I want to acknowledge and state that I'm well aware there is much more nuance to the topic of VR gaming's condition at the moment, but the video is long enough as is, and is primarily a list showcase video, so, the detail and nuance can be saved for another time.
Steam's spring sale is currently on till...March 21st? or around there,. Many of the titles featured here are discounted, so if any grabbed your interest, now is a good time to try. Hope you enjoyed the video.

Never heard of you before, until this was suggested to me. But fittingly, this indie-channel just delivered one of the highest quality "top VR games" videos I have seen. :-) Definitely looking forward to what is to come. I'm not saying you are right and everybody else is wrong, but I am saying that we seem to have a very similar taste in VR games, and that you set up arguments very eloquently. Which more than earned a subscription.

Since you already mention HL2VR I feel like you need to make another video talking about high quality VR mods. Deep Rock, Portal 2, Outer Wilds, Subnautica, RE and many others all look and feel like games made for VR (better in most cases). I recently played through Pacific Drive and that game is just perfect for VR. What keeps the PCVR community going are the mods and its heroes.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, VR games needs more emphasis on "VR" aspect of things and not just making a game, then porting it to VR. Some games need more in depth aspects that makes more sense and a REAL reason to buy a VR headset to play a game.
Games also are becoming a lazy deal with VR because the market is so desaturated with original ideas and super saturated with games that are basically "Copycats" of games already released.
Ghost of Tabor = Escape from Tarkov
    Contractors = Call of Duty
Half-Life: Alyx = Half-Life 2 (Or the mod itself, which ever you prefer)
Resident Evil 8 VR = THE SAME GAME!
    Arizona Sunshine 2 = DeadRising
    BoneLabs = Gmod
You get the picture. But games are becoming the same thing over, and over, and over again and it's getting annoying. I don't mind these ports or "inspired" games. However, there needs to be something that allows players to say "WOW! Maybe I should start getting into VR and buy a headset for this game" and I don't think many games nowadays shows that.
But it's hard to be original too and seeing some games take games and allow players to be more immersed in the games they enjoyed before. Though, I will say that it's going to be a rough year for VR again unless a Dev decides to step up and focus on a game that takes VR technology and involves it further into their game.
Maybe we can see a stealth game like Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid, Dishonored, etc. Not many VR games use body height as a cool tool for players to use in games like these and giving players the opportunity to stealth their way into a base and steal some item.
Or bring in a actual game that can give MMOs a run for their money. Maybe build an army and the apposing enemy has to defend with their base. But a spin on it would be you're able to control your army and direct them in different directions that is in the heat of the moment. (I got ideas for days for VR, just no skill in game development lmao)
Point is this, MAKE VR GAMES THAT PLAYERS WOULD BUY A VR HEADSET FOR JUST FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF PLAYING THAT GAME.
I'm here all week and thank you Mr VR Voice for bringing this up. Have a good day.

Edited to add: Since he didn't mention it in the video, Mr V has also done hour+ long dev chats with the developers of CyubeVR, Vertigo, and Compound which are all excellent to listen to and give a bit more insight to the thoughts behind these quality games, well worth checking out.
Phenomenal video as always - haven't finished it in it's entirety yet but I felt the need to comment and emphasize your rant and love towards the Moss series. Moss book 1 and 2 are sensational games that absolutely need to be viewed through the headset to truly appreciate. 10/10 experience, both games.
Also, I wasn't aware of Iron Wolfs existence, I may need to give that a try.
Glad to see this video finally come to fruition, it's lovely to see these games get highlighted.

Ha, I’m actually mostly right-handed but have always defaulted to aiming rifle weapons left-handed since I was as young as I could remember.

I like how critical you are about the industry. Some people find it to be "negativity" and they do not enjoy that type of review but I think all your points are valid and need to be said. You can't grow without acknowledging your faults. This is especially true when criticizing some larger devs (Ghost of Tabor is a great example you showed with weapon collision. I still give them credit as a small dev team though as they are learning).
In the end, there is not a lot of money to be made so small studios and passionate devs will have to be the ones to step up and make great games. Even then, devs like Vertigo games make good looking games but they lack in VR experiences.

I've been looking forward to this video since I caught some of your Moss livestream. Watching you discover the charms of that game was a joy. It was the first game I played in VR, so it'll always have a special place in my heart.
In some ways it's a shame you never experienced PSVR 1. While the tracking system and repurposed-wiimote-competitor controllers lead to a fair amount of limitations and jank that would make it hard to revisit today, it still had a surprising number of high-quality titles, many of which were exclusive. Some of my favourites include Here They Lie, Statik, Wipeout Omega Collection, Astrobot Rescue Mission, Farpoint, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, and Blood & Truth. Even Playstation VR Worlds, a collection of short demos and experiences, showcased a profound level of quality beyond many modern releases.
One last point, I deeply agree with your sentiments at the end of the video about the importance of collaboration. VR game development needs to become a more collaborative process if we're going to see the sorts of quality we want. There's too much reinventing the wheel happening in the VR space. Developers shouldn't have to redesign/develop basic fundamental interactions from scratch for new VR games. Hopefully Mighty Eyes' VRAF framework helps in this regard, and other VR developers start licensing out the tech they've developed so new games don't have to start from square one.

I would like to bring up some games myself
    1. Green Hell VR: an honorable mention, but can only count it as that because I only got to play a bit before getting some computer issues, but from what I’ve played it has a great amount of polish and has a lot of content due to being a port of a flat screen game, but is so polished due to being completely remade by a studio focused on VR from my understanding.
    2. Cosmodread:yes this is another roguelite, I have an addiction to that genre, fight me! The like some of the games on this list it doesn’t handle the motion controls in a particularly unique way, but it has anazing atmosphere, and the natural shaking from fear adds to the tension due to poor aim (although that may be my bad eyesight XD), and I do feel that the power cell system adds a little bit of strategic depth.
    3. Broken Edge: this is a multiplayer sword dheling game. While it arguably abstracts things a bit, I actually find it more realistic then any fully physics based sword combat game, because it encourages proper use of the weapon with the blade awakening mechanic. The community is also shockingly nice for a multiplayer game.
Amid Evil VR:this one is barely an honorable mention due to its polish, due to being a flat screen game that from my understanding someone literally pestered the devs into letting them port it in VR, but I feel this game shows an issue that can come from “boomer shooters” that I want to highlight that thankfully Compound avoids. A big issue with a lot of these kinds of games including this one is that they never “let their foot off the gas” and constantly have a bunch of shit flying everywhere. This just gets old quickly and makes the game lack depth. Even the original Doom 1 and 2 managed to do this despite their reputation.
    Hopefully I worded this well.

Unfortunately Amid Evil VR bricked its frame rates to be almost unplayably hitchy a month or two back after some update and have not acknowledged it or said they have any plans of fixing it. I bought the game after the bricking occurred so I've never been able to enjoy it because the frame rate seems to be locked very low, and very inconsistent frame times.

Great list. Agree with the rant. I think PSVR2 has a bit of quality over quantity. No mans sky, GT7, synapse and RE4 etc. But people slag it off. Personally I prefer having less games that are high caliber rather than the majority of un imaginative stuff thats out there. I was initially disappointed with my quest 3, just a small increase in graphical quality. But it's amazing for PCVR. But a few games shine out like red matter 2 and underdogs. I also think the combat in until you fall is better than Asguards wrath 2. Compoud is amazing and so is vertigo 1 & 2, I find both unbelievable as they were both developed by 1 person & make so many other developers look like they just don't get it.
We definitely have a enough job simulator, fruit ninja casual games out there.
    Great Vid.

Holy shit I have to thank you. Had a weird coincidental run in with your channel with your recent video on Contractors Showdown. I had just gotten a quest 3 (with pcvr capabilities) after owning the original quest awhile back due to the hype over Contractors. While it is fun and I enjoy it, I was disappointed by some of the glitchiness and getting killed by people I either couldn’t see (nearby) or killed so quickly that the actual gunfire was delayed due to latency. So that video resonated with me and then I got 4 of the games you recommended in this and the innovative vr games video and they are way more satisfying to play and experience in VR.
Kudos to you for calling out an issue (rampant poor quality games and lack of standards) that I didn’t really know was such a problem

Have you discussed VTOL VR on your channel yet? I’d say it qualifies. The cockpits are fully motion controller interactive and the head is involved, with helmet tracking features from modern fighter jets. The developer is very passionate about vr games properly making use of motion controls and the headset.
The game itself is extremely mechanically deep and there is a non-negligible skill hurdle to get over until you start having fun, then the real learning begins. Being a combat flight sim, it’s pretty niche which can make it difficult to recommend as it depends on your interest in fighter jets. Imagine DCS, but more gamified and easier to get into.
Graphics are pretty good but some may find them lacking. The aircraft look great, buildings look good, but roads and terrain are a bit simple. However, the polish is very good on the mechanics and it features a mission and map editor that creates amazing missions in the right hands.

One of the best selling and most active VR games, is one that I would call revolutionary in its genre(I say this as a 50 year old with decades of experience in the genre at hand). Hands down one of the top tier VR experiences that can be had in the ‘overwhelmingly positive’ one man tour de force that is: VTOL VR. It’s a highly polished and surprisingly deep experience that I can’t recommend highly enough.

@@MrVRVoice you can basically extent a part of a sentence you said about vox machinae to every simulator that take place in a cockpit "... a medium being so perfectly suited for VR."
VTOL VR is the best of them in the sense that plane simulator are some of the most know and polished simulator there is, its no surprise that one made for VR benefited from all the experience that was already made for flatscreen, while mech sim (which is my favorite subgenre but in very specific way) is way to much of a niche for that level of polish.

I'd love to see more lists like this, but focused on specific genres (i.e. adventure, FPS, you could even do one dedicated to roguelikes/roguelites). People are always looking for good games to play, most "Top" lists simply focus on popularity, and while that is often a good metric, I like that you focus on quality and that there is a bit more meat and fidelity in these games, but it would be good for you to expose more hidden gems within the genre as I'm sure there are at least a few.

Great video and i agree with pretty much all of it. Curious of your thoughts on RUMBLE. I see its in your library from the shot of the best sellers at the end but was not mentioned. I think it meets pretty much all of your criteria except for intuitive contols. Much like a real martial art its hard to learn and takes practice and building muscle memory but once you do learn how to play its very satisfying and reliable, i personally believe it deserves at least an hoborable mention.

I featured RUMBLE on the Innovative Game list, which is why it didn’t get an honourable mention here: th-cam.com/video/RhdtjV8fsOk/w-d-xo.html
And I made a lengthy video impressions on it here:
      th-cam.com/video/I5j8sj9ZrI0/w-d-xo.html
I’m a fan of RUMBLE though it’s scope and content are too limited and unrefined to justify it being high quality in my eyes. I think a viewer who trying based on this video would come away disappointed from it being pvp only, not well-explained, sparse in content…and if they did get further into it, would come to see the MASSIVE flaws of the networking and lacking clarity of pose requirements which the inadequate training does not address. Great innovative concept which I love, but not near high quality all in all.
I’m really disappointed they’ve chosen to focus on the most vapid and shallow aspect of player engagement, cosmetics and skins, rather than continue to build on the core gameplay and revamp the training.

@@MrVRVoice yea I probably should have checked the rest of your channel first, my bad. I just had this video randomly pop up and wasn't familiar with the rest of your content. I do agree it needs to be better explained and have a little more content. I'm unsure what a non PvP mode would look like for rumble but it does have custom games called parks where you can freely just play around and do minigames like rock basketball and stuff. As for the customisation I believe that's because they are reworking the performance of the avatars and the like which brings it one step closer to working on standalone and the customisation of those avatars is an added bonus of reworking them. It's also the most requested feature (other than standalone port) so they are just doing what the community is asking for. I think for bootstrap island it is important to mention the huge lack of real content in the game. While it seems, that there is much to do in the first 3 nights, it quickly becomes apparent, that this is literally all the game has to offer. The whole gameplay can be summarised in, eat a coconut (or some other fruit), build a campfire, repeat. Don't get me wrong, this game has great potential, but like so many other early access VR titles, it is greatly lacking

    Regarding modded games
Modded skyrim VR is probably one of the most appealing i've seen (sadly can't say from experience)
The combination of a handful VR centric mods to make the game less "skyrim with funny camera and worse world interaction" to an actual immersive VR experience.
Pair that with the giant expansive world with a grand many captivating scenes in the game, be it an inn or a mountain range, and i believe it's one of the more long lasting VR games.
That's not to mention the excessive amount of mods to up the visuals or alter the game to your liking if you're up for..... a good bit of hassle.

HL2VR works so well because HL2 was designed according to "VR" principles in the first place, that is to say, the principles ALL first person games used to strive for "flat" or otherwise. Which is immersion, immersion into a virtual space, immersion into a virtual body. It is modern "flat" games which have become so "symbolized" in their design that they no longer match up to that.
Simply having a game be in 3D was the "VR" of that time.

PSVR2 has some absolute bangers. Synapse is short but the interactivity of its worlds and the way it uses eye tracking is superlative!
Horizon Call of the Mountain is a fantastic game bar the awkward combat in a circle gimic that takes away what made the flatscreen games so fun to fight robot dinosaurs.

I personally would also add the game Genotype. I think it has good graphics, a decent single player campaign, and imo it doesn't have the usual jank that we see in most VR games. I also like the approach that you need to manage your supply of "ammunition" like in older RE games. It's not great and the environment becomes somewhat repetitive, but it is a good game to try imo given that the list of VR games with good singleplayer campaigns is unfortunately extremely small.

  • @fazureofficial
    @fazureofficial 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Great recommendations! Here's my nobody opinion:
    1) No Into the Radius, H3VR, Hellsplit Arena or Blade & Sorcery? Especially considering the extended playtime afforded by these games' excellent modding support (such as H3VR's "extraction shooter" type mods and various take & hold characters/maps - not to say a game's value should be propped up mainly by the available volunteer-created community content. That said, I do believe their vanilla state warrants a spot on this list)
    2) You included Xona Project X which makes the omission of Into the Radius sting even more
    3) No Walking Dead Saints & Sinners? I get it has issues but I think the presentation and structure of a linear campaign is fairly good
    4) I actually agree with the omission of multiplayer shooters like Pavlov, Contractors etc from this list. With no way to play a game offline/alone, it is a very risky purchase and the actual content of these games is really barebones compared to flatscreen counterparts
    5) Some great picks for background music :)
    6) I would've rated Light Brigade much higher if it had a proper campaign rather than a rogue-lite structure and, as you say, better AI/etc. It's got a great player controller, good themes and is well-rounded but definitely leaves you wanting more.
    7) Are you looking forward to The Burst?

  • @Ecksehrin

As for After the Fall, a possible reason for the awkwardness of the animations are due to the difficulty. I believe the difficulty scales their animation speed funnily enough, as high level gameplay is MUCH faster, as well as varying looks of the zombies due to ice armor. Not to say that it removes the jankiness to it, but it's definitely less noticeable with much faster animation and 2x the zombies. I didn't really care too much about my immersion in the game, but it has a solid gameplay loop that has taken up the most time I've spent in a VR shooter

This is a bit of an odd question, for those with quest headsets, but is your PCVR experience any good? In my experience, I have faced awful jitter in PCVR in nearly every configuration for steam link, virtual desktop, air link, and oculus link (cable). The only way I can get around this is by playing games over oculus link via cable, using the oculus runtime. I doubt I face any networking issues since the awful jitter is consistent across wired link (using non-oculus runtime) and the wireless options. Yet, I rarely see anybody talk about this, and I am unable to find any proper solution. If anybody has faced similar issues, please tell me about it.

I don't think it is an issue with my cable either since the oculus app reports it to be working fine. Though, using the cable alone is not enough to prevent the jitter; I have to set apps to use the oculus runtime. This will fix the issue for relevant games, but only when using link via cable. The issue is that not all games, such as hla, support this. I should also point out that I don't think I had this issue when I first started PCVR on quest 2 about 2 and a half years ago.
