Yeah, Four Roses, high west, and several others. Agree with the Michters. But, I went out and bought the Coopers. Well, two sips later, I gave it away. We don’t have similar palates, it tasted like birch beer mixed with whisky to me. But I still like the channel!
Chattanooga 111 is an excellent bottle that comes in right at $50 where I live. That and the Russells Reserve 10 are my 2 favorites. A few nights ago I opened a bottle of Remus Ive had for a few weeks and its also a great pour.
Vast majority of markets will not have EHT on the shelf under $50. In MD and VA nearly impossible to find anymore, and at $50 would be an automatic buy.
Thanks, i just turned 21 and i dont want to be like some of the other people my age who just drinks to get drunk. I would rather drink to enjoy the taste and the craftsmanship that goes into making bourbon.
I found a gem a few days ago, Knob creek 9 year single barrel reserve @ 120º . $43.00 at s local store. gives Old Forester 1920 a run for its money. Delicious. **Edit** Just re-checked the price and they raised the price to $49.95. Better go buy a few more bottles before it gets worse. This inflation sucks. Prices going up daily.
Do I see you have a Jack Daniels 10 year bottle behind you? I would of loved to get a bottle let alone try it out! Have you tried the Jack Daniels Bonded yet?
Is this the new Early Times? It was purchased by Sazerac/Barton and the bottle changed (metal cap), not as good as the old bottle(plastic cap). Rumor is coopers craft is the the old- Brown Foreman mash bill.
@@brianfriest Cooper's Craft Barrel Reserve is a Brown Forman product like the old Early Times bib (which was my previous daily drinker) Coopers is also 100 proof, but the taste profile is different. Coopers is aged in special chiseled barrels that give more surface area to interact with the mash. For $30, I love it. A little oaky, butterscotch, a little spice, vanilla.
I think Basil Hayden is under $50 and I see it on the shelf a lot. I think is a great value as well. I do like the ECSB and have not opened the Four Roses yet. I will check the shelves for the ones in the video. I do not think I will find many.
Just saw this and I loved the video! I like having Jaime's thoughts because I am newer to bourbon and feel I relate to her a bit more than some of the whiskey experts lol! Keep up the good vids.
I really appreciate your channel. I'm just down the highway in VA and am dealing with the same bare shelves at the VA ABC stores. It's actually very helpful when you share these attainable bottles. I like higher proof so I'll definitely be checking out the Cooper Craft. Thanks!
Thanks so much for this. Recently retired to Lexington KY, a world of bourbons here (five minute walk to a bar with hundreds of bourbons.) I’m just learning with moderately priced small batch bottles and am having fun doing so. This episode gave me a lot of direction and m anxious to try some, especially the Remus and Four Roses Small Batch, and the Coopers Craft.
Nice flight of good bourbons. While watching, I had to pull out my coppers craft 100 and your strawberry cream note really came through. Might be power of suggestion, but I’ve been enjoying that whiskey a lot lately. It’s good to find reviewers that match my own preferences and pallet. Thanks!
For the most part I'm past the sub 100 proof whiskies. The exception here would be the Michters. They have such low barrel entry proof that they are still flavorful at 91 proof. I guess I could choke down those others but for my money give me 100 proof and up. That Rare Breed that you left out is my jam.
Still haven't had Michters, not an easy one to find where I'm at I found 2 stores near me that just got a few bottles of us-1 and the rye. I stick to 100 proof most of the time because there is more happening on the pallet
Another very enjoyable video. I would definitely include Wild Turkey rare breed and Blue Note Juke Joint uncut. Both easy to find in Tennessee and under $50.
@@jacobking4106 Here in the Nashville/Murfreesboro area it's available at most liquor stores. For example Cool Springs Liquors in Franklin and Elixir in Spring Hill.
I bought so much whiskey in 2021 that I’m set for a few years, unless I become a raging alcoholic. My wife thinks I’ve lost my mind. My goal is to not buy a single bottle in 2022.
Love your videos. This one was really helpful. I just started on a bottle of Russell’s Reserve. Didn’t care to much for it the first time but it’s growing on me.
I cannot find the Cooper's Craft Barrel Reserve ANYWHERE around me. I have heard only great things about it. I am hesitant to get the Russel's 10-year since it doesn't earn the $14 markup over the WT101. With the Rare Breed being only a few dollars more, I might never have Russel's 10-year.
Thanks again for the awesome lottery and contributions to the Ukraine support effort! Though I didn't win, it was a great cause. For me, I like the Yellowstone Select and Blade & Bow. Sometimes, I can find Bardstown Bourbon Fusion.
As always, a well-done video. I agree with these for the most part. EC is such a great value for a baseline 47% product. I am getting somewhat aggravated at how Bourbon has been trending, but hey, it is what it is. Cheers.
Michter's is $49 in VA, gotta go to DC/MD to get it in the $40 range, and if you do grab a Michter's American also, it's so good I don't care it's "technically" not bourbon. Coopers 100 is the other homerun from this list. ps - Did you score an Elmer's last week for $37 at the ABC? Can't wait to crack it open.
Jamie (aka Pepe Le Pew*) has come far in her bourbon journey and it's been fun and interesting to watch her mature as a whiskey drinker. * Would have been funny to have David return with a black eye, missing tooth, and band-aids all over following the cut after that comment. LOL!
Nice list. Big fan of the Michters line except the rye - maybe I have a bad bottle, but I like the Bourbon and American. As another commenter said, I'd take 4 Roses Single Barrel over Small Batch any day. I really like Elijah Craig for the price point. Wilderness Trail - I like, especially the 6-year, but all of their line are overpriced, IMHO. I'd pick Rare Breed over Russel's 10, but Russel's Single Barrel over Rare Breed, but it is up over that $50 mark. Still haven't gotten the Coopers' - on my short list of next purchases.
Nice list and explaining the flavors on all. The George Remus is one of my so-called daily drinkers along with Yellowstone Select. I can’t remember if you reviewed Yellowstone yet, but it’s a very easy sipper with some nice flavors.
It's not a bad list but they are all similar flavor profile. I like to try different ones and different profiles. I know people that would see that list and look at you side ways cause they hate that profile and prefer Buff Trace, Bulliet, Old Forester etc.. which is more a Vanilla Honey Carmel Profile cause they don't like the "Spice" in the products you listed. I love them all so I'm good but I would have made a more diverse list that was more inclusive.
Great job on the video! I agree with everything on your list, and if you added an eighth, it might be Larceny. Readily available most places and under your $50 threshold. Cheers!
Love Chattanooga but not available in PA so I trade my FL relatives blantons for that. My favorite that was left off the list was New Riff single barrel
I’m still gonna always prefer the wheated/Yellow Label version of the Wilderness Trail BiB (exact same mash bill, just replace rye with wheat)…and I generally don’t dig wheaters. Being able to easily get Wilderness Trail and stuff like the Stellum bottles for a mid-range price as an alternative to always drinking the big boys, or traveling/shipping to get stuff like New Riff makes me happy. Agree with the Chattanooga 111 comment. I need to give Cooper’s Craft BiB another go.
Couldn’t disagree more with Michter’s small batch. OF 1897 is under $50 for me as is 1920. I’d pick either easily over Michter’s, but everyone’s pallet is different. I’m in the minority over EC as I don’t really like it. I’m not the biggest HH fan in general. I’d probably put a KC in there somewhere, but I like Beam, so take that for what it is.
