, but it's also a mix of ultramarine, magenta, yellow ochre, raw sienna (mainly magenta and yellow ochre.

      @jclosestudio  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      oh, and they are all Daler Rowney System3, apart from the yellow ochre, which is Golden.
