thank you so much for making hematology easy. your channel is really helpful :D by the way dont care about the negative comments because some people never appreciate good things.
I am very fair white, redhead, 100% Northern European (23&me) but have thalassemia. I’m from Los Angeles but my ancestors can be traced to Mediterranean areas too. If you have thalassemia I suggest you take a DNA test. It’s very interesting to see where your genes come from.
Maldives (south Asian country) has the highest number of thalassemia carriers. About 18% or little bit more. That means 1 out of every 4 men is a carrier,
You were really good.... And trust me with that ..... Haters are all over so don't mind them .... You are doing awesome 👍🏻👍🏻 keep up good work... Thanks 😁

Hemotetramers will be formed - will precipitate in RBCs coz water insoluble Globin chains decreased -> Hemoglobin decreased, hence anemia, will lead to ineffective erythropoiesis

If there is a problem in alpha or beta chains, hemotetramers will be formed. They are water insoluble & will precipitate in the RBCs, causing ineffective erythropoiesis. Since a hemoglobinopathy dec.globin --> decreased Hb hence anemia.
I have thalassemia but I'm African American. None of my other siblings have it. I'm not Asian, middle eastern or African. Maybe my ancestors are from somewhere around the Mediterranean.
Thank you so much for your comment. I am so sorry to hear about your condition. I truly wish you best of luck. Yeah, may be ancestors from that area. **This is just for educational purposes only, I am not an expert on these issues** Thanks again!
Now I'm not a genius in any way 😂 but my doctor explained it to me like thalassemia and sickle cell anemia are pretty much the same thing. Sickle cell is the name when black people have it and thalassemia is when white people have it. I'm not sure how true it is though. I have it too
That’s simply NOT TRUE! Sickle cell anemia and thalassemia are different diseases...Yes, they both cause hemolysis, but that doesn’t mean they are the same. Look up their genetics and you will see the difference! Thanks!
@@MedicosisPerfectionalis thanks, it's all good. I'm a silent carrier, which means I'm perfectly healthy i.e. I have one gene. It takes 3 genes to have the actual disease :)
Thanks a lot for this video, I am from Afghanistan. I did my HB electrophoresis after watching your videos. My test results are like this: HBA1 92.9% HBA2 5.5% Fetal HB 1.6 % So how do you interpret this whether I am thalassemia trait carrier/minor or not?
