I love how you recommend some Bourbon that you don't really like because you understand the perspective of a beginner. That is very smart and surprisingly quite rare.
I've been drinking bourbon for 25 years, and I still picked up some knowledge from this. Great job, Jason. Very straight-forward, easy to absorb information.
I'm 50 and I've been drinking scotch/rocks for 20 years. Recently decided to give bourbons a go, so these videos are highly informative. I'm currently enjoying a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 and Knob Creek. I have bottles of Early Times Bottled-In-Bond and Old Forrester 86 in reserve for something lighter, and I'm looking forward to trying both the Larceny and Woodford Reserve. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
I’m right there with you (64). Lifelong single malt scotch guy. Usually a Speyside or unpeated Islay. Jason has gotten me educated to where I’m enjoying my bourbon journey. So far OF 1920 and Knob Creek 120° are my favorites. Angles Envy and Eagle Rare just weren’t complex enough given my love for a deeply complex scotch.
This is a must watch video for all looking to get in to bourbon. Absolutely fantastic details in this Jason. Best in the business right here!!! Cheers buddy
Watching again almost two years later. Your recommended bottles are great choice’s and I’ve had them all over my two year journey. Really great advice! I share this video with friends first starting. Cheers!
Been a vodka drinker for many years but some of my friends love bourbon so I thought I’d give it a shot. Your beginnings guide was perfect. Thanks so much for the info.
I knew nothing about whiskey and wanted to learn. I found your channel the best so far in explaining the basics. You get right to the point, very organized and great visual presentations. 👍👍
Great video! I love the end where you state "there is no wrong way to drink bourbon" This is the first thing I tell people that are getting into whiskey.
Excellent!! Thank you. I'm just getting started on my bourbon journey. I appreciate the comparison, recognition of what to look for in taste, and value, as well as distillery history.
I’ve been interested in getting into bourbon and this is the easiest, most informative and entertaining video I’ve ever seen. Great job and thank you for educating!! Subscribed!!
Fantastic amount of information, especially for a beginner of which I am one! Especially like the ending comment - we each need to enjoy our bourbon however we want.
Excellent overview Jason. I've been drinking scotch for 40 + years & have only started to dabble in bourbon for the past 3 years .... I feel so ashamed!!! a few I have enjoyed were Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey 101, Woodfordes standard and Double cask, Makers Mark & Makers 46. Once again. Many Thanks for sharing your knowledge. (From Australia)
Absolutely a great video for beginner bourbon drinkers. Great bourbon choices, descriptions plus history of the spirit. Can't believe you've only been at this for 5yrs.
Very new to the bourbon game, started with Angels Envy, had the pleasure to try Blanton’s, Woodford Reserve Double Barrel and Crown Royal Reserve. Great video, it is so overwhelming walking into a liquor store and seeing so many options. This clears up several of my questions.
Started with wanting to go south of the border to pickup a bottle of Heaven's Door, being a Dylan fan. & now the list continues to grow now the I've found my Heaven's Door. Great job always !
I am new to Bourbon and I found this video very helpful. I like the way you let us know there is no wrong way to drink Bourbon. Keep up the great work. You are my favorite new channel.
Great video, I am a beginner bourbon drinker and have been overwhelmed by all the varieties of bourbon, this video has helped me understand where to begin. Thank you for sharing this video
Although I know all of this stuff (as most of your fans do, I suspect) it was brilliantly produced and written. Every single bourbon newbie needs to watch this! Well done, Jaxson. Maybe your best episode yet!
@@TheMashandDrum yeah I’m not a newbie but far from an expert but wish I would have seen this way back in the day. Right to the point and very well done. I’ll make sure to send this to anyone that is interested and wants to get started. Thank you!
Really appreciate your posts, and thanks for representing C Bus! I've only been into bourbon for about 3 years, and still learning but thanks for all you do for us. Hope I run into you in line some day.
Dude, this helped me so much. With all the bib, reserve, small batch, single barrel etc it gets hard to select a good one. Just getting into bourbons and trying to find a great one. So far the best I’ve had is Woodford Reserve. I’m working my way up to double oaked. I’ve heard it described good as angel’s tears so I can’t pass that up
This is a must see for bourbon enthusiasts, people just getting into bourbon, and people looking just to learn about the world of bourbon! Amazing stuff here! Invaluable! Cheers!
18:14 I definitely prefer my whisky straight. *For me* if it's good whisky, it already has plenty of good flavor. I've never added water to a whisky and tasted an improvement. But every palate is different, and some people may prefer the taste on water or ice. If so, more power to 'em. As Rex Williams and Daniel Whittington put, the best whisky is the whiskey you like, the way you like to drink it. 🙂🥃
Thank you Jason....I am new to the wonderful world of bourbon and you've become my go to guy for bourbon knowledge. Appreciate what you do.....keep up the great work!
Outstanding! The best Bourbon presentation I've seen yet. Started drinking Bourbon three years ago at the age of 65. Didn't take long to find my favorite... Eagle Rare. Too bad it's so hard to find. Elijah Craig Small Batch is a close second. Now I need to find the Barrel Proof version.
I know this was shot about a year and a half ago and I've been drinking whiskies of all types for about 30 years. Have recently come back to bourbon as my go to sipper and I really enjoyed this video as well as several others you've put out. Great job, love the honest no nonsense approach, keep it up, you got me as a patron.
This is a very informative video and quite entertaining too. In a nutshell, this is an encyclopedia of what is Bourbon. Now I feel this is the start of me becoming a Bourbon fanatic.
Excellent video!! I am not a drinker but my friend is and I'm getting him a starter collection for Christmas so I have been taking a crash course on bourbon. Getting him 6 bottles: Old Forester 1920 Early Times BiB Wild Turkey Rare Breed Wild Turkey 101 Elijah Craig Small Batch 1792 Small Batch
Great video. As a beer drinker just starting out on my whisky journey, I have struggled to find what I like. I have determined that I don't like scotch, I like the easy drinkability of Irish whisky (don't worry, I won't use "smooth" as an descriptor, lol) and I've recently found a couple of bourbons that I like. Going into a liquor store can be so overwhelming due to the sheer volume of options, and the fact that everyone likes different things for different reasons. Taking someone else's word can cause you to end up $30-$60 poorer and with an open bottle that you don't like, which sucks. I really like how you've laid out the info and broken down some suggestions based on character and flavor notes.
So I just had an Old Fashioned with Elijah Craig for the first time and now I’m going down the bourbon rabbit hole. Excited to explore this new world! Thanks for this guide! 😄
Appreciated the message at the end about not needing to drink bourbon neat. Being new to this world, I’m definitely feeling intimidated and probably need to add ice to start 😅
@@heatherjustcreate yeah don't let anyone tell you not to add ice, water or mix it. Sip the way you like it and eventually when your ready you can get to neat.
I am new to the Bourbon journey. This video has helped me more than you know. This video also helped my list to get grow🤣. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge Jason. Thanks so much. Keep your glass full 🥃 and blessings from Gettysburg.
Well this is an incredible video and one I sure hope a lot of people see and share. This is only going to help a lot of people out there. As always another great video! Cheers Maverick!
I'm a big bourbon fan and I have to agree with Chris Harmon. While I love bourbon, my taste is pretty limited so I'm definitely interested in trying some of these out.
Thanks for this very helpful information. I want to start in this whiskey adventure and this video provides the exact information to start for begginers
This is a great great video Jason!!! Mash and Drum channel really did put me onto bourbons honestly having been a whisky guy for 15 + years, didn’t spent that much time on our ‘native son’ bourbon!! Now I just wish I could find more of the ones I want!!!!
Jason, I enjoyed even more on this second version. So what's next after you have had a chance to catch your breath and relax with a few drinks = A Beginner's Rye Guide and then a Bourbon Master's Class? Hope these help gain more Subs and Patrons!!! CHEERS, this is a GREAT start!!
Larceny is alright in my opinion. I wasn’t blown away by it. Angels Envy however, is incredibly smooth. If you know anything about wine, you will most likely come to appreciate it so much more due to the flavors that come out from the wine barrels.
I love how you recommend some Bourbon that you don't really like because you understand the perspective of a beginner. That is very smart and surprisingly quite rare.
This is one of the best bourbon primer videos I've ever seen. Well done.

You sold me on trying Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. Sounds amazing!
Excellent and informative
Very good info. Thx.

Great video and good information. Like your comment about how to enjoy bourbon, your way.
Makers Mark the old go-to and still one of my favorites super smooth with a creamy finish
love your videos... ive been enjoying bourbon more n more...i need to get back to some scotch as well. thanks for the content
Thank You Jason. Greatly appreciated. It really helps. Now to add to my collection!
Go for it! Any questions let me know!
What you did here was put together in one place a lot of information that took me years to learn on my own... Well done!
Thanks Quig. Appreciate it. Very proud of this video.
Excellent Jason! I love learning. :-)
Very handy guide
I'm a nubile. Thanks for the help bud.
Great job.!
Great presentation.
Great job…thanks👍

Thanks for this very helpful information. I want to start in this whiskey adventure and this video provides the exact information to start for begginers
This was a great presentation if you know nothing about bourbon. Can't wait to try it.
I would like to add, even if you drink bourbon, I am sure this was eye opening. Thanks again.
This is a great great video Jason!!! Mash and Drum channel really did put me onto bourbons honestly having been a whisky guy for 15 + years, didn’t spent that much time on our ‘native son’ bourbon!! Now I just wish I could find more of the ones I want!!!!
Thanks Graeme! I know its tough in Canada.

Yes. Rye guide... top available bourbons for 2019 and a top scotches to try for bourbon lovers. Alot of good stuff coming up.
Great information, thanks.
Great job!
I’ve just tried Longbranch and it was better than I expected. Would like to try Larceny, Woodford Double Oaked and Angels Envy.
Larceny is alright in my opinion. I wasn’t blown away by it. Angels Envy however, is incredibly smooth. If you know anything about wine, you will most likely come to appreciate it so much more due to the flavors that come out from the wine barrels.
I did buy Larceny and find it to be easy drinking. I’ll stick with that for a while...
Love the video. Thanks it was a big help and appreciate the suggestions
Great detailed video! Nice work 👏🥃
