Dude, I'm going through your videos, and I have to say I haven't seen such honest video game critique content since TOTAL BISCUIT. The nauseating youtube VR community, are always so stupidly positive, and we all know VR won't improve if every new game and every new update is "THE BESTEST EVER NOW GIVE ME MORE MERCH", because all it does is propogate mediocrity.

Ghost of Tabor is my new favorite game across the board. I'm a die hard console player and I haven't touched my one x for a week and a half. This game has no limits aside from stability... but it's early access beta... I can work with the problems.

I think what "milsim" VR shooters should start doing, is restricting rotation speed for characters to encourage using VR space to look around. That would make games more immersive and also fix the janky movement.

On the movement note, depending on your system you can move slower simply by not pushing the joystick all the way, and if you raise or lower your guns you'll move at normal speed rather than the slowed speed of having them raised. Not sure if you caught these things, but they're kinda neat and if put together with controller-based maneuvers it could be amazing.

I enjoy how you do your commentary, reallly love G.O.T so far and all the patches and upcoming updates.. before I say what I say just know you got my subscribe buttttt you talked about “players being upset for the bugs or glitches on a paid product” the game was around 20$ , and it’s early access it hasn’t even been out for a month yet and the gameplay you can get out of it is very addicting

They're slowly making progress, but some of that may be subjective.

Yup. I was wrong in this video and am beyond disappointed at the jank state Tabor remains in.

  • @CGEE_Music
    @CGEE_Music 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Contrary to another comment, I solidly believe the majority of issues listed here have been fixed to a reasonable extent, along with an abundance of additional content and new features. Mind I did say reasonable extent, I don't believe these are full fixes but I do believe they are significant enough.
    To list the main things:
    - Grab jank, I feel that multiple patches have incrementally improved this ten fold from the issues seen in this video, there is also a 'skill' to using the angle of your grab to increase your success rates with the grabbing, however there have been some vast improvements in the base mechanics. In general I would say the 50% of errors have been reduced down to around 20-30%, which is significant. With some skill in learning the 'angles' to grab from, I can often go multiple matches in a row without feeling like there has been any significant jank, other than maybe a couple of small interactions.
    - Movement, I do believe the movement was slowed and the sprint speed reduced to only become the case when the gun is lowered, this doesn't achieve the nice arm swing movement that you mentioned, but at least by having the gun lowered, there is a trade off for movement, which means you will often see people cease sprinting when clearing new areas and not sprinting around corners like you'd see in games such as Pavlov or Contractors.
    - Audio, my main issue with the game would be the vertical sound, I think the horizontal directional sound has come forward by a good amount, but the vertical sound is completely non-existent, unless someone steps on metal and I know metal is above me, then I can't locate the person from their vertical sound cues.
Overall I do think the game needs a lot more work, but I feel that the game has come on a reasonable amount to display that the devs are working on, and are not aren't ignoring the issues this game has. In general, there is still jank, but it has been much improved, and the additional high quality content that has been added to the game does sweeten this deal.
I think your comments that this game is worth investing in still hold true, despite the remaining jank, as I feel the pace of the games improvements is consistent enough that it will soon get to a point where the jank is so minimal that it won't be overly noteworthy.
Edit: Also to add, while there are games that do gun mechanics better (i.e. H3VR, maybe Tactical Assault, Boneworks), those games don't feel like full games as much as they are sandboxes. I feel like Tabor is the 'best' shooter we have in terms of having good gun mechanics and a full gameplay loop. Granted there are roguelites like The Light Brigade that do gun mechanics well, but I don't feel like the Light Brigade is as impressive as a full package. So while Tabor is flawed, I think a majority of people, are willing to look past a lot of jank, because it's one of, if not the only game with good gun mechanics, that is also a complete game package, this does need to be considered. As you've said before, VR sadly is an underrepresented market with little to no games of true high quality, so people are often able to settle for "the best we've got", because people like you and myself, want to play VR.

As usual I totally agree with everything you've said. I'll just expand a bit though and say this... Combat Waffle Studios could be the next big Meta acquisition if they play their cards right. They have a system seller of a game on their hands. I know this because I've literally had friends buy a headset just to get into this game. It's *THE* game they've been waiting for (Tarkov in VR).
That said, the road is long for these devs and I worry because in their launch party discussion one of the lead developers already mentioned how tired they are. Developer burnout is a real threat to any product and if these guys don't have the patience and desire to fix all of these challenging issues, then this game will never reach its potential and it will be yet another disappointing VR game.
Even if you fixed all the jank there are still so many areas where the game is just so basic. The sound quality and design as you pointed out in this video is SERIOUSLY basic. The movement system is so basic you could find it in an N64 game. Etc. Etc. So even the things that are "working" are doing so in a pretty basic form and quality that leaves me a bit skeptical that the game will ever achieve greatness.
I hope I'm wrong and I genuinely hope that I have no clue what I'm talking about and that these devs will absolutely crush it over the next couple of years but man they have a long way to go.

Might be just "my problem" but I don't buy it, Ghost of Tabor promise semi-realistic experience of detailed gear managment, coop-shooting action. And deliver ugly looking buggy-junky mess... "but it's early access!!!"... great I don't fucking care, developers don't care, nobody care about pitty excuses in style "it's early access". Ghost of Tabor did not show anything special or engaging... yet. If they would deliver game in playable state I would probably not be so harsh, but they did not and gaming industry landscape is covered by halfbaked projects with good idea and there is even more projects which try to be some other game with some gimmick (and be fair most of marketing it based on "it's like escape from tarkov").
I don't care about promises of innovation, I care about inovation. I am customer-consumer not investor.

This is going to be the life of PC VR for a while because VR is does not have the same install base as PC/Console. Unless you're Valve or willing to take a giant risk for your investors you aren't going to work for years with no stream of income to release a finished game. Game development already takes way too long even for the "simplest" of concepts to be made. If this wasn't Early Access the developer probably would have given up because they can't feed their family or themselves.

@@kieganmoon6175 Actually I've never bought any CoD, first AAA title which I bought in last 5 years was Elden ring... but I guess that was not the point. I support indie developers which deliver viable product - Valheim, Exanima, Space Engineers, Scum, Rimworld - I support all of them since very beginning and all of them delivered playable and quiet enjoyable experience since day 1. the fact they are or they was in early access is really after thought for me.
If that is not enough I am indie developer myself and working on my own project I might be forced to do "early access" in some point of development, but I want to deliver playable product and hopefully deliver additional features in future... but hey that's really personal opinion and
Combat Waffle Studios might be forced to do that... but they not gonna see my money until they deliver "something".
