im just glad to live in this generation where everything can be explained through the internet. years back, such good content and explanation is nowhere to be find except from your in-class concentration or book in the library. still, there is no one to give you a good explanation on the things that you read. you still can read, but that doesn't mean you understand what supposed to be understand. this explanation is really good and precise. really helpful. thank you.
This was explained really well. The man I was married to and his mother had Thalassemia Minor. She was asymptomatic but he was chronically anemic, hbg usually around 12 gm/dL, and it made him pretty much exhausted every day. He had to take good care of his liver, especially since he also had Gilbert Syndrome.
I have thal minor and gilbert's syndrome. I feel exhausted all the time and feel like it's in my head sometimes. This is validating. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome, I am from Peru and I have to search for information in english because that information is beautifully described like your videos. Sadly, I can't say the same thing with information in spanish. Keep doing videos like this because you are helping a lot of medicine students. Thanks for making these videos.
También hay videos de ósmosis en español pero no vienen todos los temas, y como dices, en español casi no hay videos que expliquen bieb las enfermedades en general
I have this stupid disease and it’s really horrible being exhausted all the time. I have minor but it’s definitely not asymptomatic. Long Covid sure hasn’t helped. The worst part though is people not understanding what it’s like to be in a state of frequent exhaustion and they just think you’re lazy. I know there are worse problems to have but it is frustrating to deal with.
According to my PCP (general physician) this is considered a disability, so maybe you can get compensation or help that way. I've just discovered I have it and am learning.
This would be a better video if some of the more complex medical terms pertaining to the description of thalassemia were explained better. I am really interested in this topic, but words started to go in one ear and out the other because it was a lot of medical terminology without descriptions. Other then that the video was good.
My sister died as a result of this illness and I’m trying to understand how on earth it even happened. Wish I’d taken an interest far, FAR sooner. In any case, thanks for this video.
I’m tired all the time and sick all the time too for years and with yellow palms. I got COVID recently and have the long COVID symptoms…like cough and metallic taste in my mouth. So my doctor ordered a chest X-ray. And wala….she noticed that I may have this disease due to some results seen in my spine in the X-ray, and all of these just happened today. But I have to do some bloodwork to confirm the condition. I just got all these information and started researching and found this video here. And this really explains everything thing I needed to know about this condition. Thanks for sharing!🙏🏾
Thank you ma'am for making this video. Its very well presented, informative from medical and genetics and inheritance point of view. Thank you once again. 🙏🏻
What would be the child combination from beta minor and alpha minor parents? Tried to seek info in the internet, but there are very limited journal talking about this.
What can I do to treat my beta thalassemia minor? I play hockey and I seem to get fatigued way quicker than others and I have trouble focusing, is there anything I can do? I already live a pretty healthy lifestyle so I don’t know what to do
Anyone responsible is going to tell you to consult with your doctor or care provider. What mine gave me was a shot of B-12 to help temporarily, but I'm not sure it worked.
Let me know if you found answers. All sources seem to describe beta thalassemia minor as being asymptomatic. However, I have been experiencing a feeling of sluggishness, prone to fatigue, and a quicker fatigue rate in comparison to individuals of my age with the same lifestyle.
I just got my blood work results and I have beta Thalassemia. My red blood cells are smaller than usual, kinda pale and fragile. He told me that my bones are producing more than usual to compensate for the fragile red blood cells. Lastly, my iron count is a bit lower than it should be. This explains why, since I was in middle school, after 2pm - 3pm I'd feel really tired and would often fall asleep in class. I'd get made fun of by class mates and get in trouble by the teachers but no one knew and I couldn't help it. Do you think the pale red blood cells that are fragile is something I should be concerned about.? What about the increased production of red blood cells, can that spiral into something serious in the future.?
Is it possible for a baby 5 months with Beta thalassemia major hemoglobin level to go back up after falling ,with out treatment before any transfusions?
I have question my dad is carrier but my mom is normal including me there is 4 kids i have my dad blood type and one of my sibling too other two siblings have my mom blood type im the first kid they had am i gonna be carrier?
Hello to the voice behind this Video, as you’ve liked every comment I hope you’ll notice my comment as well. My cousins have thallasemia and getting blood transfused from 9 months age and spleen operated as it enlarged. Not my sister, had CBT blood test. As she had fever. And got 97 g/l hemoglobin or 9.7 g/dl she had rise in bilirubin and low MCV. She have another test on Friday KMPORTANT TO MENTION she’s 21 years old. As my cousins got it at 9 months age, is it safe to assume it is minor thalla? Also on test it says Microcytosis +3…. I am very confused and stressed I would have happily volunteered in front of god to give me this condition but not to my sis she usually get very tended 🙁
When I watched first few secs of video I loved it and wanted to comment and get in touch. Then I was scared to see million subscriber as I knew I may not get any reply 😢

12 g/dl is pretty good as far as i know.not the best thing ever, but mostly asymptomatic. So i’d assume his anemia is very minor?

Thalassemia intermedia. Not minor not major anemia could be mild to moderate. Check out haematologist.

If one partner is a carrier and the other is unaffected, some of your siblings may be carriers while others may be unaffected.
