I think the life hack I've learned from watching this and other whisky-tube channels is that if I want to score rare bottles, I need to start a youtube channel.
As long as I can get my hands on Wild Turkey 101 and Old Forester 1920, I'm happy. I like trying new bourbons and whiskeys but I seem to fall back on these two more than any others.
My 5 are... Mixer = Evan Williams Black Label, Daily = WT 101, Friday night pour = Bell Meade Reserve, Impress the Guest = New Riff single barrel, & Special occasion = Blanton's
I agree with the list except the EW. Not a fan but I get it. New Riff really surprised me when I tried it and I think it is an impress your guest bottle. Snagged a bottle because it was just so good.

I would agree with Russell's 10yr as a daily. I love the idea of OF 100pf as a mixer.. My 'wow guests' bottle is a Maker's Private Select store pick from Justin's World of Bourbon in Louisville. My 'Friday Unwind' pour is Knob Creek Barrel Proof. For a celebration currently I would pour my JD SB BP. I know my list is not that dynamic, but I am just trying to keep my selection rolling. Also dead set on avoiding secondary market purchases
I've yet to figure out the hype on eht small batch, I'm optimistic on most bourbons but it's just okay to me. I think it's worth 43 bucks, but not 80-90 on secondary. To each their own. 🥃🥃

It would be helpful to have a list of the ones you discussed in the description and/or links. Some of these I found difficult to look up and I found myself squinting at the bottle in the video to see if I can tell from the label if I got it right.

@@kiotsukeray Hey Ray, It's hard to say because there's so many and everyone has there own taste. I would suggest investing in three types of bottles to start seeing what you like. Get a bourbon like say Buffalo Trace or Eagle Rare. A Rye Whiskey like Michters or Redemption. And maybe an Irish Whiskey like Red Breast 12. I started buying ones that I saw on everyone's list of "must haves" and just went from there. Hope that helps. P.S. Right now my favorite whiskey I have is George Dickel 15 year. It's around $60 and damn good in my opinion. Cheers!
Good video, your video your channel...for me though I'm starting to be over whiskeytube videos highlighting, calling out the unobtaniums. To me it only feeds the hype for folks to grab every bottle IF they can find them which translates to supporting the secondary market which cyclically keeps them on the secondary. These endless videos about EHT, Reemus, Stagg Jr etc just promote secondary, to me. Now I also realize you whiskeytubers get the views when you do vids on these hard to find labels so it's a bit catch 22 round and round.
Great video - I'm approaching a year in bourbon and it's interesting to look back and see how my palate is changing and evolving. I'm still loving my Remus V as my most special bourbon so far.

If I could find it Eagle Rare 10 yr would be in at least 2 spots on my list. As is I love Rare Breed and Russell's Reserve single barrel 10 yr at 110 proof. Stagg jr was the bomb and would be my impress if only I could find another. Loved every drop of the one I got.
I totally get the fear of drinking down one of those bottles that was so hard to come by. We need to start a club where we meet on occasion with our rare bottles and share samples with each other!
My daily go to used to be Larceny. Still enjoy it. It is a easy sipper, but I started my collection a year ago or so....lately I am starting to enjoy the higher proof stuff...100 and higher....

Hey brother! Getting into bourbon recently and you've been exponentially helpful in my journey. Started with Woodford Reserve, it was excellent, moved to Bulleit, not my absolute favorite but it was good, then Larceny Small Batch it was a trial bottle maybe 2oz but it was not impressing me much. I then landed on this video and picked up good old WT for a mixer and after much searching a bottle of RR10. They are both excellent and RR10 is now my favorite. I have a quick question a while back you did a WT blind with 5 different Russell's offerings and you didn't seem to like RR10 at all and even guessed it would make 5th place. From the time between then and now what's caused the change from it being you least favorite in the blind 5 to now it being your daily?
Great video to illustrate the evolution of the pallette in bourbon. And how you don't know what you don't know. There's so many great pours out there and if you haven't had one, the list could change daily, and of course, person to person. Hey Dave - I'm from MD so we're neighbors. Having been trying for months to find the Remus Repeal and can't seem to get lucky. Could go to DC and pay 3x MSRP but would like to find one more affordable. Where were you able to find them? Would love to get one if you have a spare or could stop by one of these days for a pour. I like you and your videos :) I would suggest that you get a close up of the bottles your are talking about because sometimes there are different batches and years of one brand that really look the same and I want to be sure to get the right bottle. Or leave the specific information in the description.
For my Favorite 5. Buffalo Trace always gets in the house. Detroit City Distillery Butchers Cut, Jim Beam Single Barrel, Whistle Pig Piggyback and Larceny.
Love the Russell's 10 but around Northern Detroit area it's more around $55-$60 a bottle where Wild Turkey is under $25. The normal Remus is a GREAT bottle. At just under $40 it's an easy sipper

Russel's Reserve is not in stock where I live and is much more expensive than Wild Turkey. The idea of an everyday drinker is one that is affordable. You can drink what you want as your everyday drink since you live in the land of hundreds of bottles. I don't. My collection of all spirits in my home is less than ten bottles, and I don't now own 5 whiskeys to choose from. I have Johnnie Walker Black label, Wild Turkey 101, and Jack Daniels black label, Rum, Brandy, and Tripple Sec plus beer and wine. I have other things to buy with my disposable income such as my recent purchase of Klipsch RP 600 M at a closeout deal of $300. I don't need to buy another $300 in whiskey. I would consider buying a couple more bottles, or doubling up on what I already have because of supply shortages. Last summer I wanted to buy an integrated amp or a pre-amp and Parasound was nowhere to be found. The shelves are much better stocked with home electronics this summer! For me, Wild Turkey 101 is already close to special occasion stuff and not an everyday sipper especially when I can buy Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, and Evan Williams in the BIG 1.75-liter bottles in the 20-30 range instead of Wild Turkey for the $52. Those apparently don't cut your mustard when it comes to everyday affairs. All three taste great, are good mixers, and are very affordable and available. I will probably add Gilbey's Gin or Myer's dark rum to my collection before adding more whiskey. You may think we all should have your huge collection of several hundred bottles of whiskey costing Thousands and Thousands of dollars, that is not for me. I don't have the space, nor the inclination to have the inventory of a liquor store in my home. It reminds me of my late LP collection that ate my home space. Cheers!
I will take the Russells single barrel over the 10 yr and we can't get Remus Repeal Batch in Florida, or very difficult, but have the regular Remus available its a great MGP product "King of the Bootleggers". For a Rye its Rittenhouse or Old Forrester Rye or Sagamore Rye. In your State of Va John J Bowman. We get Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare and Blantons all day every day in S Florida without a hunt.
I've seen you mention the JTS Brown, before...but never seen that in this state. Every other pick I am totally down with (although haven't landed any WT BiB, Michter's 10 or Remus Repeal yet), ESPECIALLY the Old Forester as a mixer. I love it & my wife likes it a LOT in drinks (and said it's one of the few bourbons she can stand). I'd even go so far as to say that I'd add their Rye 100 as a mixer alternative. They are BOTH so good! Looking forward to this year's hunt...picks this year have been that OF 100 Rye, a Rebel Distiller's Collection, Mortlach 15 year & Cardhu Gold Reserve Single Malt Scotches (Game Of Thrones releases😋, because I'm a nerd, and I STILL love my European/Japanese Whiskies.)

I have a bottle of Russell 10 yr and it’s not for me. Maybe I got a bad bottle but for 90 proof it taste like pure alcohol. At 116.8 the Rare Breed is so much smoother and flavorful
Nice list, much more solid reasoning than last years list. I'm probably going to use WT101 or EW BiB for a mixer just because they are available in handles so the price is ridiculous. For the special occasion bottle, I got a taste of Michters 20 yr at a tasting over Christmas. OMG, probably never get a bottle, even MSRP is $1,700, but that is now my gold standard. I even got a second pour to take outside with a cigar. OMG.
I like the video, and the topic. I don't have enough whiskey to fill in the last two categories, but right now Lost Monarch is my daily sipper and Rare Breed would be my Friday night pour; partially because it is getting harder and harder to find.

I Definitely agree with having a russell's in there. But, e.h. taylor small batch has been a big miss for me. One time it was awful, two other bottles were decent, and one was good. But, definitely not great. But, if you can find it for 40 its probably worth a try.

Yes, the first bottle was messed up somehow and this one is great! I think my current one is the norm and similar to rare breed. The first one was just bad and I can't explain why
I love JTS Brown. I used to have a dozen bottles, but the stuff is about as rare as hens teeth anymore. Now I'm nursing my last two bottles wishing I had treated it a little more special.
I appreciate that you revisited your list. Though I did like your first list, I must say that I like this list even more. I agree with another person's comment that WT 101 fits in the mixer category very well too, alongside OF 100, but both are great neat and mixed in my opinion. Keep the great content coming.

Eagle rare for old fashions only, and not very often. Buffalo trace with diet 7up. I don’t do mixers very often.
Love the list! I’d swap the OF 1920 for the 1792 just because of price. But those two are definitely “go-tos” for me!

I love the OF 100. Not my favorite overall but for some reason the finish reminded me of an iced caramel latte. That single note made it a fun sipper.

I really need to find me most of these. Most of these I never heard of and I thought bourbon was my favorite alcohol. I need to change my habits. Lol. I’m glad I found this channel though. Time to binge watch. I would have some old forester but it’s 1:30 am at the time of writing this.
Hey Dave - I'm from MD so we're neighbors. Having been trying for months to find the Remus Repeal and can't seem to get lucky. Could go to DC and pay 3x MSRP but would like to find one more affordable. Where were you able to find them? Would love to get one if you have a spare or could stop by one of these days for a pour. Love the videos - thanks for sharing.
I like you and your videos :) I would suggest that you get a close up of the bottles your are talking about because sometimes there are different batches and years of one brand that really look the same and I want to be sure to get the right bottle. Or leave the specific information in the description.

For my Favorite 5. Buffalo Trace always gets in the house. Detroit City Distillery Butchers Cut, Jim Beam Single Barrel, Whistle Pig Piggyback and Larceny.
Love the Russell's 10 but around Northern Detroit area it's more around $55-$60 a bottle where Wild Turkey is under $25. The normal Remus is a GREAT bottle. At just under $40 it's an easy sipper

Russel's Reserve is not in stock where I live and is much more expensive than Wild Turkey. The idea of an everyday drinker is one that is affordable. You can drink what you want as your everyday drink since you live in the land of hundreds of bottles. I don't. My collection of all spirits in my home is less than ten bottles, and I don't now own 5 whiskeys to choose from. I have Johnnie Walker Black label, Wild Turkey 101, and Jack Daniels black label, Rum, Brandy, and Tripple Sec plus beer and wine. I have other things to buy with my disposable income such as my recent purchase of Klipsch RP 600 M at a closeout deal of $300. I don't need to buy another $300 in whiskey. I would consider buying a couple more bottles, or doubling up on what I already have because of supply shortages. Last summer I wanted to buy an integrated amp or a pre-amp and Parasound was nowhere to be found. The shelves are much better stocked with home electronics this summer! For me, Wild Turkey 101 is already close to special occasion stuff and not an everyday sipper especially when I can buy Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, and Evan Williams in the BIG 1.75-liter bottles in the 20-30 range instead of Wild Turkey for the $52. Those apparently don't cut your mustard when it comes to everyday affairs. All three taste great, are good mixers, and are very affordable and available. I will probably add Gilbey's Gin or Myer's dark rum to my collection before adding more whiskey. You may think we all should have your huge collection of several hundred bottles of whiskey costing Thousands and Thousands of dollars, that is not for me. I don't have the space, nor the inclination to have the inventory of a liquor store in my home. It reminds me of my late LP collection that ate my home space. Cheers!

I will take the Russells single barrel over the 10 yr and we can't get Remus Repeal Batch in Florida, or very difficult, but have the regular Remus available its a great MGP product "King of the Bootleggers". For a Rye its Rittenhouse or Old Forrester Rye or Sagamore Rye. In your State of Va John J Bowman. We get Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare and Blantons all day every day in S Florida without a hunt.
I've seen you mention the JTS Brown, before...but never seen that in this state. Every other pick I am totally down with (although haven't landed any WT BiB, Michter's 10 or Remus Repeal yet), ESPECIALLY the Old Forester as a mixer. I love it & my wife likes it a LOT in drinks (and said it's one of the few bourbons she can stand). I'd even go so far as to say that I'd add their Rye 100 as a mixer alternative. They are BOTH so good!
Looking forward to this year's hunt...picks this year have been that OF 100 Rye, a Rebel Distiller's Collection, Mortlach 15 year & Cardhu Gold Reserve Single Malt Scotches (Game Of Thrones releases😋, because I'm a nerd, and I STILL love my European/Japanese Whiskies.)
oh my. Whiskey Row and you never address Artisan's Whiskey Row wheated bourbon. Certainly a reasonable go to inexpensive daily right? Maybe you just don't like wheated bourbons?

Just found you. Like the expressions. Have you ever tried a old weller 107 proof bottled in 1972. Gold vein bottle. It was given to me open from a friends estate. Amazing smoothness.

I like your channel. I took one of your tips and asked my liquor store about some of the brands I have been trying to get. He told me what days to swing by during lunch, So I was able to score some Weller Reserve, Russell 10 and Rare Bred by being there on the delivery days. Thanks for the tips.

I have a bottle of Russell 10 yr and it’s not for me. Maybe I got a bad bottle but for 90 proof it taste like pure alcohol. At 116.8 the Rare Breed is so much smoother and flavorful

I have never seen EH Taylor for less than $80... and that's if I can even find it.
Nice list, much more solid reasoning than last years list. I'm probably going to use WT101 or EW BiB for a mixer just because they are available in handles so the price is ridiculous.
For the special occasion bottle, I got a taste of Michters 20 yr at a tasting over Christmas. OMG, probably never get a bottle, even MSRP is $1,700, but that is now my gold standard. I even got a second pour to take outside with a cigar. OMG.

Colonel EH Taylor is hard to get and therefore way overpriced in WA state. Min $100 now when it used to be available for $50 at our local Target.
I like the video, and the topic. I don't have enough whiskey to fill in the last two categories, but right now Lost Monarch is my daily sipper and Rare Breed would be my Friday night pour; partially because it is getting harder and harder to find.

I Definitely agree with having a russell's in there. But, e.h. taylor small batch has been a big miss for me. One time it was awful, two other bottles were decent, and one was good. But, definitely not great. But, if you can find it for 40 its probably worth a try.

Yes, the first bottle was messed up somehow and this one is great! I think my current one is the norm and similar to rare breed. The first one was just bad and I can't explain why

I love JTS Brown. I used to have a dozen bottles, but the stuff is about as rare as hens teeth anymore. Now I'm nursing my last two bottles wishing I had treated it a little more special.

I appreciate that you revisited your list. Though I did like your first list, I must say that I like this list even more. I agree with another person's comment that WT 101 fits in the mixer category very well too, alongside OF 100, but both are great neat and mixed in my opinion. Keep the great content coming.
